Neil Warnock needs a leader and makes Joey Barton the new QPR captain. Kevin Davies apologises to Tom Cleverley after a wayward tackle at the Reebok sidelined the Man United youngster. Andre Villas-Boas looks to ring the changes in Europe tonight, while an annoyed Rafael Van der Vaart expects to be ready for the weekend game with Liverpool. Here’s a few Scribbles this morning, folks:

QPR’s goalless draw at home to Newcastle last night saw Neil Warnock surprisingly hand the captain’s armband to Joey Barton, with previous skipper Adel Taarabt relinquishing duties. Warnock explained the reasoning behind the move:

“It was just a logical thing really. I had a chat with Adel last week. Adel was straight away right about it. He appreciates how far we have come now and that we need to drive on now. We need somebody as our leader.

Kevin Davies has apologised to Tom Cleverley for the tackle that has sidelined the Man United youngster for the next few weeks. Rumours circulated the internet that Cleverley had criticised the Trotters forward via Facebook after the challenge but Davies clarified the matter, revealing the pair have already spoken:

I didn’t realise after the game, so I put a call in to him and he was fine. I am pleased that there is no serious damage for him. By all accounts he had a fake [profile] saying I didn’t offer an apology. That’s why I got his number and put the call in. I actually texted him and he rang me back and said he had seen the tackle and didn’t think it was that bad.

Andre Villas-Boas admits he will have Sunday’s game at Man United when considering his Chelsea starting XI this evening. The Blues face Bayern Leverkusen and Ramires is suspended and while Didier Drogba continues to recover from concussion, Villas-Boas needs to decide whether to recall Fernando Torres or leave the out-of-sorts Spaniard on the bench:

You’ll see some changes. Then we’ll make wise decisions for Sunday.

Rafael Van der Vaart is not too happy with Harry Redknapp. The Dutchman has been left out of Spurs’ squad for the Europa League group stages and insists Redknapp’s decision came without any sort of warning . In a section under the headline “annoying” on his personal website Van der Vaart wrote:

I still think it’s a peculiar situation. Spurs could at least have consulted me. Anyway it’s up to the point of no return.

Van der Vaart also confirmed he expects to be available for this weekend’s match with Liverpool after intensive treatment on his problem hamstring.

Redknapp was dealt a bitter blow yesterday with the news that Michael Dawson is expected to be sidelined for two months with an Achilles injury picked up in training. Having released Jonathan Woodgate in the summer, the Spurs boss will be more reliant than ever on Ledley King right now; with William Gallas also injured, King and Younes Kaboul struck up a solid partnership in central defence last weekend in the 2-0 win at Wolves.

Liverpool look to be without Glen Johnson for at least another month. The right-back appeared late on in the game at Stoke but suffered a recurrence of the hamstring injury that has already plagued his start to the season. Kenny Dalglish faces a selection dilemma ahead of his side’s trip to Tottenham- Martin Kelly is also injured, leaving John Flanagan or Martin Skrtel as an option.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

I disagree, i think Harry is getting annoyed with his constant injuries, and now with a 4-4-2 looming his best position has gone, unless they drop Defoe?

He remains one of their best players I reckon.. wouldn't be surprised if Defoe was dropped but looks like we might get a glimpse against Liverpool anyway, so we'll have time to look into it. Also got my eye on Adebayor, not sure I'll want both.

all, i've a pretty average start to this season, mainly due to no Rooney.

    I have:

    Given Ruddy
    Baines Simpson Brown Kompany Cole
    Young Silva Arteta DyerN Moses
    Dzeko Suraez AJohnson

Now, AJ and Cole are next in line to be sacked.
I'm thinking Cole out this week and AJ next so looking out for a new defender.

    Any other problems?
    Cheers

It is worth having at least one "kompany". That way you can get two pairs of cheap rotating defenders.

I now have Kompany for spot 1
Hutton and De Laet rotate nicely for spot 2
Taylor and Saylor rotate nicely for spot 3

Differential choice for thoe coming gameweek, Gervinho. Back from suspension, he looked lively in the first game. He's bound to get a ton of assists this season and hopefully he can also get RVP's goal scoring boots working again.

I’m no genius but I’ve just done a bit of lame calculations.

Looked at the top 100 on EA Sports Index and compared the scores to the Newcastle PPI on FPL. It looks to have been updated so that:

    Obertan – 13
    S Taylor – 13
    Simpson – 13

As no QPR is in the top 100 I can’t really predict proper bonus, but looks like the above might get some bonus…

    Krul/Kenny are on 11.

To be honest I’d expect QPR’s PPI to be higher than these…

I hate the way that it only shows the top 100 PPI, and also that it only shows the cumulative score for the season to date, rather than each weekly amount and the overall total.

Doubled up and rotating Stoke/Wolves & one of Newcastle/Swansea although I decided to go against that this week and cocked it up.

I'm not a fan of Vorm/Ruddy I gotta say. I'd be quite surprised if Norwich keep more than 3 clean sheets. And Dyer & Ferguson? Don't be stingy, beef one up! 😀

Yeah, pretty much. As you said, could've been a lot more points had by that team this week. And that Tevez penalty miss was a right kick in the balls.

Defence is set until next WC, so no need to mess about there. I'll give RVP (& Tevez if he look like he'll probably start) another week, then see about changing them if they do nothing again.

Definitely WC'ing this week then, or just toying with the idea?

What was the story with Brunt, how was it he was on everyones radar and only played that many minutes....? I´m struggling here in Mallorca, just moved with my wife and daughter and the Rooney run of form...not to mention betting against him and aguero are killing me. Now this with the marginal players like Brunt have only compounded this I have not been able to watch ONE MATCH in TWO WEEKS, I am trying to sort out this SOP nonsense on my computer so I can p2p/stream it or whatever the kids are calling it these days. And I thought the US was the worst place to watch EPL. Hell the Spaniards suck even at televising their own games. ou had to go to a bar to watch the f$%king 2-2 draw!!

Ive had Rooney since GW1 too, captained twice.

I honestly think if you take away captain points people wouldnt be that far behind. I dont think people have bad teams as such at the moment because really the bulk of points this season have come from Rooney, Aguero & Dzeko and their hat tricks. The guys leading my leagues have captained Rooney through out and one had Aguero this week, the other had Dzeko week before.

I dont think its time to panic and certainly not use a WC. Their still arent many players consitantly proucing the points so as long as you have them, which i think most of us do then you have to keep the faith. People WCing to get rid of people like Sinclair & Taarabt for players like Jarvis i think might get burned, i dont think Jarvis will carry on his form and i still think people like Sinclair & Taarabt will start to get points soon. I honestly think people WCing now will again in a few weeks be wanting to do it again as other players hit form. I personally still their is a lot uncertainty and us patient players will be rewarded.

Exactly, and if Rooney's points start drying up, then people at the top of mini-leagues will realise how bad their squads really are when they don't have 34 or 44 points from Rooney (C) each week to support their team's score.

I keep telling myself that anyway 😉

Im looking forward to gambling on some differentials anyway if i continue to labour behind. Ive normally been in front and just picked the obvious players. Saying that Cahill & Walcott are pretty big (and probably stupid) differentials for me already.

seems crazy in a game where Newcastle did almost nothing offensively that Obertan could get awarded BPs. Surely Faurlin or SWP (despite his waywardness he was effecttive at times) are more deserving. Cant argue with Simpson as he was solid, but i saw Taylor make mistakes esp in the first half.

I watched Taarabt closely in the game last night and while he obviously has a lot of skill, he doesnt look fit enough for the premier league and he is quite content to set up a move and then leave the other players to it, whereas he would be far more dangerous if he continued forward into the box.

Yeah, he seems to hang back a bit rather than busting a gut to get in the box to finish the move. Also, his attempts at skill are often misplaced and he is using them in silly areas of the pitch some of the time and just loses possession doing them.

How does this sound for an attacking WC line up?

    Moses/Watson, Obertan, Silva, Arteta, Anderson
    Adebayor, Rooney, Aguero

This way I see myself as having a decent number of captaincy options as well as plenty of big two (city/united) coverage. Plus, with cleverley out Anderson will be pretty much nailed on and possibly in line for a more advanced role.

There's absolutely no way Arsenal offered €40m for him. Not buying that. I watched about 8 dortmund games last season though and Gotze was the stand out player in most of them. Jones-esq talent for his age 😉

Prediction: Barkley or Gotze will be signed by United next summer. Arsenal will sign some frenchie for about £15-20m.

Hazards price depends on how well Lille do this season. If they don't qualify for the CL, he'll want to leave and i reckon he'd go on the cheap. Sadly, we've probably missed our chance to sign him, bigger clubs will want him. Hopefully his big cousin Thomas V can persuade him to join us!

      Fucile Maicon Otamendi Pereira

Fernando/Souza (One of these two for the DM role)
      Belluschi - Moutinho

      Hulk - Kleber - James

Possibly this. A Porto fan said James Rodriguez should start over Varela as Varela has been quite poor & James has had a great start, but with it being the CL he may go for someone with more experience.

Attacking players i'm looking at are James who's OOP and Moutinho.
