Neil Warnock needs a leader and makes Joey Barton the new QPR captain. Kevin Davies apologises to Tom Cleverley after a wayward tackle at the Reebok sidelined the Man United youngster. Andre Villas-Boas looks to ring the changes in Europe tonight, while an annoyed Rafael Van der Vaart expects to be ready for the weekend game with Liverpool. Here’s a few Scribbles this morning, folks:

QPR’s goalless draw at home to Newcastle last night saw Neil Warnock surprisingly hand the captain’s armband to Joey Barton, with previous skipper Adel Taarabt relinquishing duties. Warnock explained the reasoning behind the move:

“It was just a logical thing really. I had a chat with Adel last week. Adel was straight away right about it. He appreciates how far we have come now and that we need to drive on now. We need somebody as our leader.

Kevin Davies has apologised to Tom Cleverley for the tackle that has sidelined the Man United youngster for the next few weeks. Rumours circulated the internet that Cleverley had criticised the Trotters forward via Facebook after the challenge but Davies clarified the matter, revealing the pair have already spoken:

I didn’t realise after the game, so I put a call in to him and he was fine. I am pleased that there is no serious damage for him. By all accounts he had a fake [profile] saying I didn’t offer an apology. That’s why I got his number and put the call in. I actually texted him and he rang me back and said he had seen the tackle and didn’t think it was that bad.

Andre Villas-Boas admits he will have Sunday’s game at Man United when considering his Chelsea starting XI this evening. The Blues face Bayern Leverkusen and Ramires is suspended and while Didier Drogba continues to recover from concussion, Villas-Boas needs to decide whether to recall Fernando Torres or leave the out-of-sorts Spaniard on the bench:

You’ll see some changes. Then we’ll make wise decisions for Sunday.

Rafael Van der Vaart is not too happy with Harry Redknapp. The Dutchman has been left out of Spurs’ squad for the Europa League group stages and insists Redknapp’s decision came without any sort of warning . In a section under the headline “annoying” on his personal website Van der Vaart wrote:

I still think it’s a peculiar situation. Spurs could at least have consulted me. Anyway it’s up to the point of no return.

Van der Vaart also confirmed he expects to be available for this weekend’s match with Liverpool after intensive treatment on his problem hamstring.

Redknapp was dealt a bitter blow yesterday with the news that Michael Dawson is expected to be sidelined for two months with an Achilles injury picked up in training. Having released Jonathan Woodgate in the summer, the Spurs boss will be more reliant than ever on Ledley King right now; with William Gallas also injured, King and Younes Kaboul struck up a solid partnership in central defence last weekend in the 2-0 win at Wolves.

Liverpool look to be without Glen Johnson for at least another month. The right-back appeared late on in the game at Stoke but suffered a recurrence of the hamstring injury that has already plagued his start to the season. Kenny Dalglish faces a selection dilemma ahead of his side’s trip to Tottenham- Martin Kelly is also injured, leaving John Flanagan or Martin Skrtel as an option.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Brown, Delaet, Simpson, Kompany, Enrique

Alot of complaints for allocation of bps, but hey, at least its a system that can be used to our advantage surely. I'm sure the scouts will have something soon enough that shows who & why certain folk are getting the points, and have said already who stands to benefit in terms of position etc. Certainly shows that Taarabt will do well against average opposition, fullbacks are profiting, and any player who gets a goal is a shoe in. % of shots on target could be worth looking at given the punishment for wayward efforts. Just a few thoughts. Must be nearly lunchtime, where's Soop?

If there is a tie for first place, Players 1 & 2 will receive 3 points each and Player 3 will receive 1 point.

If there is a tie for second place, Player 1 will receive 3 points and Players 2 and 3 will receive 2 points each.

If there is a tie for third place, Player 1 will receive 3 points, Player 2 will receive 2 points and Players 3 & 4 will receive 1 point each.

Says nothing about awarding 5 players 2 Bp's. They made up a new rule!!

Left themselves with no option if lots of players get tied on same points. In essence, if eg. every player got 5 ppi points in a game, then wouldn't they all get 3 bps each? All players tie for 1st place?

Genuinely amused that people are looking back with nostalgia to 'when the bonus points went to the best player'. This time last year everyone was moaning how ridiculous the bonus points were and completely misallocated. Obviously it was subjective, so not everyone would be happy - but people cried for objectivity, now they have a completely fair, non-biased (albeit flawed, but how could it not be?) system - but people are still moaning.

There's a difference between a people moaning because "their player didn't get a bonus" and people moaning because there man of the match player gets less points than the worst player on the pitch.

        Of course there is.

The point is last year people couldn;t see that in a system how it was that every now and then they would be let down by the bonus - people cried out for change, and they got it. Good or bad, the system IS fair, unbiased, objective - all the things people wanted.

I always thought it was ridiculous tbh - of course there were the bonus darlings last year, instead of moaning about them I was too busy fitting them in my team, gave the game an added element imo.

Anyway, the point is they can't win, people will always moan, it was better last year and has only changed through people moaning.

        People will always keep moaning.

That's fair enough. But at least last year there was a somewhat feasible reason as to why someone got a bonus. You wouldn't have a goalkeeper playing utter crap (De Gea vs West Brom) getting bonus points and then have Foster who made like 12 saves or whatever it was getting eff all. However unpredictable last years system was, it offered a degree of accuracy. We can all agree last seasons was better but the point is that this one is dire whichever way you look at it.

Well I never had a problem with the bonus points last year - if you came on here when they were dished out it was a different story.

I was genuinely concerned at how upset some people got, denouncing fpl, writing angry upset emails in to complain - some people sounded like they were about to break down.

The point is, any system which only rewards 3 (or a few more) players will be moaned about, because some people will lose out. So the fact that loads of people are moaning about the new bonus system doesn't really mean anything - because they were last year, the year before, and they will be next year too - they can't win.

I think what people wanted was a mix between qualitative judgement backed with quantative stats. For instance if last night it had been
SWP - 3 - x number of key passes y number of shots
Taarabt - 2- x number of key passes
      S Taylor - 1 - x goal line clearances

Then I think people may have been happier. But it's just two different systems, not worth crying over just get used to it.

I think it's one or the other tbh. If subjective opinion comes into it at any point then essentially it's the same as last year.

Generally the players with goals/assists etc always got the bonus.

I think any system that works on cold hard stats will get it wrong eventually because they never tell the whole story, especially in a nil nil draw where there aren;t things like goals/assists to pick out.

"Generally the players with goals/assists etc always got the bonus."

Not true IMO - yes it contributed towards it, as it should, but other factors such as "playing well" came into it, .g. this year players like Moses, Sessegnon and Suarez (SWP last night) would have gotbonuses at various time because they were the best players on the pitch and anyone could see it. In the new system they have got none because of things like "shots of target" - surely if a player is getting into positions where he can get shots on goal he is playing well

On the other hand - surely if a player is getting his shots on target, not putting them into row z, he is playing well. 'playing well' is such subjective thing that it will obviously be problematic to quantify, and so it has proved.

Last year loads of players frequently got bonus even when they (unanimously) didn't deserve it. I don't know why people are looking back so fondly when last year so many people moaned ALL THE TIME.

Damned if they do, damned if they don't. It is what it is. More clichés of this sort.

tbh it never makes much difference to me anyway, the bulk of the points come elsewhere - the bonuses are exactly that, a bonus.

Id be very surprised if arsenal score more than a goal this weekend and for 12.0M RVP is too expensive in a team that cant score goals.

I have found that captaining someone in an early game doesn't work

usually they fail and the rest of your weekend is ruined

so captaining someone playing on a sunday or monday is better, even if your whole team fails you still have your captain to play and more than likely he will come up trumps

This season is worrying me...folks I know who have had really bad records in FPL over the years are prevailing..they'll rarely check team news and don't even take rotation into account but Aguero captain every week is working splendidly for them..I can't get him in, I'm such a wuss when it comes to possible rotation..I prefer seasons where there are less goals and not two ridiculously superior teams ruling...
When Danny Simpsons getting two baps is your highlight of the season, you know it's not your year...
I'm 590k and have been generally delighted with my team going into each gw.

Im alot further away than you mate, and I read papers, tinternet, SSN, and pick my teams based on that (and a little bit of 'hunch' work!). Stick with the team you feel will work, over the season the knowledge and skill of the few will overcome the luck of the many.

12 points from Krul and Taarabt saved it a little bit. Before that only Rooney (who I didn't captain) and Baines had scored over 2 points!

Yeah, still would have picked virtually the same team, although I knew that Jarvis (with the injury) and Hoolahan (with Lambert being a mug) were risks, and neither paid off, at least not this week.

Sitting pretty on 201 points. 😳

Ouch, not many points indeed. It is just so frustrating – I think it’ll be even harder to play catch up this season. I wanted a reall good start after the disappointment of last year ruining the season average and it is already looking like a mere dot on the horizon!

We best keep the faith though eh 🙂

Lambert is a mug – Hoolahan showed when he came on that he was the spark, the only bit of life Norwich had in them.

Thing is, an average of 50 points a week wouldn't be disastrous at all in a normal season, it's just the likes of Rooney, Young, Dzeko, Silva and Aguero have started the season insanely well, and a lot of people have them!

Even though I'm doing shockingly, i'm enjoying it.

City's wealth of attacking options is quite fresh and a bit interesting. Compared to last year when everyone just had Drogba/Malouda for example - now you have options to pick between. Rotation has kept things interesting despite not working out for me.

I haven’t the chance to sort my Champs League fantasy teams as yet and will not get a chance until later. For the two games – the Metro one and the one linked on The Scout – when are the deadlines? Are they both 7.30? I see there are no early starts in Russia so presuming this is the case. I’d struggle to make a 5.30 deadline thats all.

I hate that i'm probably going to captain Rooney because even though i think he'll do eff all against Chelsea, i fear that if he does i'll fall further behind my rivals because everyone will have him. Last season i came top 5k and more often than not i'd have captain differentials. It's too risky this year though.

At least just for this weekend. Dzeko should play and hence score against fulham. Suarez is playing tottenham away. No need to have simpson and taylor. The wolves defence is strong and ward maybe playing oop this weekend.

while swp was making runs on the line to end up in a cross that needed less than an inch to connect, or shots off target or saved on the goal-line, obertan was making "walks" on the line and making a 5 yards back pass which on the stats is more profitable.

Very well. Chipped the keeper only for it to be cleared off the line, and if Bothroyd had his shooting boots SWP could've had a few assits. Unlucky not to get anything denct points-wise. He was very lively, especially in the first half.

looks like everyone is wondering how long rooney will last.... I put RVP as my captain last week, I thought he would back lash against swansea, especially because he scored 4 in Euro qualifiers

I would try RVP, if he looks tired in the champs league this week go with Silva

And in answer to your question, no.

      Ward (QPR)
      Brown (STK)
      Baines (WIG)

Planning ftw. Although the way this season has gone, I'll probably get zero clean sheets and a couple of bookings, and you'll get six clean sheets.

There is ONE good thing about the new site however!

I like that you can change your defenders, midfielders and forwards positioning around in your team, so that they are in the 'correct' place, so for instance you can put RVP in the centre of your front three, if you have a left-back and a right-back, then you can put them either side of Kompany in the back three, ditto with your wingers etc! 😀

With the old site, the players were locked in place in the same order that they appeared on your transfers page, so if Lampard was greedily transferred in first for GW1 out of all your midfielders, then he would stupidly appear on the right wing for the whole duration that you kept him for.

I think this is a nice new touch.

    Thanks FPL! 😀
