Our Watchlist rankings, offering a view on mid-term Fantasy picks, have been updated for the forthcoming run of fixtures. You can now view these by each position using the tabbed tables in the sidebar on your homepage.

Read on for our summary of the significant moves in our rankings – complete with discussion on the some of the major prospects on offer.

Ben Foster’s clean sheet at Norwich, coupled with a run of fixtures that sets him up nicely for further returns in the coming weeks, has him climb to the top of our goalkeeper rankings. In truth, there’s little between the top keeper choices available right now, with Joe Hart and Wojech Szczesny available as strong options with those with cash to invest, while Asmir Bergovic, Tim Krul and Shay Given all offer low-to-mid price bracket.

Vincent Kompany’s imperious form and City’s forthcoming home matches has him at the top of our defender rankings, ousting Chelsea’s Jose Boswinga. Kompany looks to offer the greater security within Roberto Mancini’s back line and continues to attract Fantasy Premier League bonus to supplement his returns.

Stoke’s resolute defensive performances have brought three clean sheets in four and, with strong fixtures to come, Robert Huth enjoys a big climb in our rankings. There are cheaper options in the Potters’ back four – notably Ryan Shawcross, although there’s uncertainty surrounding Matt Upson and Jonathan Woodgate who could be set to rotate in the coming weeks. Huth looks a more certain starter and, as last season demonstrated, he brings a significant goal threat which, to this point, has yet to materialise but will surely return as a factor soon.

Everton’s Leighton Baines has a strong fixture in the forthcoming Gameweek but will be stretched in fixtures to follow – his Fantasy owners will likely need to rely on attacking returns to justify his weighty price tag. It’s a drop for Baines, then, with mid-price offerings Steve Taylor, Roger Johnson (with Stephen Ward a strong alternative) nipping above the Everton man with decent fixtures to come. West Brom’s Jonas Olsson and Villa’s Alan Hutton offer value further down our rankings.

David Silva’s sparkling form at the point of City’s midfield keeps him out in front in our midfield rankings. Arseanal’s Theo Walcott is some way behind in second, boosted by strong fixtures which really should bring returns in the coming weeks. Chelsea’s Juan Mata is hovering with intent, however – a trip to Old Trafford this weekend reduces his short-term potential but, following this, we’d expect to see the Spaniard threaten his compatriot at the top of our Watchlist.

The Nani vs Ashley Young debate continues – Young took the early rounds but Nani’s consistency has been strong and, despite not yet offering an explosive return, we’re still backing him to deliver despite impending competition from a fit again Antonio Valencia. This remains an interesting scenario and one that needs monitoring.

Rafael Van der Vaart represents another poser – he’s declared himself fit for the visit of Liverpool to the Lane this weekend but, having seen his side dispose of Wolves at Molineux, Harry Redknnapp may not find room for the Dutchman and break up the Emmanuel Adebayor/Jermain Defoe partnership. Fantasy managers are forced to “wait and see” when it comes to Van der Vaart’s fitness and role – his ability to deliver Fantasy returns is undoubted though, keeping him in our thoughts over the coming weeks.

There is perhaps greater security on offer elsewhere. Everton’s Tim Cahill looks set for another stint in the striker role for Everton – awful fixtures limit his appeal however. QPR’s Adel Taarabt saw his first significant FPL returns in Monday’s 0-0 with Newcastle and we expect the Moroccan to come to the fore over QPR’s next set of games.

Many Fantasy managers have given up on the potential of Swansea’s Scott Sinclair and Sunderland’s Stephane Sessegnon – we’re being less hasty, however. Both have very decent home matches to come and could yet deliver on their strong attacking threat.

Wayne Rooney continues to dominate our forward rankings with City’s Sergio Aguero now installed as his nearest competitor following his hat-trick against Wigan. The uncertainty in the City forward line is a concern, however; with Edin Dzeko suffering last weekend, the Bosnian slips down our rankings. Tonight’s Champions League lineup from Roberto Mancini will tell us more.

Javier Hernandez presents another conundrum. The Mexican announced his return to the starting lineup with a brace in the 5-0 win at the Reebok and has to come into our thinking over United’s tough run of opponents. Danny Welbeck’s return to fitness could threaten his starts and pitch-time, though – much depends on whether Alex Ferguson sees fit to hand Welbeck further opportunities following his encouraging start to the season prior to his hamstring setback.

West Brom’s Peter Odemwingie appears to offer more security at a cheaper price. The Nigerian came back with a bang at Carrow Road on Sunday, putting in an impressive shift and netting the winner for Roy Hodgson’s outfit. A strong run of opponents offer Odemwingie the platform to impress and his partnership with Shane Long could well be in for strong profits in the month ahead.

Chelsea’s Daniel Sturridge presents himself as an even cheaper alternative. Like Hernandez and Dzeko, however, rotation is a risk while Sturridge is also tasked with returning Fantasy points from a role on the right of Chelsea’s attacking front three. He had little trouble at Sunderland on Saturday but, with an Old Trafford trip up next, short-term investment is perhaps being stifled. That could change as Andre Villas-Boas’ teamsheet begins to firm up.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Nasri wasn't impressive tonight. Looks impossible to choose him over Silva now if it's a straight choice for anyone imo.

At 6.5m and part of the full back rotation, only the most foolhardy fan would be tempted in FPL. However UCL, yeah why not, it'll be like that honeymoon you never had.

Even I'm not considering Kolarov for FPL, I'm just talking about his football in general. Dzeko looked so sluggish, in the same way that Kolarov does, in his first six months here, but he now looks much leaner and moves across the ground quite quickly. Just wonder if Kolarov can make the same progression....

Yeah Dzeko looks a totally different player this season.
Mancini might just play Kolorov in CL, maybe he's more suited to it.

On BBC sport; Sir Alex Ferguson is not happy when asked if Anders Lindegaard has put himself in the frame to start against Chelsea: "David de Gea will play on Sunday. That was the understanding we had before the game. I don't know why you ask these questions. You are just looking for stupid, little things."

Does no one understand protecting a player's psyche? *Especially a 'keeper - and a young one, in a new country, playing for a big/the biggest team?

De Gea will have enough growing pains without additional stress. Now, I understand that he and SAF *will* get the guff, no way around that.

But Ferg will do what he can to protect against that.

That said, he was baited and rather than answering as coolly and calmly as I would have liked - he bit.

I obviously care. I want to know whether we'll be playing against 11 or 12 people. Fortunately it sounds as though it may be 11, although that undoubtedly won't actually be the case, it never is.

I still can't believe people still don't think that was a penalty. It was about as obvious as a brick wall. Vidic should have been sent earlier as well and when he was it was a correct decision. The Terry 'handball' was never ever a pen either. The only thing that was wrong was not sending Luiz off but as he didn't send Vidic off earlier it evens out.

I guess it was a MUTV commentator, surely they don't let a muppet like that on a proper TV channel.

this nonsense will just prompt man utd fans to retort with examples of theirs and it will escalate into madness again. sometimes decisions go your way, sometimes they don't. and even then it's just one view v another. the ref has one look and makes a call

btw STB i agree 100% with that analysis of those decisions. the slow mo replay of terry's is a false replay as the reason it wasn't given was it was smashed against him. slow mo doesn't show that

          Its all about selling products.

How do you keep people watching to ensure they will remain to see the ad breaks even when the game is over - you tell them to stay tuned for mindless interviews and opinions on the very thing you have just seen yourself.

Oh lets try to get a reaction from X so the viewer will think its controversial and remain interested watching for reaction into the second ad break.

Rotation is the name of the game in non-PL games, especially days before a massive match, or even one against Chelsea.

To ask if De Gea was being benched, essentially, was an obvious fishing expedition. With SAF's history, professionally, and with his history with the BBC - he feels no need to be charitable or benevolent. His concern is protecting the mindset of his player.

        Good on him.

Why didn't she ask if Park was replacing Young this week?

3/4 of the team hasn't touched the field thus far this season. She identified *only* De Gea because he's come in for some criticism previously.

Again, I think he might have handled it better - but seeing it, it seems everyone's getting their blouses in a ruffle over nothing. It's a pathetically minor response/comment on SAF's part.

Vidic a clown, 15+ goals for Torres on current form? Being a Chelsea supporter doesn't mean you have to be dumb and blind.

I'm all for the whole bleeding for your club thing but your comments lately are bordering on stupidity. Torres'form is beyond bad atm. Deal with it.

Okay, Vidic isn't a clown, obviously - although Torres has definitely got the better of him on multiple occasions.

Genuinely think that Torres can score 15+ league goals this season, if not more.

Got Brown but Sunderland poor and fixtures not good.

Stoke best for cheaper defenders they rotate perfectly with AVL but also good with Wolves. As I've got Woodgate at 6.5 I'm thinking of Ward. However if Stoke keep it up I might not rotate Woodgate.

How are people finding the Fifa demo (just logged on, so apologies if this has already been discussed)? Extremely difficult but addictive all the same.

I feel it's a bit like a new Pro Evo 1-6 PS2. When you first played, it felt impossible (even for veterans who played year after year). Even short passes etc. are really difficult. But before you know it, you get into a gradual routine and find yourself ready to take on Master League (the one thing in the Universe more addictive than FPL).

I hope it is the same with Fifa (though obviously there is no Master League). Defending is brutally demanding too.

Pro Evo has been terrible since 6 on PS2. Seabass, the creator, has done a Wenger.

Fifa, in contrast, was awful until Fifa 09. Since that game, they've been sublime.

I agree with Sigga and PFOR. It's going to reward those who really practise at it.

I did think about holding back on the Wenger bit!

Actually, I think it's an ok analogy. Seabass and Wenger are very similar in there is a love for pure football (think the opposite of Pulis), plus a scientific and precise attention to detail year after year. Pass-move-pass-move. Pro Evos 3,4,5 + 6 compares with Arsenal 04 if you get my drift.

They're still great at what they do, but it's just not been quite coming together for either of them for a while despite much promise. One of this years, though, Arsenal will be resurrected and Pro Evo will produce the greatest football game ever.

            Just when you least expect.

      not too bad...
defending is going to brodden the gap between alright players and good players,
      the passing is pretty good,
the tackling is amazing, a little more difficult but it'll mean idioits who bring the extra man or just hold down, will struggle to disposes people,
also good dribblers will be highly valued now as the game is more about intercepting passes than stopping the ball carrier using skilled dribbling is very effective

De Gea is the future, he needs the experience and De Gea hasn't been bad, just because Anders did great tonight won't change that overnight.
Anders will play in Carling, FA cup and a few other Champ league matches whilst De Gea focuses on PL. That's my thinking, anyway.

It's a decent thought, but way too exp. 2 from Krul, Vorm, Given, Begovic, Schwarz are the way to go (don't think I've missed anyone).

Chesney is a consideration, but with Arsenal not particularly convincing, I would avoid with his price tag.

Very important to get the GK and defence right this year, but obviously difficult. Very few exciting options in MF still. If your strikers all fail one week, it could well come down to your defence to keep your points topped up.

There seem to be 2 theories about gcs. Get one from Hart, Czec, and Reina + a benchwarmer. Or two cheapies who rotate.

With the benefit of hindsight Begovic at 5m and a cheapie has been the way to go. Despite Stoke having some difficult fixtures they have been outstanding.

I've got Begovic and Given who rotate perfectly but would have done better ignoring Given. For the moment I am going to favour Begovic

From gw 9 Newcastle and Stoke rotate very well so in the unlikely event that things are still the same Krul will come into my reckoning.

I was this close to dropping baines for him today, then I thought to myself, hell why not captain him, or Cahill for Bolton this weekend, it can´t be any worse than my last three captin choices (strikers...).

Who's still with me on the Sess Caravan (being towed by the Bendy Bus)? Could well be on pens with Gyan gone.

I am afraid I don't have the energy to muster a Delia Smith war-cry nor a high-five for any fellow Sess owners out there.

We'll soon become extinct, but I have a hunch there's some points to be had.

In fact I fear a very low scoring week. I have Moses V Baines, Brunt V Vorm, Walters V Sess. No Arsenal coverage (tough this has been fine, so far and B'burn could be a tough nut to crack). However, apart from Ewood Park, it's very difficult to see if there are any obvious sources of points. I have already braced myself for a damage limitation week and studied my rivals' teams. As long as the likes of Jarvis doesn't rip it up against QPR, I think I can come through unharmed...

Terribly sorry but I sold him a few days ago and it was great. That's a bandwagon I will remember with no joy whatsoever. Moses was at least a Wigan player, and Sinclair has been unlucky.

Happy enough with my team except for the travesty that is DJ Campbell.
The alternatives are not great but was thinking either Long(decent run of fixtures) or Sturridge(high potential and possible benchwarmer) Would welcome some input. Campbells value is now 5.3 and I have 1.5 bank.

Sturridge all day, why do people like DJ...never understood that? Shane will soon be a victim of scouting reports...rough him up before he gets on the ball...light in the ass...not discounting him though, the kid does have a knack of getting shots off and probably would kill in Spain or Italy.

Odemwingie would definitely be my forward of choice on that team but I cant make that transfer. Wont even begin to justify my choice of Campbell as a cheapie third. Do you think Sturridge will get a run of games?

DJ been ill for last 3 weeks.

Going to get service from Taarabt, Barton and SWP and still good fixtures for a while so I wouldn't bail out on him yet.

Who will score more goals this season

    Klasnic or Torres (prem only).

Its currently 3-0 to Klasnic. Even if Klasnic doesnt play again this season I fancy his chances.

Torres, Klasnic will strain something on a technic-less shot fading away from 30 yards. And like I said earlier Torres will cut that lead to 1 this weekend, with the help of Juan of course.

Can anyone explain, even with all the technical issues, Bappage and Assist-gate, why on earth is FPL the most addictive thing ever created and yet all the other Fantasy games are just bore-fests?

Possibly a bit harsh, but I couldn't be bothered to create a CL team and all the Fantasy games I joined while waiting for FPL have barely been checked by myself. I have a few theories/factors, but I'd be interested to hear other people's thoughts.

The rules seem the easiest to understand, the deadlines are clear and because of the league and H2H system. I don't have to keep looking back at the rules compared to other FF games I've tried as they are all clear and you can see how all of your players have done.

Try playing the Daily Mail game for instance and you'll see how similar yet how different and IMO less enjoyable it is compared to the FPL game - the Metro game isn't bad however.

What's actually happened to Jussi? He's been dreadful ever since the beginning of last season (perhaps even longer before that). I had him for half of last season so I'd always notice his cock-ups and there was genuinely virtually one every game.
