This week’s Captain Poll is in full swing, collecting your votes in the middle column of the homepage now.

With over 900 votes already cast, the results are interesting once again. Wayne Rooney’s back-to-back hat-tricks are playing their part, keeping him right up there with Arsenal’s Robin Van Persie, despite the United man facing the Chelsea defence at Old Trafford. Clearly few are backing Andre Villas-Boas’ side to keep the relentless Rooney machine at bay.

Van Persie’s potential is undoubted – a trip to Ewood Park looks promising, even for an Arsenal side struggling to find fluidity and goals this season. The Dutchman does have form however, the midweek strike in Germany another reminder of his quality and with so much faith placed on Rooney and the Man City strikers, Van Persie currently looks an unlikely differential for those willing to take the punt.

City’s attacking assets are hard to ignore of course and, right now, the consistent brilliance of David Silva has carried him to third place in the poll. A trip to Craven Cottage to face a Fulham side that has stuttered out of the blocks and who face Europa League opponents tonight, looks a profitable one for Roberto Mancini’s side. Below Silva, it’s interesting that Edin Dzeko is currently edging team-mate Sergio Aguero in the poll. Both started against Napoli last night and it’s a tough call as to who will drop out to allow a likely recall for Carlos Tevez in Sunday’s game. Those burned by Dzeko in Gameweek four will be praying for the Italian’s teamsheet to fall their way.

Leighton Baines makes a welcome surge in our Fantasy thinking – his fixture against former club Wigan looks attractive and makes him nailed-on for Scout Pick selection. Fourth place in our poll is surprising for a defender but Baines proved last weekend against Villa that he can offer the kind of creative influence that many midfielders fail to produce. No player created more goalscoring opportunities than Baines in Gameweek four and the Latics defence looks to be there for the taking if, and it’s a big if, Baines’ team-mates can rise to the occasion and match the performance of the raiding left-back.

West Brom’s Peter Odemwingie and Liverpool’s Luis Suarez stand out as leftfield captain choices – both have undoubted quality but will need to produce on their travels to repay the faith. Odemwingie returned to the Baggies starting lineup in form at Carrow Road but the trip to Swansea will be testing – particularly if Brendan Rodgers’ side continue to retain possession as they have in their previous games. Suarez is a player who can produce against any opposition, but two consecutive blanks against Bolton and Stoke have dented the confidence and seen Fantasy sales of the Uruguayan. The next two Gameweeks could be crucial to his future in our Fantasy sqauds – fail to notch at Spurs or at home to Wolves in Gameweek six and we’re likely to see the transfers out increase markedly.

Bolton’s Martin Petrov is there as your real risk and reward option. The Bulgarian has been outstanding for Owen Coyle’s side this term and, despite talk of tweaks to the Trotters starting lineup, Petrov looks nailed on for a start. Norwich are at the Reebok and should afford Petrov opportunities to add to his blossoming Fantasy reputation this term.

Plenty of options – could this be the Gameweek that Rooney fails to return and creates a differential for those without the United striker? It will be interesting to see how confidence in Rooney develops as more votes roll in. Don’t forget to cast yours via the homepage before Saturday’s deadline.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

To the great informed people - help pleeease with this one. Got one transfer to do this week and need a decision on who to sell and best option to buy:
Senderos (4.5) - probably will get over his 'illness' (75%) and Hughes is out injured so should play v (MCI)
    or
Andy Johnson (5.3) v (MCI) - benched last week played 11 mins, Zamora started.

tonights meal down the restuarant ...

    breaded mushrooms

12oz steak and a 1/2 rack of spare ribs + fries (no salad)

    spotted dick + custard

    5 pints of fosters

fantasy football chat with 3 opponents shud be a gd night .

i`m revealing my weekend moves and will be arguing loudly against having dzeko or aguero or tevez in ,mancini is going to cause a lot of gnashing of teeth this season and whilst anyone of the three would be a great selection in any other side the risk of 15 mins is too great ....

    4 point hit

    barton to silva
    tevez to adebayor

Was sounding good until the fosters part. Bleurgh. 😉

Like the transfers, although don't entirely agree that it's not worth having City forwards. Yes there will be rotation, but when they play, they'll have a very good chance of scoring highly. Like Berbatov last year, having Dzeko may be worthwhile because even if he only plays 3/4 games, he'll score well enough in the 3 to make him excellent value at 8.9.

    Vorm (Krul)

Baines - Boyata - N. Taylor (Simpson, Lopez)

If I was him, I'd get rid of Yaya (downgrading to someone like Jarvis) and then would upgrade the bench fodder.

Does he use this site? It's a pretty standard FFS team, especially the defence.

I have RVP and Silva but I'm captaining Hernandez. If I'd kept Rooney I'd be captaining him. Not putting it anywhere near RVP until he shows some form and there's no guarantee Silva will start.

I had Kompany Baines and A.Cole for first 2-3 weeks. one week i got 5 pts between them! You only need one of your 3 big hitters in defense and spend the money on midfield then - mata, nasri, young, brunt, miereles options

Reasons to capt Ward over Rooney

    1) He might play as striker this week so in for clean sheets plus goals

    2) At home with easier opponents

    3) Hasnt had a gruelling trip to pertugal midweek

There's not much available at that price unless you wanted to take a punt on Leon Best. My advice would be to wait until next week and make two tranfers, one downgrading a defender or midfielder and the other upgrading Johnson, perhaps to Odemwingie who has a few sweet fixtures. Ultimately it's up to yourself man...

Any suggestions on who to captain out of Nasri, Dzeko, Suarez, Cahill and Sinclair?

I've got Rooney too but don't want to captain him due to his fixture....

Cheeky, I picked Rooney this week!

I think I captained Cahill v Wigan last year, and thats put me off.

I'm very tempted by Nasri to be honest...

    Team for this week:

    Vorm, (Rudd)
Bosingwa, Enrique, Kompany, (De Laet), (Simpson)
    Mata, Young, Silva, Petrov, Dyer
    Rooney, Suarez, (Ruiz)

Thinking of subbing Bos and playing Simpson. Good idea?

Also may save 1 free transfer to next week and do Rudd -> Ruddy & Ruiz -> Sturridge

    Any other pressing concerns?

It's a classic dilemma. The poll asks who you think is the best player to captain so that's how I think. I reckon most vote for the one they WILL captain though.

Why are people saying QPR re looking good attacking wise?

They couldnt even score a single goal at home to newcastle.

And as for newcastle its laughable how all their defensve players are being snapped up , their defence looks woeful, dont be fooled by a few lucky lean sheets
