Stoke try a back-five in Europe, while Harry’s Redknapp’s inexperienced Spurs side snatch a draw in Greece. Fulham dominate in their home match with FC Twente but are left frustrated with yet another draw. Connor Wickham may start for Sunderland on Sunday, while Davide Santon looks set for a spell on the sidelines at Newcastle. Neil Warnock warns Adel Taarabt it’s time to produce the goods and a now-recovered Darren Fletcher admits his mystery virus remains unsolved. Here’s some Scribbles ahead of a busy Friday, folks:

Fulham remain unbeaten in Europe but were left frustrated after a home draw with FC Twente. With Bryan Ruiz cup-tied and unable to face his former side, Martin Jol went with a front two of Andrew Johnson and Moussa Dembele and the former fired the Cottagers ahead on nineteen minutes. Chris Baird partnered Brede Hangeland at centre half while Zdenek Grygera started at right-back on his debut.

Harry Redknapp rang the changes for Spurs trip to Greece as they faced PAOK. Only Kyle Walker survived from the starting XI that faced Wolves last weekend, with Vedran Corluka returning from injury to take his place in the starting lineup. Seb Bassong and Roman Pavlyuchenko also featured, though it was the heroics of Carlo Cudicini –given a very rare start by Redknapp- that ensured the visitors left with a point after a goalless stalemate.

Stoke’s trip to Dynamo Kiev also saw the Potters pick up a point, as Cameron Jerome grabbed his first goal since moving from Birmingham. In a game their hosts dominated, Tony Pulis’ tactics were the most noteworthy of talking points, as he rolled out a back-five for the tricky away tie.

Reports today suggest Steve Bruce is considering giving Connor Wickham his first start for Sunderland at home to Stoke City this weekend. The Black Cats boss is desperate to freshen things up after losing both games at the Stadium of Light so far this season and the youngster may provide the necessary spark.

The arrival of the likes of Joey Barton and Shaun Wright-Phillips seems to have upset Adel Taarabt, purely from a financial perspective. The Moroccan is on a far inferior pay packet compared to the new boys but Neil Warnock showed little sign of pandering to Taarabt’s needs:

The only way to answer things is to play on the field of play. That’s what I told him to do. He’s got no excuse now. He’s got a team that are capable of giving him the ball in dangerous areas and he’s got to perform.

Roy Hodgson has confirmed Graham Dorrans and Chris Brunt are West Brom’s first and second choice penalty takers. The Baggies were awarded a spot kick at Norwich last weekend and with both off the pitch, it was left to Peter Odemwingie to step up- the Nigerian’s miss only confirmed why he’s not the number-one. Hodgson explained:

Dorrans is the one we assigned the penalty-taking to. But Dorrans wasn’t on, Brunt was on the bench, and that’s how we got down to Peter.

Darren Fletcher looks like being back to full fitness after being sidelined for almost six months with a mystery virus. Despite his recovery, the mystery remains and the player admitted he is still perplexed as to what kept him out of first-team action for so long a period:

It has all been resolved now but I never got to the bottom of it. I felt drained and weak and was bed-bound for a bit. But the biggest thing was losing the weight. The virus was bad but for someone like me to lose the weight I did, it was really difficult to put back on.

Newcastle new boy Davide Santon is set to be sidelined for at least a month. The full-back injured a knee in training and is set to have his third operation in just two years on the problem. Alan Pardew admitted:

It’s a worry. It looks like it could be a cartilage and it’s not something you want when he’s just come into the building.
Maybe we’re looking at a month out. He’s going to have to get it cleaned out, it’s keyhole surgery nowadays which is a quicker operation but it will certainly mean at least four weeks out.

    Lads,

I know its been spoken about to a degree but does anyone have any solid reasons why I shouldn't captain Baines?

For me its between Silva and Baines but other than 'a hunch' theres no real reason for it currently being on Baines.

Someone wanna talk me out of it?

Yes obviously, but my meaning was that the fact they haven't conceded so far is a stat that won't last long, as is the stat that they haven't scored yet.

Just playing around with my team. Im really tempted to go with Nasri AND Silva going forward (currently have neither :-()

I think those two are gonna play the majority of PL games, Dzeko Aguero & Tevez are gonna rotate for the attacking spots. Ive managed to get a decent side with those 2, and attacking coverage for United, Chelsea, Liverpool & Arsenal as well.

Confused ... How does this look?
    WC intact and 1 transfer:

    Given (Ruddy)
    Kompany N.Taylor Brown (J.Enrique Simpson)
    Young Silva Brunt Dyer (Ferguson)
    Rooney Suarez Dzeko

Have 3.3m in the bank and want to do Brunt > Mata but 0.2m short!

Either use the transfer or WC, Given, Kompany, Enrique, Suarez, Dzeko also expendible...

Eugh. I think this is the hardest captaining choice i’ve ever had because of how many people have Rooney (C). Stay with the pace, don’t risk anything, if he fails everyone does….or gamble on someone who could be a huge differential and a huge catch up in mini-leagues if Rooney doesn’t score or assist.

Torn between Rooney, Dzeko, Bent, Osman and maybe Mata.

Thoughts on Nasri as captain this week? I don't have a stand out captain and am yet to have 1 score more than 2 pts this season! Walcot would be if he and Ars showed better form. Surely Rooney can't continue big scores vs Chelsea?! Can he??!

Rip apart my Wildcard Team – leaving 0.7m in the bank:

    Given – Ruddy
    Shawx – Brown – Simpson – Ward – Kompany
    Jarvis – Anderson – M Petrov – Silva – Mata
    Rooney – Adebayor – Dzeko

Defence is a tad weak, but planning to upgrade Ward to £5.4m defender next week if he does not deliver.

I can see my captain choices being Rooney then Mata, Rooney, Mata, Rooney for the next few gameweeks. Hopefully by then Rooneys forms gone completely and i can start going for more obscure (not obscure but anything other than Rooney seems to be so far) captain choices like Adebayor vs QPR, Arteta vs Sunderland, Bent vs WBA etc.

Hmmm I thought you'd say that 😉 I of course currently have 2. So will need to make a transfer this week and next to get from 2 to 1.

I'd rather have 2 to be honest. Think between Dzeko, Tevez and Aguero they'll each play 2/3 of the games. Talk of rotation is being overplayed a little. Ward is also part of a pretty solid defence this season and can play up front. Don't rate Odemwingie as high as many on here, certainly don't think he's worth as much as he's priced at.

    How’s this look?

    Begovic (Vorm)
Shawcross, Bosingwa, Kompany (Taylor(SWA), De Laet)
    Jarvis, Silva, Nani, Walcott (Dyer)
    Rooney, Adebayor, Odemwinge

    Need some advice;

I'm so against taking point hits as I feel it often doesn't pay off, but I need to get rid of Hilario and if I swap him for Ruddy I can then put Ward in for De Laet - Is that worth 4 points? Hardly the most exotic of transfers but still...

    So;

    Hilario > Ruddy
    De Laet > Ward

Depending on rest of your team. But doesnt seem worth a hit. Do one transfer this week and the next, next week

Does anyone know if you can use your wildcard to buy and sell the same player over and over again? I have transferred Scott Dann in and out five times in the last three days which seems daft. Even if I captain him and he gets a clean sheet and a goal I'm only really breaking even on the transaction.

Huh?! When you wildcard you can do that, I don't know why you would though? There's no benefit unless if he were dropping in price or something

Dont really want to get rid but with Gerard close to returning im not sure what will happen,

Odemwingie has swa, FUL, sun, WOL in his next 4 fixtures and opting for him would give me 2million ton invest elsewhere, probably my midfield if Moses or Arteta dont pul their fingers out.

        Given (Ruddy)

Bosingwa, Enrique, Richards (De Laet, Simpson)

        Moses, Jarvis, Silva, Arteta, (Tiote)

        Saurez, Aguero, Rooney

When people talk about keepers that rotate what do you mean??

home and away fixtures that match up nicely you want a combo that when one keeper is playing at home the other is away, or easy and difficult fixtures that don't clash the best combination of both of these and then you can rotate your keepers.

If they rotate well, one of the two has an easy game most weeks.

      This spreadsheet displays it:
