The last-minute August transfer window move to QPR seems to have offered Shaun Wright-Phillips a new lease of life. The winger cut a forlorn figure on the periphery of Roberto Mancini’s title-challenging Man City but, plucked from his Etihad Stadium nightmare by Neil Warnock, Wright-Phillips has been handed the chance to resurrect his career. Under the guidance of a manager with complete faith in his abilities, he is already making an impact at Loftus Road.

MasterstrokeOpen ControlsSo I just took Ashley Young out of my team. Am I mad?
I did a double transfer: Young & Ruiz out for Mata & Adebayor. I already have Rooney.Open ControlsI find it better to ask this sort of question before, rather than after the event. If you've already done it what's the point of asking?
Open ControlsI'm looking at getting Young and/ or Nani, so I wouldn't have, but Mata could be inspired.
Open ControlsInsane, Young? really? taking him out is like taking a link out of a chain, tut tut, mannioni takes pity on you 🙂

as a real outsider punt
crazy but i have 5 on itOpen ControlsPersonally speaking, I think the stats
for Sunderland, if nothing else,
question the mindset the players are
put in (or not) following a victory. I
thought it raised some interesting
points, possibly for debate, possibly not Looking at the Sunderland’s to
performing keeper and defenders for 2009/10 & 2010/11 we see this info:
2009/10
Craig Gordon 26 apps
Phil Bardsley 26 apps
George McCartney 25 apps
Michael Turner 33 apps
Anton Ferdinand 24 apps
How did Sunderland perform in their next PL game following on from a victory that season? 1 win, 3 draws, 7 defeats
2010/11
Simon Mignolet 23 apps
Phil Bardsley 34 apps
Onuoha 31 apps
Anton Ferdinand 27 apps
Titus Bramble 23 apps
How did Sunderland perform in their next PL game following on from a victory that season? 1 win, 5 draws, 5 defeats.
On average, 3 different players in
defence and goal from 09/10 season to 10/11. Both seasons we can look at 11 games following on from a victory and in both seasons, just the 1 win. Is it the players, the management, the sample size? Do you think the likes of O’Shea & Brown are going to improve
Bramble and Bardsley (when not
suspended)
Is applebonker online yet ?
As for applebonker’s question
relating to Anton Ferdinand at QPR – I think there are 2 QPR defenders worth looking at
- Luke Young and Anton Ferdinand.
Traore is too expensive, crap VFM and not a great player. The other CB role is still to be determined. The reason I mention Ferdinand’s set-pieces is a little tongue in cheek. However in 138 games at West Ham he scored 5 goals. In 87 games for Sunderland and QPR he has scored 0, so you’d like to think that at some point you’d see him knocking in a few headers from set
pieces, especially as they have Barton pinging in the free-kicks/corners.Open ControlsDeja vu
Open Controlsferdinand goalscoring is heavily linked to confidence
Open ControlsVery interesting re: Sunderland and their form the next GW coming off a victory. I have a 2nd transfer this week and was contemplating 'Big Game' Bendtner (for the now flu-stricken Shane Long) but having read that I don't think I'll bother!
Re: QPR defenders I couldn't agree more. Ferdinand is in my plans for next week (though the way Luke Young has been charging up the field he might pay better dividends short-term for just a few FF £'s more)Open ControlsAs I've posted in the new post, I'm wondering what the home/away breakdown is. Are the victories home/losses away? Or vice-versa?
That would go a long way to explaining the stats. For example, Arsenal was better away than home ... United better home than away last season.Open Controls
