The Gameweek Captain Poll is in full swing with well over 1000 votes already collected. Yet again we’ve got a clear four-horse race, a tussle dominated by the big-scoring forwards, with familiar names rotating at the top.

City’s Sergio Aguero leads matters – a situation no doubt compounded by Roberto Mancini’s decision to bench him last night while Carlos Tevez and Mario Balotelli led the charge on Birmingham in the Carling Cup. Aguero looks set to start against Everton on Saturday, regardless of the looming trip to Munich in the Champions League next Tuesday.

Almost 100 votes separate the Argentine from Robin Van Persie; the Arsenal striker has the pedigree and the fixture to rip it up for his Fantasy owners at the weekend, but nagging doubts remain. Arsenal’s form continues to stutter and the Dutchman is yet to ignite in Fantasy terms. Bolton’s defence has gaping holes to exploit but there will be concern that, even if Arsenal capitalise, Van Persie will take on the role of provider rather than the executioner.

Liverpool’s Luis Suarez is another who has work to do to claim a place back in our hearts. The date with Wolves at Anfield looks crucial, not only for Liverpool’s confidence following the White Hart Lane spanking, but also for Suarez, after slipping to three consecutive blanks. We’ve seen heavy sales of the Uruguayan this week – we’d expect that to accelerate should he fail to notch against Mick McCarthy’s side. With 13% of our vote so far, there are still plenty backing him to come good.

Inevitably, Wayne Rooney completes our top four. Despite cruising for a bruising with a trip to the Britannia, the on-fire Rooney has a swell of support prepared to hand him another armband. Who can blame them? Nine goals in five matches have seen the United man soar to the top of the scoring charts, on the verge of earning “essential” status in Fantasy terms. If you have him, back him – it’s paid off in spades so far.

Midfield prospects Juan Mata and David Silva look promising but perhaps not quite enough to break the big strikers’ monopoly; it’s hard to imagine either making ground in the Poll, given the ownership of the men above them. There’s still time though – plenty of votes to be gathered. Make yours count on the homepage before Saturday’s deadline.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Does anybody see any sense in downgrading Silva to Cabaye in order to replace Klasnic with Aguero? I have sufficient cash in the bank to do so... I would greatly appreciate any help 🙂

my team is absolutely horrific tbh, im not going to shame myself into posting it here but downgrading A Young to Cabaye wold also allow me to bring in Aguero. I thought that would be even more crazy tbh

Downgrade Cashley to a 4.5m defender. That should give you enough cash to get Aguero for Klasnic. I'd also ditch Sess for SWP but wait and do it without taking a hit.

really not sure who to go for.. thinkin
Mata>Suarez>Rooney at the moment for captain choice.. the first two will be real differentials.. however if rooney explodes again i'm prob gonna be too far back

Has to be. The last two weeks i've wanted to captain Adebayor but played it safe with RVP. Earlier in the season, i wanted to captain Bent (1goal & 1 assist) but again, i played it safe. This time, i have no doubts, it can only be a good thing!

I am not sure either to be honest. However, I think it is too early to be thinking about differentials. Carry on going for the players you think will score highest.

I am waiting until next week to bring in Nani or Young. The Norwich game is the one you don't want to be short of MNU for. IMO

That's a tough call, but I guess if the best in your league has Nani have him too and make difference somewhere else. Also, both can score goals, but Nani somehow looks much more eager to do so 🙂 That's just me, though.

De Laet didn't play because he's hardly covered himself in glory so far and Lambert loves to rotate. I'd bench Dyer, De Laet and Brown (Smalling might be injured so he may have to be benched). To improve your midfield sell Smalling (rotation risk) for a 4-4.5 and upgrade Moses to SWP. Doesn't have to be done in one week

    Here's a question.

Silva costs 9.8 and has scored 36 points. Dzeko costs 8.8 and has scored 40 points. Both players scored 5 points last game.

So why is it that thousands of people each day still buy Silva, but Dzeko is dropping like a stone?

Newc have been solid, so I'd be doubling up if I had the chance.
Captain choice is between Aguero and Mata. Have all 3 but Stoke away never an easy fixture so Rooney out. Depends on your scores to date and how much you need a differential, I suppose. I'm way behind, so am going for Mata myself as at home v Swansea and playing key role. Aguero on fire but may be subbed early to save him for CL fixture.
So, given my success (not) in recent weeks, and given I'm going for Mata, you should go for Aguero 🙂

Personally, I will double up on newc at the expense of brown. My defence line for this GW is only Newcastle players.

I have got all three players in my team too and I am going to captain Aguero. So far he has been scoring goals and with a home game in hand he sounds like as the obvious choice. One never know whether roo may not explode, yet, I feel like Aguaro is a safer bet to deliver. Mata is not ready to be a captain yet. He has been briliant when it comes to set pieces and creating opportunities, but his teammates have to start scoring goals first so that he can score points.

Your line up gave me a thought whether not change my goalie - putting vorm on the bench at the expense of ruddy. It will be a last call.

I like your front line and Mata and Silva should be good picks too, anything Petrov and Moses do will be a bonus and the defence looks decent. Think it's good enough for this week, but the subs aren't too good, in that it's unclear whether De Laet is a regular, Ferguson is a waste and Everton don't look like keeping too many clean sheets. So I'd look to sort out De Laet, Jagielka and Ferguson as your next steps, but like I say, if your 11 all play it looks good to me.

That it's easy to score lots of goals in Holland. Kezman, Afonso Alves, Dirk Kuyt were all prolific there.

I know there are counter-examples (Ruud, RvP, Ronaldo) but they had to prove themselves in harder leagues. Scoring lots of goals in Holland does not make you a great striker. I do rate Suarez highly, but not because of his scoring record there.

Dzeko is yet to prove himself anywhere to that level, . And the 08-09 team that Suarez was in would hands down DESTROY 3/4 of the premiership that year day in day out.

the great thing is a false cycle is now in place where if anderson lives up to his potential it will be rammed down everyone's throats, even though the argument was never that anderson wasn't a good player, simply that fabregas is another level. c'est la vie

you never once admitted rooney was off form at the start of last season. you were adamant he was just a different player which is true, a worse one. seeing him now and in 09/10 and it's impossible to argue he wasn't off form at the start of last season, even he said it, not that he had to.
oh and the worse part was when he picked his game up in the second half of the season you then used that to have a go at people who said he was struggling which seemed nothing more than your own misunderstanding that A) people were saying he's not a good player full stop. - they weren't they were saying he was playing badly there and then, playing badly for his standards.
and B) when people were saying he's not the best in the world in 09/10 that seemed to be turned into people saying he's not very good full stop as opposed to he's just not as good as messi, or one further my point that i dodn't think he was any better than drogba that season, then man who scored more goals, more spectacular goals, won the title and chipped in with 8 more assists as well.

This is a massively simplified version of what was actually a complex chain of events. For starts the debate began AFTER his resurgence (the overhead kick vs City). This was the catalyst. I don't want to get into it again, but it's akin to you remembering what i said to garg as 'no one cares'. You're welcome to your opinion, but this certainly isn't how it played out.

Still haven't had a chance to watch Sunderland-Stoke. Impressive that they put up 4 goals last week, and makes me a bit nervous for De Laet potential return this weekend.

Mata not VDV. But why do you want Enrique? I have him and has done nothing so far this season - just 12 pts. Much better options available, often cheaper, with double the points.

Good fixtures are fine on paper but real form is what counts. I'm gonna offload Enrique next week if he doesn't deliver v Wolves. Bought him on the promise of CSs and possible assists, but nothing has materialised. No mercy 🙂

Looking at mid-term not just this GW, you could look at ShawX (good home CS chances), Jagielka, Ward (OOP bonus). Alternatively downgrade to N Taylor and boost your MF. Or upgrade defence budget and get Bosingwa / Jones via swapping Taarabt for Barton.
