The Gameweek Captain Poll is in full swing with well over 1000 votes already collected. Yet again we’ve got a clear four-horse race, a tussle dominated by the big-scoring forwards, with familiar names rotating at the top.

City’s Sergio Aguero leads matters – a situation no doubt compounded by Roberto Mancini’s decision to bench him last night while Carlos Tevez and Mario Balotelli led the charge on Birmingham in the Carling Cup. Aguero looks set to start against Everton on Saturday, regardless of the looming trip to Munich in the Champions League next Tuesday.

Almost 100 votes separate the Argentine from Robin Van Persie; the Arsenal striker has the pedigree and the fixture to rip it up for his Fantasy owners at the weekend, but nagging doubts remain. Arsenal’s form continues to stutter and the Dutchman is yet to ignite in Fantasy terms. Bolton’s defence has gaping holes to exploit but there will be concern that, even if Arsenal capitalise, Van Persie will take on the role of provider rather than the executioner.

Liverpool’s Luis Suarez is another who has work to do to claim a place back in our hearts. The date with Wolves at Anfield looks crucial, not only for Liverpool’s confidence following the White Hart Lane spanking, but also for Suarez, after slipping to three consecutive blanks. We’ve seen heavy sales of the Uruguayan this week – we’d expect that to accelerate should he fail to notch against Mick McCarthy’s side. With 13% of our vote so far, there are still plenty backing him to come good.

Inevitably, Wayne Rooney completes our top four. Despite cruising for a bruising with a trip to the Britannia, the on-fire Rooney has a swell of support prepared to hand him another armband. Who can blame them? Nine goals in five matches have seen the United man soar to the top of the scoring charts, on the verge of earning “essential” status in Fantasy terms. If you have him, back him – it’s paid off in spades so far.

Midfield prospects Juan Mata and David Silva look promising but perhaps not quite enough to break the big strikers’ monopoly; it’s hard to imagine either making ground in the Poll, given the ownership of the men above them. There’s still time though – plenty of votes to be gathered. Make yours count on the homepage before Saturday’s deadline.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I'm struggling between Aguero, Adebayor, and Torres. I wonder if this is the week Torres breaks through.
