While the title alludes to a debate on the merits of Kevin Campbell and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, it is instead a new podcast spilling with words on the Fantasy Football craze that’s taken the nation by storm – buy cheap at the back, buy big up front.

It’s working, in fact it’s working rather too well. Can it continue? Mark and I lay the subject down, cut it open and sift through the giblets to offer our post mortem. Messy stuff.

Elsewhere, the minutes are filled with more discussion on the fixtures vs form argument, with the usual regulars scattered liberally.

    Adebayor for captain this weekend?
I'm a bit shaky on going for it, anyone else taking a punt on him?
I am aware that there is a Captain poll on the homepage before i get bombarded by people being sarcastic, just wanted a few people's opinions...?
    Cheers 🙂

If Wigan GO down on 9 men!? It would be a "masterstroke"!? Amazing what a slight switcahroo with words can do to a sentence. Hahaha...hmmmmm...right...moving along...

Right...depending on the weekend results...and basically whether Suarez can pull something off...which option would you choose to run with for the next little while:

    1. Suarez and Silva
    2. Aguero and Arteta
    3. Suarez and Nasri

Only those options..only those combinations...fire away...

Yo Ships...nice history you got going there...answer me this real quick...would you choose option 1 if it meant a 4 point knock? Budget obviously an issue but could scrape it together...what you reckon?

Depends who else you've got in MF / attack. I shipped out (ineffective) RVP but got Arteta in just in case Arsenal start playing. Other top teams covered with Nasri, Mata, Rooney, Aguero etc . . .

Shane Ferguson has yet to play a single minute for Newcastle, and it will probably stay that way all season.

He might rise in price tonight.

Now this must be an FPL first!!

I kinda like how the system has worked, eventually he might get to 4.5 and then it will be pointless having him.

Although that means that some managers may have made 0.2m profit from someone who hasn't played. :S

No way he will get to 4.5 without playing. The 4.0 to 4.5 differential is big enough to tempt people to get a waste of space, but as that gap closes his price will stop rising.

I would be cshocked if it managed to get to 4.2 even

Don't think Aguero will play full 90, just three days later it's Bayern Munich, away, and he's the most technically gifted striker in their squad.

I have Rooney and Dzeko but I'm 90% sure I'm going to go for glory and captain Suarez.

          Why not D?
Bosingwa has Swansea and Bolton, Jones has Stoke and Norwich.
Whereas Baines has Man City and Liverpool?
And if you don't play fixtures, then D is also the form pairing....

Well i currently have Bains AND Mertesacker, i need to ship one of them out in order to get Aguero in just 2 transfers. If i take Baines out, then i can get anyone 6.7 or less. If i take Mertesacker out then i can get anyone 4.7 or less.

If it helps this is only for the next 2 GWs. As i intend to WC during the international break unless my team has a big turn around.

While I could do that, it would involve 8pt hit as I feel I HAVE to bring Aguero in. Worth it?

lol, every price change today was negative. not a single player went up in price. certainly the vast majority of price changes i recall have been downwards. is it inevitable, or should FPL maybe set their prices a little less optimistically?

I'm currently struggling with the large swings that we seem to be getting this year, they seem to have made it easier for players to go up and down in value (see Dzecko) and i'm finding its backing me into a hole.

The older way you seemed to be able to plan and soak up price drops some times.

Do you mean you reckon the NTI threshold has gone down relative to previous seasons? So less net transfers are required to cause price changes in either direction?

TBH I just use a player price tracker like FISO to keep on top of which direction my players' prices are heading in. Then I factor that into transfer decisions. It is a curse though, it can make seemingly sensible transfers agonizing.

I don't actually know if the NTI has changed or not, or if its just they way the season has started but things certainly feel more... volatile that recent years.

This is my second season and I was playing pretty casually in the first, so casually that I actually didn't even realize players prices moved. lmao. So I wouldn't have a clue about whether they're more volatile now. I suppose you could say that a bucketload of popular players this season have flopped points-wise. Torres, Carroll, Lampard, Moses, Rodallega, Taarabt, the entire Arsenal team.

At the same time, and partly related to it, there are currently very few points machines the way Fabregas, Lampard, Gerrard, Drogba and Tevez were. All you have are lots of high-potential mid-priced players that rise and fall according to the whims of the crowd because their points are all too similar. And also, the big teams' defences haven't been reliable so there's been huge flight to lesser teams' defences which depend more on fixtures and form, hence the mad swings.

Too long, didn't read? Basically just saying the number of transfers is pretty damn high right now because of uncertainty in an unpredictable start to the season. And that's probably causing the volatility.

I always choose the attacking player as a first bench, cause in that case I could loose less points on my bench. By how many defenders u have available? If u have less than 3, then Simpson will be your defender anyway.

      Hughes will play BTW.

I think its meant to be about the fact that if you look at your team on FPL then all the strikers are at the bottom of the page. If you have some heavy hitters there then that would be 'bottom heavey'.

What do people think on the rleative merits of:

    A) Adebayor Arteta Nani Cabaye
    B) Dzeko Wright-Phillips Young Cabaye
    C) Best Wright-Phillips Young Mata

Some more expensive than others - funded through defender downgrades, but I'm curious from an attacking point of view what people think is the top option?

I think A to be honest by a nose,
barndoor is hot and cold and better to have when he's hot and then get rid, arteta has nice fixtures and is at a nice price for mid, Nani is coming into nice form, slow start points wise but he's just as viable now as young was, same points as Silva,Cabaye i like too, although has't set the world on fire, settling in though it seems.

U've asked previously (or maybe someone else)as I remember and u've listened my advice regarding Watson. I believe he is good punt until GW 13. I think he will be my replacement for Brunt (but not this week) and that 0.5 will be used for Matawagon!!!

I like the transfers but can u avoid the 4 point hit? I am not convinced by Gabby and when I am bringing a striker, I always check the transfer 5 times cause as i see it it is valuable striker spot. Gabby is fine, but McCleish is worrying me. Just playing Devils advocate here 🙂

Yeah you planted the idea of Watson and I think Granville's sealed it in the podcast. I can't work around the hit but it'll be my first one this year.

I think I trust McCleish. Aggie looks brilliant this year and he's had a decent pre-season under his belt. He looks like he's making out to be the striker we thought he'd become for years.

Union > Football > League for me!

This is for internationals and playing the sport myself, otherwise the Premier League is streets ahead.

Having said that, I can't wait for the next State of Origin. Come on you Blues!

I play League, and am 'contracted' to a club at the moment, so saying any other sport is ahead of League would be blasphemy for me 😛

I missed the first part of your question! I'm in Melbourne. Love my AFL, but I'd rather sit down for a game of football any day of the week.

    Hi folks,

The big conundrum for this week: Zog > Nani/Mata

It's out of those two and it comes down to fixtures vs form...

Currently thinking of going Nani due to form (both player and team favour Nani) but he has 2 of the toughest away games in the next 3... Stoke at the Britania and Liverpool at Anfield.

On the other hand, Mata looks to be the creative spark for Chelsea and it looks like they will score goals over the next few games...

    Any input/predictions? Thanks

Nt sure myself other than norwich next week man utd fixtures dnt look the best 2 gameweek 11... Nani is also a rotation risk with valencia/park etc... I think i will go mata as he has better fixtures, majority of set pieces and playing further forward...

I think you should be able to arrange 'Friendly Matches' on FPL. Any time you want you can challenge a player to H2H match! How good would that be? It would solve a lot of arguments on this site!

but with the current programming to-do list, it would get implemented for the 2013-14 season

In that order. Aguero may not play the full match to save him for Bayern. Then again, he could easily score a 2 or 3 in an hour.

      Rooney or Aguero 🙂

Not at all. Rooney away to Stoke, Suarez at home to Wolves. If I had Suarez, he'd be getting my armband.

Stoke ran themselves knackered the other day and United are on fire. Suarez is a definitely a risk and could obviously pay off but the smart money's on Rooney.

    Nani Walcott Brunt SWP
    Suarez(c) Dzeko

    Subs: Baines Moses A.Johnson

Obviously I plan on getting Rooney but unless I take an 8 point hit I can't this week. So with 1.9 in bank I am looking to add to that by going Baines down (And who for).. What do people suggest??

OK after much temptation to wimp out, I am going for the plunge! (so long I don't desperately log onto my account at 11:29)

    Vorm in goal against Chelsea.

    RMT pls:

    Krul (Vorm)

De Laet , S Taylor, Bosingwa, J Enrique (Ward)

    Moses, Silva, Arteta(Dyer, Tchoyi)

    Dzeko, Rooney, RVP(c)

    Transfers made this GW : 1 , FT left : 0 , Bank : 2.9m

I want to ditch Tchoyi since he's not playing. I could upgrade Dzeko ot Aguero, although I never switch players from the same team. De Laet is a disaster for Norwich recently, I doubt if he's even going to play at all. Moses is probably playing his last in my team too.
