While the title alludes to a debate on the merits of Kevin Campbell and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, it is instead a new podcast spilling with words on the Fantasy Football craze that’s taken the nation by storm – buy cheap at the back, buy big up front.

It’s working, in fact it’s working rather too well. Can it continue? Mark and I lay the subject down, cut it open and sift through the giblets to offer our post mortem. Messy stuff.

Elsewhere, the minutes are filled with more discussion on the fixtures vs form argument, with the usual regulars scattered liberally.

    Scezney - Vorm

    Bosingwa/Jones/Kompany - R Taylor + Cahill

    Silva/Arteta/Henderson/Barton - Delph

    RVP/Bendtner/Dzeko

    AM I DOING SOMETHING WRONG?

There is better value for a goalkeeper at a cheaper price. Arsenal aren't exactly going to keep many clean sheets so 6.0 for an Arsenal keeper is not worth it.

There is no united cover in your midfield or attack. They're top scorers with 21 goals. Get in Nani, Young or Rooney. Lose one or two of your expensive defenders to improve the rest of your squad.

I agree wth Jck & Maz on Szczesny but I wouldn't rush to change him unless you're on a wildcard anyway this week.

Arsenal have nice fixtures and keep enough possession to limit their opponents chances. He will get some cleanies over the next few weeks.

    Given Vorm
    Baines Bosingwa Kompany Enrique Simpson
    Walcott Nani SWP Brunt Moses
    Suarez Dzeko A.Johnson

Is it worth wildcarding?? I think not but its doing my head in as to how to get the cash to get rooney.. Looking at obviously Baines down probably to a 4.0. On top of my 1.9 this will leave me with 5.9 and with A.Johnson only at 5.2 I will still be 1.4 short and I don't know where to get this from. Most likely Walcott down but will my defence and mids then be to weak. Plus I can't do it all this week unless I take hits so prices will change.

    Any ideas??

      Baines>Brown
      A.Johnson>Adebayor

I would probably do this for now and worry about getting Rooney next week. Stoke away is not a good fixture for us and I don't see many goals to be honest, just one United player will be fine, especially if it's Nani. Your midfield is excellent for this week and your defence will rotate nicely if you bring in Brown. Adebayor might be a bit of a one week punt, but Wigan's defence is shocking!

Hope this helps, I really don't think you need to wildcard by the way!

Irritatingly it looks like you will require major surgery to get Rooney in for Johnson. Baines will need to go, Enrique or Kompany would have to be downgraded and you'd probably have to downgrade one of SWP/Brunt/Moses for (predicatably) Dyer. I don't think it's worth a wildcard though. If Rooney is that important to you then I'd look at upping one of Suarez/Dzeko from the proceeds you get from Baines. In the short term you can can comfortably play 4 at the back and even 5 in midfield, you can sort out getting rid of Johnson at a later date and just stick him on the bench.

...but if you are set on wildcarding then I'd advise doing it not this week but next week to get the most out of the prices rises from the international break, there may also be injuries to take into consideration resulting from the games.

Ok, maybe the wisdom of the crowd can help me, my captain choices this season haven't been the best:

    Wk1 - Toure 14 (could have been Richards 18)
    Wk2 - Rooney 14 (could have been Jarvis 28)
    Wk3 - Bent 4 (could have been Rooney 44)
    Wk4 - Silva 20 (could have been Rooney 34)
    Wk5 - Baines 4 (could have been Dyer 20)

Total points from captains - 56
    Could have had - 144

    Main candidates this week:

    Silva
    Arteta
    Dzeko
    Rooney
    Adebayor

    Any advice?

Most seasons I'd be happy to be averaging about 11 points a week from my captain but there's been some scarily large scores which I've missed out on. Probably doesn't help when the main player I compare my team to is my brother who has captained Rooney at all the key points and has had Aguero alongside him!

I work on the basis that if I don't get my captain choice right at least 1 in 5 attempts I'm doing badly, hence my growing frustration. Think it's the part of the game which gives me more headaches than anything!!

At the same time Rooney could have scored a HT against Chelsea. He had 3 golden opportunities; hit the post and missed a penalty. I think that if your captain scores double figures (after the multiplier), than it's a good choice.

To be fair no one is going to captain Richards/Jarvis or Dyer...they are few and far between points haulage.

      You've got some good options:

Silva if you want to play it safe
Dzeko if you have big fat hairy ones 😉

Yeah, they would have been a bit ridiculous but Bent would have got me a nice haul instead of Jarvis in GW3 hence the catastrophic decision to captain him in GW4!

Think my big fat hairy ones may have shrunk and shed a little hair since they got slapped for captaining Baines last week!

The (C) is currently sitting with Arteta but that will almost certainly change before tomorrow. Cheers for the advice.

Windows DVD allows you to add menus etc. MP4 isn't compatible tho. ConvertXtoDVD is good for what you need to do, just add files, it converts them and burns them. Because they're mp4, they may need to be converted to a different format. ConvertXtoDVD does this and allows you to make a menu first. It's not free unless you download it from a one of those free download sites. I, of course, don't recommend that sort of thing 😉 Sorry if that sounds a bit complicated.

I didn't ask because I don't think he'll be in the team. I asked as I want to know who is dropping out.

I missed Pardew's comments but Ba would make sense. Ben Arfa could be a good option with Newcastles fixtures then. & Aguerro has been on fire.

Ben Arfa will definitely be in the first XI once he's fully fit but I can't see him playing 90 minuts for a while yet.

Pretty likely he'll be coming off the bench at some point against Blackburn rather than being in the starting line up IMO.

    Ruddy
    Bosingwa, Richards, S Taylor
    Arteta, Young, Brunt, Silva
    Rooney, Dzeko(c), Suarez

    Vorm, Dyer, Boyata, De Laet

For the second week in a row I don't feel the need to make a transfer as all but Rooney and Young have nice home fixtures. I will probably get rid of De Laet for Lopez or similar and carry two over again but I keep getting an urge to swop Young for Mata. Good or bad move? .1m in bank.

My transfers this week basically come down to.

    A, Dzeko and Mata
    B, Aguero and a 7.6 mid.

Hmmm, any thoughts? I'm edging towards A, as Mata would be the only Chelsea coverage i'd have, and there seems to be very little offerings in the mid-range midfield.

11/10 for Suarez this week - 48% chance of scoring.
5/4 for Dzeko - 44% chance of scoring.

    Krul
    Bos-Kompany-Jose Enrique
    Young-Nasri-Walcott(vc)-Brunt
    Roon(c)-Dzeko-Agbanlohor

    Henessey-De laet- dyer- taylor(swa).

Any predictions on the points total for this week???

Would love to have Nani-Silva ATM but, will stick with these guys for the mo.

Why do you want to double on MANC mid? Pick Silva or Nasri, leave Walcott or swap him with Arteta, Mata, Modric/VDV (risky), or a LIV mid, although I don't see any interesting options there atm. You can also bring Adebayor in for Dzeko, and then pick Silva.

I don't think lack of Silva is a worry, most teams only have one of Nasri/Silva.

Two options around the Super Six:

Moses + Dyer with Enrique, Bramble and three 4 Millers

    or

Petrov + Dyer with five 4 millers in a superubercheap defence.

A couple of years ago, the guy that won FPL, employed this very strategy.

With the Super Six averaging 10 ppg and low budget defenders leading the way, this could be a worthwhile strategy this year.

Just a thought with the way things are panning out this year 😕

I agree, think it's a bit early to tell, but I understand that on a wildcard this is pretty much unavoidable. I would have to have all of these players if I had the choice.

I understand the strategy Jafalad, but if it doesn't work out it leaves your team horribly unbalanced and tough to fix without taking hits...remember you won't have your other wildcard for 15 gameweeks...

The problem is Fratboy is that the scoring is not balanced in FPL.

Fwds score more than mids score more than defs score more than goalies.

    Suggestion:
Hate picking captains? Fed up of the captains poll producing poor returns?

Just get Rooney and Aguero and captain whichever one is playing at home that week (Man Utd and Man City always play home and away on a rotating basis). Put the other one as vice.

Both consistent scorers for top teams, both nailed on to start virtually every PL game, perfect home / away rotation.

    Sorted.

If you're looking to get in Nani, I'd downgrade RvP. Possibly to Dzeko, maybe Sturridge if he looks set to start a bit more.

Would also like the look of Torres/Aguero for RvP (I think Torres is about to blow out).

Can we expect Brunt to start this week? Considering the 120 mins in the Cup.
I think Walcott will start, so holding off on him to Mata till next week.

OK, I've changed between Silva and Rooney for Captain about 10 times already this morning! Flip of coin?

Damn, just read other post about rotating between City and Utd. So now changed to Dzeko(C) and Rooney (V)

Not sure it works quite as well with Dzeko as he is more prone to rotation. Well, he has been once - the pattern is still to be establish. Aguero has not yet been rotated in the PL, but again its early days.

That said, I think Dzeko will almost certainly start this weekend as he was not even in the squad midweek.

Coin flip really. Although Silva has form as well as a decent fixture.

    Oh hello 🙂

Hey for anyone who was interested in those Boxfresh Tees ( 2 for £10), you may want to check out this place for cheap hoodies and tees, especially the Fenchurch stuff.

    http://www.jamesandjames.com/clothes/mens-sweatshirts-hoodies.htm

I couldn't process my order for ages, so I didn't want to post before I got my second order in (I got one to check the fit), but £18 for a hoodie like that is great value.

FYI, the medium (Fenchurch) is a fairly slim fit, and the sleeves are also quite thin, so if you have massive arms, it might be a little restrictive.

Same 3 players I brought in for 4 point hit. I'm optimistic, but I usually am on a Friday 😛

You got rid of RVP (Bolton at home) and got Nani (Stoke away) as a part of an 8 point hit....uh oh.

Jeez, my team looks crappy for this GW. I'd really, really like it if RVP & Walcott had stormers.
