[sbu_large_image] Scout Picks

With so many mouth-watering home games this weekend, we’ve done the unthinkable and left out Wayne Rooney from the Scout Selection Committee picks. Our standard 4-4-2 formation means the Man United forward is just edged out as we opted for the home comforts of another couple of big-money options instead. After a productive Gameweek 5, we’re hoping for more of the same so, without further ado, here’s who we’ve plumped for this time round:

Patrick Kenny earns his place between the posts after chalking up two back-to-back clean sheets. There’s an added solidity to QPR in light of Neil Warnock’s late summer splurge and with Aston Villa scoring just two goals and yet to chalk up a win on their travels, a Loftus Road showdown bodes well for last year’s Championship winners.

Jose Bosingwa is a nailed-on pick. Chelsea have yet to earn a clean sheet since the opening day of the season, but Bosingwa has picked up an assist and a goal in his two home games so far. Added to the fact that visitors Swansea have scored in just one game this season and the right-back looks a solid option.

Liverpool will be desperate to bounce back from two consecutive league defeats on the road and a home clash with Wolves should give them the perfect chance to rectify this. Mick McCarthy’s side have looked a little toothless of late and have now failed to score in their last three league games. Jose Enrique offers security at the back and plenty going forward, as he threatens down the left flank for Kenny Dalglish’s side.

The tightest defence in the Premier League, up against Blackburn Rovers? We can’t say no to this one and while Davide Santon remains sidelined, Ryan Taylor looked a dead cert pick for Newcastle. The top-scoring FPL defender so far this season, Taylor’s dead-ball ability sees him steal ahead of namesake Steven and earn himself a starting role in the Scout Picks.

With so much rotation going on around him, Vincent Kompany seems the safest pick when eyeing up the Man City defence. The return of Kolo Toure in midweek for the Carling Cup match with Birmingham only adds to the possible permutations and with Roberto Mancini rotating his full-backs seemingly at will, the City skipper gets the nod as Everton visit the Etihad Stadium.

It was simple as this – we needed Man United cover in the eleven and with no Wayne Rooney up front, it was left to Nani and Ashley Young to battle it out for a place in our midfield. The Portuguese winger’s consistency and outstanding display against Chelsea won us over; he offers us further goal potential as United make their way to the Britannia on Saturday evening.

We never thought we’d see the day where Shaun Wright-Phillips come into our Fantasy thoughts again. However, the transfer to QPR has revitalised the little man, and with a free role in Neil Warnocks’s new-look side, his two appearances so far have been reminiscent of his early days at Man City. Wright-Phillips looks in the mood to wreak havoc and we’re backing him to come good against Aston Villa.

As the influence of Frank Lampard on Chelsea continues to rapidly recede under the stewardship of Andre Villas-Boas, Juan Mata becomes more prominent by the Gameweek. As mentioned in the Watchlist piece, last time round he made more scoring chances for his team-mates than any player across the ten fixtures – Swansea present a chance for the Spaniard to weave his magic once again.

Out final midfield slot goes, unsurprisingly, to David Silva. Second-top scoring Fantasy midfielder so far only to Ashley Young, though Silva has shown the greater consistency – only one week has he returned less than 5 points so far. With 19 points in his two home games, an Etihad clash with Everton provides the perfect platform for Silva to rack up the points once more.

The threat of rotation will always hang over Man City’s forwards but Roberto Mancini’s midweek Carling Cup selection made up our minds. Sergio Aguero sat on the bench for the game with Birmingham and with five goals in his last two league games, Mancini will be looking for three points after the disappointment of throwing away a two-goal lead at Craven Cottage last weekend.

The final place is our eleven was decided by penalties; Robin Van Persie takes them, Luis Suarez doesn’t. Both have strong home ties with Bolton and Wolves respectively but despite the Gunners poor recent domestic form, the Trotters have been even worse and with spot-kick duties in the bag, the Dutchman gets the nod as the Gunners look to bounce back from last week’s disaster at Blackburn.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Have 2 free transfers:

Am going to do Boswinga in for Baines.

Would you bring P Jones in for Richards or leave additional transfer for now?

    Basically will:

    A? Richards play 60mins
    B) Can City keep clean sheet
C? Can Utd shut out Stoke?

I fancy Jones will be a fixture in the team now.

Leave the transfer. Not convinced Jones is yet concrete. For his price and as a defender you obviously need this. Hence, why I sold Richards.

Richards will play as was rested for midweek. City at home so good value for a CS. More likely to do so than MU I would say. Both a risk for rotation going forward.

Everton have scored in their last 4 visits to City so yes go for Jones. Not only should he keep a clean sheet, he likes to get forward aswell. He also has Norwich home next week.

I’ve wildcarded this week and this is what i’ve got at the moment, how can this be improved in your opinions?

    Vorm – Krul
Bosingwa – Jose Enrique – Brown – Simpson – Gabbidon
    Silva – Mata – Arteta – B.Johnson – Dyer
    Rooney – Aguero – Adebayor

Jafa: repostedi n case you didn't see it on last page:

I’m fine with my cheap defense. LOVED not having Baines this week. Too bad the rest of my team sucked so bad.

Good to see your switching to the darkside on your wildcard.Crazy to see you wildcard so early. Desperate times, I suppose. Sounds like your new team should rock, though.

I can’t decide whether to take a hit to get Aguero in for Dzeko. I know you're big on ‘no hits.’ I also considered wildcarding, but I thought I'd wait with an international break 2 weeks away.

Just not keen on WIG's ability to keep cleenies though. For the same price, Kenny gives you a perfect rotation with Vorm and probably better chances of cs with the likes of Barton shielding the back 4.

      Hey fella!

I decided to be proactive with the situation and take action before:

      a. I fall too far behind

      b. The Super Six reach unobtainable price levels

Yeah, after last year, where I only took one hit all year long, I decided to be a lot more assertive in the transfer market. If the scoring patterns continue, this could well be the year of the cheap defence - as two years ago. It's a gamble but there's not much to lose if things don't work out.

      Best of luck! 🙂

There is such an imbalance in the scoring of FPL points this year (due to the new boni) in favour of goalscorers, that loading up top with the expensive forwards seems the way to go.

You're winning, but if you're so sure Dzeko will do well surely you don't start Baines? I know it could be a 4-2 with Baines assisting or scoring but unlikely!

I don't know, it just feels odd to captain a striker who's playing against a defender I've also picked in my 11. I could well be wrong but as I think the Man City - Everton game will be cagey, I'm considering playing someone like Adebayor for Dzeko so I can root for Baines 🙂

Anyone going with a potential Dzeko AND Aguero alongside Rooney up top?

Seems a risk when Adebayor/Defoe, Suarez and RVP have nice fixtures also.

I'm thinking of wildcarding...would this be a good team?

    Krul (Vorm)
Enrique, Kompany, Simpson (Gabbidon, De Laet)
    Silva, Cabaye, Nani, Dyer (Johnson)
    Adebayor, Rooney, Van Persie

Captain Rooney, RVP or Silva? I'm chasing and most of my rivals will captain Rooney for sure.

Tricky GW this one! I'm going with, and not sure whether it's worth making any transfers.

    Given(qpr)
    Baines(mci) RTaylor(BLA) Bosingwa(SWA)
    Arteta(BOL) Nasri(EVE) MPetrov(ars) Sinclair(che)
    Suarez(WOL) Rooney(sto) Dzeko(EVE)

On the face of it, Petrov and SInclair have tough games but Petrov may well get a few chances against a leaky Arsenal, and Sinclair is back at his old club and is coming off a great game against West Brom.

I'd like to give Baines another week as I think Everton will make City work for their win. That means I'm looking at Nasri and Dzeko as possible transfers out.

I fancy Spurs to score 3 or 4 against Wigan, so the obvious shout is Adebayor for Dzeko. The only niggle is that Adebayor has gone up .2m this week already and I'm only getting .1m profit on Dzeko, so it's annoying that I could've made the move earlier in the week and made much more money! Still worth it this week in fantasy point terms?

Like it while the Manchester teams are on fire. Maybe Mata in for Young?

    Given (Vorm)
    A Cole, Brown, R Taylor (Shawcross-2, R Johnson-3)
    Silva, Walcott, Cabaye, Moses (Anderson-1)
    Agbonlahor, Suarez, Rooney(c).

    Not sure about subs order.

Also want to captain Suarez as a differential but feel that he won't play 90mins but only 65 due to playing midweek. Not sure.

    Thoughts?
