Our UEFA Fantasy Champions League endeavours have pulled around the corner once more. We’re back and looking to ascertain which players might help our European Fantasy managers in their tilt at a title with some continental flavour.

What follows are the latest motley crew to get the Fantasy Football Scout backing ahead of Matchday Two…

He’d won two Champions League titles at the age of 21; quite some pedigree. Given his position as goalkeeper, this is an even more impressive feat. With more years and experience under his belt it’s hard not to be tempted by Real Madrid captain Iker Casillas this Matchday.

A fair amount cheaper will be the 4.5 forked out for Bernd Leno of Leverkusen at home to Genk.

Phil Jones has made light work of his transition to the red side of Manchester after a summer move from Blackburn and with United still shorn of defensive options, his price of just 5.5 makes him seem something of a bargain at home to FC Basel tonight.

The new “recovered balls” bonus in this game will take more than one Matchday to get to grips with. Nevertheless, we’ll bite on the early data. Bakary Kone topped the charts last time round and, playing host to Dinamo Zagreb, joins our watchlist as a result.

After bringing AC Milan to your attention last week, we feel compelled to bring Thiago Silva along as the first of a few Rossoneri selected this Matchday.

When we’re plumping for 4.0 bargain players it’s nice to have names that you’ll recognise. Defender Marek Cech (ex West Brom) of Trabzonspor hosting Lille this weekend meets this criteria.

I have to start our midfield off with him and I’m not even going to apologise about it. Alberto Aquilani gets a bear hug from this scribe and offers plenty of mid-price potential against the champions of the Czech Republic this coming Matchday.

With Wayne Rooney ruled out of Man United’s Champions League tie with FC Basel this evening, we’ll just have to settle for Nani instead. If you can really call it settling.

Over in Germany, Frank Ribery has been enjoying a prolific start to the season with 5 assists, 3 goals and a lot of plaudits coming his way. The visit of a Manchester City side with a new attacking verve should mean he’ll hope to continue in this rich vein of form as Jupp Heynckes’ side try to make the most of the space left behind.

A pair of French-based midfielders are next to get the Scout call-up. Set-piece king Michel Bastos -with a home tie against Zagreb- and the daringly cheap Mathieu Valbuena (but playing for a Marseille side in a major slump right now) are here to offer our choices some Gallic flair.

After also shining the spotlight on Napoli last week we’d be hard pressed to not include at least one of their squad. Edinson Cavani is scoring goals for fun right now and upcoming opponents Villarreal have been in a bit of slumber this season to date. We’ll be hoping these two facts marry perfectly when they meet.

After a thirty minute goalscoring substitute appearance at the weekend, Karim Benzema will be ready to rock and roll around the Bernabeu tonight. With a whole host of Galacticos in support, I wouldn’t bet against the Frenchman. Cristiano Ronaldo is clearly an even better bet if you can afford the hefty price-tag.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is still injured and now Alexandre Pato has ruled himself out of affairs, too. When first announced we shared sentiments that Milan may regret leaving Pippo Inzaghi out of their squad but this now cements Antonio Cassano, a mere 7.5, in the starting line-up.

We pick up one more duty free option from our ferry hop to France before we head home. Bafe Gomis is stowed away in the boot as European Fantasy managers look to get squiffy on his 7.0 ahead of an evening of merriment.

If you are looking for someone a little cheaper to fill that final spot then Andre Schurrle of Leverkusen, at just 6.0, might make a handy budget purchase. Having served a domestic suspension the young man will fresh as the Germans welcome their opponents Genk over from Belgium.

Please note that deadline for your UEFA Fantasy Champions League team selection will be at the earlier time of 17:45 CET (16:45 GMT) today. This is due to CSKA Moscow hosting Inter Milan before all the remaining Tuesday games kick off later this evening.

      What about Welbeck against norwich?

But do you really want to sell rooney only to have to buy him back in a couple of weeks and take a loss on the deal?

I detect a hint of a man-crush so this could go on for a while, lets just wait until we've seen him play Real. An out-of form Real I'll add. 😉

You're the dude who made the racist comment yesterday? Hmmmm still up to no good I see Jack.

David "the man" Brent, your midfield is underwhelming and its obvious that its due to your heavyweight defence. I would almost certainly ditch one of the more expensive defenders, I have temporarily ditched Baines myself. I really think you should get S.Taylor in there, he's a bargain.

Also unsure on Zamora (must be a fixtures thing?) Good team otherwise though.

I know...last season my defense was always scoring, that's why I like to invest in it... but this season baines is not returning the goods... I think you're right abou S.taylor... at first I was thinking newcastle wouldn't keep many cleansheets, but now I don't know... and S.taylor looks like a bps magnet in this new system...

Baines would definatly be the choice to downgrade. I'm doing the same myself this week. And I agree on the Arsenal should. You need some kind of coverage there. Infact - I'd suggest if we here Rooney is out this week just to do a swap for RVP. Nani should still be plenty of coverage.

If it's just a choice of those two I'd go Kompany. Don't think City are going to keep nearly as many CSs this season, they're otuscoring teams, and while Chelsea don't look too firm, Bos has attacking threat and you probably bought him for cheaper.

I'd rather ditch Kompany instead of Baines anyway tbh thinking about it. If you include Enrique there's really no need for 4/5 expensive or midpriced defenders. I'd never go for more than 3.

Also IMO Zamora isn't worth hanging on to since he only seems to play 1/2 games these days. Maybe get someone like Crouch or Agbon instead.

Against Swansea, Wigan and an Everton team with 11 men behind the ball. Don't think over the season they'll keep nearly as many as last year. The defence has lot a lot more exposed and teams with any kind of attacking threat should score more often than not.

Without De Jong they are a different defensive side.
And...to be fair, they will still keep alot more cleanie's than Everton.
IMO, for 2.0 cheaper, Kompany is a better option and will probably score more than Baines come seasons end

you have a very similar team to mine, except my attack is better...but both our midfields are weak. So any criticism from me is purely constructive as you are in the same boat as me.

I'm wildcarding next week..may be an idea for you as well.

      Baines has got to go.
      Brunt is not performing
Kompany, bos and enrique is prob enough for your defence...I'd get a cheap swansea def in for baines.
      Nani - great
Jarvis - good for this week as is Dyer, but long term they are weak..maybe just have these two as your weak mids and have three good ones...Arteta perhaps/Bale...another good 8m ish one on top of say Nani and Mata.
      Murphy - has to go
Zamora- taking up a valuable attacking space
Rooney out this week...but obviously a good choice long term
      Aguero...he's great

That's a whole bunch of players that need to go imo. Good luck with your choices...there's always space on my int week wildcard bus if you fancy.

        and upgrade
        brunt>ramsey
        murphy>ramires

rooney...i bought him for 12 so if i sell him no way i cant fit him in again...

Too late I went Cardozo, Benfica has weaker opponent. Porto and Schakhtar are good teams and in the next 3.

I have 2 ultimate captains so I went for mid price mid and they are all good. Most of my team has 2 in the next 4 at home. I went with 5 at the back. CS's in CL are easier to be predicted and with this recovered balls BP it is worth to have good defense. I recommend it surely.

That leaves me with GW 6 when all the qualified good teams are playing second string lineups, there will be no money issue, Some hits won't do much harm they are worth 2points. So cheap 😀

I don't want to ditch Mata, it feels too kneejerky and he's definitely got points in him. However he's also the easiest person to ditch for Nani if Rooney is out. Basically:
    A) Mata, Nani and 8.7 forward (Currently thinking Sturridge or Wellbeck)
    B) Nani, Taarabt and Aguero

I planned to save the wildcard for a GW when I can have the lineups, but saw it that this is the case in GW 6 the earliest. And that is too late IMO. It is very difficult to catch someone's lead in UCL in the quarter finals. There are very few players as choices. So the lead made in the groups most of the times stays. Even 20 points are tough to overtake. I've learned that in the past 3 years in UCL fantasy.

In GW 6 I will see the lineups too and lets imagine I do 6 transfers that is 10 points, points that will be made easily in the previous matches if I wildcard earlier. I've done it this GW as last year and this strategy made me come in top 50 overall at the end. I had Eto captain in GW2.

Bottom line most of the big teams will be already qualified in GW 6 and there won't be that much possibilities to gain points. Also the meaningful matches will be tough, with low scores and cards. So its not good to wait until GW 6 IMO. But its everyone's decisions at the end.

P.S. Rooney. CR7, Messi won't play in GW 6. Very few good captains picks there will be available and if there any they will be easily covered. Protection on your lead is much easier here

I have Young and Rooney in my team. Once I've seen how the CL games go I will be swapping Rooney to Aguero. It's so tempting to do Young to Nani but am I right in assuming that Young will be on penalties in Rooney's absence? Also, what's the chance of Young playing in a more central striking role as he did for Villa at the end of last season? Hernandez and Welbeck coming back from injury and Berbs being less than excellent....could Young be deployed as a makeshift forward?

He's a nightmare. I brought him in for his high points potential in the odd game, but so far in 3 games he's got 1 assist and been dropped for a game.

If he doesn't play on Sat he's straight out, probably for Suarez. If he plays but scores poorly again then he may have a stay of execution.

          I like Laurent Koscielny.

He's an easy fall-guy because he made some terrible errors during his first 6 months in England, but looking beyond those, he's also put in some very impressive displays with very little credit. He's also had this misfortune of not having a regular centre back partner to gain an understanding with (ideally Vermaelen) due to Arsenal's stupid, and surely non-coincidental injury problems.

Anyway, I digress. When I saw Mertesacker against Swansea, he reminded me of a defensive Peter Crouch; huge, but for the most part inable to get himself too high off the ground.

this may sound stupid but i think people just don't like his face. like when lucas arrived with a 'girly' haircut and name and people found it almost impossible to trust or praise him koscielny's confused cockeral face seems to give the impression of premier league failure. he's no vidic or kompany but similarly i don't see how any of the touted lot in the summer would be an improvement

It might not help. He doesn't either have the chiselled good-looks of Vermaelen, nor the rock-solid brutishness of Vidic's face. He does do the "I've f***ed up and I know it" look quite well.

Although it has to be said that Man U's team is a rather unsightly bunch, and not too many of them get too harsh a ride - maybe Carrick.

I was wondering about the standing order of two teams with same points. Rules say: "In the event of a tie between teams, the team who has made the least amount of transfers will be positioned higher."

I have noticed that transfers made when wildcard has been active have not been counted at all. I read the rule so that also those free transfers have to be counted. Is this a bug? What do you think?

Then why doesn't the rule say that. I don't know if this is a new rule this season? Different games but in World Cup and EURO fantasies also free transfers have been calculated.

Wiggling around with attempting to get Nani into my team and what changes will need to be made. Got an option around the 5 mil mark. Should I plump for Bannan or Moses (or even Faurling) or is it worth taking a 4 pt hit, swap Ward > Woodgate and riase the extra .1?
Woodgate and Warnock rotate well and I figure Woodgate will get me more clean sheets over the season than Ward anyway.

Ward > Woodgate is a very good transfer especially considering you havw Warnock.
In the end it comes down to who you are getting rid of for Nani for the 4 point hit

Well it's the latter part of an 8 pt hit.
Rooney, Taarabt, Cabaye and Ward > Suarez, HBA, Nani + Woodgate

Hmm, maybe just the 4 points and get on the Banana Boat (no copyright intended) instead of HBA (who still is unlikely to start yet)
Look to Ward > Woodgate later however

As a Moses owner I wouldn't recommend it. He may be able to part the dead sea, but he can't slice through any defences at the moment.

His potential fades with each game.

Three tough games in September Jonty, He's already gone down so I shall give him 2 more weeks to the Bolton game, easy change then if he's still not performing.

for the season jones is 35 out of 49 for duels which is impressive considering against chelsea it was something crazy like 3 out of 11 which shows just how good torres was that day

who is the best defensive player for 4.5?

i think it would be either woodgate or brown. brown is obviously the safer choice, but stoke have better defense, but i'm not sure. what do you guys think?

Woodgate as long as you know he'll start and play only at the Britannia. Otherwise, Brown.

Woodgate is nailed on for PL games, barring injury.
Brown, however, rotates perfectly with Newcastle defenders (assuming you have one)
If you have a Villa defender then go Woodgate.
        If not, toss a coin

brown: probably sunderlands best player so more chance of baps

woodgate: on a better team defensively but very injury prone, and putting everything into europa league

somewhat equal goal threat i reckon
