As domestic matters pause for the international break, our post-Gameweek regular takes a look at a Fantasy favourite refusing to go quietly and an injury quandary for another heavy-hitter. Elsewhere, the Cottagers find their spark at last to provide plenty mid-price potential, as Martin Jol’s strikers cut loose to destroy the hapless hoops…

The Player

Subbed at half time against Man United, benched for the following home game with Swansea, many had written off Frank Lampard’s Fantasy potential. Sunday’s game at the Reebok, though, served a timely reminder of his capabilities; a hat-trick and the three bonus points produced a twenty point haul and in just one game, Lampard more than doubled his Fantasy Premier League (FPL) total for the season.

Sitting on 42 points, he’s the fourth-top scoring midfielder, only 6 points behind David Silva and Nani, despite both starting every game so far this term. In terms of points per game, only one midfielder –Ashley Young- betters his 7.0, with 7.5 in comparison; all this without a penalty at Bolton, too.

What’s frustrating for Fantasy managers is that while Lampard proved he is still more than capable of producing the goods when given the game time, he’s no longer an automatic first-choice selection in the Chelsea first XI. Andre Villas-Boas’ need for more dynamism in the Chelsea central area will see him rest Lampard from time to time in order to maintain a freshness- regardless of the eye-catching display, it’ll take a brave Fantasy manager to run the risk of a 11.6 bench-warmer.

The Team

Winless after six league games under Martin Jol, it took a visit from their nearest rivals to wake Fulham from their top-flight slumber. While the Cottagers have prospered in Europe, they’ve been domestically woeful, with just four points to their name prior to QPR’s arrival at the Cottage on Sunday.

An incredible six-goal triumph saw four Fulham players return double figure Fantasy hauls, with 5.1 Andrew Johnson –in his first start since gameweek 2- leading the way with 20 to his name after a brilliant hat-trick. Danny Murphy and Clint Dempsey both found the net and the Fulham defence also shone, showing a certain resolve to record their second clean sheet on the spin.

Bobby Zamora, once again, demonstrated just how key a figure he is to this Fulham side. Having missed out last week through illness, Zamora returned to the starting XI and scored for the third appearance in a row. Add an assist and 2 bonus points and Zamora has averaged 8.8 FPL points per appearance- the second best tally this season. Only Wayne Rooney has returned more points per game than the 6.7 priced-forward.

The Talking Point

With so much doubt over Wayne Rooney’s availability for the Norwich game, many Fantasy managers had made their minds up early and sold on. As many as 154K shipped Rooney out, with Sergio Aguero the main target, brought in by 135K as a result of a trip to Blackburn.

Twenty-six minutes in, though, and Aguero was limping out of the Ewood Park proceedings, with a groin problem ending his Gameweek on 1 point. Samir Nasri stepped off the bench and transformed the game, grabbing a goal and two assists as City heaped further misery on Steve Kean- the Frenchman, meanwhile, bagged 17 Fantasy points for just over an hour’s work.

With Rooney now recovered, Aguero has joined up with the Argentina squad and will be monitored ahead of games against Chile and Venezuela. Once again, Fantasy managers are left in a quandary over a big-money forward, though with a fortnight before the gameweek eight clash with Aston Villa, time is on their side this time.

Should Aguero fail to make it, Roberto Mancini can at least turn to Edin Dzeko and Mario Balotelli- at 8.6 and 8.5 respectively, they’d be potential bargains if the prognosis proves downbeat, given City’s average of more than three goals per game and- thanks to Carlos Tevez- little other striking alternatives.

I'm thinking Ward, Jarvis, Aguero down

Ramsay, Mata, Silva, Best & Nani up before the internationals

bound to be a few injuries which means you can swop out the injured and ride the wave of new entrants.

Dont lose that team. Its not bad. You never know when your team will flip and turn into a total injuryed squad.

Downing Eagles and moses are what you need to change.

Komnay and Bosingwa will cover you for another week.

        Forwards are fine.

With Young and Dzeko possibly on the hitlist (already have Ag, Nani and Roo - Norwich pummelling didn't materialise frustratingly), I'm possibly looking at alternatives. Option C would have to be executed tonight due to price hikes. A and B would be piecemeal as I only have 1FT.

    A. Ramsey + Suarez 3.1 cash
    v
    B. Silva + Sturridge 2.3 cash
    v
    C. Silva + Suarez + -8 points + Bos would have to become Enrique .1 cash

B fo so. Would love to have Sturridge or Agbonlahor and Silva or Nasri is a must. If you only have one FT though and you have NAsri already, I'd keep Yound and just to Dzeko-Sturridge or Agbonlahor

Saving my transfer for now. Sinclair seems like the best choice, maybe SWP.. Sinc, in better form swp fixture.. Thanks for helping me narrow things down.

Boring international brake so I will share my thoughts on my team. Having 2 frees and the team is:

    Given
    Simpson, Saylor, Bos,
    Young, Silva, Walcott, Brunt
    Rooney, Dzeko, Suarez.
    subs: Dyer, Naylor, Briggs, Vorm

Possible 3 transfers with a hit or only 2 free. The players in bold I am considering selling. Sturridge is almost definitely coming for Dzeko. He plays for my team, has the name and its a bargain. I can't not bring him hahaha 😉

    Transfer targets:
    - Ramsey this week, DVD, Petrov next in mid
    - Schawcross in defense for a hit, I will play him in lot of next games when new has bad fixtures or I could gamble doubling on New defense against Tot
    - Attack targets: Sturidge and RVP

Please pick 3 players to buy and 3 peoples to sell:

Cheers, sorry for the long post maybe

Okay guys, let's all be honest with each other....Do we really expect Liverpool to do well even in their favorable run of fixtures coming up before ManU and Chelskie?? They're always so up and down, like a little more matured version of Arsenal this season. I'm sure Suarez has great potential to score a few goals, but as far as midfield and defensive coverage...is Enrique even worth betting on?? For gameweeks 9-11? My gut tells me...not. Thoughts?

The master plan is TOP SECRET but involves SWP -> Ramsey (leaving me with both Arteta & Rams for one good Arse week), Roon -> Suarez for that 3 game run, Arteta -> Nani/VdV. Damn... there goes the secracy 😉

I've already got Arteta but will downgrade/upgrade to Ramsey, but will also have both for next week (injuries allowing). I have Ade but doing Roon to Suarez allows me to either punt on selling Arteta to VDV or Nani (without Nani I have no Man U coverage)...if any of that makes sense!

Yeah it makes sense. I'm thinking of getting VDV too for Silva, as i already have Aguero and then losing Ade after GW 8 to Suarez. Sound sensible?

Don't think i can afford Nani, even though he's in irresistible form. You're not part of the Sturridge bandwagon are you?

I'd prefer to loose Aguero for Suarez and keep Silva & Ade, if only to keep the cash in my team (assuming you had Silve from the start). VdV seems like a big risk at the mo due to fitness but time will tell on that one. The only Chels I have is Bos. It may hurt me but experience has taught me that buying a player for only 3 gws isn't a good idea.

Yeah i have Rooney aswell as Aguero. Obviously i'd rather lose Aguero though, as i have Silva as a fall back. Yep i've had him from the start. Agree on VDV, never seems to complete 90 minutes these days, but if i get rid of Ade then some spurs cover will be needed with their good run of fixtures. Either way, Suarez is a must imo for weeks 9-11. Hopefully people sell him, so he becomes a bigger differential for us. Yeah i agree.

Only reason i'd get sturridge now, would be to make some profit. Those 3 striker spots are so precious, and it feels a waste to lose one, on somebody that's a rotation risk, and doesnt have great fixtures.

I totally agree. I have RVP, ADE & Roon up top and will sell Roon for Suarez. Surely Aguero to Suarez makes more sense for you taking into account Totty's fixtures and the fact you have Silva? I'd keep Ade but then I look at my ranking compared to yours...

Sturridge would be nice but I have other fish to fry and agree on his risk

Yeah, cheers 4vets. Reckon you're right on Aguero. If we get early confirmation that he's likely to be rested for Villa, then he's getting the chop. I bought him from the start too, so can afford a 0.1 drop. Just hope the Suarez 0.1 rise doesn't happen before that.

                    Cheers 4vets 🙂

Just potential I guess, no guarantees anywhere. But Norwich & Swans in Anfield in 9 and 11, if Liverpool do well, Suarez should return some points. Potential, thas'all.

I was playing Sunday League a couple of seasons ago and one of the opposition had an Eduardo-type break. We agreed a draw, everyone was too shaken up to carry on.
