[sbu_large_image] Key Battle

This weekend’s key encounters highlight Nani’s quest to rid himself of the Anfield ghosts following last season’s gory cameo in the 3-1 setback. Elsewhere, Theo Walcott’s free-running will surely give Steve Bruce food for thought, while Neil Warnock will be hoping Adel Taarabt can help QPR drive a bus through the Blackburn back four.

Nani vs Jose Enrique

Two players in strong form for their respective sides will likely face off in a key head to head at Anfield. While all the talk will be of Wayne Rooney going into Saturday’s early kick-off, Nani is the man in form for Alex Ferguson’s side and he, along with City’s David Silva, has emerged as the consistent Fantasy midfield performer.

In Jose Enrique, Kenny Dalglish has a bull of a left-back fully equipped to deal with Nani’s pace and direct running – whether he will be disciplined enough to curb his own attacking instincts to do so is another matter. Nani will go all out to make an impact following the events of last season’s fixture and his battle with the Spaniard is surely set to be a highlight and a key confrontation.

Theo Walcott vs Kieran Richardson

The Arsenal flyer is a potentially tricky customer or any full-back, although consistency from Walcott is always a concern and frustration for Arsene Wenger. On Sunday however, Wenger will once again be looking to Walcott to terrorise his full-back, particularly when that player is likely to be Kieran Richardson.

Although a competent stand-in at left-back, Wenger will surely look to Walcott to get at him and undo a likely rearguard action from Steve Bruce’s team. With Nicklas Bendtner unavailable to Bruce, we’re expecting to see a 4-5-1 – despite talk of Sunderland “getting at” Arsenal from the off. That will likely mean very little space for Arsenal’s midfield, making the width offered by Walcott, Gervinho and perhaps Andrei Arshavin, all the more critical. Our money is on Walcott being a significant figure for the Gunners and a major worry for Bruce.

Adel Taarabt vs Michel Salgado

Neither of these players are certain to take the pitch on Sunday – while Taarabt is embroiled in an off-field dispute following his bus stop capers during the Craven Cottage massacre, Salgado is struggling for fitness and may miss out at Loftus Road.

If the Rovers man is fit and these two do come up in opposition on the flank, there’s every chance that this could be a worrying area for Steve Kean and his Blackburn side. Taarabt has been employed on the left by Neil Warnock in recent matches and he will surely fancy the Moroccan’s trickery to cause all kinds of problems for the ageing Rovers full-back. Salgado is known to like a challenge, while Taarabt is expert at drawing the tackle and will surely be looking to find the penalty box before doing so. Expect teasing, taunting, an early bone-shaker from Salgado, followed by a good few penalty shouts from the Rangers faithful.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

      I think a Nani win by a small margin (but I fancy enrique may do some damage down the left too), a daw V Walcott/Richardson, and a Taraabt victory.

      Agree wholeheartedly Johnny. It's thinking outside of the box when everyone (including myself) focuses way too much on form and fixtures. The Key Battles always throws up a few original selections.

      Another great article Mark.

        hmm.. just read the team news that Orr will be benched. Ok so it's between Simpson/Enrique.

        Would also need to transfer Orr out for a 4.0 defender although now Orr's at 3.9 🙁

          If I had your team, I would downgrade RVP to Adebayor next week and then spend the remaining funds to improve the midfield and 3rd striker.

    I'd say Bale v Simpson is a key battle, Bale is on fire, showed glimpses against Arsenal and did the business for Wales (twice). If Adebayor is out, they might look to him to unlock Toons defence.

    Worth making any changes here?

    Vorm (Given)

    Bosingwa, Enrique, Simpson (DeLaet / Gabbidon)

    Silva, Arteta, Taraabt, Sinclair (Moses)

    RVP(c), Rooney, Suarez

    1 FT.

    Thinking of improving either DeLaet or Gabbidon to an alternative playing 4.0 defender.

          cheers for the link...just watched it. So it looks certain that a couple of the players who played two international games will be rested...he referred to dropping whomever was most tired. Silva had a relatively easy game against the Scots in comparison to Nasri who had a particularly tough game against Bosnia. Couple this with the general consensus of Silva being integral to City's success and IMO Silva will start, Nasri will be rested, with Aguero on the bench, coming on for the last 30 mins...

    K...so I have been thinking that with Aguero, ADE and Brunt all doubts I should shift out at least two of them. If I keep Aguero he will drop in price but with his profile he will surely rise again. Brunt will drop but the rise may take longer (if at all). Adebayor is a tricky one for me...could drop and could rise quickly later...so he's 50/50 for me.

    Am I right in thinking to leave Adebayor, sell Aguero for RVP (with Aguero dropping another 0.1 I could try buy him again before his rise and make that 0.1 on the purchase) and finally sell Brunt for Petrov.

    I may choose to sell SWP next week so could again do a deal by getting Burnt back in (as an option) at 0.1 cheaper...

    It's a tricky scenario and hope you guys can follow...but what do you think? Am I thinking straight?

    Afternoon lads. Haven't looked at my team in 2 weeks, so I need to get it sorted asap really. I've got this at the moment:

    Vorm
    Simpson Bosingwa Kompany
    Sinclair Silva(v) Nani SWP
    Adebayor Suarez Aguero(c)

    Subs: Given Moses Brown Senderos

    1 free transfer, £0.1m in bank

    Thoughts about what I could do?

        Yeah WC.

        Naylor is there for price really. Not ideal that Hoolahan is playing against him this week but it gets better over the next couple weeks. Hoolahan is a big punt but with Holt not getting a regular starting place that puts Hoolahan on penalties. I always seem to get rewarded by the penalty takers as well

    selling adebayor is a bad idea in my opinon. He's at newcastle (who have been tight at home) and he might not play... But then he's at blackburn (Who give goals away with every half time pie) and then has a niiice home game against QPR.

    If he's only a slight doubt now he'll be nailed on for qpr and blackburn

    PLUS most people will be losing money by selling him (I don't know about anyone else but I bought him before his first price rise)

        The reports have come purely from Mancini's press conference, on watching the conference he's a bit coy about it all, even suggestin the possibility of Aguero playing.

          Probably just keeping this cards close to his chest, to keep Aston Villa guessing. Probably why he started talking about resting players. Can't see them risking him when they have a crucial game in midweek.

      he might not play, but I assume you have a fit substitute in which case hold on to him because before you know it he's got blackburn and qpr, which makes me drool. He'll most probably be my captain v qpr

      Current team:

      Given,Ruddy,
      Bosingwa,Lescott,Simpson,Brown,De Laet,
      Nani,Silva,Sinclair,Moses,Surman,
      Rooney,Suarez,Dzeko.(0.6 in bank,1 freebie)

      Which transfer strategy is the best?:

      A) GW 8: De Laet->Woodgate
      GW 9: Dzeko->Ba/Sturridge
      GW 10: Suarez->Agüero.

      B) GW 9: Dzeko->Ba, Surman->Bannan
      GW 10: Suarez->Agüero

      C) GW 9: Dzeko->A Johnson, Surman->Ramsey
      GW 10: Suarez->Agüero

      D) GW 9: Dzeko->LaWhore
      GW 10: Suarez->Agüero and save the other freebie(0.0 in bank).

      Thoughts?Also,if I go for A would it be better to get Naylor instead of Woodgate since I don't have Vorm?Thanks.
