The EA Sports PPI statistics are now available and the Fantasy Premier League bonus points have now been added to the game. Here’s a game by game breakdown of how this map out for gameweek eight…

Liverpool 1 Man United 1
Gerrard 3, Welbeck 2, Hernandez 1

Few surprises here – we predicted the 2 for Javier Hernandez but won’t begrudge Danny Welbeck a single bonus point for his display and assist on United’s equaliser. Steven Gerrard’s maximum was a foregone conclusion here given his goal and contribution to the Liverpool display.

Chelsea 3 Everton 1
Terry 3, Sturridge 2, Lampard 1

John Terry, always a strong scorer in the EA PPI, not surprisingly comes out on top, having also got on the scoresheet in the 3-1 win. As we predicted, Daniel Sturridge and Frank Lampard also reaped reward for their goal and assist contributions respectively.

Wigan 1 Bolton 3
Eagles 3, K Davies 2, Diame 1

Chris Eagles was our top ICT Index performer of the week and was also top of the EA PPI rankings. Three bonus points will follow for the Bolton man but, while we predicted returns for Nigel Reo-Coker and David Ngog, it was Kevin Davies (despite his penalty miss) and Wigan’s Mohamed Diame who earned higher PPI totals.

QPR 1 Blackburn 1
Samba 3, Helguson 2, Lowe 1

Although honours were even at Loftus Road, our prediction based on our ICT figures fared well, with Blackburn’s Chris Samba picking up a strong EA PPI total – the third highest in the gameweek. QPR’s scorer Heidar Helguson ranked second in this match, with Blackburn’s Jason Lowe set for a single bonus point for his PPI tally.

Man City 4 Aston Villa 1
Balotelli 3, Johnson 2, Kompany 1

Mario Balotelli earned the top PPI total in this match for his acrobatic opener, with Adam Johnson’s goal and assist earning the winger number two spot. Vincent Kompany demonstrated his newfound threat from set-pieces by claiming a goal- enough to earn him the single bonus point.

Norwich City 3 Swansea 1
Pilkington 3, Martin 2, Barnett 1

With a brace of goals, Anthony Pilkington was amongst the top ICT and EA PPI performers this weekend and it’s no surprise to see him claim the three bonus from this one. We predicted Russell Martin for a strong PPI, but didn’t see Leon Barnett’s single bonus point coming – he continues to score heavily in EA PPI terms and remains a bonus darling as a result. He just edged out our prediction for the remaining bonus – Bradley Johnson.

Stoke 2 Fulham 0
Walters 3, Delap 2, Etherington 1

As expected, Jon Walters collected the top EA PPI score from this home win, with Rory Delap ranking second and Matt Etherington, with two assists, coming in third. Andy Wilkinson was Stoke’s top defensive performer, sharing a PPI score with both Jermaine Pennant and Asmir Begovic.

West Brom 2 Wolves 0
Brunt 3, Foster & Reid 2

Chris Brunt picks up his first bonus points of the season with a top ranking EA PPI display in the local derby victory for the Baggies. Ben Foster was the top rated keeper in both the ICT Index and EA PPI rankings and, subsequently, he fetched the two bonus here; while we predicted Peter Odemwingie for the single bonus, it turns out that Steven Reid collected an identical PPI to Foster and will share two bonus points. Billy Jones came in next on the PPI rankings but was denied a bonus by that share.

Arsenal 2 Sunderland 1
Van Persie 3, Koscielny 2, Larsson 1

Robin Van Persie was amongst the top five PPI performers in the gameweek and dominated this match to collect the inevitable maximum bonus. Few would have seen Laurent Koscielny’s PPI score of 22 coming however; that’s going to earn him two bonus points with Sunderland’s scorer, Seb Larsson, picking up a single bonus as expected.

Newcastle 2 Tottenham 2
Ba & Taylor & Van der Vaart 3

We’ve a share at the top of the PPI rankings in this match with both Demba Ba and Rafael Van der Vaart set to earn 3 bonus points for their 22 point totals. Jonas Gutierrez has to make do with a single bonus for his display then, although the PPI scores from this match are still under review with the assist for Shola Ameobi’s goal seemingly awarded to Yohan Cabaye rather than Ryan Taylor.

*Edit* As indicated, this match was reviewed and, with the award of the assist to Ryan Taylor, he tied with Ba and Van der Vaart at the top of the PPI. The three bonus points were therefore shared between all three players.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

If R. Taylor gets BPs for that assist yesterday think of how many points Baines will get if he starts getting goals and assists like last year. Its a big if though.

There is absolutely no room for him in my team though.
Im not downgrading any of my midfielders or forwards, and Bosingwa, Enrique and Kompany are going just fine and I don't have to re-arrange my team to get them in.

How's Baines going to get assists when Everton can barely score, and how's he going to get goals when they're too busy letting them in? Still seems like an overpriced flop to me. The 3.2 he costs over R Taylor could upgrade both a MID and a FWD. Sure, he had a great season last year. So did Tevez.

Does anyone really know how the PPI system works? Do shots off target really lose you points? I have seen no analysis of the PPI system apart from one article before this season, maybe it was on FISO, that claimed it wouldn't make much difference and really just adds more points for bonuses and goals. Which has been pretty true so far.

    Hi guys,

Any advice on changes for GW9:

    Begovic (Vorm)
Simpson Bosingwa Brown (N Taylor Gabbidon)
Silva Ramsey Nani SWP (N Dyer)
    Sturridge RVP Rooney

I have £1.5m in the bank. Thinking of playing it safe and doing Brown to Enrique but tempted to take a risk and ditch Rooney > Suarez and then do SWP > VDV for 4 point hit.

Is it stupid getting rid of Rooney? Suarez and VDV looks better than Rooney SWP for next 3 weeks though.

Silva captain. Him coming on literally cost me 12 points. Grrr. Ended the week with around 33 points. Disgusting.

Lets bring on GW9, and inevitably more pain.

I for one absolutely hate the new bonus system. It seems to consistently miss the mark, whereas at least with the subjective bonus awards I was happy sometimes and upset at others.

Hi gents, Here is my squad which got a measly 24pts this GW.

    Given Vorm
    Hutton Simpson S.Taylor Bosingwa Enrique
    Nani Silva Barton Petrov Dyer
    Rooney Adebayor Aguero

Is there any changes I should make?
2 Freebies and 0.1 in the bank.

The team isn't bad I think you just got unlucky with dropped players, fixtures and form this week. Don't change too much. Personally I would shift Barton out for Sinclair or Walters and rotate them around their bad fixtures.

Bolton have good fixtures coming up I think, if there was a time to keep him it would be now. The only alternatives I think are Gutierrez (if you can squeeze another 0.1 from somewhere) or if you're really brave Pilkington... lol.

well, u have two free transfers...why not use 1 of them and do aguero>suarez and then get aguero back next week when u will have 2 freebies again. no risk involved as u dont have to take a hit.

RVP for Aguero. I did the straight swap this week and it's paid off handsomely. Arsenal's run of opponents will continue to be kind and they looked a lot sharper at the front against Sunderland.
RVP is the one who will get the goals, Aguero will continue to be a rotation risk.

I have to say that I'm very content with my team at the moment. Having used my WC and taken a few hits, I feel that I have a very good core of players, in my squad now. I do own De Laet but he's not a pressing problem to deal with, so besides that, I'm very happy with my team. I know things change quickly in FPL, but is anybody else really happy with the way their squads are shaping up?

Haha, yeah I know the feeling. It's just that after every GW is played, I always feel that I need to change something, but I don't feel that way after this GW. I'm a relative noob at FPL, with just one season under my belt, so maybe I'm maturing, FPL-wise, and becoming less kneejerky 😉

Happy with mine but Saurez is starting to niggle, as is Huth. Faith in Sinclair and sticking with RVP is starting to look justified though.

Cheers. Yeah, it does seem a steep learning curve at first and I made a LOT of mistakes last season, like blowing about 120 points in hits *slaps head*

I guess having this site and learning off other peoples mistakes has helped me not fall into certain FPL traps, so I'm thankful for that. Cheers FFS!

I'm hardly trailblazing this season but I'm making steady progress up the rankings from a poor start. I feel I have a good team nucleus now and I'm starting to get in a few differentials in there to make my team stand out.

I'm on my sixth season, best 4000, worst last year 80k.

Best advice I'd give anyone is never take big points hits, the odd four pointer can be made up, but when you get into 8-12 territory it never works. Try to keep two transfers in the bag, this obviously requires restraint for a couple of weeks but when you have two transfers to play with at the start of every week you can use one and know that you've got two for next week still if disasters occur that you can't forsee like injuries/red cards etc. Oh and don't pick Kolarov. Or Moses.

I am happy with my team, and yet it didnt deliver last week. Quite up and down really, I got around 70 last week and now 33 this week. Silva coming on for 1 point cost me 12 points though so I consider myself a tad unlucky, especially when the game was wrapped up and there was no need to bring him on.

      Vorm Ruddy
Bosingwa Richards Enrique R.Taylor De Laet

Yeah Heitinger isn't a good FPL prospect and Moses has been this years Boselli 😉 In fairness, Moses has looked good when I watched him play but he's in an awful team who can't finish off moves to save their lives.

Did Walters actually do much in this game apart from a tap in goal? Likewise, should Balotelli get MOTM over Johnson who was at the heart of all City's attacks? And Adebayor's 2nd assist bounced off his leg. They are a joke.

    Adebeyor or Sturridge?

    Ade (bla,QPR,ful,AVL,wba,BOL)
    Studge (,qpr,ARS,bla,LIV,WOL,new)

Ade has better fixtures, less prone to rotation but expensive as a third striker. Epi over the last 4 GWs favours Ade.

Studge not bad but not as good fixtures, rotation risk(?) but very cheap as a 3rd.

When will we know about Suarez so I can rule him in or out of my next 3 GW thinking?

Depends on whether you could use the extra money elsewhere in your team.

I like Sturridge at his bargain price. Chelsea's front three looks to be Torres/Mata/Sturridge when all fit. Malouda will be off in Jan IMO, Drogba only comes in to replace Torres and Anelka seems out of favor with AVB. Oh and Kalou is rubbish.
