Our look at some of the crucial head-to-heads focuses on the attempts of Arsenal’s new centre-half to tame Peter Crouch as Stoke visit the Emirates. Elsewehere, Gareth Bale will fancy his chances against a makeshift full-back and Martin Petrov will be hoping to get the better of John O’Shea in a crucial Reebok showdown near the foot of the table.

Per Mertesacker vs Peter Crouch

Arsenal’s recent home league record of just 1 goal conceded in the last three games at the Emirates suggests a definite defensive improvement but the visit of Stoke will put this theory to the test. The Gunners know what to expect on Sunday afternoon- an aerial bombardment is on the cards, as Matthew Etherington and –if fit- Jermaine Pennant deliver crosses aplenty from out wide as the Potters look to find Peter Crouch with high balls into the box.

In Per Mertesacker, the Gunners may have the perfect deterrent. While Laurent Koscielny will be expected to deal with Jonathan Walters, the big German’s height and presence in the heart of the home side’s back-four could well be the perfect weapon to nullify Crouch’s aerial presence. Stoke have scored just two goals on their travels to date and whether this record is extended or bettered could well rest on the duel between the two giants.

Gareth Bale vs Jason Lowe

While his season has yet to really kick off, Bale’s trickery has caused untold problems for opposing right-backs so far this season. Recent games against Liverpool and Wigan have seen both Martin Skrtel and Steve Gohouri dismissed due to their inability to cope with the Welshman’s trickery. Spurs arrive at beleaguered Blackburn in strong form and with Michel Salgado ruled out today with a hamstring problem, Jason Lowe is expected drop back from midfield and go head to head with Bale instead.

Blackburn look up against it. Steve Kean’s side have conceded 7 goals in their last two Ewood Park encounters and while there’s a chance Bale may even be fielded on the right wing, Harry Redknapp could look to utilise his speed on his favoured left side against Lowe’s inexperience in the full-back position.

Martin Petrov vs John O’Shea

With both sides just one point off the bottom, Bolton’s Reebok clash with Sunderland is crucial this Saturday. Neither have made the most impressive start to the new campaign, with just one win apiece in the last six games. The hosts will be hoping they’ve turned the corner, after last week’s win at Wigan stopped a run of six straight defeats and Owen Coyle will be looking for some wing magic from Martin Petrov to prove decisive- it’ll be up to John O’Shea to put the brakes on the Bulgarian.

The Black Cats produced a spirited performance at the Emirates last week but the 2-1 defeat means Sunderland have conceded 2 goals in four of their last five Premier League games. Petrov has so far proved Bolton’s chief creator and if the Trotters’ revival is to pick up speed, his showdown with O’Shea looks key to bringing home the three points.

ok gents this will be the first time ive asked for advice this season, a little embarrased really as anyone who checks out my scores will see what a complete mare ive had so far this year

    front 8

ben arfa swp nani vdv ramsay
    aguero sturridge potato head

weak link is swp so maybe eagles or petrov or henderson fits nicely for my single transfer

    or

nani/swp for stevie g/eagles fits pretty well

been stung badly with players scoring heavily the week i take them out so far so understandably nervous of gettin rid of nani for a home game,

any thorts muchly appreciated from the greater good 🙁

Need some help guys, have two free transfers this week and was thinking of bring Enrique in for Woodgate, and dropping Arteta for? By bringing in Enrique it means I only have 7.4M for a midfielder, I was looking at Ramires but he is injured. Any ideas of who I should go for? I was thinking Gutierrez this week as Newcastle have Wigan with the hope maybe Ramires comes back within the next week or so.

    Thoughts appreciated.

Rest of team Vorm (Al Habsi),
    Kompany, Bosingwa, Evans, Enrique (Simpson)
Bale, Nani, Gutierrez (Moses, Reo Coker)
    Adebayor, Rooney, Augero

I agree, was also considering Henderson, but there is a chance Dalglish might play Carroll up front and drop Kuyt back into midfield. The problem is I have to do two to free up the cash to get Enrique in, only have £0.1 in the bank!

Uncertain whether he is or not yet. If it proves he is, then he is by far the best option - 4.0 for a way into the Stoke defence...

Otherwise, Tierney, Boyata and perhaps Caulker when he is fit...

All the things I've heard this week about the Simpson issue has led me to assume that Santon will start ahead of him, I am really starting to doubt that Simpson will start this weekend. I had the same feeling about Dzeko last weekend although I may be wrong.

I think I'm still gonna start him though just in case and hope he doesn't come on as a sub, which is probably unlikely.

It's likely that I will not do any transfer and play this team.

    Krul
    Bosingwa - Kompany - Simpson
    Nani - Silva - Mata - Moses
    Adebayor - Drogba - RVP
Sub: Vorm, N.Dyer, N.Taylor, De Laet

Do you think if any of these transfers should be done? It's free.

A: Drogba > Suarez .... Drogba in poor form, but he will play against QPR before Torres come back.
B: Nani > VDV .... Two tough games for United vs two easy games for VDV.
C: De Laet > Boyata .... De Laet is out of favor and Boyata seems good attacking threat.
D: Moses > Bannan .... Bannan seems to do better than Moses and Villa have good fixtures.
E: Keep free transfer to next week.

I watched the last two games of Bolton. Boyata scored in a game with Chelsea and won penalty in a game with Wigan. He would get assist if K.Davies didn't miss PK. He was also in box when Bolton won the corner and had a few chances to score..

I looked at that as I need a midfielder for around £7.5, my only thoughts are what if he drops Kuyt back into midfield and plays Carroll up front against Norwich, if Carroll can but his extremely large weight around up front that should free up Suarez to run riot.

Suarez could come back to haunt me, I have Rooney, Adebayor & Augero up front and was thinking one of them to accommodate Suarez!

I don't think its too much of a risk losing Rooney, but I think Adebayor would be better Spurs coverage.

VDV vs Defoe is still up in the Air. Save the 4 point hit as well. Villa West Brom could go anyway.

I think West Brom have kept more clean sheets this season than in the whole of last season, they aren't the whipping boys they used to be.

Right all you knowledgable people, I've got a dilemma,

I need to get rid of Walcott (he's been pants), and I've got enough for a 9.9m midfielder. I've got the usual options Nani, Silva and don't want Bale or Ramsey as I have coverage upfront in Adebayor, RVP & Agbonlahor

I'm thinking Charlie Adam, or Juan Mata, can't decide, Adam has the fixtures, but with Gerrard back he may struggle for assists / goals (or maybe not, he may be assisting Gerrard!!) and Mata might fire one day...

    Any thoughts?

I'd offer chocolate to the best answer, but that would make me look like a pedo! So no prizes I'm afraid.

    Cheers.

I would wait a week to think about it. Other than Stevie G, I wouldnt recommend any of the big guns, especially since you only have 9.9 which means you have to take a hit. Adam is worthless now fantasy wise(not to mention a liability). Juan Mata has averaged a little over 4ppg and that is with a goal and 3 assists. Great player that cant score fantasy points, even when he scores fantasy points. I honestly believe that Walcott has as good a shot as any of those listed this week of scoring points (and Im in the same dilemma by the way), and 1 more week will bring some clarity and the extra trannie to make it all happen.

except for the fact that option 2 costs about 3.0 less so I guess it depends what you do with it. Personally think Nani and Sturridge are must haves and then choose between VDV or Ade.

That depends, do you have any other ManU coverage? I think Sturridge is a must have, hes cheap and the only chelsea attacking coverage you need (not to mention captainable). For tottenham coverage, if you find it necessary, I would prefer VDV as he is on pens. That being said, by gw 11 I think you should have either Nani or Rooney as well in there.

It's a toss really. Both very good options.

RVP is a differential just by owning him (just)... so depends on your current ranking I guess

Does current ranking really matter? Surely the guys who scores most is the one to pick? I've got to choose between RVP, Suarez & Stevvie G. I have no idea right ow.

If between those two go Suarez. RVP is tired, have a sneaky suspicion he may have his time on pitch limited - not to mention stoke brutality and RVP frailty are not a good combo. I expect him be on bench. If Ars arent up by the half by 2 goals, maybee a late come on.

I've got both and have gone with RVP.

Suarez hasn't scored 2 in a game yet (in the prem). RVP is always there or thereabouts when Arsenal score.

He won't be rested, the guy above is chatting *insert 4 letter swear word of choice*

That was my first thought but apart from city ManU has great fixtures ahead and also there is 0.2 I'd lose if I decided to take him back again (and I don't think Rooney will fall). That's why I'm choosing RVP and I'll bring him back probably in 2 gws.

    Nani, Mata, Bale
    Suarez, RVP, Sturridge

I dont want to change my front 3. But looking to get Stevie G or VDV for no hit (2M in the bank).
But who do i ship out?

Nani : 2 goals in community shield against Man city.. if Man utd has to win, it has to come from Nani or Rooney.

Bale looked good in all prv matches, just keeping faith in him

Qpr looks wasted as of now, mata can get some assists here.

Do i really need to make any changes this week?
    VDV or Gerrard?
    who to sell ?

Sounds like you're set on keeping him but I really think VDV is a better Spurs option than Bale. On pens, free kicks, corners, shoots every chance he gets, doesn't like to defend.

Mata averaging 4.1666 ppg even with 1 goal and 3 assists and has never scored over 6 points in any game. Imagine that 5pts for a goal and 3 pts for an assist, 2 pts for playing and yet his ppg is this low. So what if he does get an assist, so what. He will score 5 or 6 points and thats the best you can hope for. Stevie G will get you 6 points with 0 goals and 0 assists. With 1 goal he can potentially get you 11 points. Its an easy choice for me, although I would consider shipping out bale soon as well.
