Arsene Wenger confirms Robin Van Persie will be fit for next weekend. Royston Drenthe admits there’s much much to come from him, now he’s match-fit, while Rafael Van der Vaart reckons his hamstring problems are now behind him. Here’s this morning’s Scribbles, folks:

Arsene Wenger’s post-match press conference comments will be reassuring to Fantasy owners of Robin Van Persie. The Dutchman was, of course, named amongst the substitutes for the game against Stoke and came off the bench to score twice. The Gunners boss commented on his skipper’s omission, saying it was nothing more than a rest:

Muscular tightness. I took nineteen players because I wasn’t even sure to involve him on the team sheet. We made a check and he was medically alright to be on the bench. I looked at the number of games he played and the history he has- you have to be cautious. He played two full games for Holland then he played the whole game against Sunderland- he had to dig deep, he played up front alone against Marseille…

When asked if Van Persie would be fully fit for this weekend’s game with Chelsea, Wenger confirmed:

Yes. He was not injured (against Stoke), it was just tight muscular- he will be fit.

Adel Taarabt still pines for a move to PSG. The Moroccan almost left QPR in the summer after being linked with the big-spending French giants for months but the transfer ultimately failed to materialise. According to Taarabt, this was down to sporting director Leonardo having doubts about his temperament and admits that while the club promised him they’d reassess the situation in the new year, he’s not getting his hopes up.

The Qatar officials told me ‘do another great six months and in January we will be back’. However, I am under no illusion. I know I am not Leonardo’s priority.

Kolo Toure has also thrown his hat into the ring for a move to Paris. The centre-half has struggled for game time at Man City since coming back from a six month ban and, speaking to RMC Sport admitted:

If the name of Paris comes, it will not be like previous years.I would be interested because of the competition there currently is at City. Now if they call me, I would listen to what they say. Given the very good players there are there, it really makes you want to go there, it’s clear.

Shane Long could be sidelined for up to six weeks after a challenge from Alan Hutton forced him out last weekend’s Midlands derby. A scan on his knee revealed the West Brom forward has severe bone bruising and a small bone chip inside the right knee. This would enhance the Fantasy prospects of Somen Tchoyi over the next few gameweeks then, with the Cameroonian a strong favourite to see more game time in a forward role alongside Peter Odemwingie.

Rafael Van der Vaart admits he has sympathy for Jermain Defoe as the two battle for a place alongside Emmanuel Adebayor up front for Tottenham. The Dutchman is clearly winning the tussle, despite a strong start to the domestic season for Defoe, who has scored 3 goals already, just 1 less than last season’s tally. Van der Vaart also spoke of his problematic hamstring, declaring he is completely injury-free right now:

I feel that I am a starting player so I am not worried about starting, but of course I feel sorry for Jermain. I feel also that we can play together, so we will have to see what happens throughout the season…I am now 100 per cent fit. I am playing and I am scoring goals – I can’t do any more than that. Every day I am feeling better. I do not have to manage the injury, now I can do whatever I need to do on the pitch. In the beginning you have to be quite careful and you feel scared a little bit but now I hope it stays like this.

Steve Bruce has set Nicklas Bendtner a target of 15 league goals for Sunderland this season. The big Dane has had an immediate impact since his loan move to Wearside, returning 2 goals, 3 assist and 5 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bonus points in five matches and, wiith a favourable run of fixtures on the horizon, looks set for Fantasy investment. His boss talked up Bendtner’s goalscoring abilities

Nick is a good finisher – a very good finisher – and there’s no reason why he cannot get 15 goals a season. I think Nick has found it difficult because Arsenal play one up front, which is Robin Van Persie, so he has not had the opportunity to play where he wants to play.I think he suffered because he was not playing regularly at Arsenal. I don’t care how good you are or which club you are at, if you do not play regularly it becomes very difficult. He is getting that now…I think there is a lot more to come from Nicklas.

Kenny Dalglish has praised Craig Bellamy after the Welshman grabbed a goal in his first league start for Liverpool since returning to the club. Bellamy was handed a role out wide in the 1-1 draw against Norwich but, while Luis Suarez spurned chance after chance, managed to find the net and his manager has been delighted with his approach:

He has been brilliant. He just loves playing football and wants to play all the time.He would certainly be much happier if he was playing more but he understands the situation maybe more than when he was younger. He will make a contribution for us.

With a goal and two assists in his first league start for Everton, Royston Drenthe underlined his capabilities to David Moyes last Sunday. The Dutchman reckons there’s plenty more to come from him and admits his manager’s training regime has helped him improve his fitness considerably:

Before I started to play, the manager killed me in training. He made me run a lot and now I feel really fit and great. That’s what I wanted – to be sharp. I don’t want not to be fit and then come into a game and not be able to handle the pressure. I feel good now. The fans can expect more.

Aston Villa have appealed the red card handed to Chris Herd on Saturday afternoon against West Brom. The player was dismissed for an alleged stamp on Jonas Olsson but Alex McLeish is confident the ban will be rescinded, after tv replays suggested the linesman got it wrong:

We think we’ve got a good cause to lodge the appeal. He (Cann) made a guess, he’s seen something and guessed that Chris stamped. We’ve spoken through official channels and I’ve got to keep that private but am sure they’ll agree there has been a mistake.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

There are better options that Aguero, both Balotelli and Dzeko are returning good points for less outlay. Rooney is a season keeper. Suarez against Swansea means nothing - look at the Norwich match, the guy can't score/assist in a brothel, though assisting in a brothel may not be that desirable admittedly... :p

I want to get Van Persie next week. Should I get rid of Rooney or Aguero? I have no other United coverage and have Silva. Rooney would be a straight swap. For Aguero I would have to drop Bosingwa and get a defender under 5.

    Given, Ruddy

    Rooney, Suarez, Sturridge

Good team. Maybe in the coming weeks (after Van Persie plays Chelsea this week) downgrade Mata to Ramsey or Walters so you can get enough money to swap Suarez for Van Persie.

    Here’s my team:

    Vorm (Given)

Kompany Enrique N. Taylor (Simpson) (Ward)

    Silva Nani Sinclair Moses (Ramsey)

    Rooney Adebayor Suarez

Call me totally insane but I was thinking of doing:

    Rooney > Balotelli
    Ramsey > VDV

    – I think it’s highly likely Balotelli will start against a poor Wolves side next week. With a crucial champs league game against Villarreal to come, I can see Mancini resting one or two with that in mind. I don’t think the likes of Aguero will play 3 games in 7 days. Mancini will surely deploy two strikers against Wolves and will probably do so again against QPR at Loftus Road the following week, and with Balotelli on fire at the moment, I would consider it poor management him not starting. After the Bayern Munich game, where Mancini played Aguero and Dzeko, and where Bayern dominated, I can see Mancini being more circumspect and starting Aguero as the lone forward v Villarreal.

With the international break two weeks away, and with Aguero involved in 2 crucial world cup quals in South America and Dzeko playing twice for Bosnia against Portugal in the Euro Champs playoffs, I can see Balotelli starting the gameweek 12 match at Eastlands, him not having as tough international schedule. So in short, I think Balotelli will get as much gametime as Aguero, and will get more gametime than Dzeko over the next 3 weeks. Citeh forward + gametime = points. Particularly with their run of fixtures in mind.

    – As for VDV he is a must have at the moment, and I would be loathe to relinquish Nani with United’s decent run of fixtures on the horizon. Rooney, on the otherhand, is just not at it at the moment. He does this frequently: goes on a great run of form, then out of nowhere doesn’t score for 6 weeks. Plus he seems to be playing in a more withdrawn role when paired with Chicarito. Although I think Ramsey is a good option, he does have a tough fixture this week that I wasn’t considering playing him in, and I was thinking of upgrading Suarez after the Swansea home game gameweek 11, to RVP, Rooney, Torres bracket, and can easily get Ramsey in at a later time to facilitate this move.

Would really appreciate your thoughts on the above?

Dzeko was dropped after the international break where he played 180 mins for Bosnia in two crucial qualification matches with Bosnia. That gameweek - gameweek 4 at home to Wigan - was immediately prior to the Bayern Munich away match where Mancini had clearly planned to play him up top with Aguero. The same can't be said for Balotelli. Dzeko is about to play Portugal in a 2 leg playoff before gameweek 12. It's a lottery but with Aguero pencilled in for the champions league I think Balotelli will see plenty of minutes over the next 3 weeks

Team is very like mind except i have vdv and rvp instead of nani and rooney. Like ur idea about Balotelli, 2.7 cheaper than aguero, likely to start, and just as likely to get points. VDV needed deffo at the mo, nani mightnt even start at a tough everton at home fixture, ramsy is also a good option especially with their fixtures after che, might also suggest walters, oop plus pen taker who gets 90 every wk and nice fixtures, have a notion of also gettin gervinho, i know he plays as a wide man in a front three but arsenal are improving and he looked unreal on Sun against a tight stoke defence...

I'm not a big fan of Gervinho. I think he looks a little wasteful in front of goal. Ramsey is a good option but I would rather have Sinclair at home against a porous Bolton defence. I will get Ramsey back at some point. Walters is definately a good option but got stung by having him last year which makes me a little more cautious this time around - plus rotation around the Europa league is a concern

They all rotation risk, tho aquero and balotelli more save. If you prepared to accept the roataion risk then go for it. Would try to avoid losing ramsey tho especially when you got no other arsenal cover and might even consdier playing against chelsea, they are not exactly tight at the back.

You do know that there are only two teams who have conceded less goals this season than Chelsea, right? Aside from an on-fire United team, none have managed to put more than a goal past them. This isn't Bolton or Blackburn we're talking about here. I wouldn't be overly confident in Ramsey's ability to get points this week.

Well, when I kept Rooney for those fixtures I was of the opinion that they were "unbeatable" or at least "fixture proof".

        Turns out theya rent.

Also, Ill get Nani in for their run of easier fixtures, I cant have my 12.4m striker playing midfield, or even LB, when his team are in the dumps.

Moreover, if I captain Aguero this weekend and it pays off, getting Rooney back the following week will have made the move quite worthwhile.

I probably think all the Silva owners would have to live up to his absence in the next game as apart of the squad rotation.I think Milner,Silva,Barry and Adam Johnson will all play and there will be no Silva lining for his owners.

PS: I have Silva in my squad and I have used up my one optional transfer available this GW.

Hmm over-priced consideration of the week (well actually not of this week) - Vidic
Good goal scorer for a defender, 10 decent fixtures on the trot and you've got to imagine Fergie will tighten them up at the back.

Unless you want to downgrade RVP I don't think it can be done, and I wouldn't advocate that. Just trade him in for Nani - Nani is a slight rotation threat this week anyway - and review it next week when United play Sunderland at Old Trafford

Yeesh, such a wealth of attacking talent to choose from these next few weeks. VDV, Ade, Nani, Rooney, Silva, Aguero, RVP, Suarez, Sturridge and to a lesser extent Young, Balotelli, Dzeko, Nasri Mata....

I have a very cheap defence, and a half decent team value but this is HARD.

I'm on the RVP, Silva, Ade, VDV and Suarez wagons at the moment. Desperately need to get some United cover in after the Everton game, but who on earth for? Suarez is the obvious choice but that means waiting until after the SWA game, by which point United could have run riot against Sunderland and I could have lost further ground on those bloody Rooney captainers when Suarez gets his inevitable 2 pointer.

    Hmmmmmm.

Fining referees is nonsense it would make them afraid to make calls - there's always doubt and they have one viewing and to deal with players play acting.

I know, but he didn't consult the lineman (i don;t believe). I know it's an obvious solution but refereeing decisions have such a bearing on games especially 'big' games these days. It's not a perfect world or game but it goes back to argument of video technology, surely the 4th ref at the side of the park could help in some circumstances.

    Who to captain this week? Proving the hardest of weeks to decide;
    RVP (che)
    Silva (WOL)
    VDV (QPR)
    Rooney (eve)

I'm leaning towards VDV (based on fixture) or RVP (based on form)...what do you think?

RVP tough fixture and although Chelsea have not been keeping clean sheets, they haven't exactly been poor defensively. Plus there will be a backlash after the QPR defeat.

      Silva is a rotation threat
Rooney is not at it and will have plenty od stick to endure at Goodison

Thanks folks, good input. VDV it is; I think we could see a Rooney backlash at Everton but, at most, that'll be the one goal as I can't see it being an open, high scoring game. Good point about Chelsea being up for it; interesting to see how Terry reacts and whether he can keep RVP in his pocket...
