A quick-fire Scribbles on a busy afternoon sees Andy Carroll looking for more Liverpool starts, with his fitness on the up. Kenny Dalglish awaits news on his injured skipper’s ankle, Robin Van Persie talks goals and Steve Bruce hints at a change of formation….

Andy Carroll’s goal at the Hawthorns on Saturday evening means the Liverpool forward has scored and picked up maximum bonus points in each of his last two away games. The big-money buy from Newcastle admits he’s been doing a little extra in training in order to keep his place in the first-team and admitted he’s perhaps not been at the level expected:

I have been working hard to get my place and I think I have earned it. I played well last week and getting a goal as well this weekend was even better. It is disappointing when you are sitting on the bench but it only makes you work harder the next day in training to get your place back. I am working hard in training every day to get my fitness up. I can only say I am working my hardest to get back the way I was. I just need to keep getting my name on the starting sheet every week and see what happens from there.

Robin Van Persie’s extraordinary run of form shows no sign of letting up and, with a favourable run of fixtures on the horizon for a number of gameweeks, the Dutchman seems set to clock up the Fantasy points at an alarming rate. Speaking yesterday, the Arsenal skipper admitted he feels unstoppable right now:

I feel I can score every time I go out on to the pitch. For me it’s just the best feeling to have. It doesn’t really matter against who we play, we always create chances so that means I always have a go. Then it’s up to me to score. I’ll miss chances, but I’ll score them as well. To have that feeling is one of the best things in life.

Sunderland’s first-choice keeper Simone Mignolet has this morning undergone surgery on the broken nose that forced him from the field in Saturday’s home draw with Aston Villa. The Belgian suffered the injury after colliding with Emile Heskey and the club confirmed he will undergo further tests to establish the expected length of absence- Kieren Westwood looks set for a spell between the sticks for the Black Cats in the meantime.

Bruce suffered more defensive woes after John O’Shea suffered a hamstring injury in the Villa game. According to the Black Cats boss, it’s a recurrence of the same problem that plagued the Irishman in pre-season and looks almost certain to keep him out of Saturday’s visit to old club Man United, with Phil Bardsley a ready-made replacement.

Further news from the Stadium of Light concerns Sunderland’s recent change of formation. The Black Cats have moved to a 4-4-2 shape in recent games but Bruce warned he may alter the formation once again, with Connor Wickham looking like the one to drop out, going by Bruce’s comments:

Against Villa we can play two strikers and score two goals but in the game itself and the second half in particular Villa caused us all sorts of problems because they had that extra man in midfield. They had more of the ball, even though they haven’t done a lot with it. It denies us time on the ball and leads to frustration in the crowd. Connor can expect a decent run in the team and when we have unleashed him it has been at the right time. He is far better now than four months ago. Connor is physically a big, strong boy, but he is a boy and we have to protect him. There will be a time when he runs out of juice and at that stage he will have to come out but we are very, very pleased with him at the moment.

Liverpool are anxiously awaiting news on Steven Gerrard’s ankle problem after reports suggest an extended lay-off could possibly be on the cards. Having only just returned from a long-term groin problem, the skipper had started the homes games with Man United and Norwich before picking up what initially seemed an innocuous cut to his ankle in training ahead of the game at West Brom. The injury deteriorated significantly and, despite having the ankle drained, Gerrard awaits further prognosis on the problem.

Roberto Martinez has been scathing in his assessment of Fulham’s tackling after Momo Diame lasted just twelve minutes in Saturday’s home loss to the Cottagers. Diame had been in strong form, firing two goals in the previous four matches, but a couple of strong challenges saw him sidelined with an ankle injury.

The injury to Momo was really disappointing. He had two horrific challenges in the space of about 30 seconds, really early in the game and it was just something where I don’t think the referee gave any sort of protection. We’re hoping it’s just a twisted ankle, after a really bad tackle.He’ll have a scan to discover the real damage and if it’s a ligament tear as well. If it is, it’s going to be a really long period.

Rafael could be set to step up his recovery from a shoulder injury by returning to reserve action against Everton on Thursday. The right-back has failed to feature in the league so far for United and his availability would be a considerable boost for Sir Alex Ferguson, with Chris Smalling reportedly out for a month with a toe problem. United also today confirmed Darron Gibson is back in training after a metatarsal injury.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Repost, don't want to get lost on the previous page...

    Behold,

    Vorm, Ruddy
    Bosingwa, Jenrique, Simpson, Barnett, Naylor
    VDV Silva Sess Dyer Tiote
    Aguero Rooney RVP
    .5 in the bank

    Now lads, what do with the .5? Switch Tiote? Beef up the defensive line? Any thoughts much appreciated.

          Since you have Dyer, Joe Allen is probably not an option but you could go for Bradley Johnson at 4.5 or 4.6 or Faurlin at QPR for 5.0. Both more attacking than Tiote and Faurlin is on some free kicks..

            Cheers brotha. Johnson seems the better option, although faurlin has looked one of the better QPR midfielders. Overall squad look good though? Thinking about upgrading to Kompany too, from Bosingwa, and adding Wilkinson instead of Simpson because of Newcastle fixtures... Decent back line imo, just need to use the, 5 to upgrade the midfield a little.

        GK=who is keeping a clean sheet these days anyway? Vorm is trustworthy as well.
        Def=Bosingway, JEnrique, Simpson are my stable defenders, although I am thinking about upgrading one of them....they're not bad options, may upgrade Bos to Kompany. Again, no one is keeping CS
        Midfield= Silva, VDV, Sess, Tiote ain't too bad. The only change I made to my squad last week were Nani Sturridge and petrov out, Aguero RVP Sess in. Positive changes imo.

        I have .5 in the bank though Rukawa, what do you suggest?

    I'm thinking I might just do SWP to Clev this GW. Seem like the right move?

      a little too cheeky this early in the season. There's 4 or 5 of in-form options at that price with good fixtures (Ramsey, Larsson & Sess come to mind). I personally would want to see more of cleverly before forgoing those other options.

      A lonely man decides one day that he wants to buy a pet, but not just any ordinary pet, something unique. So he goes down to the pet store, looks around, and decides to buy a centipede.

      He takes the centipede home in a shoe box, and after a few hours, he wants to go for a walk. So he shakes the shoe box and says “Hey Centipede, lets go for a walk”… but there’s no answer.

      He shakes it again, “Centipede, you’re my new buddy now, lets go take a nice walk”… but again no answer.

      Finally, a bit upset, he takes off the lid and demands, “Centipede, you’re my pet, and I say its time to take a walk!”

      The centipede looks up at him and says, “Hold on man, I’m getting my damn shoes on!

    Questions with my defense. I plan to play Simpson and Richards but could not decide the last place yet.

    Krul (Vorm)
    Simpson Richards .... Brown Naylor De Laet

    A: Brown .. Away to Man United, his old team. So, could we hope for a goal from ex-player? However, Mignolet and O'Shea will be both out for this weekend and that's worrisome.

    B: Naylor .. Away to Liverpool. Despite the lack of goal, Suarez and Liverpool seem to be in good form. Swansea have zero CS away so far, but their possession are quite impressive. Can they do Norwich or Blackpool?

    C: Trade De Laet > Wilkinson .. Away to Bolton after midweek Europa game. Bolton looked out of form now but stat of Stoke after Euro game was scary.. 😕

    May I have your opinion please?

          If Wilko not play, I'd have no idea for what to do.. 🙁

          Only 0.5m in bank, so Shawcross is out of reach. Upson and Woodgate are rotation/injury risks. Btw, I think Wilko is their first-choice RB now. He's better than Shotton.

    Silva, VDV, Ramsey, Cleverly, (B Johnson),

      Wiz, I like the Murph to Dempsey choice overall, but ditcing Rooney ahead of improving fixs is a gamble, especially when you have golden boy Silva to earn you regular MC points.

      I would also look at a better rotation keeper for Al-Habsi, plus better rotation in your back line. Perhaps Al-Habsi to Hennessey (cheap option), and Ward to Brown (SUN) or possibly Ollsson (WESTB).

            I appreciate that, but the goals are going to be shared within the team, so unless a team is scoring highly, can reduce returns. On the flipside - need to choose the right players - ones that score more fpl points.

    Had planned to WC after GW11, as there is a big swing in fixtures (as well as the intl break to maybe make a bit of cash), and I can restock my team with some Utd, but not so sure now. Team is:

    Given Ruddy
    Lescott Bosingwa Enrique Brown Simpson
    Silva VDV Petrov Moses Fox
    RvP Suarez Adebayor

    If I decide not to WC after GW11, I'll probably save a transfer this week, but if I do WC then I'll need to make one this week or lose it.

    So my question is, would you WC that team after GW11 or not?

      im not sure theres alot you could do in a wildcard. Maybe shuffle budget side of your midfield, but you could do that with transfers. Id definetly save it.

        No Utd is a bit of a worry, though - the fixtures are great, and I hate not having any Utd anyway! I could take Suarez out after the Swansea game and get Hernandez in, but Suarez is the main man (best player, anyway) at Liverpool, Hernandez isn't even guaranteed to start 😕

      Wow. We have extremely similar teams. 11/15 players the same. Only differences are:
      Lescott = J.Olsson
      Simpson = Saylor
      Petrov = Jarvis
      Fox = Sinclair

      I too was planning a WC after GW11 and again it would have been for all the reasons you gave especially the United coverage. We have a lot of the vogue players right now so it's tempting to just leave it... but I'm looking at perhaps doing some housework on the fillers and not the killers.

      Who would I like to get rid of is Given, Ruddy, Bosingwa, Saylor>Raylor, Olsson>Swansea DEF, Jarvis, Moses and perhaps Adebayor. As such I am in favour of the WC.

      With your squad though I would just leave it.

        Cheers IT, housework is just what my team needs, but in the past I've always saved my wildcard for a full refurb! Now that we get a 2nd wildcard I'm not so sure, though - my team value is pretty low, which could come back to bite me later in the season.

        Problem is that I can't really do a lot with my 3 cheap mids, apart from sell Petrov for someone half-decent - they're so cheap that there's no decent options to replace them.

    Hi All,

    Looking for advice on a transfer. Currently have

    Given (VorM)
    Jones / Kompany/ Brown / Walker / Simpson
    Silva / VDV / Sinclair / Ramsey / Ferguson
    RVP / Suarez / Aggy

    Thinking of doing Ferguson > Cleverley which would leave me with 0.0 in the bank. Worried about lack of Man U cover.

    Think this is a good idea, or should i be getting someone else in? (i dont like having no cash in bank!)

        But it seems a rather shallow report and not taking in to account the fact that they have a european game coming up. The point about woodgate starting seems valid dough since hes not in the european squad. It looks like they usually play Woodgate and WIlkinson in PL and Huth and Upson in europe and Cup games.
