Once again the “Frisking” of the fixture list signals the start of the countdown towards another gameweek. The brief is simple – we take the fixtures, block off a month or so, and then tell you the teams with the strongest and weakest schedule in front of them. Newcastle and Demba Ba then proves us all wrong.

The Strong

Arsenal

Robin Van Persie is ablaze, Theo Walcott is hinting at consistency, Aaron Ramsey and Mikel Arteta are providing the creative spark. In attacking terms, things couldn’t be much better for Arsene Wenger’s side. Fantasy managers surely need to get on board with at least one of these assets, as the fixture list suggests that the goals will go on flowing.

West Brom pay visit to the Emirates this weekend having looked wholly unconvincing against Liverpool on Saturday. The Gunners seem an obvious source of returns this weekend, and with Norwich, Fulham and Wigan to come after that, it’s hard to deny Van Persie’s recent claims that he feels he will score in every game. After last season’s run of goals – he has the pedigree to go on delivering and the fixtures to assist him.

Stoke

Monday night’s 3-1 defeat to Newcastle will serve as a setback but there’s no denying that Tony Pulis’ side have the fixtures in front of them to prompt a rapid recovery.

A trip to Bolton shouldn’t carry any fear for the Potters. Even with a questionable attacking threat away from home, they will fancy themselves against the obliging Bolton defence. Following that, both QPR and Blackburn visit the Britannia for matches that offer real promise for goals and clean sheets.

While Jon Walters continues to earn interest having been assigned spot-kick duties, it’s the defensive prospects that are likely to tempt Fantasy managers. Asmir Begovic and Ryan Shawcross have obvious appeal, although the sight of skipper Shawcross limping from the field early on in last night’s game will cause concern for Pulis and his Fantasy owners alike. We’re still waiting on news from the Stoke camp on that – we know it’s a muscle injury, but little else.

With Shawcross perhaps looking at a spell on the sidelines and Marc Wilson also nursing a knock from the Newcastle defeat, there is a need for caution. Stoke’s defence could be facing upheaval for the trip to Bolton, although the international break will then hopefully give Pulis the opportunity to nurse back his injury doubts.

Andy Wilkinson could benefit from the casualties; he seems to have cemented the right-back role and with Robert Huth perhaps needed to fill in alongside Jonathan Woodgate or Matt Upson, his start looks secure.

Everton

Leighton Baines is back in the game. Having promised so much going into the season and, having seen the departure of Mikel Arteta’s craft at set-pieces boost his Fantasy appeal, the fixture list has denied him the opportunity for big returns. This is now about to change with Everton set to embark on a kind run of opponents that must surely bring the foraging full-back to our attention.

A price drop to 7.8 in the Fantasy Premier League game will make him slightly more palatable, but it’s the fixtures that do most to convince. Once the Toffees get this weekend’s trip to Newcastle out of the way, they have four home matches in six with Wolves, Stoke, Norwich and Swansea all visiting Goodison.

Fleet-footed winger Royston Drenthe will also require monitoring over that spell as Everton at last come alive as a Fantasy prospect, having spent weeks off the radar.

Tottenham

Six wins in seven for Tottenham – like their North London rivals, the form is outstanding right now. Similarly, the fixture list suggests that there’s every chance for continued returns.

Those Fantasy managers mulling over whether to chase Rafael Van der Vaart’s recent avalanche of points should consider the cost of further hesitation. Short of injury, it’s difficult to conceive that the Dutchman, like Van Persie, will fail to continue delivering consistent returns in the month ahead.

Aston Villa, Bolton and Sunderland are the next three sides at White Hart Lane, whilst Harry Redknapp will take promising away form to West Brom and Norwich before gameweek 19. An away trip to Stoke in gameweek 15 looks tough but even the home encounter with Chelsea in gameweek 17 appears to promise attacking returns.

Also Consider…

Sunderland – Ignore the trip to Old Trafford this weekend and the Black Cats have a rather enviable little schedule in front of them, which should see Steve Bruce improve on their current league position. Three home games in four, with Fulham, Wigan and Blackburn at the Stadium of Light, will likely find them amongst our “Strong” selection next week as plans for investment are hatched.

Bolton – Owen Coyle’s side are floundering but the Trotters’ boss can at least take comfort from the upcoming fixture list and start plotting a route to mid-table. Three Reebok encounters in the next five bring Stoke, Everton and Villa to their door – all matches that could fetch goals to boost the Fantasy reputation of Martin Petrov and Chris Eagles that little bit more.

Man United – While Fantasy managers start to fidget uncomfortably at the prospect of further blanks from Wayne Rooney and Nani, the fixture list presents a reason to show patience. Three Old Trafford encounters in the next five offer Alex Ferguson’s men the opportunity to build on the 1-0 win at Goodison. It might just be worth holding tight to their big assets and assess them again following the weekend clash with Sunderland.

The Weak

Newcastle

Monday’s superb victory at Stoke offered good indication of just how far Newcastle have come. The Magpies are in dreamland, sitting snugly on the tail of the Manchester clubs, with Alan Pardew fighting to stave off talk of European football. However, while the form and league placing is outstanding, we’ve every reason to show caution for the month ahead given Newcastle’s schedule.

As we stressed in last week’s “Frisking”, we have our doubts that the Magpies can carry resolute defensive form into November. Everton will test the St James’ Park rearguard this weekend and, after the break, Pardew takes his side to City and United, before a home clash with Chelsea – clean sheets look very unlikely on that run.

As for Demba Ba, there’s little doubt that he presents outstanding value but, following the Everton game, he will surely find it difficult to further his reputation given the opposition in front of him. It’s another classic form versus fixtures scenario.

Fulham

Martin Jol’s side continue to frustrate. There’s Fantasy talent in their ranks but, so far, only Clint Dempsey has even hinted at delivering consistent returns. The 2-0 win at Wigan last time out may give Jol something to build upon but the Dutchman now takes his side into a tricky four-game run, starting with the visit of in-form Tottenham this weekend.

Trips to Sunderland and Arsenal then follow – neither of which appear to offer too much promise. That is then followed by a home encounter with Liverpool to kick off December. All in all, the prospects of Fulham actually stringing together some positive results and decent Fantasy returns remain fairly bleak.

Also be wary of…

Liverpool – Jose Enrique is picking up investment this week but, in the short-term, his potential may be limited to attacking thrusts. Fail to keep a clean sheet against the Swans and we don’t see defensive returns for a while with Chelsea, City and a trip to Fulham to follow.

Norwich – Fantasy managers clinging to cheap defensive options within Paul Lambert’s squad have little cause for optimism in the coming weeks. The gameweek 13 home clash with QPR looks the best prospect, but trips to Villa Park and City, with Arsenal at Carrow Road in gameweek 12, creates a testing schedule.

Swansea – The Swans rely on home displays to maintain their form and league placing but, with United at the Liberty next, this could be a difficult month for Brendan Rodgers’s side. Trips to Liverpool this weekend, and Blackburn in gameweek 14, will likely mean that Swansea will need to find rewards from the gameweek 13 home clash with Villa.

Aston Villa – Alex McLeish’s outfit also have a daunting November ahead of them. This weekend’s visit of Norwich looks vital; slip up there and Villa then have testing trips to Tottenham and Swansea, followed by a home clash with United.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

No. Just do Gerrard to Nani and don't take a hit for a defender unless you have no fit/playing subs for Hughes.

    Raylor, Saylor, Enrique (Tierney, Boyata)

    RvP, Rooney, Suarez

Suggestions to sort out this. Have 1 FT and .1 in the bank.

Ramsey and Arteta is overkill in my opinion, Arteta not worth the money better options for the price available, also modric is a good footballer but not good from a fantasy football perspective as he doesn't create enough assists and score many goals, look at possibly bringing Walters in for one of them

My suggestions would be either 1) two defs and a GK from Toon is too much, esp. with up&coming fixtures - maybe worth changing one of them, or 2) Ramsey & Arteta is a bit much from the Ars mid, esp. with RvP up top.

Could just change Boyata > Wilkinson in prep. for next week though

Too much Newcastle defense. Their fixtures are drying up fast. This week tho could return good points tho if you did play 3 of them. I think 3 Arsenal is too many as well. RVP is the closest thing to a 'must have' in FPL atm. Ramsay is good value so I would get rid of Arteta personally, altho same story this weekend as they have a nice home fixture this week so that could return good returns also.
So this week you can field a pretty strong team, but in the long run you need to rid of 2 newcastle in my opnion if not all of them and Arteta needs to go. He's just not worth his money imo. Modric to VDV should be on the cards so finding funds for that has to be a goal as well.
      Hope this helps.

    Krul (Vorm)
    Bosingwa Enrique Simpson (Kompany, Briggs)
    Ramsey Nani VDV Silva (N.Dyer)
    Adebayor Sturridge Aguero

Now i know RVP is on fire, but....is it really worth me trading any of those out for him for a 4 point hit for this weekend? (He'll then have to score two goals to effectively score me 4 points)

Haha thanks guys! Finally some sensible and informative responses, everytime i raise this topic people breathe down my neck!
Clearly i would like RVP, but Nani has great fixtures coming up and i just feel that getting RVP in will affect the balance of the rest of my team.
I was stupid in trading out RVP before the Stoke game (with one eye on the upcoming Chelsea fixture) as i wanted some big Chelsea coverage before the QPR game!
        Big mistake!
Think i'll wait until after the International break and if i have to, then i'll bite the bullet and bring in RVP.
The other thing is, i can't catch my rivals if i don't have different players (though i am aware that with RVP they may get further ahead!)
        Cheers chaps...

          Given (Vorm)

Im thinking about transfering out either Bosingwa or Kompany, for Jones or Evans. I'm not sure whether it will be worth it though at it seems impossible to predict clean sheets.

In my honest opinion i would downgrade Nani to try and acomodate RVP, i know you said you you didnt want such a response, and really i didnt want to comment as the fewer people get RVP in the better it is for those who own him including me, but right now i feel he's a must have, its the beginning of a re-spark with arsenal i feel, and RVP is gonna be all over the place with goals galore, i'd say get him, but if not, keep it as it is and pray he does nothing, but better to get than pray 🙂

If i didn't have to take a points hit i'd get RVP in, probably for Adebayor.
Aguero and Sturridge have great fixtures this weekend and could easily score as well as Van Persie.
My idea also was to downgrade Nani, possibly to Walters. A home game vs Stoke and infront of the home fans after a 6-1 drubbing, i can see a performance coming out the bag and with no Young available, Nani surely looks nailed-on.
I think the Everton game was played very cautiuosly without a big attacking plan, hence the team that day.

Team at the moment for GW11 is:

    Given (NOR)
Simpson (EVE) Bosingwa (bla) Enrique (SWA)
Ramsey (WBA) Sinclair (liv) VDV (ful) Silva (qpr)
RVP (WBA) Suarez (SWA) Sturridge (bla)

subs - Vorm, Shawcross, Kompany, Moses

I've currently got £0.0m in the bank but i do have 2 free transfers this week. Any suggestions?

I was thinking of bringing Evans in for Bosingwa and then saving my extra freebie for after the international break. That way i will have a bit of money in the bank (about £1.4m) and 2 transfers for GW 12 when i'll have to get rid of the likes of Enrique, Simpson, Moses and perhaps Suarez too.

I need to make at least 1 transfer this week otherwise i'll lose it. Plus my defence is a little bit too expensive in general so is a good opportunity to downgrade one.

As for Rovers away, i think we'll score which means Bosingwa will have to do something at the other end. Not out of the question of course but not that appealing either. Plus is he even guaranteed to keep his place in the starting XI?

In which case I'd agree although I'm doubtful about Bla scoring.

If you do have to get rid I'm sure there's better than a rotation laden Man U player.

I'm in the same position (but have to dump De laet) and am considering Evens even though I have the cash.

I am thinking BAE (don't laugh) as he rotates well with Enrique and then I can do Bos > Sun def who rotates well with Simps, but that's my team, not yours.

Enrique and Simpson will likely be leaving my team soon so don't really have to worry about rotating defenders just yet.

As for Rovers not scoring, i'm surprised you see it like that. When was the last time Chelsea kept a clean sheet away from home? Or a clean sheet at the Bridge for that matter!

I think their back 4 will be this:

                  Bosingwa, Ivanovic, Terry, Cole

Evans > Bos would be a good'un. If you don't want to lose a transfer, jumping the gun on Wilkinson>ShawX could be an idea?? Would mean you could keep Bos for the Blackburn game, and would free up funds for later moves. Given ShawX's injury and unknown length of absence it wouldn't be a bad idea perhaps. I'd assume ShawX/Wilko would be bench fodder this weekend anyway...

Yeah Shawcross out is another option. Will have to wait for some news on the injury.

2 points is most likely. Can't see a clean sheet for Chelsea. The Rovers lads seem pretty keen to play for Kean [see what I did there] and BRFC have had a good record at Ewood over the last couple of season. AVB has promised to keep attacking which means Bos (and ACole) higher up the pitch, which obv. = better chance of assists, but also increases the chance of conceding. Relying on a potential assist for a defender for FF "satisfaction" seems a tad risky...

SD my team is identical to yours with the exception of Ramsey -> Walters, Sturridge -> Adebayor, Shawcross -> Gabbidon.

I am also considering Bosigwa to either Evans or Jones, think its definitely worth it over the next few fixtures, cant see Chelsea keeping a clean sheet for a while. Im just concerned about rotation within the Man Utd defense.

Evening chaps - well I didn't win motm, someone had bale, morison, rvp(c) suarez and dzeko so I wiped out AND I brought in milner which was epic fail.

    Here's my team

    Krul Vorm
Enrique R Taylor Smalling Richards Warnock
Silva Milner Modric N Dyer Ramsey
    RVP Suarez Adebayor

I feel like I need major surgery.

Milner, Dyner and Modric aren't going to give me much I think.
Smalling needs replacing, ideally with Jones.
R Taylor and Krul look likely to be leaky
Vorm's got no fixtures in his favour
Adebayor's being too quiet for my liking
Suarez has 1 more game week left in him.

    What do I do?

My first thought is to sort out midfield, everyone's leaky in defence so far so there's no real rush there and who knows there may be a chance of newcastle holding form so here are my options

    1 FT, Milner, 7.5, Modric, 7.9, N Dyer, 4.6

a)Milner/modric to Walters (and try to get VDV)
b)Milner/modric to larsson, (and possibly get vdv if its affordable?)
    c) Milner/modric to ramires & larsson or walters?

    (they're all 4 pt hits)

Or do I just do 1 move and slowly build towards a strong december?

Long post sorry but Im feeling if I don't get focused Ill lose interest and its all gone to pot!!

    2) mauro formica. blackburn are shipping for fun but still nicking goals at the other end. 5mil, semi OOP, starting to get regular starts and rotates perfectly with dyer.

johnson is a good punt you would have to fancy him getting play time in those as you say

With all the talk of cheap mids no one surprisingly has mentioned Brunt gone relatively unnoticed by many and has been bringing the points home over the last 4 weeks and only 5.8 good differential to have I'm keeping for a little while longer

Formica's first season in England no? These players sometimes take a little time getting used to the premier league, not a bad bet though, he could find form

He arrived in January so should be settled. He barely played the last 6 months of last season, just a few reserve outings i think.

TBH Rochina is the one i'd want but unfortunately he's listed as a forward.

The short answer is yes, although it's not quite that simple. He suffers a bit from the fact that he can't play midfield for us. He doesn't have the defensive discipline to play there although saying that Rochina is even worse.

Formica started out playing off Yakubu on Saturday but Rochina was coming inside so much (he started on the right of midfield) that i think Kean actually swapped them over after about half an hour.

I started the season with Formica so i am a fan but he's one of those that you'll never be sure of starting until you see his name on in the line ups! I expect him to stay in the side for the Chelsea game, beyond that i'm not sure

Kompany suspended and Shawcross could be out injured so keep an eye out for that one otherwise you nay have to play brown against man it'd might be worth doing Shawcross to wilkinson sideways move buy also frees up funds

oooo i really hope they don't. That's where you can get a competitive edge by planning well ahead in FPL.

If anything i think it is more likely to go up again to 5 points rather than down to 3 or 2. They discourage transfers as much as possible, that's why the fewer transfers you make the higher your ranking when your total points are equal

Everyone will end up with roughly the same team though. I quite like the idea that everyone has the token flop, makes it interesting in another kind of way

I strongly disagree, it would just make the game easier for casual players who don't plan ahead, while not rewarding managers who've made good decisions and brought in the right players.

Yeh I just thought that would be a good idea, but it would make the game MUCH easier for the casuals and make sites like this pointless so I think it was a bit of a stupid idea to bring it up.

Is Drenthe a guaranteed starter now by the way? I want him next week.

    a) Woodgate -> J Evans (and bench Wilkinson)
    b) Save the transfer to offload Given & Dunne in GW12.

    Given
    Dunne, Simpson, Wilkinson
    Silva, VDV, Sinclair, Ramsey
    RVP, Aguero, Adebayor

    Ruddy, Moses, Woodgate, Brown

I would rather swap Dunne for J Evans, not this GW but next of course. Woodgate will probably play this weekend so no need to get rid of him. Perhaps save the transfer?

Perhaps save it and then Given/Dunne -> Friedel/Evans next week if Evans looks safe at the back? Starting to think with Jones, Smalling, Rio and Rafael competing for the CB/RB spots, there will be a lot of rotation. Swaying towards someone like N Taylor at 4.1m - nailed on starter for a team fairly tight at home.

B definately. Even if he doesn't play he won't feature so is an easy sub, A better option than De Laet thats for sure.

Also Bosingwa plays Blackburn so might even get a clean sheet

I can't see Chelsea keeping a clean sheet against anyone at the moment, and Bos is falling in value so I want to get rid of him. But I am leaning towards B even though I'd like to wait a bit longer on Evans to see if he's nailed on.

It depends if you will lose selling value with bosingwa look out for that detail, and if you do maybe wait till the last minute to see if he does drop in value. But to be honest I don't think saving 0.1m should influence your decision on this. B is easily the most logical call
