Once again the “Frisking” of the fixture list signals the start of the countdown towards another gameweek. The brief is simple – we take the fixtures, block off a month or so, and then tell you the teams with the strongest and weakest schedule in front of them. Newcastle and Demba Ba then proves us all wrong.

The Strong

Arsenal

Robin Van Persie is ablaze, Theo Walcott is hinting at consistency, Aaron Ramsey and Mikel Arteta are providing the creative spark. In attacking terms, things couldn’t be much better for Arsene Wenger’s side. Fantasy managers surely need to get on board with at least one of these assets, as the fixture list suggests that the goals will go on flowing.

West Brom pay visit to the Emirates this weekend having looked wholly unconvincing against Liverpool on Saturday. The Gunners seem an obvious source of returns this weekend, and with Norwich, Fulham and Wigan to come after that, it’s hard to deny Van Persie’s recent claims that he feels he will score in every game. After last season’s run of goals – he has the pedigree to go on delivering and the fixtures to assist him.

Stoke

Monday night’s 3-1 defeat to Newcastle will serve as a setback but there’s no denying that Tony Pulis’ side have the fixtures in front of them to prompt a rapid recovery.

A trip to Bolton shouldn’t carry any fear for the Potters. Even with a questionable attacking threat away from home, they will fancy themselves against the obliging Bolton defence. Following that, both QPR and Blackburn visit the Britannia for matches that offer real promise for goals and clean sheets.

While Jon Walters continues to earn interest having been assigned spot-kick duties, it’s the defensive prospects that are likely to tempt Fantasy managers. Asmir Begovic and Ryan Shawcross have obvious appeal, although the sight of skipper Shawcross limping from the field early on in last night’s game will cause concern for Pulis and his Fantasy owners alike. We’re still waiting on news from the Stoke camp on that – we know it’s a muscle injury, but little else.

With Shawcross perhaps looking at a spell on the sidelines and Marc Wilson also nursing a knock from the Newcastle defeat, there is a need for caution. Stoke’s defence could be facing upheaval for the trip to Bolton, although the international break will then hopefully give Pulis the opportunity to nurse back his injury doubts.

Andy Wilkinson could benefit from the casualties; he seems to have cemented the right-back role and with Robert Huth perhaps needed to fill in alongside Jonathan Woodgate or Matt Upson, his start looks secure.

Everton

Leighton Baines is back in the game. Having promised so much going into the season and, having seen the departure of Mikel Arteta’s craft at set-pieces boost his Fantasy appeal, the fixture list has denied him the opportunity for big returns. This is now about to change with Everton set to embark on a kind run of opponents that must surely bring the foraging full-back to our attention.

A price drop to 7.8 in the Fantasy Premier League game will make him slightly more palatable, but it’s the fixtures that do most to convince. Once the Toffees get this weekend’s trip to Newcastle out of the way, they have four home matches in six with Wolves, Stoke, Norwich and Swansea all visiting Goodison.

Fleet-footed winger Royston Drenthe will also require monitoring over that spell as Everton at last come alive as a Fantasy prospect, having spent weeks off the radar.

Tottenham

Six wins in seven for Tottenham – like their North London rivals, the form is outstanding right now. Similarly, the fixture list suggests that there’s every chance for continued returns.

Those Fantasy managers mulling over whether to chase Rafael Van der Vaart’s recent avalanche of points should consider the cost of further hesitation. Short of injury, it’s difficult to conceive that the Dutchman, like Van Persie, will fail to continue delivering consistent returns in the month ahead.

Aston Villa, Bolton and Sunderland are the next three sides at White Hart Lane, whilst Harry Redknapp will take promising away form to West Brom and Norwich before gameweek 19. An away trip to Stoke in gameweek 15 looks tough but even the home encounter with Chelsea in gameweek 17 appears to promise attacking returns.

Also Consider…

Sunderland – Ignore the trip to Old Trafford this weekend and the Black Cats have a rather enviable little schedule in front of them, which should see Steve Bruce improve on their current league position. Three home games in four, with Fulham, Wigan and Blackburn at the Stadium of Light, will likely find them amongst our “Strong” selection next week as plans for investment are hatched.

Bolton – Owen Coyle’s side are floundering but the Trotters’ boss can at least take comfort from the upcoming fixture list and start plotting a route to mid-table. Three Reebok encounters in the next five bring Stoke, Everton and Villa to their door – all matches that could fetch goals to boost the Fantasy reputation of Martin Petrov and Chris Eagles that little bit more.

Man United – While Fantasy managers start to fidget uncomfortably at the prospect of further blanks from Wayne Rooney and Nani, the fixture list presents a reason to show patience. Three Old Trafford encounters in the next five offer Alex Ferguson’s men the opportunity to build on the 1-0 win at Goodison. It might just be worth holding tight to their big assets and assess them again following the weekend clash with Sunderland.

The Weak

Newcastle

Monday’s superb victory at Stoke offered good indication of just how far Newcastle have come. The Magpies are in dreamland, sitting snugly on the tail of the Manchester clubs, with Alan Pardew fighting to stave off talk of European football. However, while the form and league placing is outstanding, we’ve every reason to show caution for the month ahead given Newcastle’s schedule.

As we stressed in last week’s “Frisking”, we have our doubts that the Magpies can carry resolute defensive form into November. Everton will test the St James’ Park rearguard this weekend and, after the break, Pardew takes his side to City and United, before a home clash with Chelsea – clean sheets look very unlikely on that run.

As for Demba Ba, there’s little doubt that he presents outstanding value but, following the Everton game, he will surely find it difficult to further his reputation given the opposition in front of him. It’s another classic form versus fixtures scenario.

Fulham

Martin Jol’s side continue to frustrate. There’s Fantasy talent in their ranks but, so far, only Clint Dempsey has even hinted at delivering consistent returns. The 2-0 win at Wigan last time out may give Jol something to build upon but the Dutchman now takes his side into a tricky four-game run, starting with the visit of in-form Tottenham this weekend.

Trips to Sunderland and Arsenal then follow – neither of which appear to offer too much promise. That is then followed by a home encounter with Liverpool to kick off December. All in all, the prospects of Fulham actually stringing together some positive results and decent Fantasy returns remain fairly bleak.

Also be wary of…

Liverpool – Jose Enrique is picking up investment this week but, in the short-term, his potential may be limited to attacking thrusts. Fail to keep a clean sheet against the Swans and we don’t see defensive returns for a while with Chelsea, City and a trip to Fulham to follow.

Norwich – Fantasy managers clinging to cheap defensive options within Paul Lambert’s squad have little cause for optimism in the coming weeks. The gameweek 13 home clash with QPR looks the best prospect, but trips to Villa Park and City, with Arsenal at Carrow Road in gameweek 12, creates a testing schedule.

Swansea – The Swans rely on home displays to maintain their form and league placing but, with United at the Liberty next, this could be a difficult month for Brendan Rodgers’s side. Trips to Liverpool this weekend, and Blackburn in gameweek 14, will likely mean that Swansea will need to find rewards from the gameweek 13 home clash with Villa.

Aston Villa – Alex McLeish’s outfit also have a daunting November ahead of them. This weekend’s visit of Norwich looks vital; slip up there and Villa then have testing trips to Tottenham and Swansea, followed by a home clash with United.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Friskin' the fix: great article. Anyone needing advice needs to stop by there first.

    Everton's fixtures are incredibly good-pity there's no 4.5 uber.

SUN - here's a little quandary. I noticed that Jonny Evans is 4.5 and has already made 8/10 starts this year. I'm thinking of bootin' Brown and swapping for Evans. If Evans does a no-show, it matters little as I'll have other ubers to take his place.

    Is this win - win?

That earlier article on Evans and Rio suggested that there are 4 CBs in competition: Rio, Vidic, Evans and Smalling.

It seemed to suggest that SAF might start Evans ahead of Rio. How do you see the Utd back 4?

Yeah I agree with Rio being on the outer. Its Smalling and Jones that may make CB their own with Vidic. Rafael is coming back to and he will likely slot back in at RB

SAF would probably favour a settled centre-back partnership, which means Evans has a chance to stake a claim now. The worry is that he's not actually that great, so a couple more high-profile errors and he could find himself out on his ear when Smalling is fit. Safe for now though I'd say, SAF obviously sees something in him.

Yeah your right, and Smalling is more likely to get the spot than Jones but will be out for a few weeks giving Evans a chance. Maybe Rafael and Jones will battle for the RB position

      Afternoon, Sir Jafalad.

Seems a few people are planning on making a similar change this week, me included, except it'll be Woody > little Johnny. I was thinking along the same lines - stick him in and if he doesn't play then the uber with the best fixture will come in instead. And it'll give me a double JE defence, which I rather like the sound of, as it were.

        Hi BK,

50k bought Enrique in this week - incredible. Looks like the poor punters will only get one game out of him as well. On saying that though, this shout for assists is not swome shot in the dark. I was looking at the Optas earlier and he plays a lot of passes in the oppo's half. Key pass attempts, long balls, through balls - he was pretty influential.

I was going to boot him after the SWN game but now thinking of hanging on. It's either that or Jagielka/Distin and ChoppaToni 😯

Regarding the other JE, I did a little research on the Rate My Team site this morning. I have no idea how reliable their figures are but they had him as the 6th highest value for money defender until Christmas, behind N.Taylor, Wilko etc. Kompany was numero uno. He (JE) was best value at his price and about 8th in the any price rankings. I think I'll be keeping him, too.

Gotta dash, have a nice day.

My worry would be that we're all a little late for the Jonny Evans party.

Vidic is well and truly back and will start concievably every game. Which leaves JE fighting for a starting berth with the infinitely better Smalling (assuming Jones keeps the right back spot).

But if you're not bothered about him not starting often then go with it

Not consistent enough at ff level. However, staying with BLB, has anyone noticed how Samba has dominated the defender goal threat data in the last 4 gwks?

2 goals; 7 attempts, 5 on target. Had previously only managed 3 attempts all season. Is he being shunted upfield as a change of ploy I wonder? 😕

Not at all - if anything, it's a little too expensive. Jones is 6 mill and is your one exp defender to fill up one of the three defendery places. You could get Evans at 4.5 and save some cash. The other alternative is EVE - there may be a 5.5 def you could have to utilise with their better fix.

H2H is luck based. You only have to beat your rival. Score the best you can & the rest takes care of itself. Look at your rivals team & guess his captain/trades etc.

The first year I played I won my H2H. I did it by studying the opposition and only taking hits when up against one of the duffers. I would also try to play the same captain and generally pick the team, or my transfer, to try to nullify their strengths. You can do this a few games ahead to an extent.

I haven't bothered since cos the element of luck is too great. You are always going to lose a few games to other teams having a freak score. I have lost H2H matches with some of my highest scores and won them with some of my lowest. This year I am second highest in total score in my H2H but have only just moved up from 9th to 5th. Doubt I can catch the top player now even though we are first and 2nd in our Classic league with him only 9 points ahead.

I differentiated and planned ahead. I paid close attention to my H2H when the opponent was one of the strong teams and focused on my own team when up against the duffers. You know, the guys who pick a team and captain in August and then forget about it for six months.

Hi, my youngest daughter (9) needs help with her team.
You may not want to help her considering how well she's doing... 1,632 overall and 13 in NZ!

    http://fantasy.premierleague.com/entry/1513141/history/

Anyway, there are a lot of players who are probably past their use by date. Bosingwa, Johnson, Moses, Shwartzer. Others are maybe best transferred out too. Rooney, Downing, Simpson - which begs the question should she wild card or tinker her way through it?

I'm planning on keeping my WC till Jan but she has so much deadwood maybe a WC next week is in order. Anyway, any advice welcome on who to transfer in etc and watch the language cos she's going to read the answers 🙂

I have three daughters and they all have teams so you could call it my fourth. But there are rules, principally they make the decisions, I just give advice. My second daughter doesn't take advice and is languishing. The other two chose Rooney at the start of the season when I didn't and I've only just caught my eldest. I doubt I'll catch my youngest, I've never been that high in the rankings.

That team is similar to mine and I am going to WC after this weekend during the international break. I agree too much deadwood especially with tough fixtures coming up for Fulham, Newcastle, Liverpool etc

Downing, Morrison, Bosingwa, Johnson all need to be traded out.

Start with Bosingwa to Evans for now to free up the cash.

      Ka kite! 🙂

Thanks for the input Jafa. It's raining here, wait til the 26th December, it doesn't usually get better til then. Jobs are getting hard to come by too so maybe hang out in the heat a bit longer.

Morison is a bencher so not a priority to shift out, I'd say, so long as he plays and doesn't threaten to lose value.

I wouldn't be benching a forward - not with all these bps this year going to the forwards. Buy the best three forwards that you can afford.

I am actually in NZ - my FF team play in the CAR league. 🙂

C'mon Jagielka drop in price already. He will be gold at 5.3 and their run of fixtures. In the first 4 games he got 2 clean sheets, a goal and an assist.

Since then Everton have played Citeh, Liverpool, Chelsea, Fulham (away conceded only 1 goal) and Man. United.

Everton's clean sheet potential is about to return

Get Terry out, Chelsea are a bit out of sorts at the moment, you did well to cash in on his goals but don't rely on that long term. Get a dirt cheap defender for him then u can upgrade one of your strikers for RVP. I would also downgrade Gutierrez to a cheapie to make up the extra cash. Dempsey is coming into form so you may not want to get rid of him just yet

Selling someone who's just scored back-to-back braces was never the most inspired plan... best striker in the Premier League.

28 goals in 27 games this year. That's just mental. To put it in context, Messi has 27 goals in 29 games.

I'm absolutely not. Aguero may challenge him this season to be fair, and Rooney has his days, but RVP is a natural goal-scorer: basically, whenever he's been fit he's been scoring goals. He's been carrying Arsenal for some time. Cesc was a big loss, but if they lost RVP they'd be screwed. 28 goals. 27 games.

Maybe I'm biased from the fantasy football history I've had with him! It's probably fair to say the likes of Rooney, Aguero, Suarez are scorers of better goals, but the guy just scores constantly... depends on your definition of what makes a great striker I suppose.

I desperately need another hat-trick from him to break into the top 10k this week.I'm fingers crossed for that. Also I have given him the armband .It would be a double delight for me if he does that and in the process catapults me up the ranking ladder into the elite clubs.

Runs always end and he's certainly due a bad week but I'm captaining him anyway. If he stays injury free he may have the armband for the season. That way there is no chance of missing the good weeks like I just did!

Any suggestions for improving my WC for the international break?
    Begovic Krul
Wilkinson McAuley Baines J Evans S Taylor
    Ramsey VDV Walters Brunt Sessegnon/Drenthe
    RVP Rooney Bendtner

It's loaded towards the fixtures up until the Jan wildcard and lacks Chelsea and Man City. Is that a problem? The keepers seem to rotate well, although De Gea/Kenny could be another option.

    Defender thoughts:

Thinking Bos -> Jones this week - is Jones absolutely nailed on at the mo?

or should I be looking at Everton/Spurs defenders?
Or even Sunderland? (embarrassingly sold Brown a few weeks back, just as their fixtures were improving)

Fergie will surely be looking to keep a settled back 4 for the foreseeable future. At least in the league. I think that i'm going to gamble on Evans. Even though he is a bit rubbish. That way I can get De Gea with enough money left over for Rooney if he moves back up front/ Man Utd's form improves. If I go for Jones I would have to get Chico instead of Rooney. Or no De Gea. Current keepers are Vorm and Given so need to make a change there. Thoughts?

One thing i have learnt in this game is DO NOT buy a defender because his better teammates are either injured or out of favour.
In a few weeks you will have to dump Evens when you realise he is no longer starting much.

You will laugh. I've had a crazy notion of getting in ALL 3 CITY strikers as I want some coverage for their great run of fixtures and don't want to worry about the rotation. I reckon that if the team keeps to anything like this form, it might be a great (crazy) differential! Around 2.5mill cheaper than my other planned trio of RVP, Rooney and Sturridge. I've got a few weeks to decide if I think their form will continue, or if they will get found out. Go on laugh!

Yeah Im kind of on the potential De Gea bandwagon a few have looked at changing up their keeper tactics so I can see what your doing there. I wouldn't however double up on United defense but then again for a couple of weeks it could work out till Evans loses his place.

Not to waste time on the discussion of yesterday.....just had a thought....to prevent managers from "highJACKing" other teams and linking their FFS usernames to teams that belong to someone else...maybe Mark & Co should consider a function where you actually have to type in your FPL password prior to linking your team to your FFS username.

without being any sort of computer whiz that sounds impossible given this site and FPL are 2 entirely separate sites

Hey, what do I know...given FFS/FPL working relationship and the fact the FFS managed to get rid of RBJ....I would say anything is possible.

It might also be an idea to display ffs league ranking next to our names when we post - could serve to filter out dud advice from someone that knows wots they're doing...

In which case of course no-one may listen to me.. 🙂

So you finishing in top500 last season gives you the right to tell me to change my gravatar?

Two things....past rankings don't impress me(unless your called "SI"). I did not like Camzy(which finished in top 10 last season if I'm not mistaken) so beleive me your past ranking does sweet f-all to impress me.

            Secondly....koop RVP jou doos.

Unless you're desperate for funds I'd keep STaylor. After their 3 week horror stretch they have nor-SWA-WBA-bol, before another hard 2 weeks. Might find you want him back in a month's time...

I have him and am just benching him for the bad matchups.

Depending on how much extra $ you can scrounge up, I'd go Aguero (the RVP-Ageuro-Adebayor frontline is what I've got).

But I don't think your forwards are the priority - leave them for now and, similarly to STaylor, look at Ba after their bad 3 weeks are over maybe?

Of the list you gave, I'd say in order of urgency to move out:

          Moses
          Given
          Enrique
          STaylor
          Suarez
