While our players stretch sinews on international pitches, us Fanatsy managers have little option but to hope for the best and continue to make plans for the gameweek ahead. Business as usual, then – here’s our weekly examination of the fixture schedules with analysis of the strong and the weak…

The Strong

Everton

Four Goodison encounters in the next six gameweeks against highly beatable opposition gives Everton their most favourable run of the season. Wolves, Stoke, Norwich and Swansea all arrive on Merseyside, handing David Moyes every chance of orchestrating an ascent up the table.

In Fantasy terms, interest in Royston Drenthe and Leighton Baines is surely set to increase, particularly if they can produce the goods in the gameweek 12 clash with Wolves. Jack Rodwell, subject of a Talent article later this week, has also begun to deliver on his promise and presents an additional differential which could offer strong returns going into the Christmas programme.

Sunderland

Steve Bruce’s side have been typically inconsistent this season, struggling for goals without delivering clean sheets at the other end. The Black Cats’ defence stood up well at Old Trafford last time out however and, with John O’Shea likely to return to add further solidity, Bruce’s rearguard is worthy of attention.

Three home fixtures in four offers every chance of returns, with Fulham, Wigan and Blackburn all due at the Stadium of Light. A trip to Ewood Park in gameweek 14 could also offer profits. Nicklas Bendtner remains the headline act in attacking terms, with Seb Larsson (suspended this week) and Stephane Sessegnon presenting steady mid-price midfield options. Wes Brown, with a strong EA SPORTS PPI return so far, looks the best proposition in the back four, with keeper Kieren Westwood, also set to earn interest from those shedding Villa’s Shay Given.

Arsenal

It’s difficult to see a let-up in Robin Van Persie’s relentless rise to essential status, with home games with Fulham and Everton, coupled with trips to Norwich and Wigan to come in the next four gameweeks. Goals look guaranteed, while Arsene Wenger’s defence, with Thomas Vermaelen now reinstalled, has shown shoots of improvement that suggest that they could yet be worth consideration.

Things stiffen by the gameweek 16 trip to Man City but that’s followed by another batch of kind opponents, with QPR and Wolves due at the Emirates.

West Brom

Like Sunderland, the Baggies have suffered from an inconsistency that has, to this point, slowed Fantasy investment. Injuries to Shane Long and Peter Odemwingie has also reduced the appeal, while Chris Brunt has shown glimpses of form, but has been unable to sustain regular returns to compete with other midfielders in his price bracket. Surprisingly, it’s been West Brom’s defensive assets that have attracted recent interest, with Gareth McAuley, at 4.0 in the Fantasy Premier League game, providing a interesting budget option.

Things could change going into December however, with Odemwingie and Long recovering from injuries, while Brunt should be central to fortunes over a run that has them face Bolton, Spurs and Wigan at the Hawthorns in the next four. Trips to QPR and Blackburn are also on the horizon, presenting Roy Hodgson’s side with a decent run of opponents that could bring returns at both ends.

Also Consider…

Stoke – The comforts of the Britannia in front of their own bellowing support should offer Tony Pulis’ side the opportunity to recover from the 5-0 Reebok drubbing. Europa League fatigue will be a concern, but the back four and Jon Walters remain popular Fantasy targets with three of the next four at home.

Tottenham – Villa on Monday night is the first of three home matches in five gameweeks, with Bolton and Sunderland also due at the Lane. Away trips to West Brom and Stoke will provide stern tests, however.

Blackburn – Steve Kean’s men may not quite be ready for Fantasy investment – some would say that day will never come – however, from gameweek 14 things improve markedly. In the meantime, early adopters may take the plunge for away trips to Wigan and Stoke in the next two gameweeks.

The Weak

Aston Villa

A Monday night trip to the Lane under lights is just the start of a hideous run of games for Alex McLeish’s outfit. They follow this with a testing trip across the Welsh border to take on Swansea, with United, Liverpool and Arsenal then the next three opponents due at Villa Park.

While attacking assets such as Darren Bent and Gabby Agbonlahor may well be held during this testing spell, Shay Given and his defence will surely suffer significant Fantasy sales.

Newcastle

Alan Pardew’s men stumbled past Everton in unconvincing fashion to cement an unlikely league standing, but now embark on a run that will truly test their credentials. A gameweek 12 trip to City is followed by an Old Trafford visit and a home clash with Chelsea. Defensive returns over those three gameweeks perhaps seem dubious, with Ryan Taylor and Steven Taylor likely to require attacking points to reward their ownership.

In attacking terms, Demba Ba remains a popular target but will surely struggle to maintain his recent scoring rate – at least for the next couple of gameweeks.

Fulham

Consistency remains an issue for Martin Jol’s side and, with an unfavourable run of opponents to come through till December, it’s uncertain whether they’ll be able to rectify this.

A trip to Sunderland seems unlikely to offer profit, while an Emirates visit, a home clash with Liverpool and the task of breaking down Swansea at the Liberty Stadium, then lie in wait. It’s difficult to see Bobby Zamora and his team-mates getting too much joy from those encounters and, with United at the Cottage in gameweek 17, Martin Jol looks set to face a difficult Christmas.

Be wary of…

Chelsea – three home clashes in four gameweeks appear to offer potential but Liverpool and City will both surely provide significant obstacles. With a trip to St James’ Park in gameweek 14, the home clash with Wolves appears to be by far the best opportunity for profits in a difficult month.

QPR – Fantasy managers clinging to QPR’s dubious Fantasy assets will have to suffer a trip to the Britannia in gameweek 12, with Liverpool and United also looming in gameweeks 15 and 16.

Man City – are Roberto Mancini’s side really fixture proof? The next month should tell us more. While most will expect City to end Newcastle’s unbeaten run this weekend, with Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal to come in the four gamweeks that follow, returns from City players may well slow going into December.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Great article as ever - shame you keep harping on about Rodwell and Drenthe though 😉

    First ever RMT here

    Given (Vorm)
    Kompany, Brown, Wilkinson (Enrique, Simpson)
    Walters, Brunt, Silva, Drenthe (Dyer)
    Van Persie, Rooney, Aguero

You think I should look at changing Agueroplane/Roonguns to Lamps/VDV (maybe ba/best/graham) for 4 pt. I like the range, but can't see Walters getting much more - he looks to be dropping deeper now?

My team for this GW. I have 1.0 in the bank and 1 freebie.
    Vorm

    BAE P.Jones Shawcross Richards

    Silva Bale N.Dyer

    RVP(C) Suarez Rooney

    Subs: Given,Tiote, Simpson, Ferguson

    I guess am not the only one frustrated with Suarez lack of returns. I am considering the following options which comes with a 4 points hit;
    1. Suarez and Tiote > Bendtner and Ramsey** Use extra cash 2 upgrade Fergie in the next GW to Brunt
    2. Suarez and Ferguson> Bendtner and Arteta
    3. Do nothing and not jump on the bendyman wagon and bank the freebie for next gameweek.

is it worth taking a 4 point hit to do aguer/rooney>rvp this week?
i would have done it but with ffs surprisingly counting the hits for the ffs qualifying round, i have been presented with another problem

i could just go in with a -4 score and rvp OR keep both aguero and rooney and start from 0

    which option shd it be?

Love the front 3 and the midfield but the whole thing is screaming "Needs more Spurs". Also I would play Vorm over Given this week.

    Maybe Aguero>Bendtner/Hoilett/Klasnic, Brunt>VDV for a 4 point hit?

666 - yeah, was a hot year - Simple captain rule that season - whoever was playing against Derby County got the armband 😉

Vorm likely to make more saves, but can see Swa getting hammered by ManU... I like spurs, also like Chelsea. But have slowly outed them as the only constant returns appear to be FFL and VDV - both could lull. Dunno - might leave it for 2FT next week. See how I get on as got loads of home players this week...

I'd defo ditch Mata. He'll score a bunch this week, or maybe next or maybe the next then dissapear. Will be great value next season I think. Classic new Spaniard to prem syndrome.

I've watched all the Everton games that Royston has played this season and along side Rodwell looks tasked with playmaking - but with more threat and assist options. Rodwell is cheaper though...

I do wish there'd been a bit more warning for the cup comp. It's left me in a quandary: my teams not where i'd like it to be:

    vorm (kenny)
    brown, enrique, walker (raylor rangel)
    drenthe, ramsey, silva, vdv (pilks)
    dzeko, rvp, adeb

I foolishly did suarez->dzeko this week. i'm considering:

    1) now: dzeko->bendy for a 4pt hit

    2) next: ramsey->o'hara (o'hara and pilks rotate nicely, and ramsey's off the boil)

    3) next: adeb -> rooney for a 4pt hit (assuming cleverley's back)

    What do you reckon?

Kompany has pretty poor fixtures from a defensive point of view, BAE and Walker will get you the odd assist/goal but Spurs dont keep clean sheets.
Enrique is good value and despite tough fixtures could easily grab some attacking points, Jones will be good for the next few.
Dont see the point of it all considering Drenthe, Ramsey, Sess, Larsson, Brunt, Rodwell, Eagles, Pilkington and probably others that I have missed offer good value in the midfield.
But...each to their own..good luck to you!

          Goalies - OK
Defence - Very solid, but too much money invested (People usually have 2, maybe 3 from that price-range)
Midfield - Very weak apart from VDV and Silva
          Forwards - Very solid

Downgrade your defence and upgrade Watson and either of Fox/R-C to the likes of Drenthe/Walters/Sessegnon/Ramsey.

Playing 5-2-3 ain't really suited for FPL, at least not this year 😉

i've thought alot about the mid-priced midfielder concept. And i'm simply not a fan. They often go long spells of 2's, and their performances are very form driven (at best you will get 3 good weeks in a 5 week span). This leads to drops in price if you hold them for a 3-4 weeks of non-performance. Additionally there are so many of them which leads to bandwagons everyweek. Its almost impossible to get them at the right time.

I guess my team concept is based on stability. Only using free transfers for injuries and suspensions and having a firm 11 that is fixture proof. Those Top 6 defenders will eventually get their clean sheets, that's why they are Top 6 in the first place. But that's just me. 🙂

I think yes. And I've moved him out for Silva this gameweek. Possibly foolish timing on my behalf, as Im beginning to think Silva will be rested. But having 9.5m of Nasri getting 20 mins in the last 2 GW's was just the last straw.

Being as you've already taken the price hit (which is what I moved him out to avoid), I'd consider sticking with him this week, but get rid as soon as you can after that.

Think I'm settled on Drenthe now to replace Petrov, he's got the form, fixtures and pace and can't afford Baines. Stoke's Walters is the other. Something about Sess though that juse doesn't appeal..Seb Larsson is my preferred Sun mid and he's banned this week.

yer im gonna take gamble on him too to replace Petrov. If Cahills on his way back too might give him more assist potential with another target up top.

Think its a good move Jonty. I have 2 frees this week and tempted to use one of them to get in Drenthe for Ramsey. You think thats worth it? Arsenal have great fixtures but I have RVP?

I'm giving Ramsey another week...but he is fast turning into the assister of the assisters...think Larsson, Walters, Drenthe, Ohara, Eagles all offer more for that price on current form.

Gibbs will always be suscpetible to injury therefore not the best fantasy pick.

It doesn't really matter to be honest. He's made of glass and will only play a couple of games at a time. Bad fantasy pick for a defender as you will end up wasting transfers in and out.

team linked. 1ft 0.3m in bank

In my case is it worth opting for rodwell over drenthe in place of cabaye?

Enables me to upgrade best to a 6m forward. Most likely next week as not sure many that range will justify a point hit

if all went well, you should receive an email with something like:

"Thanks for submitting your entry. Barring any issues with your submission, your team will now be entered in the qualifying round of the Fantasy Football Scout Cup"

Yeah I am looking to do the same and I have same keepers as you.

Looking at Howard, Westwood and Krul

Krul would be my choice but Newcastle have awful fixtures next 3. Westwood is good value but who knows how long he will keep his place. Howard is the safest bet but the most expensive.

yep exactly my thoughts so far. Howards great replacment but im trying to downgrade, might just take Krul anyway, Westwood I dont wanna use another transfer on a keeper for rest of the season hopefuly. Hard one.

          Exactly

You need to have 2 starting keepers and forget about them. I have in prev seasons gone for the bargain and then had to use transfers to ship him out when plan inevitably doesnt pay off!

Might play Given this week then swap with Krul next week as Swansea have better fixtures.

Moreira! westwood is the best choice, but then youll end up rotating them, and youll kick yourself in the a`` every other week couse the chosen one has score less then the benched one.. exactly the same what was happening with Given/Vorm, and since i had the same g`keepers, i decide to go with Vorms club substitute - Moreira. silly, but at least i dont think anymore of goalkeepers. If Vorm get suspended or short term injured, his substitute will be on the run! Good luck!
