While our players stretch sinews on international pitches, us Fanatsy managers have little option but to hope for the best and continue to make plans for the gameweek ahead. Business as usual, then – here’s our weekly examination of the fixture schedules with analysis of the strong and the weak…

The Strong

Everton

Four Goodison encounters in the next six gameweeks against highly beatable opposition gives Everton their most favourable run of the season. Wolves, Stoke, Norwich and Swansea all arrive on Merseyside, handing David Moyes every chance of orchestrating an ascent up the table.

In Fantasy terms, interest in Royston Drenthe and Leighton Baines is surely set to increase, particularly if they can produce the goods in the gameweek 12 clash with Wolves. Jack Rodwell, subject of a Talent article later this week, has also begun to deliver on his promise and presents an additional differential which could offer strong returns going into the Christmas programme.

Sunderland

Steve Bruce’s side have been typically inconsistent this season, struggling for goals without delivering clean sheets at the other end. The Black Cats’ defence stood up well at Old Trafford last time out however and, with John O’Shea likely to return to add further solidity, Bruce’s rearguard is worthy of attention.

Three home fixtures in four offers every chance of returns, with Fulham, Wigan and Blackburn all due at the Stadium of Light. A trip to Ewood Park in gameweek 14 could also offer profits. Nicklas Bendtner remains the headline act in attacking terms, with Seb Larsson (suspended this week) and Stephane Sessegnon presenting steady mid-price midfield options. Wes Brown, with a strong EA SPORTS PPI return so far, looks the best proposition in the back four, with keeper Kieren Westwood, also set to earn interest from those shedding Villa’s Shay Given.

Arsenal

It’s difficult to see a let-up in Robin Van Persie’s relentless rise to essential status, with home games with Fulham and Everton, coupled with trips to Norwich and Wigan to come in the next four gameweeks. Goals look guaranteed, while Arsene Wenger’s defence, with Thomas Vermaelen now reinstalled, has shown shoots of improvement that suggest that they could yet be worth consideration.

Things stiffen by the gameweek 16 trip to Man City but that’s followed by another batch of kind opponents, with QPR and Wolves due at the Emirates.

West Brom

Like Sunderland, the Baggies have suffered from an inconsistency that has, to this point, slowed Fantasy investment. Injuries to Shane Long and Peter Odemwingie has also reduced the appeal, while Chris Brunt has shown glimpses of form, but has been unable to sustain regular returns to compete with other midfielders in his price bracket. Surprisingly, it’s been West Brom’s defensive assets that have attracted recent interest, with Gareth McAuley, at 4.0 in the Fantasy Premier League game, providing a interesting budget option.

Things could change going into December however, with Odemwingie and Long recovering from injuries, while Brunt should be central to fortunes over a run that has them face Bolton, Spurs and Wigan at the Hawthorns in the next four. Trips to QPR and Blackburn are also on the horizon, presenting Roy Hodgson’s side with a decent run of opponents that could bring returns at both ends.

Also Consider…

Stoke – The comforts of the Britannia in front of their own bellowing support should offer Tony Pulis’ side the opportunity to recover from the 5-0 Reebok drubbing. Europa League fatigue will be a concern, but the back four and Jon Walters remain popular Fantasy targets with three of the next four at home.

Tottenham – Villa on Monday night is the first of three home matches in five gameweeks, with Bolton and Sunderland also due at the Lane. Away trips to West Brom and Stoke will provide stern tests, however.

Blackburn – Steve Kean’s men may not quite be ready for Fantasy investment – some would say that day will never come – however, from gameweek 14 things improve markedly. In the meantime, early adopters may take the plunge for away trips to Wigan and Stoke in the next two gameweeks.

The Weak

Aston Villa

A Monday night trip to the Lane under lights is just the start of a hideous run of games for Alex McLeish’s outfit. They follow this with a testing trip across the Welsh border to take on Swansea, with United, Liverpool and Arsenal then the next three opponents due at Villa Park.

While attacking assets such as Darren Bent and Gabby Agbonlahor may well be held during this testing spell, Shay Given and his defence will surely suffer significant Fantasy sales.

Newcastle

Alan Pardew’s men stumbled past Everton in unconvincing fashion to cement an unlikely league standing, but now embark on a run that will truly test their credentials. A gameweek 12 trip to City is followed by an Old Trafford visit and a home clash with Chelsea. Defensive returns over those three gameweeks perhaps seem dubious, with Ryan Taylor and Steven Taylor likely to require attacking points to reward their ownership.

In attacking terms, Demba Ba remains a popular target but will surely struggle to maintain his recent scoring rate – at least for the next couple of gameweeks.

Fulham

Consistency remains an issue for Martin Jol’s side and, with an unfavourable run of opponents to come through till December, it’s uncertain whether they’ll be able to rectify this.

A trip to Sunderland seems unlikely to offer profit, while an Emirates visit, a home clash with Liverpool and the task of breaking down Swansea at the Liberty Stadium, then lie in wait. It’s difficult to see Bobby Zamora and his team-mates getting too much joy from those encounters and, with United at the Cottage in gameweek 17, Martin Jol looks set to face a difficult Christmas.

Be wary of…

Chelsea – three home clashes in four gameweeks appear to offer potential but Liverpool and City will both surely provide significant obstacles. With a trip to St James’ Park in gameweek 14, the home clash with Wolves appears to be by far the best opportunity for profits in a difficult month.

QPR – Fantasy managers clinging to QPR’s dubious Fantasy assets will have to suffer a trip to the Britannia in gameweek 12, with Liverpool and United also looming in gameweeks 15 and 16.

Man City – are Roberto Mancini’s side really fixture proof? The next month should tell us more. While most will expect City to end Newcastle’s unbeaten run this weekend, with Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal to come in the four gamweeks that follow, returns from City players may well slow going into December.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I'm looking to downgrade Jones to Brown to finance buying Lamps. Good option for the next few GW's and beyond in my book. Need to look long term and not just next week when transferring defenders imo.

people on a bad run have a hobby of humiliating stoke, and then contuinue on their bad run.

sunderland: 4 games without a win, then beat stoke 4-0, then 1 win in 6
bolton: 1 win in 9, then beat stoke 5-0, then....

Captain's Poll for this week so far - Robin Van Persie (67%) Rafael Van der Vaart (5%) Sergio Aguero (4%) Wayne Rooney (4%) David Silva (4%) Royston Drenthe (3%) Looking like a one horse race for RVP, just hope he doesn't fall on the day 😯

It doesn't take a number cruncher (like myself) to know that if you own RVP, he's the best (C) pick.

If he does nothing, it was still the right choice, just unlucky.

        +1

When you weigh up form, ability, strength of opposition and likelihood of starting, it's got to be RvP. If he gets 2 points and Drenthe scores a hat-trick, RvP was still the best choice before the games.

Evertons awfull performance against Newcastle and failure to dominate what ended up as a makeshift midfield put me off signing any of their players for now. Gameweek 16 seems like the time to bring them in, good fixtures and a double gameweek on the horizon.

Don't know if this is news or what (if any) consequences it will have, but apparently Nicklas Bendtner & Daniel Agger got drunk and beat a man up this weekend. Bendtner is supposed to have kicked him twice, in the stomach and on his shoulder. Danish FA are deeply embarrassed.

Police don't seem to make too much of it tbh, so they should still be fine for our FPL teams.

Only the players they currently have in, If someone on a WC brings in the 15 top transfered in players it adds 1 to each of them. If they transfer out for someone else, it balances with a transfer out, so no nett gain. Gaining value with a WC requires a player to increase by .2 at least, if you intend to transfer out before the start of the GW. You then gain .1. All-in-all a lot of effort in a quiet period like this has turned out to be.

Regarding Baines I think the answer lies with Tim Cahill.

I'm pretty sure (but may be wrong) here that when Cahill played last season, Baines overall had higher scores - presumably because Cahill was heading in Baines' crosses.

With Cahill having 0 goals to his name so far this season, I'd put that down to being the main part as to why Baines isn't getting as many points.

If Cahill comes into some sort of form, that's when I think Baines will do better.

Didn't exactly pull up any trees with his man-management did he. RWC was an embarrassment. Also you forget that England have form of Winner - Runner Up, in previous two WC's. Also, having won the 6 nations, ahead of France, France managed to make the final...

England have not been the best team in the Northern Hemisphere since 2003. Strange things happen in knock-out competions as I'm sure you're aware: although coming runner up in 2007 you can't honestly believe they were the 2nd best team in the tournament can you? Likewise France this year. Unfair to compare Johnno's reign to 2003 as that was the best English team there's ever been.

I agree his man-management was poor. The lack of discipline took me by surprise as he is a scary man and a natural leader (perhaps the greatest ever captain?) as a player, so though the players wouldn't dare f**k about under his management.

He is a young coach and inexperienced to boot, but he definitely showed progress from his few years in charge. If he'd stayed for another 4 years until the next WC, I'm confident he'd continue to mature and of course you can't underestimate the value of continuity between players and coach.

Meh, what do I care, I don't really want to see England become World Beaters again! 😉 See you in 4 years for the same discussion after England meet everyones' expectations bar their own ridiculously inflated ones at the next WC, and their next coach is ejected after, yet another bout of national sporting soul searching.

Who are you looking for though? You don't have the players to compete with the Tri Nations consistently or beat France/Ireland/Wales consistently. Woodward was undeniably a great coach but that team in 2003 was unbelievable, a bunch of veterans that could've managed themselves pretty much.

I'll reiterate, the players you currently have cannot compete at the top. They're young though and have developed nicely, and if they continue on that trajectory they could become a great side with more experience. Letting Johnno continue his development of the side would be the best thing for the team imo, as again continuity is key in letting sides blossom.

I can imagine that England will try and get Jake White now, another great coach. But like Woodward, his WC winning squad was composed of veterans that had played with each other for years at club and country level (the majority of that team coming from the Blue Bulls). The SA team of 2007 could have pretty much run itself like England in 2003.

The new coach is going to come in and have to get to know the players from scratch, and probably change the squad a fair bit. Back to square one then...

Difficult to say really, Howard rotates well, but some say you don't want to rotate a keeper worth that much.

Cheaper options are Krul and Schwarzer. I would personally suck it up and get Howard, but I don't have either haha.

        from the ever reliable Wikipedia:

        "Togolese Ban

Togo were banned from the 2012 and 2013 Africa Cup of Nations tournaments by CAF after they withdrew from the 2010 tournament following a deadly attack on their team bus.

Togo appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, with FIFA president Sepp Blatter stepping in to mediate. The ban was subsequently lifted with immediate effect on 14 May 2010, after a meeting of the CAF Executive Committee. Togo were readmitted to the 2012 and 2013 tournaments, and (in the case of the 2012 qualifiers) added to the qualification stage."

Moses will come good. He has been a season keeper so far and i am going to keep faith for atleast the next 2 games. If he cant score against Blackburn & Sunderland he should be playing in the Championship.

What i mean is i have kept Moses all season so far in the hope you will do something worthwhile. nothing so far and if he cant get a goal against either Blackburn or Sunderland then moses should personbally be relegated to the Championship. so much promise so little return. having said that he is probably the most consistent 2 point scorer ever. 2 points every week with the exception of 3 in GW 3 against QPR. What a man.

Afternoon chaps. Looking to bring a defender in this week (not exciting, but necessary).

    Current back-line:

    Vorm Krul
    Jones Bos Warnock Ward Simpson

What looks like the best move?

Thinking of getting Wilko or Brown in, but for who?

Villa's next 8 fixtures tot swa MU bol LP ARSE sto che. 5 out of 8 away, 3 homes to MU LP ARSE. Yeeuchy! Still, Ward's not going to get much either. Much of a muchness between Warnock & Ward for me. Simpson's next 3 not pretty, your defence is...well, good luck! 😉
