Sergio Aguero comes off the bench to score for Argentina. Luis Suarez is rested for Uruguay. Nani grabs a goal in Portugal’s rout of Bosnia Herzegovina, while Nicklas Bendtner nets yet again for Denmark. Here’s a look at the main protagonists ahead of this weekend’s fixtures:

Good news for Fantasy owners of Sergio Aguero– he’s fit and in goalscoring form. Ahead of this weekend’s home clash with Newcastle, the Man City forward recovered sufficiently from a muscle strain to come off the bench and secure all three points for Argentina in Colombia last night. Although he faces a flight back from South America, Aguero has played just forty-five minutes of his country’s two games over the past week. Mario Balotelli and Edin Dzeko, on the other hand, have played 180 minutes apiece over the last few days and while Balotelli showed strong form in Italy’s win over Poland last Friday, Dzeko will be nursing a Euro 2012 hangover, after Bosnia were eliminated last night following a 6-2 thrashing in Portugal.

City skipper Vincent Kompany came through his second lot of 90 minutes last night in Belgium’s goalless draw with France but looks nailed-on, as always, to start this weekend. David Silva has been spared much of Spain’s game time over the past week- he was given 45 minutes against England on Saturday and came on as a 64th minutes sub last night, scoring in the 2-2 draw with Costa Rica. Like Aguero, he may face a long haul home but hasn’t been over-utilised by his country.

Joe Hart was subbed off at half-time last night against Sweden after playing the full game against Spain. James Milner came on for Jack Rodwell just before the hour mark last night and played 108 minutes over the two friendlies, while Adam Johnson, having featured for just 14 minutes against Spain, was an unused sub in the win over Sweden. Gareth Barry played the full 90 minutes last night and also came on just before the hour on Saturday against Spain, while Joleon Lescott was rested last night after starting against the World Cup winners at the weekend.

Nani grabbed a goal in Portugal’s demolition of Bosnia Herzegovina last night and was subbed off with just seven minutes left. The United winger also played the entire first leg last Friday and has had a frenetic last few days. Antonio Valencia played 90 minutes in both of Ecuador’s World Cup qualifiers and while this will help boost his fitness levels, has a lot more travelling on his hands before he arrives back at Old Trafford. Reports today suggest Ashley Young is on the mend from his recent toe problem and looks set to be included in the weekend squad for the trip to Swansea.

Phil Jones saw more game time than any England player this past week. He managed the full 90 minutes last night and also featured for 57 minutes against Spain, though United’s trip to the Liberty Stadium is an evening Saturday kick-off, giving him a few extra hours of recovery if necessary. Danny Welbeck will certainly be fresh, having featured for less than half an hour over the two internationals.

Steve Bruce will be delighted to have seen John O’Shea back in action. The full-back has recovered from a recent hamstring problem and played the full 90 minutes for the Republic of Ireland last night. O’Shea had limped out of the Black Cats gameweek 10 clash with Aston Villa due to the injury but, ahead of a strong run of fixtures, is set to return to the Sunderland first-team and bolster the back-line.

Nicklas Bendtner was amongst the goals yet again for Denmark last night. Having scored against Sweden last Friday, Bendtner helped his country clinch their second home friendly win on the trot, notching the winner in a 2-1 victory over Finland. With (FUL, WIG, wol, BLA) to come, he’s looking ripe for Fantasy investment. Seb Larsson played every minute of Sweden’s two games but can put his feet up this weekend- the midfielder is suspended for the home clash with Fulham.

Mick McCarthy watched three of his first-team start for Ireland against Estonia. Stephen Ward scored for the second game running as both he and Kevin Doyle played the full 90 minutes. Stephen Hunt was replaced just before the hour mark and will be the fresher of the trio, having played just over 15 minutes of the first leg. All three face a tricky trip to Goodison this weekend.

Having played 83 minutes of the first-leg, Jonathan Walters was given the night off for Ireland, much to Tony Pulis’ delight. The Stoke man was an unused sub, though team mate Glenn Whelan played the full match, to add to his 78 minutes from the 4-0 win on Friday. Walters’ firepower will surely be key this weekend, as Stoke –looking to bounce back from a run of three straight losses- host QPR. Asmir Begovic has played 180 minutes for Bosnia Herzegovina since Friday and will be looking for a pick-me-up after last night’s hammering in Portugal.

Emmanuel Adebayor’s
return to the Togo fold was an injury-free occasion, with the forward playing in a 1-0 win over Guinea-Bissau. Luka Modric played the full 90 minutes for the second game running as Croatia eased through to Euro 2012 with a goalless draw at home to Turkey. Vedran Corluka was suspended. Scott Parker was rested last night for England’s game with Sweden, though Kyle Walker played the full 90 minutes.

The USA’s 3-2 win on Slovakia last night saw Clint Dempsey play 90 minutes for the second game running. The Fulham midfielder hasn’t had too much travelling to do, though- the previous friendly, last Friday, was in France and he looks in good shape ahead of a trip to Sunderland. Damien Duff played 70+ minutes in both the Republic of Ireland’s games against Estonia, though has been something of a peripheral figure of late under Martin Jol. Moussa Dembele, who has been keeping Duff out of the Cottagers first-team, has been used relatively sparingly by Belgium over the last week. Dembele played just over an hour against France last night and featured for 24 minutes on Friday at home to Romania. Bobby Zamora’s 70 minutes run-out against Sweden last night shouldn’t be an issue ahead of the Black Cats showdown.

The news that Luis Suarez was rested by Uruguay for their trip to Italy last night must have been a welcome relief for Kenny Dalglish. Suarez, of course, scored all 4 goals in his side’s demolition of Chile last Friday but was subsequently subbed off with a sore back. Suarez had declared himself fir for selection but national boss Oscar Tabarez decided not to risk him ahead of Liverpool’s crucial trip to Chelsea this Sunday. Daniel Agger played 90 minutes for the second game in succession last night, even grabbing a goal for Denmark in the win over Finland. Glen Johnson sat out England’s win over Sweden after featuring against Spain, though Stewart Downing featured heavily- he played the entirety of last night’s game and came on as a half-time sub against Spain.

Gary Cahill, having been an unused sub against Spain, played the full 90 minutes at home to Sweden last night and is in good shape ahead of Bolton’s weekend trip to West Brom.

Fabio Capello also used Darren Bent sparingly, with a 20 minute sub appearance last night following on from his 64 minutes against Spain, the Villa forward should be fine for Monday’s trip to Spurs. Both Shay Given and Richard Dunne were crucial to the Republic of Ireland’s 5-1 aggregate win over Estonia and will have plenty of time to nurse their hangovers.

Wojciech Szczęsny was an unused sub in Poland’s 2-1 home win over Hungary last night. Having previously played in the 2-0 defeat to Italy on Friday, he was replaced by fellow Gunner Lukasz Fabianski between the sticks. Robin Van Persie was rested for Holland’s game with Germany and will be fit and raring to go this weekend as Arsenal take a trip to Carrow Road. Having previously sat out the 3-3 draw in Ukraine, Per Mertesacker returned to the Germany starting XI last night and played the full 90 minutes in a comfortable 3-0 stroll.

It was the same story with Arsenal’s other two first-choice centre-halves this past week, with each picked for just one of their respective nation’s two games. Thomas Vermaelen turned for Belgium in France last night having been an unused sub against Romania on Friday, while Laurent Koscielny missed out for Les Blues, having debuted for Laurent Blanc’s side last Friday against the USA. Theo Walcott started both games for England but was subbed off early in both, with the Gunners’ lunchtime kick off at Norwich perhaps in mind.

Alan Pardew will no doubt be thrilled by Yohan Cabaye’s return from injury. The midfielder took no part in France’s match with the USA last week but managed the full 90 minutes against Belgium last night and looks likely to bolster the Newcastle midfield this weekend as Pardew’s side take their unbeaten record to Man City.

Juan Mata started for Spain in Costa Rica last night but was subbed off in the second half with his country 2-0 down. In total, Mata has played 90 minutes over the last week, having came on as a sub for David Silva in last Saturday’s loss to England. Joining him in a long flight back to London is Fernando Torres– El Nino will be even fresher than his Chelsea team-mate, with a couple of late second-half sub appearances over the last week to his name. With Andre Villas-Boas’ side not playing till Sunday, though, the pair should have plenty time to recuperate, as will Petr Cech who played both games for the Czech Republic against Montenegro.

Fabio Capello has been kind to the Blues this past week- Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard only featured in the game against Spain last Saturday, with the latter getting less than an hour, grabbing the winner before being replaced by Gareth Barry. John Terry played only one game, against Sweden last night, while Daniel Sturridge will be fresh for the weekend, with just over half an hour’s game time under his belt over England’s two games.

David Moyes will be glad his two Toffees came through unscathed for Everton last night. With Phil Jagielka playing no part and returning to the club after Saturday’s game with Spain, Leighton Baines and Jack Rodwell both started against Sweden. Baines sailed through the 90 minutes while Rodwell was replaced just before the hour and played 91 minutes over both England games- plenty of time to recover for the weekend game with Wolves.

    Gentlemen...

I want to jump on the Drenthe ship. Thinking of doing it this weekend... Have to do Ramsey>Drenthe. I already have RVP, so Rams is not as essential yes? What do all you beautiful people think?

Errr what? Have you been watching Arsenal lately?

He's been very unlucky to score points but to say that he's not creating is a joke. If FPL still did the second assist he'd be top of the pops!

Very true...I'll keep him for now. Seems a more viable option than Drenthe anyway, that's why I brought Rams in and not Drenthe.

Hmmm...you definitely want Tiote out, and Moses lol...but I wouldn't transfer Suarez or VDV out. So I'm not a fan of expensive defenders and City have tough fixtures so why don't you downgrade Kompany for Brown and do Tiote>Drenthe? Would that work for you? I just wouldn't like Suarez or VDV out from my squad if I had them...

I would disagree completely. Even if Gordon is declared fit, he would still be a bit before being able to train, something he hasn't done for a long long time. So he's not going to be on the pitch any time soon. Westwood is nailed on, especially if he keeps good form, and when Migno gets healthy then we'll have a wildcard available and you can bring him back in if you'd like. Or transfer him in before then. Won't happen anytime soon though, he's out for a while it seems.

I think both Koscielny and Mertesacker will play and Vermaelen will be rested for Dortmund on Wednesday as he has been out for a while and played for Belgium yesterday. Wenger will want to protect him and a win against Dortmund will take us through and probably win the group, thereby avoiding Barcelona.

Have a few issues that need help this week guys!

    I've 1 freebie,

Who to get rid of from the following upper case players?...

    Schwarzer MIGNOLET

    Brown Enrique Kompany TaylorS WARNOCK

    Silva Vdv MOSES PETROV DYERn

    Rvp Gervinho SUAREZ

I don't mind taking a 4pt hit, and actually I think it's essential for me this week.

Considering: Westwood, Hibbert, Drenthe, Sess, Lennon (potentially massive differential) Saha, Hoilett, Bendtner

Gervinho OUT, Bendy in, Migno OUT, Westwood in...but I don't think keeper is your main priority, your midfield is very weak...I'd maybe try and get Drenthe or Eagles in before I would do anything with your keeper.

Why would I take Gervinho out away at norwich and then FUL, wig and EVE then? H'es gotten 5,5,15,5 in his last 4 games.. So definitely not a priority, and he's a great differential.

Agreed on my MF, very weak and always relying on VDV and Silva, need more than them. I was thinking about Eagles alright but his fixtures for the next month are sticky so I'll wait. Mig definitely has to come out next week as Schwarzer's fixtures are crazy tough.

Because you can free up cash by NOT having Gervinho. He is a potential differential but you've got ARs covered with RVP. If you downgrade Gervinho you have cash to splash somewhere else. Like, for example, your midfield.

Even if he doesn´t come good this GW, he will in short time be playing in a front role, and of course he still has important set-piece duties...and I´ll be waiting on them.... 😉

He has still gone close to scoring, sees a lot of the ball (2 bonus pts in the last game endorse this) and as a Man Utd penalty taker, it won't be long before he his taking one. That may not be enough to convince you, but I also think he will be back upfront and fixtures look good for him. Plus it's Wayne Rooney and he can rake in fantasy points and is a decent captaincy option.

I don't recall him having many goal chances lately? Fair enough about penos and frees, but you can't be relying on them, unlike Sinclair for Swansea who is half his price. I just think it's madness. I don't doubt his talent and potential but can't see him justifying that price anytime soon.

      Drenthe > Rodwell.

Being a lifelong Evertonian I can tell you there's no way Moyes will not let Rodwell roam as he did playing for England against Sweden. He'll make Fellaini and Rodwell sit in the middle and do bullshit sideway passing. Arteta is the prime example of that! He never had the licence to roam and was restricted and look him flourish now.

Also Rodwell's not as a good a finisher as Drenthe but he's an attacking threat from set-pieces which will most likely be taken by Drenthe.

I wouldn't touch our defence with a bargepole.

Baines looks half the player without Pienaar, Jagielka is playing with a broken toe and is only a matter of time before he's rested to let it heal fully. Distin can either be magnificent or shocking and let's not forget that we have Hibbert and Neville fighting for a right-back slot. Coleman would be the obvious choice there but there's no chance Moyes will have both Hibbert and Neville off the pitch!

And Heitinga who's just a nutcase.

    Given, Ruddy
    Kompany, Bosingwa, WIlkinson, Simpson, Boyata
    Mata, Silva, vDV, Moses, Dyer
    Sturridge, Suarez, RvP

    2 free transfers.

    Given > Howard
    Bosingwa > Brown

Only problem with doing those two as opposed to getting a 4.5 keeper in with McAuley is it only leaves me 10.8 when i get rid of Suarez instead of 12.3 allowing me to get Rooney back in. Any suggestions?

    I have a question.

If a ref sees a player dive into a tackle he believes is worthy of a booking, and realises after it that he can play advantage to the fouled team, and does so, only to see play stopped by a tackle from the same player he believes is a yellow again, can he give two yellows at the same time? Also, what if the second tackle is a straight red tackle? Also again, what if the first tackle is worthy of a straight red, can he even play advantage? What if he does and the same player commits another red card tackle, can he give two reds at once?

i don' t know the rules/laws but common sense imo:
red cards stop play regardless of whether there is an advantage. for the first part i don't think you'd get two yellow cards, but if the second tackles is worthy of a red card i'm sure the first tackle would then be trumped and forgotten and the player would get a red card. the referee signals when there is advantage and/or doesn't whistle so it's up to the players to follow suit

I asked a similar question the other day-we researched it and we could not find any incidence of two cards being issued in the same phase of play.

A referee at his discretion can continue play even if he would otherwise be sending a player off(I would suggest would be only to allow for advantage in what would quickly become a goal scoring opportunity).

the last sentence makes sense. e.g if the centre foward is through on goal, gets hacked down, but then his team mate then gets to the ball instead and scores. goal and red card instead of red card and free kick or penalty

an advantage after a red card tackle would see you playing 11 v 11 (even 10 v 11 not in your favour as a red card often leaves your player on the floor) so i think it makes sense to stop play there and then regardless of the situation

Walters is being played OOP at the minute and is on penalties. Those would be the only real reasons for getting him in. However, Drenthe is at the heart of Everton's attack, is on corners and free kicks. Plus his run of fixtures is great and he has a double game week in January. I don't like Walters as I think he's a pretty limited footballer, but Drenthe has the potential to explode in any game week.

Always hard to predict when Park will or won't play - often he plays in the hard away games for his workrate, and sometimes plays in the easier games to rest other players. Ashley Young is fit enough to be in the squad, I think, so he could well play on the left.

I think my team is too heavy in midfield. Therefore, I'm thinking of getting rid of Mata to someone like Sinclair, Sessegnon, Walters etc, I can then rebuild my team from there. One transfer at a time, strengthening defence and strikers. However, I can't help thinking there are more important issues to sort out rather than Mata. Really don't know what to do for the best this week, and could do with some advice. I've posted my team below:

    Vorm, Mignolet
    Wilkinson, Ward, Kompany, Simpson, Bosingwa
    VDV, Ramsey, Silva, Mata, Cleverley,
    Best, Rooney, Adebayor

I have 0.1 one in the bank and one free transfer, would be prepared to take a 4 pt hit if needed.

    As always, thanks in advance!

It is quite heavy in midfield. But you have quite a few decent captaincy options and that is the most important thing. I had Mata for a while, the week I sold him he exploded, typical. However, he's got a few home games coming up, so I'd maybe hold fire on that transfer. Why don't you downgrade Bosingwa to someone and upgrade Best to Bendtner/Saha/Hoilett/Sturridge?

Can anyone give me some advice for transfers this week?

    My current team is

    Given, Ruddy

    Bosingwa, Evans, Simpson, Wilkinson, Ward

    Brunt, Sinclair, Silva, VDV, Hoolahan

    Rooney, Van Persie, Agbonlahor.

1 FT, 0.5 in the bank, no WC.

Wanna get some Everton players in but at the same time I wanna ship out Evans Wilkinson Ward & Hoolahan & maybe Bosingwa. Trying to avoid points hits if I can.

I quite like your team except for; Evans, Bosingwa, Hoolahan.

I'd maybe think about getting in Jones/Kompany/Richards for Bosingwa before he falls in price.

Downgrade Evans to Macaulay, Turner or Brown

      Upgrade Hoolahan to Eagles/Clev?

      What do you think?

Yeh I'm doing alright with it, sitting in 42,000.

I'm a United fan so may opt for Bosingwa>Jones, although I'm never sure who Fergie is gonna pick, did Jones play against Sveden last night? I fell asleep.

I'm looking at Agbons knock though and thinking >Saha, I would get 6.9 for Agbonlahor.

Hoolahan has dropped in price too so may take a four point hit and transfer him out. Can't see Cleverly or Eagles ever being consistent points scorers though?

I ask this last night but got no proper answer.

If you are under 18 are you allowed to enter the Paddy Power Cup but not be eligible for prizes?

Not really, my parents and grandparents were Chelsea fans, I've been a Chelsea fan all my life and I've been going to Stamford Bridge since 1999, its a twenty minute drive from my house. So, being that I was a supporter pre-Abramovich I suppose you can't really call me a glory hunter. Also, as I've said before, my only bedsheets have been Chelsea ones my whole life. I know I'm of the age at which you'd find lots of Chelsea glory supporters but I dont think its fair to label me one, there were plenty of Chelsea fans years ago you know.

    whats the best tactic here:

Im playing 3 city players : silva yaya dzeko (home to newcastle)
Im also playing rooney (away to swansea)

    Keepers: Vorm / Krul

ive got Taylor R (newcastle) N Taylor (swansea) and i must play one of them.

So do i double up on Swansea (vorm and taylor) considering im so heavily invested in city and need them to score lots against newcastle... and so therefore i hope that swansea keep a cleanie again.. or do i cut my losses and play a newcastle defender and that way if city dont destroy newcastle at least i get some points.

(p.s. dont have any free transfers remaining, dont want to take a points hit)

    whats the best tactic here?

Yeah, I think I'm voting Enrique over Gabby too... QPR 20.4% clean sheet chance, LIV 17.9%.
but Enrique has a 5.8% chance of scoring and Gabby a 4.5% chance.

Thats not taking the assist potential into account...
