Daniel Sturridge has his heart set on a role through the centre. Robin Van Persie hails the effect of Theo Walcott on his goalscoring, Luis Suarez faces a FA charge and Connor Wickham is expected to be back far sooner than first anticipated:

Daniel Sturridge admits he is frustrated by his role out wide for both club and country. Sturridge was given a central role in Chelsea’s game at Blackburn but an injury to Florent Malouda saw the Frenchman replaced by Fernando Torres in the second half as Sturridge returned to his usual right flank position. With Andre Villas-Boas favouring a lone striker system, though, his best chance of a place in the first-team seems likely to be away from the middle but Sturridge is determined to stake his claim:

I just want to continue playing for Chelsea and from there I want to start playing as a striker, and then from there try and play for England as a striker. I want to stake my claim as a striker, that’s the position I want to play.. because that’s where I believe I am best.

Roy Hodgson spoke of his injury doubts ahead of West Brom’s home clash with Bolton this weekend. Peter Odemwingie, Shane Long and Paul Scharner are all ”long shots” according to the Baggies boss, meaning he could continue with the formation that saw him field Simon Cox as a lone front man with Zoltan Gera tucked in behind in the previous game at Arsenal. Good news for Hodgson is that Graham Dorrans looks set to be available for selection after he was sent home from the Scotland squad last week with an ankle problem.

Alan Pardew yesterday confirmed Sylvain Marveaux is out of the weekend trip to Man City. The winger was given his first start of the season last time round due to an injury to Gabriel Obertan but lasted less than an hour of the win against Everton after picking up a groin problem. Obertan is still a doubt for the game, though Shola Ameobi has returned to full training and will be included in the squad as Newcastle look to extend their unbeaten start to the season.

Connor Wickham is expected to be sidelined for just 4-6 weeks and could even be back before the end of the calendar year, according to Steve Bruce. Stretchered off after a couple of minutes in the previous gameweek at Man United, the Black Cats new summer signing was initially thought to be suffering from a long-term injury but Bruce explained that scans were far more positive than he had anticipated.

After a month long investigation, the FA have decided to charge Luis Suarez following the Patrice Evra race row. Reports suggest they feel they now have enough evidence to make a case against the Uruguayan, having studied the match footage as well as speaking to Evra and the match officials. Reports suggest that due to the seriousness of the situation, they could be ready to hand Suarez a minimum six match ban and slap him with a hefty fine due to the serious nature of the matter.

Liverpool’s official statement confirms the player will deny the charge and expect him to request a personal hearing with the FA, with the club firmly behind him on the matter. He would then be expected to learn his fate over the next few weeks by an independent tribunal.

Robin Van Persie has singled out Theo Walcott for his contribution to the Dutchman’s devastating goal scoring performances since the second half of last season. With 29 goals in 28 league games in 2011, Van Persie has been a Fantasy revelation and he admits the pair have an on-pitch understanding that brings out the best in him:

I know what he is going to do, which is very important. It’s vital to have a player around me, as a striker, who knows where I move, how I move, do I want the ball into feet, do I want it behind. He knows where to find me. Stuff like that is vital.

Steven Caulker is set to miss out this weekend as Swansea face up to Man United at the Liberty Stadium. The on-loan Spurs centre-half has been progressing well in his recovery from a knee injury that has seen him absent since gameweek four but according to Brendan Rodgers, is more likely to be ready for the following weekend’s trip to Aston Villa.

DJ Campbell could return to action within a month as he recovers from a fractured metatarsal. The QPR forward sustained the injury in a training ground accident and has been unavailable since the gameweek seven thrashing at Fulham. With Heidar Helguson making the most of his opportunity up front, with 3 goals and 2 assists in his last five games, and Jay Bothroyd netting in the last two, Campbell could have a fight on his hands getting back into Neil Warnock’s first-team plans.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Been awhile since I posted on the site. Coincides with an up-turn in my performance in FPL, not sure I should read anything into that!

I have 2 free transfers this week, and although there are a few players I could do with changing, at a loss for the first time in a long time as to what transfers to actually make, any kind suggestions? (No money in bank)

Bosingwa to Brown. Brown rotates with Simpson perfectly and it gives you cash to play with elsewhere. Bos may play but at 5.8-6.2 (depends when you got him) he isn't good value.

Then play Brown, Kompany, Enrique and save the transfer. De Laet can wait.

Your team is a good one. You can`t get VDV without losing Nani, SIlva or a major re-shuffle so time to tidy up your defence. Would deal with the most expensive first Bosingwa and save extra transfer so you have two going forward into next week.
Bosingwa out for Brown, Jagielka and Shawcross all look ok options.

Here's a mad one - Vermaelen and McCauley. Vermaelen is a good price, scores the odd goals and gets a few bonus points. Might get the odd clean sheet too! McCauley is cheap and gets his game.

I took the plunge and jumped on the bendy bus last night (at the expense of Suarez). Having taken a 4 point hit my team for this weekend looks like this:

    Begs
    Kompany Jones Enrique
    Ramsey Silva Adam VDV
    RVP Studge Bendtner

The Bendtner transfer leaves me with 3m in the bank, which gives me options for gw13. If Lamps doesn’t pick up a 5th yellow this gw I am looking to swap Adam out for him next week. If he does, then that money gives me alternative options up front.

Does that seem like a sensible strategy, and does my team look good to go for this gw?

I think I will....only because I want to get rid of Metrov first. Could take a hit to replace Bos, but I have S taylor on the bench to come in. He could get 2pt, so anyone I bring in would have to get 6pt to justify it....prefer to use my hit the next week and do bos and suarez out for a mega striker and a cheap def.

In conclusison bos starts for me...will probably get 1pt, or s taylor will come in for him and get roughly the same.

cheers, I get a by into the next round as a former champ which is good, so maybe should take some hits now.

As I found out when I won, the cup is all about luck and very little skill. Also, this one coincides with a traditional bad pt in the season for me...I usually do well the last two months of the season, when I won the last time. That's an easy time...only one rule - invest in Man Utd from March to May and sit back.

Replacing a 4.5M defender, and planning to get in Rooney/Aguero in nearest future, so really tempted by the budget options (Wilkinson/McAuley) though im not convinced about WBA defence and the rotation risk of Wilko.

My other option is going up abit in the price range and get BAE/ShawX. Have Begovic as Stoke defensive cover.

    WTD?

Im thinking of downgrading Given next week, so I could afford the BAE/ShawX range, just not convinced by Spurs defence either, and Stoke have been really poor lately though the Int Break should give them a boost. Only reason I'm asking is to beat the BAE price rise if I'm convinced he's the one 😉

Baines is on my radar but holding off for now. Everton have the fixtures, but if they fail to recapture form he is one expensive 2pt defender. I'm not a wildcarder b tw, but if I was I'd consider other options.

If you bought Sinclair for 6.0 million, keep him. He's a good player to have in your side as he's on penalties. However, Drenthe poses more of a threat due to the fact that he is more likely to score from open play.

DONT DO IT!!! Sinclair is a main threat, and capable of scoring heavy in one GW, and Drenthe is nothing but the talent who is running fast but dont know what to do with the ball. I remeber him even in feyenord squad, whole De Cuyp was laughing whenever he comes (usually from the bench on last 15-20 minutes) on the field! He get to play (and unexpectedly well) on U21 championship few years ago, afterwords he was sold to RealM, and there he gets what he deserved, a bench or not even in the protocol!!! same will happen in Everton, soon you all will be thinking how did he get so far in professional football!!!!

Why do some people think a 4 point hit has to be made up that very next GW?

If it costs you 4 points to take out a defender and the defender you removed gets 2 - that doesn't mean the player you bring in needs to get 6 to make the move worth it.

It's about whether those 4 points are made up over the season, not the very next GW, unless of course it's H2H.

I think some people take hits most weekends and want to make sure that the player they're bringing in will get them some immediate return. I avoid hits like the plague, however, I did have to take a 12 point hit a few weeks ago because of injuries and suspensions.

Anyone else worried surez head won't be in the game? They have two tough games followed by an easy run. He still dominates the stats and scored four goals in the international. Not worth taking out for a hit right? But definately out if he gets the 6 week ban. Replacement is the challenge - rooney if he picks up form and starts up front. Decko or adebyor, surely bendy and sturidge is too cheap up front. Aguero if this hearing takes a few weeks....

Bad thing for me is mata would have to go for the Rooney or Aguero options. Thoughts? Recommendations? Team linked
