An astonishing 2,216 fantasy football teams did battle last weekend, in an attempt to qualify for the first round proper of Fantasy Football Scout’s Paddy Power Cup V. With our four previous winners safely installed in next weeks opener, there were only 1,020 places up for grabs…

As expected, the standards were exceptionally high and an automatic qualification score of 62 was set. [Remember, this is after points spent on transfers are deducted.]

A total of 990 fantasy managers made that grade, meaning that the 108 managers stranded on 61 had to rely on their overall rank to fill the remaining 30 spots. The full list of results can be found right here.

Qualifying by the skin of his teeth is 45,465th in the world, woodpecker, who takes the 1,020th and final spot. In contrast, 45,750th in the world, don parcheesi, misses out by the narrowest of margins (a single transfer).

Commiserations to everyone who misses out – a list which includes all but five of the Scout Contributors.

The draw for Round One will be made shortly and will go live on the site at least 24-hours before the gameweek 13 deadline.

    Sorry guys repost from yesturday but looking for some views if u cud be so kind?

    What to do with Suarez now that he has dropped in price? Worth punting for Studge for 2 weeks? Or hold on and hope he converts v City. Change would allow an upgrade of Moses (I know) to Sess, & Sess plays this GW ahead of Dyer for a -4?

    Currently:
    Westwood (Vorm)

    Naylor Wilko Jones (Simp/JE)

    Dyer VDV Silva Nani (Moses)

    RVP Ade Suarez

    Thoughts greatly appreciated.

      I am asking the same question about Sturridge - could do really well v Wolves but then I don't see Chelsea getting much change out of Newcastle the week after.

        Thanks for the thoughts.

        Thinking that both Sess & Studge cud really explode this week (replacing Suarez & Dyer in current GW line up). Plan then to reshuffle in 2 weeks to hopefully upgrade Studge to a rampant Rooney..... Just can't decide....

        The trouble is I can see Liverpool and City being a +2.5 goals game but I have no confidence in Liverpool putting 2 decent performances together in a row, playing well at home and more particularly, Suarez outscoring either Ade or Sturridge this week.

          Exactly. Knowing my luck Suarez will probably finally get his double v City this week once I've parted ways, which wouldn't be a totally bad thing if the Reds can get up. The joys of this game I guess. Looks like another last minute decision.

    I know GW14 is not until after the next gw but I may have to start thinking about it sooner rather than later.

    I'd see RVP (v Wigan)/Aguero (v Norwich)/Ade (v Bolton) as the frontline everybody would aspire to that week. But I can't do it without a hit and would end up taking out Suarez this week and Little Pea next week. Sound fair enough?

    Is Sturridge worth a one-off punt this week instead of Ade?

      That looks to be the perfect lineup but would take a hit for me too, maybe not worth it for 1 week.

      Studge looks interesting for sure. Likely to start given he played 90mins today?

            No new cup-specific teams are allowed. We've mentioned it before in previous competitions (e.g. http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2011/01/26/fantasy-football-scout-members-paddy-power-cup/).

            In any case, it's at our discretion. Like I said, ThaKing should be grateful I didn't totally disqualify him for a duplicate entry.

      I automatically disqualified all teams created after the cup was announced, and duplicate teams are not permitted.

      Be grateful I gave your original GW1 team, which scored 50 points, a chance to qualify. On another day I may have disqualified you this (essentially cheating).

          No. Multiple entries means no single person can enter more one team. As soon as we charge a quid to enter you can enter as many as you like. Until then, play fair.

      Vorm for me, especially if you dont have a Swansea defender. If you do, Westwood is a good option.

      I'd rather do Wilko > Richards, although Citys fixtures are ugly. He will deliver the goods long-term. Santos is a decent short-term option, though.

              A few were, including me, but their CS record is far from impressive, I give you that.. They usually come good towards the end of the year, however, and I think they will do some cleanies up until New Years 😉

                They are definitely on the up, but I see Arsenal cleanies more likely for the few weeks, and Santos is more attacking than Jags overall, so worth the extra spend imo. I am worried by his place once Gibbbs is fit though. That probably wont be until the new year though.

                  My wife asked me about 'spicing things up a few weeks ago with a Brazilian'. So I agreed and bought Santos 😉

                  Seriously though, one thing to bear in mind is that with Gervinho gone to the African Cup of Nations tourney in January - probably part of February too - and Arshavin at best well out of form Arsenal could actually play Santos as a winger and still rotate with the talented but notoriously injury prone Gibbs at the back.

                  There is a reason Arsenal gave Santos number 11. It's because he spends most of the game in midfield 😉

    Narrowed it down slightly - which is best (2 freebies and 1.0m in the bank)?

    a) Dunne -> P Jones
    b) Dunne & Woody -> Verm & Naylor
    c) Dunne & Moses -> Verm & Ferguson (means I'll have 0.5m in the bank to do Woody -> Hibbert/Ward the following week (great fixtures and they rotate with Wilko/Woody far better than Naylor up to the Jan wildcard. Obviously means I'll only have 2 subs each week, but I've never had to use 3 so far this season...)

    Westwood, Ruddy
    Dunne, Wilko, Brown, Simpson, Woody

      I'm no Chelsea fan but that scenario you painted about Bos is entirely possible. AVB clearly has no faith in Alex so he's out of the equation. Ashley Cole is only 60% fit according to Twitter, so a shake-up maybe necessary anyway. But the fact you are asking the question means we are talking very short-term and there's a lot of uncertainty in it...

    Vorm (Krul)
    Brown, Kompany, Wilko (Enrique, Simpson)
    Dyer, Bale, VDV, Silver (Watson)
    Agbon, RVP, Suarez

    Who do you think needs changing the most?
    A. Suarez (possibly to Hoilett, Bendtner, maybe even Aguero)
    B. Watson (possibly to Pilkington, Allen. This would leave a tricky situation of who to bench from my front 8 this week)
    C. Save transfer for next week

    Boateng's goal, just awesome.

    Not sure about Valdes for both of Milan's goals.

    Suarez -> Van Persie
    Adam -> Drenthe (for a 4pt hit)

    should it be done tonight to avoid a price rise for RVP? any better options than Drenthe for a 6.2 midfielder?

      Sinclair, Sess or even O'Hara after his suspension.

        But I would go Drenthe too.

      Drenthe is the best imo. Do it now!

    One of the few times I think a hit is worth it. Drenthe or Sessegnon - tough call between the 2. Either way, do that trade tonight.

      Westwood for now and Santos, at least he is sure of starts for now, + good fixtures and attacking points threat.

      Wilko. Why have him in your team if you won't play him at home to Blackburn?

    Is Hibbert nailed on in the EVE defence? Considering getting him next week but worried he'll get benched when Distin is back?

      He does nothing in terms of attacking, so relying on Everton cleanies for any returns, so I would say no.
