A run of three favourable home fixtures over the next five gameweeks for Blackburn Rovers has lifted Yakubu up the rankings in our recently updated Watchlist. Having recovered from a knee injury that slowed his progress in mid-October, “The Yak” is now back and -judging by his display at the DW Stadium last weekend- getting fed, too.

With Everton anything but prolific in front of goal, a look at his scoring record since moving to Ewood Park questions David Moyes’ decision to allow the Nigerian to leave Merseyside. Yakubu has started six league games for Rovers and scored 5 goals, picking up 6 bonus points for his Fantasy owners along the way, too. The longest he’s endured without scoring is just two games, both tricky fixtures against Newcastle and Manchester City, with doubles against Arsenal and Wigan and a single away to Norwich.

Yakubu’s spot-kick duties undoubtedly help and at 5.5, he’s looking considerably better value for money than David Hoilett. The Canadian is classified as a 6.0 forward in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game but tends to be fielded mainly out wide by Steve Kean and despite playing every minute of Rovers’ season thus far, has returned 3 goals and 3 assists in comparison.

In a struggling team sitting second-bottom of the Premier League, Yakubu has averaged 5.4 points per game- this is better than the likes of Samir Nasri and Nani, who have both averaged 5.2, and is the ninth best tally for any forward so far this season, leaving players such as Daniel Sturridge (5.1) and Javier Hernandez (4.5) trailing in his wake.

With 27 goals conceded so far, it’s Rovers’ back-line that’s been their Achilles heel – Kean’s side have the second worst defensive record in the division but in terms of goals scored, have found the net the same number of times as Liverpool, scoring in every match on their travels to date.

Given their potential going forward, then, the next five gameweeks offer hope for more Blackburn goals. Showdowns with (sto, SWA, sun, WBA, BOL) should offer Yakubu further chance to improve his tally, regardless of how many points his side managed to muster.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

How does my team look for this week?

    Vorm
    McAuley Brown Wilkinson
    Walters VDV(v) Silva Nani
    RVP(c) Sturridge Suarez

    Bench: Given Moses Evans Simpson
    Bank: 1.5m

Regarding RVP here are Arsenal's upcoming fixtures...

    26/11: FULHAM
    29/11: CITY (Carling Cup)
    3/12: Wigan
    6/12: Olympiakos
    10/12: EVERTON
    18/12: Man City
    21/12: Villa
    26/12: WOLVES
    31/12: QPR

Looking at the above, I expect RVP to be benched for the Carling Cup game at home to City and the away game to Olympiakos, as they've already finished top of their group.

This would mean he'd have about a week's rest between the following games: FULHAM Wigan EVERTON City

I can't see him being 'rested' for any of the next 4 Premier League games, but I can see him starting on the bench for at least one of the Villa, WOLVES, QPR games later in December.

I don't care so much if he's benched nowdays. The last 2 occassions he has been benched in the EPL he's been brought on as a super-sub for 20 mins to tie up the game and still managed to grab a couple of goals. Long live RVP's unshattered legs!!

Odd this cup stuff. I'm now reticent about giving away too much information about my team actions this week.

Don't know who Sir Bobby Evans is, but it's going to be a close contest as we share 7 players: the same front three and 2 mids, a def an goalie. So, it's going to be decided on our defence:

him: kompany, lescott, warnock, simpson, enrique
me: brown, walker, raylor, rangel, enrique

He has two citeh defenders, so here's hoping that liverpool nail there donkeys to the wall. And that moses keeps up the good work.

And the question: which two to bench? both teams, if you will.

Summary points from the press conf..

"Vida back of course, Smalling fit is a boost, Rafa also back. Defensive part is OK."

"Anderson not fit til February, gone to see specialist in Portugal re knee, we didn't expect that, it's a blow."

"Cleverley is the other midfielder out for a while now. But we're not as bad as people think we are in midfield with the experience of Giggs, Carrick and Fletcher, and if we get Cleverley back for Christmas, that'll be a bonus."

Could be more midfield time for Rooney for some games

    Lost on last post:

I have had a strange epiphany

I sold Moses for 4.7M with a loss of 0.3M.
If his price drops to 4.4M and I buy him back, do I regain the money I lost?

Not an Epiphany I'm afraid Ryan. That's a breakdown. Perhaps this will help. 🙂

Once you've wasted half anhour reading that. Once your player is out it's lost. Buy in at new price .

      Have a good weekend.

    DANIEL STURRIDGE FTW.....

Just did Suarez out Daniel in.... Im fed up of him playing SO WELL and being SO GOOD!!!

Sturridge is the saviour of Chelski and the Saviour of Luigi United.

    Still, RVP Captain

i think the real question is whether he will be playing midfield or pushed up front.

I think given his position moving him out was probably a good move anyway.

if its done with that in mind fair enough (wouldve held on this week myself but can see the logic)

i just mean the thousands who got rid early in the week because of his yellow flag

The whole year seems to have been like that Tosey. Player's top scores coming on the back of numerous transfers out. No patience around this year.

    Vorm / Kenny
Enrique / Simpson / Wilko / Naylor / De Laet
    Silva / VDV / Bale / Nani / Dyer
    Ade / RVP / Sturridge

1.8m in the bank, 1 free transfer. Any thoughts? Fixing the De Laet problem seems a waste of a transfer to me, more than happy to wait until the Jan wildcard. Itching to do Silva / Nani > Lamps, but think both could backfire spectacularly… just worried Chelsea will destroy Wolves.

I've done Nani to Lampard. Fed up with the greasy little git. Lamps history is phenominal and looks like continuing.

Bugger, drawn against someone 5,120 in the world, and 11th in FFS league. My god do I need Silva to start this weekend, VDV to pull a hamstring and Sess & Waltsn to get their scoring boots on.

Ok, he did get Boswinga and Evans red cards....

I like this positive attitude... prepare to meet thy doom Goliath (Sound of scrambling for pebble ensues, Goliath enters stage right, sound of elastic stretching, lights go down).

Yes, its one of my reaccuring dreams/nightmares. Every night, when I go to sleep, I can still here the stretching of elastic bands, their torment, and then the silence. the horrible, horrible silence. The silence of the bands.

thats all revealed in the sequal, David vs Goliath II: The Deadening. Its an 18 though and still in scripiting. I have been approached by Time Warner about David vs Goliath III: The Undeadening, which is due to star Brad Pitt. Orlando Bloom plays a tree in it.

Unthinkable until recently but would anyone recommend dropping Silva for anyone on my bench:
    - Enrique(MCI) N.Taylor(AVL) Dyer(AVL)

I have no other ManC cover but they'r away to Liverpool and I don't want another 1 pointer.

Hmm... its a toughy isn't it. I would keep him in, but defo play taylor infront of Wilko (-9 goals in last two games, or a swansea team that keep cleanies at home vs a Villa team that don't travel well)
