While the footballing community rightly reels from the frankly unfathomable and tragic news of Gary Speed’s passing, the Dugout Discussion opens in more solemn tones in shock at this news…

Our first of two fixtures today is in Wales where, rather perversely now, Speed had been seeming to build a bright future for football in his home country. Whether many of the Welsh players (on both sides) are in the right mind is hard to tell but the fixture of Swansea vs Aston Villa will go ahead as planned. Teams in full are…

Swansea XI: Vorm; Rangel, Monk, Williams, Taylor; Britton, Allen, Gower, Dyer, Sinclair; Graham

Villa XI: Given; Hutton, Collins, Dunne, Warnock; Herd, Delph; N’Zogbia, Heskey, Agbonlahor; Bent.

The Premier League weekend will then finish with the big fixture of the weekend as Kenny Dalglish’s Moneyball squad come up against the Nouveau riches of Manchester City.

RIP Gary Speed.

Tell me a bit about this Marco Reus chap PB, is he the main reason for Gladbach's success and just how good is he?

Yes, Reus is very good indeed. Fast, strong dribbler, very calm on the ball, two-footed but likes to cut inside. He can finish too - here's his hat-trick in the 5-0 victory against Werder Bremen last week.

        http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zL0WrEFePk8

He broke his toe on Friday in the 3-0 victory over local rivals 1.FC Cologne, mind you, so no-one's sure if he'll play in Gladbach's next match and there have been fitness issues in the past. He's been watched by Arsenal, Man City, Juventus and Inter, but Bayern are the favourites to sign him for a fixed €17 million transfer.

Villa's corners are very low, you'd think they'd want to make the most of their height advantage with high crosses, Mcleish's tactics confuse me quite often.

    Are these crazy moves?

Mata > Bale - Mata has tougher fixtures
Aguero > Rooney - After Norwich game, Rooney then has amazing fixtures and will surely be involved, rotation proof over xmas period, main rival has just sold and will struggle to get him back in. Only downside is he may play centre mid with lack of options currently available!

redknapp's done a tremendous job at the lane.the money received from the sales has been invested brilliantly. as for villa, they suddenly just turned into a club in need of some serious money after that 08-09 season

as an arsenal fan, i have some sympathy for the villans. we have been like the "warehouse" for manc too.

Why they aren't playing Bannan, Albrighton etc - great, exciting young players but still playing the likes of Heskey...
Should be solid defensively with Given, Collins, Dunne, Hutton, Warnock but a couple are growing old and do they have back up in those areas?

        I'd say they'd finish 8th, but now probably 10th.
