Arsene Wenger admits of “red alert” worries over certain players’ fitness. Zoltan Gera picks up a serious knee injury against Spurs, while Blackburn could welcome back their captain for next weekend’s game against Swansea.

Arsene Wenger has warned of fitness and fatigue issues amongst his Arsenal squad after their below-par performance against Fulham at the weekend. The Gunners boss feels he may have pushed some of his players too far over the last few weeks and looks likely to give many the night off against Man City in Tuesday’s Carling Cup tie. With Robin Van Persie amongst those mentioned, Fantasy managers will be hoping the Arsenal skipper is excluded from tomorrow night’s action ahead of a trip to Wigan that will surely prompt many to hand him the armband:

We have to consider the injuries we have. We have red alerts on a few players. We have a few players on the edge like van Persie, of course, and Walcott, who had a hamstring alert and Ramsey as well. We’ll see how they respond to 24 hours’ rest. Walcott’s hamstring was picked up during the game but he should be OK. At half-time they said he’s all right.

West Brom confirmed earlier today that Zoltan Gera will be sidelined for the foreseeable future after picking up a serious knee injury at the weekend. The Hungarian had only just recovered from injury and made a return to the first-team in gameweek eleven, with Roy Hodgson accommodating him behind a lone front man in a 4-4-1-1. Gera will receive further scans this week to reveal the extent of the problem, with the likes of Peter Odemwingie and Simon Cox likely to see an upturn in game time alongside Shane Long up front as a result of his absence.

Roberto Mancini is expected to make wholesale changes for Man City’s Carling Cup clash with Arsenal tomorrow. The game, just over forty-eight hours after their draw at Anfield, could see Owen Hargreaves set to return, though Gareth Barry and Mario Balotelli will be unavailable due to suspension. Barry picked up his fifth yellow card of the season at Anfield yesterday, while Balotelli’s two yellows and subsequent dismissal means he misses the Gunners clash. Both will be available for the home game with Norwich next weekend.

Reports suggest both Michel Salgado could recover from a hamstring injury in time for Blackburn’s Carling Cup trip to Cardiff. Steve Kean welcomes back David Dunn, after the midfielder served a one match suspension against Stoke at the weekend. Kean admitted he expects Chris Samba and Martin Olsson to be available for Rovers’ crucial home clash with Swansea at the weekend. The pair have missed the last two games with hamstring problems, with the club slipping back to the bottom of the table.

John Terry will miss Chelsea’s Carling Cup match with Liverpool tomorrow after picking up his fifth booking of the season in Saturday’s game against Wolves. The Blues skipper was yellow-carded for his continued hesitancy in taking a throw-in, though Andre Villas-Boas moved to deny suggestions it was deliberate ploy to ensure Terry’s availability for the weekend league trip to Newcastle. Frank Lampard will play tomorrow night, after being rested for the Wolves game- he was also sitting on four yellows prior to the 3-0 win.

Alan Pardew faces a selection dilemma ahead of the Chelsea game, after Jonas Gutierrez’s dismissal at Old Trafford on Saturday. The Argentine will serve an automatic one-match suspension.

Mick McCarthy will have to do without the services of Karl Henry against Sunderland this weekend. Big Mick welcomes back Jamie O’Hara and Stephen Hunt from suspension but Henry picked up his fifth booking of the season at Chelsea, meaning he will serve a one-match ban and sit out the crucial home clash.

I'm sure I'll chicken out before Saturday but currently have Dzeko captain in the hope that Mancini tries teaching Balo a lesson by leaving him out for a couple of games and either starts both Dzeko and Aguero (preferably) or Dzeko on his own for a fairly simple fixture.

Balo will be banned for tomorrows game so I would be surprised if he was benched at the weekend where City have a must win UCL game next week, I think Balo will play with Dzeko at the weekend though, so it should pay off, much depends on who starts tomorrow night though.

Teach a lesson for what exactly? I know Balo isn't a saint, but yesterday he got two yellows for fouls that should've barely been freekicks.

True but Aguero has quite tough fixtures, is rotation risk (plus I have silva), and I already have ryan taylor so don't need steven really.

Double gameweek is quite far off, but even until then Spurs have great fixtures and these 3 are guaranteed starters every week, not to mention that their price will rise!

My frontline is great atm, ade, rvp and ba, so I'm not too keen to change that to get rooney in for gw15.
My possibilites are to get baines and go without united cover or get nani/young for united cover and take consolation price called hibbert with him.

Which one you think is better?

Man U will explode soon judging by their performance Vs Newcastle... got to see what happens at Villa game first...

however, if you bring in Rooney - you will likely have to drop RVP? No? Arsenal have home game too that week vs Everton who they normally do well against...

I've got money in the bank, so could do straight swap ade to rooney, but that seems pointless atm. Tried hard to get roo, rvp and adebayor for my front three, but that just wasn't possible.
Altough if vdv is out for a while, that changes things of course.
But that rvp to rooney is also out of the question unless there's injury..

you cannot drop ba - dirt cheap... a real diamond in the rough... regardless of the form Newcastle are in - he will always score. He's a match winner

Agreed - pointless doing RVP > Rooney

S8 swap with Ade could be useful - Ade will have ups and downs... timing is key

I don't believe in the concept of having 'cover' from one team. It's about having the right players from the right teams. For example there was no merit last week in having Drogba, Nani or Aguero as 'cover' for their respective teams.

totally disagree. if you had those players you would be unlucky, also a bit daft given Drogba is a huge rotation risk. You could also argue that if you had Mata Hernandez then there is great merit to it!

basically, having players from the top teams as cover makes sense, espec if the fixtures make sense. i.e. City cover last week was not essential but will be next week.

Barfa will very likely struggle to keep a place when Leon Best is back.

      Larsson over Drenthe by far.

I also think you do indeed need VDV, and I don't think Bale covers it.

Love the defense, and the keeper combo, really.

Pilkington 3 away games, and Home to NU, and Spurs so don't see much there

Dyer/Allen seem better, easier Home fixtures, but still 3 Away in next 5

I would put Pilks like that... he did well away to Liverpool, and Villa... almost fixture proof I would say...

anyway... Dyer/Allen are cheaper so probably more attractive in the overall sense with the fixtures as you mentioned.

Just had a look at the league leader and he's only done 7 transfers all season.
I look at Bale for first 9 weeks and think I have to get rid and he just leaves him there until he comes good.
I wish I had the patience and the trust in myself.

Hmm wildcard in a few weeks 🙂

I think so. We would need to know if there is trend towards teams with less transfers finishing higher up. Even then, as pointed out today's Dilbert, correlation does not imply causation. If someone is good at this game, they will start with a better team and need less transfers. They finished higher because they were better at the game.

I do think that people are far too willing to drop 4 points on transfers though. A guy who was top in one of my mini-leagues did 5 (-16 points!!), he's now 3rd, lol.
