Arsene Wenger admits of “red alert” worries over certain players’ fitness. Zoltan Gera picks up a serious knee injury against Spurs, while Blackburn could welcome back their captain for next weekend’s game against Swansea.

Arsene Wenger has warned of fitness and fatigue issues amongst his Arsenal squad after their below-par performance against Fulham at the weekend. The Gunners boss feels he may have pushed some of his players too far over the last few weeks and looks likely to give many the night off against Man City in Tuesday’s Carling Cup tie. With Robin Van Persie amongst those mentioned, Fantasy managers will be hoping the Arsenal skipper is excluded from tomorrow night’s action ahead of a trip to Wigan that will surely prompt many to hand him the armband:

We have to consider the injuries we have. We have red alerts on a few players. We have a few players on the edge like van Persie, of course, and Walcott, who had a hamstring alert and Ramsey as well. We’ll see how they respond to 24 hours’ rest. Walcott’s hamstring was picked up during the game but he should be OK. At half-time they said he’s all right.

West Brom confirmed earlier today that Zoltan Gera will be sidelined for the foreseeable future after picking up a serious knee injury at the weekend. The Hungarian had only just recovered from injury and made a return to the first-team in gameweek eleven, with Roy Hodgson accommodating him behind a lone front man in a 4-4-1-1. Gera will receive further scans this week to reveal the extent of the problem, with the likes of Peter Odemwingie and Simon Cox likely to see an upturn in game time alongside Shane Long up front as a result of his absence.

Roberto Mancini is expected to make wholesale changes for Man City’s Carling Cup clash with Arsenal tomorrow. The game, just over forty-eight hours after their draw at Anfield, could see Owen Hargreaves set to return, though Gareth Barry and Mario Balotelli will be unavailable due to suspension. Barry picked up his fifth yellow card of the season at Anfield yesterday, while Balotelli’s two yellows and subsequent dismissal means he misses the Gunners clash. Both will be available for the home game with Norwich next weekend.

Reports suggest both Michel Salgado could recover from a hamstring injury in time for Blackburn’s Carling Cup trip to Cardiff. Steve Kean welcomes back David Dunn, after the midfielder served a one match suspension against Stoke at the weekend. Kean admitted he expects Chris Samba and Martin Olsson to be available for Rovers’ crucial home clash with Swansea at the weekend. The pair have missed the last two games with hamstring problems, with the club slipping back to the bottom of the table.

John Terry will miss Chelsea’s Carling Cup match with Liverpool tomorrow after picking up his fifth booking of the season in Saturday’s game against Wolves. The Blues skipper was yellow-carded for his continued hesitancy in taking a throw-in, though Andre Villas-Boas moved to deny suggestions it was deliberate ploy to ensure Terry’s availability for the weekend league trip to Newcastle. Frank Lampard will play tomorrow night, after being rested for the Wolves game- he was also sitting on four yellows prior to the 3-0 win.

Alan Pardew faces a selection dilemma ahead of the Chelsea game, after Jonas Gutierrez’s dismissal at Old Trafford on Saturday. The Argentine will serve an automatic one-match suspension.

Mick McCarthy will have to do without the services of Karl Henry against Sunderland this weekend. Big Mick welcomes back Jamie O’Hara and Stephen Hunt from suspension but Henry picked up his fifth booking of the season at Chelsea, meaning he will serve a one-match ban and sit out the crucial home clash.

I really wanna get Baines in soon, if not now then after the Arsenal game..

Is Jones and Drenthe > Baines and Moses worth it, or bad transfers? :/

Jumping the gun on Drenthe really aren't you? You couldn't have had him that long yet, Drenthe OUT Moses IN would have not been an option had he not gotten a lucky assist for a penalty at the weekend, so I would not do that move.

Jones is going to play 3/4 for United, so I would say that is a bad move too.

That being said, if you really have to have Baines, looking at your team, there isn't really another route, unless you downgrade Rooney to Hernandez to fund a move later in the month.

I don't think it's bad. Moses is not the worst player to pick up for the bench now. He's cheap and plays every week in an attacking postion.
Drenthe didn't play last week so why hold onto a player who may be injured wondering if he'll play each week.

i like it overall, strong defence and mids, larsson a good pick over next few fixtures, ba still a great differential imo, its good. im slightly worried about choosing hernandez over Ba still, also feel i should get rid of jones and shove either verm or kompany in there.
i'm posting my team up below in a sec 🙂

He had some brilliant moments against City and if he can get 4 goals in a south american WC qualifyer he can probably get 6 in an EPL game

Yeah it's a good idea but I've just brought baines in I'm keeping Enrique and to upgrade anyone else would need to involve a hit by downgrading elsewhere. One city defender is fine against any team so you can easily take one of them out over the next couple of weeks.

Unfortunately with Man City Mancini doesn't see to have a clue what he's doing with his team so you'll never know who will play. I seriously think he names the team by drawing players names out a hat each week.

They're all so good that it doesn't matter who plays they'll win anyway

Also, i feel Jones may be a risk now coming into the next few fixtures, get rid of Jones, or Enrique for Vermaelen or Kompany/Richards? Worth it? I'm a consistent 40 odd points behind my mini league leader, need something to spice my score up!

Torres is in a rut and needs to go, he makes me angry, get rid of him for sure but I would defo look at Chico he is the one bringing home the bacon for Manu at the moment. Looks dead cert to play every game and scores at least one a game. I went for Ba cause I didn't have the money for chico but he is defo worth it, see all the goals coming through him ATM and Manu have got gd fixtures.

However I really wouldn't get rid of jones he will come good for you, he just needed a rest and I think he will be playing most pl games from now on for sure. He is there quality on form defender and will be getting the cs points for sure.

Surely the chico will make a gd difference to climb up the ranks. Btw I'm number 1 in my leagues now 😉

haha no probs. Yep totally agree, Torres is purely out of favour to sturridge now anyway and cant ever see him starting a game from the off, cant believe how many points ive thrown away for him!! jesus, could of been doing so much better, never, ever again am i even thinking of getting that waste of space again lol.

Chico it is then, i was gonna bring him in last week for torres! why didn't i! haha, its already a done deal now then. Yeah i was thinking that Jones just needed a rest and could be worth hanging onto, but i really do need some sort of attack from a defender, and enrique seems to be consistent, but doesn't seem to be grabbing anything of late, patience may be a key factor here though. City defenders may not be the way to go also after this gw, face arsenal and chelsea.

Haha! no way man, hats off to you! must be a great feeling that, certainly deserve it 🙂

Yea such a waste of space mate it's unreal. Happy you are getting rid, gonna get you so many points now in comparison. You must have a broken heart now over your love for him.

Ye defo have some patience wit your defenders everything will start coming together now. You will have a solid team with chico in it.

Keep an eye on Ramsey, his return hasn't been great, might be due to tiredness but you might be able to fix that with a quick easy transfer.

haha broken heart indeed, its just i have a very strong respect for him, but this may now be looking back on him, as to what he is now, cannot live in the past anymore, out with old in with the new, just hope he doesn't hit some form as soon as i get rid of him now lol, if that happens i swear to god he's AVB is recieving a letter haha!

yeah im gonna stick with the defence this week then ireckon, jones will play so that means all my defenders are playing then. chico will defo bolster my team hugely.

yeah ramsey just needs to be monitored closely this week, if he shows promise without point return he just may still be worth having, but its points that count and would be easier to ship than hope he returns anything. cool ,thats sorted then, i may even transfer chico in now then, no ppoint in holding on and if his price rises is there 🙂

AVB is not gonna other with him until he shows some form. Wouldn't worry to much just don't see him doing much before Xmas.

Ur defence will be great for this weekend mate hopefully some cleanies there.

I took Ramsey out for larsson hoping to get some more points off him, and hopefully make more cash too.

Yeah, he definitely aint gonna produce anything before christmas, maybe an assist at most, totally not even worth keeping if he scores a few as they will be sporadic, no plethora of goals for him thats for sure.

Yeah i'm liking my defence, got a strong feeling fulham and pool will be a draw this weekend as well, may even have a bet on that .

Lrsson was a good move imo, he scored didnt he? i was looking at him on friday night, but resisted at last minute as i saw wigan followed this GW.

My niggling worry is about VDV, as some people say below questioning his fitness and availability for this weekend, man i hope he plays, so, so hope so. 🙂

Also also also I would also keep an eye on Ramsey, I think it is worth keeping him for the next game but if he doesn't do anything I would change him for someone getting more points per week.

Maybe would be nice to have a sub keeper too 🙂
Think it's 8.5 out of 10 due to ferguson 🙁

Yeah am doing exactly that with ramsey, keeping for the wigan game and then he's off if nothing comes from him in that game.

i have a sub keeper? lol im confused there soz man, you mean westwood? lol.
Yeah ferguson is only gonna be there for another week or two till i get my team to peak happiness haha.

Excuse me if it's been asked a lot before, but is there any update to VDV's injury status?

He's likely to drop again soon and I'm resisting any VDV->Bale move, as I think VDV is the better long-term fantasy prospect. If he's likely to play next GW, I'll keep him regardless of how many price drops this week, but will get Bale in, if he's likely to be out a while.

    This week I have

2 everton players vs 2 stoke ( although benching shawcross but he will play if vdv is out)
    2 sun vs 1 wolves
3 spurs vs 0 Bolton (2 if vdv doesn't play)

    Plus silva / rvp

Oh dear bit of a mess

Sat on my hands for a 2FT GW.

    Planning:
    Williams > Baines
    Arteta > Reo-Coker/Surman

Then Sess > Ben Arfa (either this week for 4pts), or next week for free.

Essentially I prefer Baines to Arteta.
