Angel Rangel is out for a month with an ankle problem. Lucas is set for scans on his injured knee, an injury to Roman Pavlyuchenko limits Spurs’ up front Europa League options and Robin Van Persie gets the night off as Arsenal slip out the Carling Cup.

Swansea have confirmed their right-back Angel Rangel is set to be sidelined for a month. The Spaniard was taken off before the half hour mark in Sunday’s draw with Aston Villa and it has now been confirmed he has suffered ankle ligament damage. Jazz Richards is expected to deputise in his absence but Rangel, who had previously played every minute of the season, is an integral part of how Brendan Rodgers’ side play and his loss will be a huge blow to the Welsh side. Richards is classified as a 4.4 midfielder in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), with left-back Neil Taylor, at 4.2, the best long-term bet for those eyeing up a replacement in the Welsh sides’ back-line.

Kenny Dalglish revealed Lucas is set for scans after being stretchered off at Stamford Bridge last night. The Brazilian let the field after seventy minutes of Liverpool’s 2-0 win, following a challenge by the home side’s Ryan Bertrand and his manager was unsure of the severity of the problem.

He’s damaged his knee. We don’t know what it is. We’ll get him looked at and take it from there. We don’t know what it is so rather than speculate we are best waiting until we get the proper diagnosis tomorrow or the next day and we’ll let everybody know in due course. He needs to get it scanned.

Josh McEachran will undergo scans today after picking up an ankle knock in the Stamford Bridge defeat. Having played just eight minutes of league action this term, he was handed a rare start by Andre Villas-Boas as the Blues boss trialled a midfield diamond, but McEachran’s night was cut short with the problem and he left the ground wearing a protective boot on his left foot.

Blackburn’s Steven Nzonzi has accepted the FA’s charge of violent conduct after an off-the-ball incident with Stoke’s Ryan Shawcross last Saturday. The midfielder will serve a three-match ban, which covers last night’s Carling Cup defeat at Cardiff and the league matches with Swansea and Sunderland. Nzonzi will be available for Rovers’ gameweek 16 clash with West Brom on the 17th December.

Arsene Wenger gave Robin Van Persie’s Fantasy managers a boost last night. The Dutchman, along with the likes of Theo Walcott and Aaron Ramsey, was left out of Arsenal’s Carling Cup squad for the game against Man City- it was noticeable that those three were the players Wenger cited as being fatigued earlier in the week. With the Gunners having already won their Champions League group, their game against Olympiacos next week is something of a formality and it’s conceivable any one, or all three, of the trio could be rested there, too. This bodes well for the weekend trip to Wigan, then, with Van Persie’s goals vital if the Gunners are to get back to winning ways.

Sergio Aguero’s owners would have been pleased to see the Argentine start last night’s game at the Emirates on the Man City bench, as Roberto Mancini chose Edin Dzeko to lead the line with Samir Nasri tucked in behind the Bosnian. Mancini made ten changes from the side that drew against Liverpool just over forty-eight hours beforehand but sent Aguero on just after the half-hour mark as a replacement for Aleksandar Kolarov- the Argentine came through the match unscathed, netting the winner with seven minutes remaining.

Harry Redknapp’s plans for tonight’s Europa League lineup in the match against PAOK were dealt a blow, with the news that Roman Pavlyuchenko is a major doubt for the game after a training ground accident. With Rafael Van der Vaart still a doubt for the weekend league clash against Bolton, Redknapp would ideally like to rest Jermain Defoe this evening but now likes likely to play the striker, with so little alternatives now available:

There is no-one else really because Pav did his knee. It doesn’t look very good. He just banged it on Andros Townsend’s head. He slipped and hit Andros and it looks very swollen. It doesn’t look great.

Stiliyan Petrov is set to return to training for Aston Villa ahead of the weekend game against Man United. The Bulgarian missed out on Sunday for the trip to Swansea but Alex McLeish is hopeful his skipper will be fit and available for the crucial clash against the champions.

Rangel out could be very bad news for Swansea. I've not watched many of their game highlights with much interest, but he is the top scoring defender points wise in The Metro league, 621 , which I take to mean he has a great deal of influence.

Hmm, PPI says he's behind Williams and Naylor, and if you were to combine the PPi scores of Monk/Caulker (one replaced the other in the side on injury), then Rangel would have the lowest of the back four.

I don't see Rangel's injury seriously affecting the Swans CS potential.

News that Manchester United are scouting Schalke's Christian Fuchs has inspired a host of 'Fuchs off to Old Trafford?' headlines and a lot of sniggering. But he's not even in the top 20 of rude footballer names... and neither is Danny Shittu!

    20) An early England one-cap wonder, Segar Bastard naturally went on to become a referee.

    19) Winger Wayne W@nklyn played in the same Reading side as keeper Steve Death.

    18) Famously lobbed by Nayim, David Seaman ’s nickname at Arsenal was ‘H’ – short for Harry Monk. Another goalkeeper, Stanislav Seman , was in the Czech side which won Olympic gold in 1980.

    17) Filipino keeper Alphonse Areola has been linked with Manchester United and Tottenham after impressing at Paris St Germain.

    16) Former Grasshoppers striker Andre Muff was a former Switzerland team-mate of Bernt Haas .

    15) Briefly in the limelight with Independiente and Celta Vigo, Argentinean striker Mario Turdo is currently without a club.

    14) Roberto Martinez’s Wigan reign began to go wrong the moment his move for Chilean centre back Waldo P0nce broke down last year. Instead P0nce joined the best-named team in Chile – O’Higgins.

    13) Now assistant manager at Bury, former centre back Peter Shirtliff ’s name caused giggles at Sheffield Wednesday, Charlton, Wolves and Barnsley.

    12) One of Kevin Keegan’s worst signings, Dutch winger Brian Pinas made one substitute appearance in nearly two years before returning to Feyenoord.

    11) Still playing at 36, it’s a lasting regret that Czech defender Milan Fukal failed a week’s trial with Leeds in 2006.

    10) Part of the Dutch side thumped 4-1 by England at Wembley in Euro 96, Johan de Kock won an unlucky 13 caps for Holland.

    9) A £5m disaster from the John Barnes/Kenny Dalglish management team at Celtic, Rafael Scheidt started only three league games for the Bhoys and later joined Botafogo.

    8) Briefly linked with the Liverpool vacancy last year before Kenny Dalglish returned, former Brazil defender A rgelico F*cks is, unsurprisingly, known as Argel.

    7) Chelsea disappointed everyone in 2009 by dropping their interest in Independiente keeper Fabian Assman.

    6) The number one club in the Peruvian Andes, widely criticised in the mid-‘00s for moving their stadium to the city of Cerro de Pasco, 4,380 above sea level, are named after a local tribe… Deportivo W@nka

    5) Long linked with a Premier League move, time is running out for an English club to snap up the services of Marseille right back Rod Fanni.

    4) Germany’s Under-20 manager, a former East German international and one-club man with Dynamo Dresden, is named Ralf Minge .

    3) While at Benfica, Germany keeper Hans-Jorg Butt was briefly understudy to former Portugal No.1 Quim .

    2) Fulham boss Martin Jol’s brothers Richard and Cornelius are known as D1ck and C0ck . “What’s so funny about this?” the scary Dutchman once raged to a Tottenham press conference, as journos stifled their giggles. “C0ck is a common name in the Netherlands.”

    1) The former Germany striker who enlivened the video for Baddiel and Skinner’s Three Lions remake in ’88, Stefan Kuntz has embraced his name’s brilliance since becoming general manager of Kaiserslautern, by signing both Danny Fuchs and Florian D1ck.

The question is, do you need MU cover given their form? Can't see your team (broken link) but I wouldn't necessarily think Ba is better than your current strikeforce. Maybe Studge to Ba, but only maybe.

Just to go back to the Christian Fuchs story for a second, this would be a baffling signing by Man Utd. A few good free-kicks and crosses, but a total liability in defence - many Schalke fans don't even think he's good enough for the Bundesliga. So, yes, it's true that Ferguson's had him watched, but I'm not sure why.

Never heard of him. A lot of reports today that Arsenal are going after Podolski. Great for Germany but isn't he one of those players who get incredibly homesick and loves to be the 'darling' of the club.

Yes, pretty much. Podolski's playing quite well this season and his variability along the front line means that he could fit into Arsenal's system without many problems. But he doesn't offer them anything that they haven't already got with Walcott, and Podolski has also never proved himself consistently against top opposition. Technically, he's way behind Götze or Özil.

Agreed, especially with The Ox and Miyachi coming though. I would love to sign Huntelaar, not sure he'd want to play second fiddle to Van Persie though.

I think Huntelaar will stay with Schalke - they've built the attack around him and he turned down a lucrative move to Rubin Kazan in March. There's been increased speculation that Tomáš Rosický may sign for Wolfsburg in the winter break though.

We dont need variability along the front line, an out and out lone striker is needed. Park and Chamahk were awful last night, although why Chamahk was playing with that cough is beyond me.

Looks solid to me. I've considered all of those but would give Barfa one more week, Brunt isn't on form and MGP is one helluva punt - O'Hara has the fixtures and with a bit of luck will keep playing in that hole.

I'm either gonna do VDV > Adam/O'Hara or Drenthe > O'Hara depending on injury news/lack of.

I don't have any Man U players so it's something I need to consider. Young looked v dangerous against us last week though - just a little bit rusty.

O'Hara's scores seem to depend on the formation McCarthy plays

        vs Wigan

        http://soccernet.espn.go.com/gamecast?id=317959&cc=4716

        vs Everton

        http://soccernet.espn.go.com/gamecast?id=318139&cc=4716

Maybe he would be a home only kind of player and be better as a rotating mid, but maybe 5.7m is a lot to have on the bench every other week if you keep him long-term.

Nani/Young aren't close to price rises, only Mata is looking potentially on course for a rise, so I'm holding on and going to take the 0.1 on VDV again (down to 10.2 from 10.5 purchase, 3 point return).

I've gone Naylor, currently have ShawX on bench with Brown and Raylor also ahead.

More importantly for me though, Vorm or Krul?

Had Vorm but just changed to Krul before.

Yeesh. What order would you put this lot in at the back? Only playing three.

    Walker, Enrique, Naylor, Raylor, Brown....

Currently thinking Walker, Enrique, Brown? With Raylor 1st sub and Naylor 2nd?

Definitely Walker and Enrique, but I'd play Naylor at Blackburn (did you watch BR last night? Awful!), followed by Raylor and Brown last. SUN have no form.

      I'd play Walker, Enrique, Raylor.

I think Blackburn will score against Swansea (so poor away from home) and sunderland are there for the taking.

Don't expect too many clean sheets so I'd go with the more attacking ones.

Quick question: Who do you think will win out of the following this weekend?

    QPR v West Brom
    Fulham v Liverpool
    Blackburn v Swansea

Final stages of my eliminator and need to pick a winner from these 3 -I have an eye on Liverpool for the game against QPR in 3 weeks.

    Thanks

The average score for GW 13 was 44 (I think) taking into account the massess who effectively do not play any more (no transfer activity for ages) yet the average Paddy Power scores were only slightly higher than this at 47 - so does all this chatting and analysing really make that much difference, great as the banter is

when the likes of rooney bale terry - players who wouldve been in alot of the casual players teams do well and the form picks such as rvp vdv etc dont then the average is always going to be higher. most weeks it wont be that close

Is Tony Hibbert worth looking at? At 4.8 he seems like a good value way of getting into EVE defence ahead of their good run of fixtures...

    Or am I missing something?

Baines is way too expensive - at 7.8 is a big risk... especially as we don't know if Everton will kick in... and don't say they have because they played 10-men Bolton last week

For me, yes. O'Hara may continue playing off forward (OOP) while Sess has never convinced me anyway. Only worry is Doyle's recovery, that would probably push O'Hara deeper again where his points potential has been limited.

The vast majority of Chelsea fans don't want Lampard in the team at the moment? It's no coincidence that our results this season have been much better without him, and that both of Torres' goals in the league this season have come in the 83 minutes he's played without Lampard.

I'll take that as a yes then. 😛

All of that may be true but I feel sorry for the guy. It must be difficult to have your name dragged through the dirt and everything you gave as a marvellous servant to your club ignored and forgotten in order to facilitate the defence of Flopnando Torres and AVB.

he was rested as he'd played 4 games in about what 14 days (2 for England then 2 for United) Smalling wasn't match fit and Rafa was only just back in training. Doubt he'll play tonight

Team will be something like this I think

      Lindegard/Amos

      Rafa/Fabio Evans Smalling Fryers

      Diouf Morrison Pogba Park

      Macheda Berbatov

      Subs
Lindegard/Amos Rafa/Fabio Evra Nani Carrick Valencia Welbeck
