A good haul of Fantasy points might put a smile on your face but doesn’t always put pounds in your pocket. That certainly rang true last weekend when it came to the β€œFlutter”. Bossing the left-flanks, both Leighton Baines and Garath Bale were Scout Picks that paid dividends for Fantasy managers, but failed to deliver on our chosen Flutter markets.

A brand new set of fixtures will hopefully spark a return to betting form. Spicing up the wagers this week are spot-kick specialist Yakubu, in-form poacher Emmanual Adebayor, free-kick aficionado Ryan Taylor and human battering ram Micah Richards. Read on to find out how we spend our Β£10 stake in this week’s Fantasy Flutter.

Tottenham are swaggering right now, there’s even a whisper of ‘title contenders’ in the air. And why not? Loanee Emmanual Adebayor has taken over the goalscoring baton while Rafael Van der Vaart nursed his hamstring, netting 4 goals in two games, leaving Spurs just a couple of neat and tidy performances away from challenging the topspot. Although Bolton will try their best to repel the vibrant Spurs attack, Adebayor to score 2 or more goals at 13/5, looks good for the first Β£2.50 of our money.

Last week’s flutter selection neglected the prospect of defensive returns, so this time around a clean sheet market is tempting us. Roberto Mancini will be looking to come away from the Norwich clash with a shutout, and if Micah Richards and co can keep out the likes of Anthony Pilkington and Steve Morison out, and steer clear of the ref’s notebook, Paddy will pay out at 11/10. This might seem a touch too short for some, but a Β£5 stake shows confidence City this weekend.

Newcastle’s Ryan Taylor has netted a couple of long-range efforts this season, and will be looking to lend his right-foot to the Magpies attack when Chelsea pay a visit. Taylor to score outside of the box has been priced at 8/1 by Paddy, and is a risk worth taking for a Β£1 of our money.

Blackburn haven’t featured much in the Flutter, as their worst start to a Premier League season plods on. While picking up points has been a problem, goals haven’t been proving too much of an issue of late, however, and Yakubu looks a potential bargain over a forthcoming run of favourable fixtures. Netting twice against Wigan, he is fancied to make a mark against Swansea at Ewood this weekend, with Paddy posting 5/2 for him to score and Blackburn to go on to win. We’ll take them up on that for another quid.

Our final wager is a cheeky 50 pence on a long-shot anytime double. Watchlist Wanderer Jamie O’Hara and Blackburn’s Morten Gamst Pederson were both in our thinking when it came to the Scout Picks this weekend; Paddy are offering both to net at 18/1. That may be too far fetched for most to open their wallets for, but we’re going to back our hunch with the last of our stake money.

Curse of the Old Boy!

Paddy’s money back special this weekend takes us to Villa Park and surrounds the fortunes of former home favourite, Ashley Young. If the United man comes back to haunt his former club by scoring a goal at anytime, Paddy will refund all losing first/last goalscorer, correct score and scorecast singles on the match.

I have Drenthe and Ramsey and have decided to hang on to them for now given fixtures. I think people are writing Drenthe off a bit quick, there's no reason to think he can't do the business.

His goal stats from previous clubs doesn't bode too well though... 2 goals in 46 games for Real, never score for Feyenoord. I rate him like Moussa Dembele - might deliver once in a while, but not someone you can rely on.

Lamps should go in my opinion...They will suffer if he plays, and he won't get a full run-out.

That being said he could get lucky again. But do you really want to be one of those owners waiting for a penalty the entire game?

I got rid of him for Silva this week for free. Look at it this way, Lampard is on 4 yellows and he will get suspended soon, he could play less than 90 min because of the CL midweek.....VDV is a long term replacement and you free up some cash for next week in the process. The problem with VDV is that he is injury prone but I have him anyway until that day comes. I think you should do it cause you could get those 4 points back with him having a good game today!

I think that Lucas produces when he plays but Kenny only likes playing him in certain games. May be his style of play is only suited to tight tactical games as he doesn't have that pace a winger needs in the open games.

Bellamy on the other hand has been brilliant and could be worth investment if he keeps on getting the minutes.

The problem is that Carroll is also playing well so there's plenty of competition at the moment.

And I remember Maxi getting the hot urine treatment shortly after my Kenny. Kenny being pot-committed to those chumps he signed means that Henderson and the other losers get the lion's share. I agree with you if they got a proper chance. I wouldn't even feel safe w/ Kuyt with Lucas out...his responsibilities WILL change. Someone will be freed, we just don't know who yet. I don't even feel right starting Enrique this weekend...

    argument:

Aguero played 60 minutes mid-week, and Man City have a mega-clash with Bayern Munich right after this weekend's game for their Champions League hopes. If I was Mancini I would only bring Aguero on in the 70th minute if the game is tied against a much less talented Norwich city that Baloteli and Dzecko will tear apart. Then Man City play Chelsea and Arsenal in the next two game weeks.

I argue to switch out Aguero and Wes Brown ( I also believe, even with a good replacement manager such as MoN, Sunderland will lack the right stuff to win this game ) and bring in Ba and Walcott. Ba is on form, Newcastle have a very kind run of fixtures after this Chelsea game, which is a game that I also say Ba will score in, not necessarily Newcastle win, but chelsea's defense that will be opened up by Ba at some point. Walcott WILL preform this game.

What do you guys think? Is this a good trade this week? Aguero out and Ba / Walcott in.

Have to agree, for me it's simple.....do City need to win on Wednesday, yes. Do City need to play Aguero to beat Norwich, certainly not. I reckon best Kun owners can hope for is a 20 min appearance off the bench. For non-Kun owners, a nervous 20 min hoping he doesn't destroy a tired Norwich already 2/3 goals down.

This season everyone in my mini-league seems to be going the same way on goalies/defenders. Sure this wasn't the same last season. Now everyone has a Man City def, at least one or two Newcastle and Swans, likely Jones, possibly Enrique. I remember a much greater variety in defenders last year. Odd.

Fewer CS this year explains less variety in CS doesn't it! Everyone flocks to the few safe CS like investors flock to gold. Those options you mentioned are the only safe CS this year and even then only with good fixtures and home advantage for the weaker teams. Even City haven't been hot on CS this year, I think it's people chasing Richards' attacking points and taking what CS they can.

Yeah I guess it's a combination of cheap defenders at two unexpected clean sheet sources (Newc, Swans) plus cheap ways in to 'elite' teams (Enrique, Jones, Bos earlier in season)

Hi all can u pls offer me some advice?

    Current team:
    Vorm (Westwood)
    Richards, jones, gabbidon (Simpson, brown)
    Vdv, silva, dyer, drenthe (moses)
    RVP, Rooney, adebayor

I have 1 free transfer and 0.4m in bank.
I was thinking Baines and Balotelli for Rooney and Brown?
    Thoughts please?

Why always Balotelli? You're ditching a certain starter for a possible bench warmer, I don't like it. Play Brown.

It's much better to have these options than hoping you'll put out a full team. My bench decision was Ramsey or Enrique, not a bad one to have.

Yeah true, my bench decision is benching one of Nani, Sturridge, Drenthe, Ramsey, at one stage this week they have all been on my bench! Currently have Drenthe on the bench.

I've just removed RVP as my Captain and replaced him with Ade for this week.

Better differential (30+% ownership / 17% ownership), RVP looked jaded last week against Fulham. Ade looks full of goals and certainly isn't jaded.

Would anyone care to comment on my thoughts here?

          Yes, i'm a gooner fan.
He lacked supply from the midfield men and was clearly tired.
He has had his rest now, and is still the best FPL player, versing one of the worst teams in the comp.

              Tragic isn't it.
I bet if RVP bagged a jammy goal or penalty you wouldn't have said he was 'jaded' but the fact he grabbed you two FPL points means he must have been πŸ™„

It was Fulham you know they flood the midfield make dangerous challenges to win an ball, we traditionally have trouble with them as they are the draw masters and put lads behind the ball. Sometimes you have to step back and look at the cards dealt...RVP is prudent enough to do that.

Yeah - that does weigh heavily but I've taken a big risk by playing Bale, VDV AND Ade in my team for the next several weeks - at least until gw 21.

I'm happy with what I've done so far this year and feel as though I want to start taking a few more risks.

At least it'll make things a little more exciting for me!

      tough call

i have aguero, rvp and ade who could all have have the armband but for me it is between ade and rvp due to the uncertainty of agueros gametime

genuinely think its 50/50 - arsenal are away which is always a negative factor but with vdv back ade's potential points are more likely to be shared.

Right Metro transfers done in plenty of time to avoid their site going through it's normal Saturday Lunchtime blockage. Check
    Fpl transfers done. Check

Relax until first teams announced for the last game transfers in case needed, that site up and running. Check.

Needs more tall outfield players. Those midfielders would get destroyed when challenging for goal kicks against the mighty Stoke and Blackburn.

Downgrade Aguero, might not play. Either Ba, Sturridge or Ade, whichever you think is best. Leaves you money to sort out Evans.
