[sbu_large_image] Suspensions

Having savoured the splendours of Spurs’ win over Bolton at first-hand yesterday, the suspension update comes with something of a personal touch this evening.

We’ll start then at my game and with the disciplinary talking point of Saturday’s match ups – Gary Cahill’s red card. The Bolton defender was given his marching orders by referee Stuart Atwell for a foul on Scott Parker after 17 mins that was deemed to be ‘denying a goal-scoring opportunity’. A 1 match ban will result, meaning Bolton will be without both Cahill and last week’s headliner, David Wheater, for the GW15 game hosting Aston Villa.

Most onlookers were in agreement that the decision was extremely harsh (or an ‘absolute disgrace’ as Bolton Chairman Phil Gartside put it), and when viewed in the context of a yellow card for Chelsea’s David Luiz four minutes into the Saturday lunchtime game for a much more clear cut ‘professional foul’, they may have a point.

In the other games, we saw another red card, this time for Swansea’s Joe Allen who picked up a first yellow for throwing the ball away and followed it with a second late on at Ewood park for a push on Junior Hoilett, to earn himself an early bath and a ban for GW15 (FUL).

Joining him as new entries to the ban list are the aforementioned David Luiz – that yellow card his fifth of the season, meaning he will miss next week’s Monday Night Football against the league leaders (mci) – and perennial offender, Lee Cattermole. The Sunderland midfielder also picked up his fifth booking in this afternoon’s live game, with his ban to be served against Blackburn.

As well as the suspensions, there were also a couple of additional inductees to the Suspension Tightrope this week. Arsenal’s Alex Song and Bolton right back Paul Robinson both picked up their fourth yellow cards of the season to join the merry balancing band one yellow card from a ban.

Gameweek 15 Bans

  • Stephen N’Zonzi (Blackburn) – FA Charge (Last of 3 matches)
  • Gary Cahill (Bolton) – 1 Red for a professional foul (1 match)
  • David Wheater (Bolton) – 1 Red for serious foul play (Second of 4 matches)
  • David Luiz (Chelsea) – 5 Yellows (1 match)
  • Lee Cattermole (Sunderland) – 5 Yellows (1 match)
  • Joe Allen (Swansea) – 1 Red for 2 bookings (1 match)

Suspension Tightrope – Four bookings

  • Alex Song (Arsenal)
  • Gabby Agbonlahor (Aston Villa)
  • Stiliyan Petrov (Aston Villa)
  • Paul Robinson (Bolton)
  • Frank Lampard (Chelsea)
  • Brede Hangeland (Fulham)
  • Steve Sidwell (Fulham)
  • Yohan Cabaye (Newcastle)
  • Ryan Shawcross (Stoke)
  • Glenn Whelan (Stoke)

i find your comment pretty funny, living up to the stereotype chelsea fan of not knowing much about football. If you actually knew what you're talking about, you'd realise that Liverpool's academy was given a major focus and rehaul by Benitez, which is why you're seeing many youngsters coming through. Before him it was a mess - he turned the academy around really well.

Exactly. Rafa managed to persuade Rodolfo Borrell from Barcelona's academy to run it. He's still there and its the reason Pep G tells youngsters the "next best" place to go is Liverpool.
The reason Rafa didn't play many youngsters is becfause when he arrived we didn't have any good enough.

    Vorm (Krul)
    Jones Brown Simpson Kompany Ward
    Walters Silva Bale Drenthe Dyer
    RVP(c) Sturridge Adebayor

    Bank 5.0

I think I'll stick with Drenthe and hopefully see him back for Everton's 2 home games vs Norwich Swansea and happy with the 3 forwards.

I'm tempted to bring Vidic in and have both Jones and Vidic for United's run, however I also have Vermaelen in mind this week and Terry in mind for GW18.

    Thoughts?

Utd: WOL qpr ful WIG BLA
City: che ARS STO wba sun

Utd haven't conceded in 4 of the last 5, City conceded in the last 7. The question is:

Will Vidic/ Evra outscore Kompany by at least 4 point meaning a hit this week? Looks likely nah...? . I want to double on Utd defense and have the cash ATM. 3 great home games and teams like QPR and FUL that are tight teams and will play defensive game against the champions. City on the other hand after the che and Ars games, Stoke games aside, have 2 away games against Hogson side and ONeil side.

I'll check later on in the week when I actually confirm it. Do you think I should if he is fit.

I think there will be some 4 5 1 from SAF, so he won't start all the time IMO. I prefer Ba

I don't like all this negative Drenthe chatter at all. Jumping ship and not gonna worry about it. Bale is the logical choice if you can afford it. Wouldn't get Welbz personally, he's not guaranteed to start as Fergie could play Young behind Rooney.

      2. dont get Bale in if you have tottenham-coverage in vdV. so 2, or 4. your call. im saying 2 as you seem likely to want to do a trade

      1. Bale, whether you like it or not, has definitely upped attacking involvement this year. Just noticed that he had the highest no of shots on target for a midfielder this gwk.

Aguero & Brown --> Ba and Vidic for 4 pt hit?

Yeah there's an argument for jones instead but .... it's Vidic.

        Disagree with the first part:

        Norwich (a)
        West Brom (h)
        Swansea (h)

And yeah he will, but there's 6-7 matches before then and is nailed on to start.

Short term's what im interested in - I tend to look at the next 4 fixtures. Benchable at that price too and I'd play him at home to Man U anyway. Wildcard to fix the problems in january if he's still in my team then.

Yes. I would specialise the team for the next 7-8 weeks like doubling up on United and Everton defence.

How many do you need to shift as a priority? I see three:Given, Hernandez and Bannan. Not enough for a wc imo.

he and mata have been quietly getting an assist or goal pretty much every game so for me there worth the dosh

Fixtures and lack of minutes. He doesn't play 90min. His ppg at home are excellent and he has only Stoke home in the next 5. Good bet, but not a must

Possibly due to cheaper alternatives around at present (Yak, Ba, Helga, Studge et al) to go with RVP.
