Liverpool and the FA have this evening announced Luis Suarez is to be charged following an incident in Liverpool’s defeat at Fulham on Monday evening.

The FA’s official site released the following statement in full:

Liverpool Football Club have been charged by The FA with failing to ensure its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion, following the dismissal of Jay Spearing. The charge is in relation to Liverpool’s Premier League fixture at Fulham on 5 December 2011. The club has until 4pm on Monday 12 December to respond to the charge. Luis Suarez has also been charged following an incident in the same game. The Liverpool player is charged with improper conduct, in relation to an alleged gesture made towards the Fulham fans at the end of the fixture. The player has until 4pm on Monday 12 December to respond to the charge.

Having been barracked for much of the game by the home support with accusations of diving, the Uruguayan was seem to gesture towards the Cottagers fans and now faces a second disciplinary charge, with the Patrice Evra racism allegations also hanging over his head. In comparison to the situation with the Man United left-back, the case has been dealt with efficiently, though due to the delicate nature of the Evra controversy, they have been understandably slow to finalise any decision.

Much depends on Liverpool’s next move. Whether they will appeal or accept the charge will obviously affect the games Suarez could potentially miss. Still owned by over 28% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers, Suarez’s absence would force many to alter their plans, with QPR, avl, wig, BLA affording the Reds a generous set of fixtures over the next few gameweeks. At present, though, he is free to play this weekend.

Certainly, there seems to be a far more clear-cut case to answer for his Craven Cottage indiscretion, though, with plenty of pictorial evidence highlighting Suarez’s reaction over the past couple of days.

Andy Carroll’s place in the first-team would seem more definite in the short-term as a result of any Suarez suspension, with Craig Bellamy also offering a cheaper Fantasy option. Dirk Kuyt could also come into the reckoning but much depends on Kenny Dalglish’s thinking in light of Jay Spearing’s three-match ban in the same fixture, as the injuries and suspensions start to rack up down Anfield way.

There is also the possibility that Suarez may receive nothing more than a fine, however. Other recent cases of improper misconduct, involving Carlton Cole and Ryan Babel, resulted in both being free to play. The matter is completely at the discretion of the disciplinary committee and could go either way.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

If your a Jones owner in FPL, is it good news that Jones is playing in midfield, just because he is playing or is it bad news because he may have lost his place in defence.

Carrick is a useful player in a midfield 3, he can break up attacks with interceptions but isn't strong enough in the tackle to be a ball winner. He can move the ball quickly square or wide, but struggles to go forwards, he what I call a continuity player.

I don't think he's lost his place in defence at all. The great thing about him is Fergie seems to be fine playing him CM, CB or RB so he has a high chance of playing in most games.

      Yep, what Andy said.

So glad I ignored FFS' suggestion of De Gea + Evans a few weeks back and opted for just Jones instead.

Fergie just seems to want Jones to play and will fit him in no matter what.

Not to mention he's 19 years old and don't think fitness is an issue at the moment. Minimal rest needed for the young lad and the ability to play multiple positions makes him the most attractive and affordable of the United defense

Giving it 3 more GWs before considering Vermaelen, but he's on form, that's for sure.

Smalling will no doubt miss some playing time over Xmas, but Brown and Simpson rotate well and you'd expect those both to play every game - unless MON thinks otherwise re: Brown.

Now, that Smalling is playing tonight, do we all think that he has cemented his place into the United defence? Do you now think he would be a cheap way to get into the United defence and will play most United Premier League games?

It's not the Arsenal/Man Utd cleansheets, it's the lack elsewhere.

      Norwich/Blackburn - 0 clean sheets this season.
Swansea - only good at home.
Newcastle - Saylor & Collo injured.

Also the lack of consistency in the 6M midfield mean people will downgrade to Gower/Dyer/Moses ~5M etc and then upgrade a 5M def to a 6M - Kompany, Jones, Enrique, Vermaelen, Richards etc.

well if you go O'Hara to Henderson I'm assuming you've at least .4 in the bank, if so, get rid of Fergie to a playing midfielder like Gower. If you have more even better.

Cheers ive got 1.0 in the bank before any trans Ohara has 2 decent fixtures coming up (after sat) so maybe just worth doing fergie to a mid worth up to 5.0 but duno why really? gower maybe.

Gaitan as that game should be higher scoring than United. Benfica sent a strong team out too.

Someone made a good point re: Smalling... always a chance Jones will move to RB at the weekend and Fletcher comes into midfield.

I think it's a case of Smalling/Jones + Vidic/Evra if you wish to double up.

Both Smalling AND Jones would be annoying as there's a good chance 1 of the 2 will miss 2 or 3 games over Xmas.

If I double it will be Smalling and Jones. One is always likely to play and I'd be happy to miss out on one from time to time.

Or you could have Vidic and be 99% sure he's going to start every game.

So I read that some managers start some first string players even in a "meaningless" game because of UEFA ratings and prize money. So are those important at all?

Obvs or they wouldn't do it, but you can never guess at which players they'll risk.
