With a busy Christmas schedule ahead, this is the last opportunity of 2011 for us to rinse through the fixture list. Soak up the final “Frisking” of the year then, as we welcome in gameweek 16.

The Strong

Man United

It’s ironic that, with City offering United a chink of light and with fixtures falling nicely for Alex Ferguson’s side, they currently have their defensive rock and penalty box predator sidelined with injuries. While United will clearly miss the services of Nemanja Vidic and Javier Hernandez, Fantasy managers will still be purring over the assets that remain.

The weekend’s 4-1 dismantling of Wolves at Old Trafford showed the intent – with Vidic out, Ferguson may well be opting to go for the jugular. Goals could well be on the agenda and there’s little doubt that the Christmas programme of fixtures offers Untied every assistance possible.

Trips to QPR and Fulham up next, may slow them slightly, but home encounters with Wigan and Blackburn point to heavy profit for the likes of Wayne Rooney and Nani. Expect big investment, price rises and increased expectation on Ferguson’s attacking players. Defensively meanwhile, Phil Jones will go on acquiring new owners. Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling will also tempt buyers who will hope that United can muster clean sheets, even without Vidic in the ranks.

Newcastle

The Magpies look good in the short-term. The next three fixtures have them host Swansea and West Brom, while a trip to Bolton beckons on Boxing Day. With Alan Pardew patching up his defence, investment in that area will rightly slow somewhat. Although Ryan Taylor, with a major goal threat from set-plays, always offers potential.

It’s in attacking terms that Newcastle will be expected to prosper. Demba Ba has delivered consistently all season, while Yohan Cabaye has shown flashes – Hatem Ben Arfa also has the talent; we await the explosion and the inevitable bandwagon.

Newcastle’s kind run of opponents ends in gameweeks 19 and 20 with Liverpool and United en route, but we should see profits up until Boxing Day at least.

Everton

With a double fixture to come in gameweek 20, Everton are already in the minds of watchful Fantasy managers. There’s also the opportunity for early investment. Everton’s run of opponents over Christmas gives them a nice run-up to their double fixture, starting with back-to-back home games with Norwich and Swansea. Trips to West Brom and Sunderland then follow – all opponents which should afford David Moyes’ side an opportunity to earn goals and league points.

Selecting Fantasy assets remains a problem however. No doubt we’ll see a scramble for mid-price prospects like Marouanne Fellaini, Leon Osman and Jack Rodwell come gameweek 20 – probably the only time this year that trio will be treated to such attention. Similarly the fragile Tim Cahill and Louis Saha may enjoy some investment for those looking for something a little more explosive.

Phil Jagielka remains a prospect at the back, but there’s no doubt that Leighton Baines is the crown jewel. So integral to Everton’s attacking play, Baines is a big expense but also, potentially, a huge differential over the next month.

Tottenham

Like Everton, Spurs will enjoy huge investment prior to gameweek 20’s double fixture. Unlike the Toffees, they already have a rich array of talent to warrant such attention. Indeed, leading into the Christmas programme, it’s difficult to imagine too many Fantasy managers without either Gareth Bale, Emmanuel Adebayor or Rafael Van der Vaart nestled in their squad.

We’ve talked at length about the profits on offer from Harry Redknapp’s vibrant attack – Sunday’s defeat at Stoke was a setback but, once again, Tottenham’s goal threat was on show.

Prior to the gameweek 20 double, Spurs host both Sunderland and Chelsea over the next two gameweeks. The latter promises to be a battle royale, with both London sides in the mix for the title race. Trips to Norwich and Swansea then follow, leading into the double with West Brom and Everton.

It’s hard to see Spurs failing to notch one or more goals in any of those games – Stoke needed arms, legs and dubious decisions to keep them out on Sunday. Those holding Spurs assets, or contemplating new acquisitions, will surely earn profits going well into the New Year.

Chelsea

Andre Villas-Boas has restored belief down at Stamford Bridge and last night’s victory over City has pushed them back into contention. The timing is perfect. Chelsea’s fixture list seems set to offer them the platform to exert further pressure on the top two, with an away trip to Spurs in gameweek 17 their only real test in the next seven gameweeks.

Fantasy managers should be on alert. Trips to Wigan and White Hart Lane come next but, following that, three home games in four, with Fulham, Villa and Sunderland at the Bridge, offers Chelsea the opportunity to boost the goal difference column.

Daniel Sturridge is sparkling in his wide right role, providing consistent returns to warrant the modest 6.9 FPL price tag. Similarly, Juan Mata has shown consistency on the opposite flank and is pushing for inclusion in our midfields. There’s even a pull towards the Chelsea defence – previously so unreliable, there are now real shoots of progress, with three clean sheets in the last five. John Terry, with four goals and 14 bonus points to his name, remains an expensive but seemingly consistent attraction.

Also consider…

Liverpool – epitomised by the stuttering returns of Luis Suarez, Kenny Dalglish’s side have failed to deliver profits on a regular basis. Kind away trips to Villa and Wigan, with a home clash with Blackburn, hints that it may be worth keeping the faith.

Stoke – two testing away days beckon for Tony Pulis’ men but, following that, they are treated to Villa and Wigan at the Britannia in gameweeks 18 and 19. With tails up after the Spurs win, Stoke’s squad could yet deliver going into 2012.

Wolves – Mick McCarthy’s side have the fixtures over the next four gameweeks to dig themselves a foothold in mid-table. Home games with Stoke and Norwich over the next two could define their season, with the likes of Jamie O’Hara and Steven Fletcher warranting a passing glance as a result.

The Weak

Wigan

Two consecutive away wins have eased the pressure on the Latics and Roberto Martinez, with Victor Moses at last delivering returns that his performances this season have promised. Fantasy managers will remain cautious however, as Wigan embark on a run of games that will threaten to root them in the bottom three.

Chelsea visit the DW Stadium this weekend, off the back of their win over City, with Liverpool next to park up. The Latics then take the trip to Old Trafford, before making their way to the Britannia. An intimidating run, that promises little Fantasy profit and Premier League points.

Aston Villa

The win at the Reebok was a vital result for Alex McLeish. He will have been all too aware of the consequences of another setback given the fixtures in front of his side over Christmas.

Villa will go into the home clash with Liverpool this weekend without the threat of Gabby Agbonlahor, his suspension will lead to another round of FPL sales as Fantasy managers lose faith with the fleet-footed striker who has struggled to maintain goalscoring form. Darren Bent also remains largely overlooked, and with Arsenal, Stoke and Chelsea to follow the Liverpool clash, there’s little chance of that situation changing.

Fulham

Martin Jol’s side continue to frustrate. Three points against Liverpool hinted at a revival; only for them to waste an opportunity at Swansea with Clint Dempsey seeing his spot-kick saved. Defeat on Saturday left the Cottagers dangerously near the relegation dogfight, with a fixture list that threatens to drag them into the mire.

The home clash with Bolton this weekend will be vital – with United and Chelsea providing their next opponents. An away trip to Norwich welcomes in the New Year, completing a quartet of matches that will likely see Fulham struggle for clean sheets.

Also be wary of…

West Brom – two tricky away trips to Blackburn and Newcastle, ease the Baggies into a home clash with City on Boxing Day – a spell which promises little defensively, with pressure on Shane Long and Peter Odemwingie to produce up front.

QPR – Neil Warnock’s side will face a confident United this weekend with Sunderland, buoyed by the arrival of Martin O’Neill, next at Loftus Road. Away trips to Swansea and Arsenal then follow in what looks to be a decidedly tricky Christmas party.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

My Vice Captains always score great.

GW 13; Adebayor - 14 points, Captain was RVP who got 2 points
GW 14; Van Persie - 15 points, Captains was Adebayor who got 2 points
GW 15; Nani - 18 points, Captain was RVP got 7 points.

If my Vice would of been my captain over them three gameweek i would have had 36 more points, so on average it cost me 12 points.

Want to get Nani in this week (in fact wanted to get him last week but couldn't decide who to ship out). Who should I ship out between:
    1) VdV
    2) Larsson
    3) Walters
Leaning toward VdV which would give me the option to pick up either him or Bale before the double game week.

How many more (or less) points do you think you'd have if the bonus point systems was the same as last season?

I reckon i'd have had at least 30 more. Had Sessegnon and Moses since the beginning of the season when they were running the early matches but getting no points, had Sturridge and Mata a fair bit aswell. Don't think i've gotten many bonus points when it hasn't been deserved (it's pretty much only been RvP getting me them).

A lot more. A grand total of one this week, but there've been worse weeks than that.

This week: Vorm. A clean sheet, a penalty save, six saves. No bonus points.

      I rest my case.

    Evening gents

I posted on the Stoke City ‘Oatcake’ site concerning Ryan Shotton’s chances of holding down a starting place. Some interesting replies for those that are interested:

“Some way off yet but game time will make him better, he needs to get over beating himself up about any mistakes he makes and just get on with his game. He miss timed a ball in the box yesterday and after that he seemed to make a number of other silly minor mistakes because the inital one was on his mind…Other than that thought once again showed he has the raw material to make him a future stalwart of the team.”

“I hope he plays Sat because I think he will rip the dingles a new arse.”

“Played a solid game yesterday and helped at the back when he was needed. He showed willingness to take on his man with decent pace and put a few lovely crosses into the box. Add that to the fact he has a peach of a throw on him, hasn't found his position yet and he's only 23 and you get a lad that has great potential…If this talk of Pennant leaving us in January is true, I'd personally love to see him get a starting position as it will increase his experience ten-fold.”
“Better as a winger than a full back, needs a bit more game time to prove himself.”
“What he isn't, and never will be, is a Premiership right winger or midfielder, irrespective of what he's doing now. It's possible he might make it at full back but I still doubt it in the long term. And as for potential, if he's 23 ( I thought he was 22) then how long does that take to come through? He's in danger of becoming overrated.”

Essou Ekoto knew he'd been in a game yesterday..bet he was gald to get back on the bus down saaarrff.

“Physically Shotts was too much for him, technically he's allright and plays to his strengths. Nothing flash just hard to knock off the ball and backs himself, decent delivery too. Could be our most improved player by the end of this season if he keeps putting in performances like that one against Spurs.”

“i think theres a lot more to come from him, looking at yesterdays match, there is definately promise in him as a winger. He caused Assou-Ekotto a fair few problems in the firsthalf, and even when he began to tire in the second half, he still managed to carry the ball a good 50/60 yards down the line (something only a few stoke players can do). These surely are good signs for the future.”

“Me,I think he's a good squad player but he's not good enough to hold down a regular spot...YET…Pennants a better play but if his Stoke career is over we need to get someone in in january, otherwise Shotton will have to learn quickly…Someone used the word naive yesterday and I'll go with that”

“His crossing isn't good enough and for all his endeavour he doesn't have enough ability to be able to beat full backs with the regularity that we need. He's more likely to 'make it' (regular Premier League starts) as a an attacking fullback but that isn't really a role we have at Stoke…There's certainly room for him in our squad but I see him as being a sort of Danny Pugh type utility player. Hope he proves me wrong.”

“Some things he did very well, some things he looked naive and quite a few mistakes were made . He's still learning and looks a very promising player in the years to come.”

“There is certainly an amount of pressure on Ryan and this is probably self made pressure. He has broken into the First team and knows that TP will be putting him under scrutiny during this period and you can tell that when he makes mistakes it gets to him.”

“Its all or nothing with Ryan. I remember the game against Spurs in the Cup. His crossing and general play was pretty poor that day. Yet on Sunday, in the first half, he was up and down and putting decent balls into the box and was my MOM for that half. Into the 2nd half and it was a different story. He was struggling to put the balls into the right areas and making the wrong decisions. There were a few times where I was pretty sure that if Pennant would of been on we would of punished Spurs on the counter. I do think that his improvement gives us hope, but not as a wide midfielder. Ryan is best concentrating on nailing down a full back slot. He could give us another attacking dimension from full back as he does give us more quality in the final third than any of the other contenders for that slot.”

“Although he's played quite a few games in the Europa League, the last two matches are the first he's started and completed in the Premier League. He needs a good run of games to get acclimatised to the pace and intensity of the Premier League, but once he's done that I think there's a great chance he can really compete for that right wing berth…Some of his mistakes are simply down to inexperience, but the more he plays those will hopefully become less frequent, and he has to work on his delivery, though that was much improved on Sunday until late on when he tired…And anyway, judging by his Radio Stoke interview on Sunday, TP clearly thinks the sun shines out of arse, so that's a good start.“

    Ruddy (Westwood)
    Jones Enrique Jagielka (Brown Simpson)
    Silva Nani Bale Ramsey (Allen)
    RVP Ade Welbeck

    My next moves are:
    1) New Keeper
    2) Replace Ramsey
    3) Replace Welbeck (happy to leave him for a few games

I currently have 0.7M in the bank, any suggestions for improvements?

Just out of my price range - plus I think Lennon might be better value for similar returns. In points and PPI per minute he's not far behind Bale.

Not an easy time to get a new Keeper. Vorm has tough home fixtures coming up and Krul is behind a somewhat makeshift defense. Maybe look at Friedel or Howard for the DGW then change is up for the WC

    evening lads, team is:

    vorm (ruddy)
    jones, bae, enrique (simpson,ward)
    nani, silva, vdv, sinclair (drenthe)
    ba, adebayor, sturridge
    2.4mil in the bank & 1ft

i know i've no rooney or rvp but i'm not going to try & force them in there. 2 options i'm looking @:
1: vdv out for bale & upgrade ward to baines next week
2: keep vdv & save the transfer, then next week drenthe & ward out to get baines & cheap mid in

vdv only owned by 11% & bale owned by nearly 33%... i'm leaning towards hanging onto vdv. any help very much appreciated!

Quite like this idea for a front line - some of the best options value wise in the game and great fixtures. Only issue is mids make less reliable captain options.

I may have done, but like you say still correct, having those 2 back is massive, hardly surprising that Newcastle's worst performances of the season came with those 3 out, and City would have struggled more against them had Tiote been fit I feel.

I think Routledge is now breathing down his neck and thus his appeal as a cheapie 5th midfielder has all but disapperaed. Routledge did OK when he came on v Blackburn (despite the score) and kept his place v Fulham as a result.

Reading the local paper, the former Swans player Leighton James (you may have heard of him) reckoned that Dyer and Sinclair should have been dropped for the Fulham game. He got one right!

ok guys current keepers are Vorm and Westwood, but come GW19 both have awful fixtures (not much better this week but 19 is worse) Barring injuries or suspensions I plan on making no transfers next week to give myself 2 frees (team is a few posts above) so would like to use 1 in GW18 to change a keeper or do McAuley to Caulker and then have 2 in GW19 to get in Studge and do the other one. I have up to 5.1 to spend, who is best to get me through to WC (am thinking one of Sorensen, Hennessey or Schwarzer)

I would be inclined to pick Krul that week as I have no Liverpool players
