The third round of the Paddy Power Cup V saw 256 fantasy managers go head-to-head over the course of Gameweek 15. The results of which are in, and can be viewed right here. Read on for a round-up of how some of the ties of note played out…

Another round and another former champ exits the competition. This time it’s FFS Cup II winner, Jonty, who has been eliminated after a crushing 68 – 59 defeat at the hands of 66irons. That leaves Ninja_fit_saints alone in the hunt to achieve the unprecedented – a second tournament win.

Chief Scout Mark also casts a lonely figure as the only remaining contributor; he powers on into the fourth round after a 70 – 41 demolition of domo. Intimidating stuff.

This week’s top-scorer was Cabaroota Beach queens, who tonked rakkhi 93 – 67. In the fourth round, he’ll be hoping to avoid the same fate that met the two previous top-scorers, both of which were knocked out the very next round. Round two top-scorer, elfortu, was battered 84 – 49 by a rampant EasyLuckyFree.

Also bowing out this week is bobbyg who, even now, is the highest ranked fantasy manager involved in the third round. He lost a nail-biter 63 – 62 to Lestat, but only slips two places overall to 52nd in the world.

Having wiped the floor 82 – 66 with theotherguy, hootneil now stands as the highest ranked competitor, only two behind bobbyg in 54th.

Four matches ended level, which meant that overall ranking had to be looked at to find a winner. Their previous 14 week’s work put Brosna Stars, evertonalstars, The Yassasinators and MaRkEsTuTe through at the expense of meltedman, evers, rocket science and jils respectively.

Congratulations to the 128 in the hat for the fourth round (the draw for which will be made on Thursday), and commiserations to everyone else.

Can anyone tell me who got bonus points from the Chelsea, Man City game. I can see Meireles with 3, Balotelli and Terry with 2. Who got the 1?

Im not THAT bad. Had Mata for ages, Silva, Richards, Enrique, Taylor since the beginning.

All in all Ive taken 4 4pt hits this season, which I dont think is awful. 18 transfers in total. Ill fix my link

Nice! I really wish I'd worked on the money aspect early on, with the changes to the price rises this year I think it's made it more of an advantage. If my team was 108.4 I'd have Mata instead of Ramsey!

Well you, sir, deserve a "fair play". Because that is an unreal team. I selected all those players to see how much it'd cost me and I'd need to find 3.7m from somewhere... Did you just have all the price risers like Bale, Ade and Ba etc . in before their values shot up?

I generally move fast when it comes to price rises and falls

I bought Bale this week, for 8.9, so I didnt make anything on him. But if it seems like a player is going to literally shoot up in price (like Silva, Ba, RVP, Nani) then I wont hesitate.

Haha, lets see come May! A friend of mine loves to remind me that "the best players arent always the most expensive". This tactic has worked for me for the past two seasons, and the whole January wildcard seems to enhance the benefit of a high team value.

As yet it hasnt translated into massive points, but I think I have built enough value and now will be going all out for points.

Ill definitely use it. It depends who is in form at that stage I suppose.

I will TRY to delay use until as late as possible, since that gives the most advantage

so u basically knee-jerk players who are likely to rise up in price, and sell them when they hit the high point?

like the way how u trade in stock markets?

even with it means that that player is schiit or taking a hit?

Well, would you say my players are shit?

Point is, players only rise if they are good. Kneejerking on bandwagons that collapse wont get you far. I made my money on Enrique, RVP, Silva, Richards, Adebayor, Ba, Taylor, all of whom have done pretty well and none of whom I would sell just to unlock their value.

Oh and Ive taken 4 4pt hits, which doesnt seem THAT high to me.

so ur strategy is to transfer out player with high vaue who don't do quite good recently and trade them with players who are going yo rise?

To clarify, I dont take a hit to get value. BUT I will take a hit if I want the player anyway, and delaying the transfer will see me lose out on a lot of money.

Not taking a hit for RVP, for instance, woulda meant I paid 12.2 instead of 11.9. That 0.3 can and does make a difference at some point (I have 0.1 in the bank, so my team would have been unaffordable without that bit of "kneejerking")

but any strategy for selling the player?
as soon as theplayers' price fall, u sell them (provided that they don't have form)??

I agree, he's at the centre of all things creative at liverpool. When Suarez plays hes picking the pass, when Carroll's on his threat from corners is always an option.

Problem is, Liverpool just haven't started clicking yet. I think when they finally knock 3/4/5 goals past a team then they'll drop onto people's radar.
The massive problem is the reliance on Suarez, and what bans he's going to recieve over the next few weeks (if any)

i'd say wait for news on tiote/coloccini (sp?) before making the decision.

with those two back, newc could very well keep a clean sheet. if one/both are out, you'd have to look at vermaelen chipping in with a goal against a leaky city defense.

Who would you captain out of this front 7?
    Bale Silva Nani Mata*
    RVP Adebayor* Ba*
    * = current 'main contenders'
Ba - Probably the obvious one fixture and rotation wise, however, with Vorm being the man, and Caulker back, it doesn't exactly fill me with confidence. When Caulker has played, Swansea have conceded 5 goals in 5 games (4 against City away, just 1 to Arsenal away) and held CS's against Wigan, Sunderland and Fulham at home.
Adebayor - Perhaps on penalties, on a hot streak of 5 goals in 4 games, at home to Sunderland who may or may not be competitive with MON.
Mata - Up against a shithouse Wigan 12 goals in their last 4 games at home, with Chelsea back to good form with 11 goals in their last 4 starts (including Valenca game) with Mata playing a part in 6 of those (5 assists and a goal). However breezing through the Chelsea forums, of the few people that have discussed it, they all seem to think Mata will be rested for Spurs 5 days later..
    Thoughts? I am truly stumped

Think it'd be Malouda to start over him, that's what is pushing me to Adebayor.

I highly doubt Mata will be rested, but admittedly its a concern.

I will be captaining Ba. His two goals were both great at the weekend, and with Bale and Spurs Im already heavily invested in Spurs attack without needing to captain Ade

I think Ba is safe. Swansea are dire away (though soa re Wigan of course). It just seems like every goal goes through him, whereas at Chelsea Mata can be hands down the best on the pitch and get nought.

Ba is were the goals are. Mata is where the joy and skill are.

I'm in a similar spot. I have Ade Ba VdV and don't know who to captain...I'm leaning towards Ba cuz Swansea are shite away from home and he's on pens...Ade is a good shout but I'm worried about how solid Sunderland will be under MON and Ade's pen situation. Considered doing Mata for VdV and captaining him or captaining VdV but its risky either way cuz VdV pen situation is unclear and he could be rested for Chelsea game but the same is true for Mata! Ba seems to be the safest bet IMO

I have Ade (C) at the moment, Sturridge (VC) with Mata and Bale my other considerations. I'd always go for a Striker with an easy fixture over a mid. I could easily see Ade scoring a hat-trick this weekend.

That's why I prefer Bale, and Adebayor I guess, to VDV.
Bale is fit as f*ck and could play 7 games a week, and run forever as 'Arry says, and Adebayor is pretty much irreplaceable as he has made such a big impact and there are no other real contenders for his position..
I will wait to see any news on Mata, if he is starting I will captain him, if not I will go Adebayor.

I think Silva is a good option for Captain when there are no big hitters with good fixtures so you can count on his 5-9 points..
But weeks like this is where you expect 20+ from your captain.

This gets suggested from time to time so apologies if it has been recently, but what's your team value if you go into the transfers page and deselect all 15 players? So basically your 'real' value?

Mines 102.4. Slightly below average I expect...

    RMT please folks

    Vorm

    Jones, BAE, Raylor

    Nani, Bale, Silva, VdV

    RvP, Yak, Ba (c)

    Subs: Westwood, Tiote, McAuley, Brown

Am a little worried by my keepers, but having already brought in Nani this week I'm loathed to change either as I'm trying to cut out taking hits (most people just out carbs or sugar, I cut out hits). Was planning on no transfers next week, but could use it to change a keeper if I have no other concerns (injuries, suspensions, cancellations) I have 5.1 to spend if it helps.

oh I thought you meant in your bank for a second then....woops.

Considering you'll probably play Vorm GW17, 18 and maybe 20 you probably only need a keeper for GW19, maybe 20 and 21 then WC. So how about Ruddy? I know it sounds crazy but for those stretch of fixtures, he's not bad.

For just GW19 and 21 I'd go for Foster.

Lol, properly researched my ticker for you then 😉

I am, but I'm also afraid of spending 4 points on a player for them not to play, short of doing Yak to Sturridge (and I plan on putting him in for Ba later) I don't see anything worth doing, as I not taking out the STI.

    Team for this Gameweek

    Vorm (Al-Habsi)
Jones, Enrique, Richards or Simpson?, (Orr)
    Nani, Mata, Silva, Bale
    Sturridge, RVP, Ba (C)

So yeh do I go with Richards or Simpson? Also Ba is home to Swansea who I think will ship some goals to a NCFC side looking to get themselves back into it after Norwich game.

How does this team look for this week? Was going to do VDV to Mata or Nani but thinking I might just stick with him and save the transfer:

    Vorm
    Simpson Enrique Jones
    Bale Silva VDV Walters
    RVP Ba Adebayor

    Ruddy, Dyer, Naylor, Gabbidon

    Krul (Vorm)
    JEnrique Jones Baines (Ward) (NTaylor)
    Silva Nani Walters Ramsey (Dyer)
    RVP Ba(c) Adebayor

Any glaring alterations? I can see a Ramsey > Larsson being beneficial, but it would cost me 4 points.

What do you think about Everton players over the next GWs?
Their next fixtures are NOR, SWA, sun, wba, BOL+tot, avl, BLA.

In my opinion Bilyaletdinov could be a great budget player (5.9) and a big differential. Also considering doing Shawcross -> Jagielka. I'm almost certain I'll do that actually!

Abit sceptical doubling up on Everton, though, considering their relatively low scoring start of the season. But, them fixtures sure look tempting!

    Thoughts?
