We had to wait until the final game of the day to find the disciplinary angle on Sunday’s proceedings, but sure as night follows day, it duly arrived in the shape of a fifth booking of the season for Arsenal’s Alex Song. His early yellow means that he’ll now be absent from the matchday squad for the visit to Aston Villa in midweek.

Replacing him on the suspension tightrope is teammate Mikel Arteta. Already a recipient of a league cup yellow in the early rounds for Everton, his booking today for a foul on Yaya Touré means he has now accrued a further three in the league for new club Arsenal, and takes up the spot on the tightrope vacated by Song.

There’s been some confusion about this as a result of talk of an earlier booking at Blackburn whilst with Everton. We’ve had it confirmed by Opta that this booking was never actually awarded (despite what other sources show); as a result, Arteta has now moved on to four yellow cards – one short of a ban. We will of course clarify this with the FA and confirm tomorrow.

With the other disciplinary matters of the gameweek rounded up in yesterday’s article, there’s just time for a final line to summarise the Luis Suarez situation: with the hearing into his alleged racism underway and a decision delayed until Tuesday at the earliest, there’s still some uncertainty as to whether we’ll know more before the gameweek 17 deadline of 19:30 GMT the same day. It’s entirely possible that if a decision is delayed again until Wednesday, and if a ban is handed out that afternoon, that he would be ineligible for Liverpool’s trip to Wigan in the evening. We’ll of course keep you posted as soon as we hear anything.

GAMEWEEK 17 BANS

  • Alex Song (Arsenal) – 5 Yellows (1 match)
  • David Wheater (Bolton) – 1 Red for serious foul play (Last of 4 matches)
  • Jay Spearing (Liverpool) – 1 Red for serious foul play (Last of 3 matches)
  • Yohan Cabaye (Newcastle) – 5 Yellows (1 match)
  • Dan Gosling (Newcastle) – 1 Red for serious foul play (Second of 3 matches)
  • Ryan Shawcross (Stoke) – 5 Yellows (1 match)

Liking your style, don't have the balls personally, but with Villa conceding goals from corners regularly (and not scoring goals themselves) it could be a wonderful.

Seeing Ba (c), Baines and Yakubu do nothing in the 3 o'clock ko Saturday, and then praying to the FPL Gods that Nani, Adebayor and RVP do equally as poorly is just a plain miserable way of spending one's fantasy weekend.

    Morning fellas!

Would love to get rooney in for two homegames, but it just isn't possible / there's no point in that - or what's your view on that??

    My team
    Vorm, Hilario
    Jones, Enrigue, Brown, Raylor, Wilkinson
    Silva, Nani, Vdv, Bale, Dyer
    Rvp, Ade, Ba

    0,2 in the bank

Could do Nani + Ade to Drenthe + Rooney, but seems a bit stupid..

        Thanks Jafa.
Have to play with that transfer button, but it seems quite difficult to get rid one of Nani (fixtures), Silva (value), Vdv (upcoming dgw, fantasy gold), Bale (value, fixtures, form).

It really cost me early season for not having rooney, so I would be quite stupid to let it happen twice! On the other hand, I'm prob not captaining him (RVP) so it wouldn't be that bad to go without him....ooohh well, had that sexy midfield for one week and now already thinking to change 🙁

Annoying how as the dgw approaches, the Holy Trinity seem to be going into their shells (VDV may be emerging from his now, but he already had a very lean spell). I still want them for the dgw, but the next few weeks could be a case of just hanging on to them.

OK so heres the deal. Im currently in 2nd and 50pts back of 1st in my money league.

    The current KEY differentials are:

HIM- Rooney, Jones, Etherington,Walker, Bale, Suarez

ME- Ba, Yakubu, Nani, Silva, VDV, Walters, Mertesacker

Any suggestions on who to (C) this week in order to catch up?

I think i have the odds with me if the likes of Silva, Yakubu and Ba do well i should be looking at a tasty gameweek.

Can someone please explain to me the 'handball' rule. I think it was Richards whose arm clearly made contact with the ball in the penalty box, however the ref didn't call it despite having a clear as day view... I was not happy to say the least!

    Vorm
    Simpson / Jagielka / Jones
    VDV / Mata / Nani / Silva
    RvP / Ba / Sturidge

    Bench: Krul / Naylor / J.Evans / Gower

I expect a CS from NEW and SWA, but am not sure from EVE.

    Two options:

    A:

    Sorenson, Ruddy
J Evans, BAE, Enrique, Santon, Naylor,
    Nani, Larrson, Silva, Bale, Moses
    Sturridge, Rooney, RVP

    or

    B.

    -----Sorenson, Ruddy
    --J evans--Richards,-Enrique- Santon, Naylor
    ---Nani----Drenthe-----Bale------Silva---Ferguson
    Sturridge, Rooney, RVP

    Which one and why?

    Cheers

      You couldve simply just asked

      A) BAE+Moses+Larsson

      or

      B) Richards+Ferguson+Drenthe

you didnt have to jummble up the same players in diffrernt order to confuse people...

    team for this week
    Cerny
    Jones Enrique Caulker
    Silva Mata Nani Bale
    RVP(c) Adebayor Sturridge

    Vorm Pilkington Shotton McAuley
    0.0
Thinkin of using my free transfer to do Pilkington to Moses as with rest and rotation this week i need a strong bench.. frees up cash to upgrade McAuley next week too.. thoughts?

Better than some others downgrade their big hitting midfielders to the 4.5-5.5 midfielders to get him in.
