[sbu_large_image] The Knee Jerk

And relax. Even before tomorrow night’s top of the bill clash at the Lane, this is no ordinary gameweek. Wednesday’s avalanche of goals and assists left us breathless at times, as United and City ruthlessly exposed opponents who simply looked out of their depth. And yet, as anticipated in yesterday’s preamble, there were cruel barbed surprises packaged amongst the night’s bounty of points.

The goals flowed, with popular Fantasy properties delivering – Nani, Sergio Aguero, Robin Van Persie, Wayne Rooney, Demba Ba – all players that boast huge ownerships throughout the Fantasy games, came good. Incredibly, the defenders also got in on the act: clean sheets for City, United, Liverpool and even Everton, brought profits at the back, on a night of handsome attacking hauls.

For some however, the clean sheets were soiled. The jaw injury sustained by Phil Jones will have robbed many of rewards from United’s win – a potential absence, with early reports already suggesting six weeks – will perhaps hit harder than the points lost. We await news from tomorrow’s x-rays, keeping the knees from jerking until we have confirmation.

The withdrawal of Micah Richards on 58 minutes was even more sickening. Feeling the effects of Dean Whitehead’s studs down his calf, the raiding right-back was preserved by Roberto Mancini, just two minutes from claiming his Fantasy owners a clean sheet from City’s oh-so comfortable win.

Twenty-four hours ago, we discussed such twists. The injustice will be hard to swallow right now, but those who felt the sting of tonight’s events, can be assured that these won’t be the last curveballs thrown. Off to the Lane.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I see Young is out 2-3 weeks. You know what that means, Valencia is nailed on!! Was going to bring Rooney in but now I'm thinking about Valencia and maybe Aguero up front... thoughts?

But with Jones and Ferdinand...and Vidic out and Rafeal only just fit...it could mean Smalling and Evans at CB and Valencia at RB. Reverse out of position alert.

He'll play though, that's for sure.

Thanks for the warning but I understand Ferdinand just had a niggle or something, team news mo longer lists him as injured and he's in the first team list. Surely Smalling RB, covering long enough so Rafael can come in.

Ferdinand is definitely out of the wigan game...SAF has confirmed it.

Evans and Smalling are all he has left. Rafeal could come back in, but may need a sub appearance first.

I don't think you can go too wrong with getting Valencia, but he may spend a good portion of the game defending.

Have Nani and Evans already but my planned differential of sorts is to go all in with Rooney, Nani and Evans because I think it'll be a slaughter home to Wigan and Blackburn. It's a gamble but a fairly low risk one with epic potential.

I think he was joking/ being sarcastic.

          on Robin van Persie…
He keeps going. Of course you always have that question when he plays against Manchester City and then again with that intensity, do I rest him? At the moment he feels alright so I just take a gamble. Now we have a little breather to prepare for our home game and let's hope we can win then.

We have to give credit to Villa tonight, we know they always give us a good reception here. They always make it very difficult for us.

          on approaching Alan Shearer's record…
Now I will start to rest him!

Damn, can't he wait until GW20 before giving him a rest. Longer rest between GW17-18 than 18-19 so maybe he gets benched for QPR?

Play v Wolves (now 27th), miss the QPR game 31st and play away at Fulham 2nd Jan.

Can't see it being anything else to be honest. Pushing the Wolves game back a day, just makes RVP an even more certain starter and squashes the QPR game even more.

The QPR game could end up a little risky but many who play that game will play in the FA Cup game with Leeds, whereas the one's who played last night will play against Wolves and Fulham. (with Song back in)

Sczecesny, Vermaelen, Mertesacker and Koscielny will most likely play all the league games over this period.

Got back in the wee hours of this morning after some epic travelling by plane, train and automobile to get from Nanjing China to Manchester (via Dubai).

Absolutely delighted when I opened fantasy this fine morning. Demba did the business, RVP was back to his usual points scoring ways and Nani is now officially flying. Even Royston is starting to deliver 8)

Bit gutted about Jones though. Only just brought him back into my team and now I'm going to have to drop him again. Does anyone think it's worth waiting until we get further news?

    Krul, Vorm

    Enrique, ShawX, Evans, BAE, Baines

    Walcott, Walters, VDV, Brunt, Dyer

    Adebayor, RVP, Ba

2 free transfers - Baines will be one of them (I've lost patience), I'm thinking to Caulker, which will leave me 3.9 to spend elsewhere.

Looking at getting United cover in, so options are:

    A. Walters - Nani
    B. Adebayor - Rooney
    C. Other

Any other ideas or priorities folks?

      C. Other

      walcott to nani or silva

instead of baines to caulker, maybe baines to skrtel or a city defender? you can still do walcott to nani/silva then.

i'd hang on to ade at least until the DGW...wait to see how the game goes today.

Anyone think it's worth doing Mata -> Nani?

Or is Dyer -> Ben Arfa better?

Or is Jones out a priority?!

1 FT and 0.9 in the bank.

    Vorm - Given
    Jones - Jagielka - Enrique - Simpson - J Evans
    Dyer - Walters - Mata - Silva - Johnson B
Sturridge - Adebayor - Van Persie

Chelsea's fixtures are also good, so Mata to Nani doesn't seem an obvious move to me.

Jones to Smalling? (subject to injury news).

Ben Arfa isn't a starter, so ignore that option, downgrade Jones to Smalling maybe, or a cheap defender, and then maybe bring in Drenthe, or a similar priced mid for dyer.

Richards (if injury last night wasnt serious)

Obviously I'd want to keep Utd coverage but Johnny Evans can come in for another of your cheaper DFs.

In terms of attacking potential and goal threat then Richards (or Tommy V) are the only ones who can come close to replacing that Jonesy sized hole in DF

posted this earlier but wanted more opinions

    team is:

    vorm, krul
    raylor, jones, naylor, enrique, simpson
    vdv, silva, ramsey, eagles, gower
    rooney, dzeko, ade
    2FT & 0.4m

    (A) dzeko –> morison; ade –> sturridge; eagles –> nani for a 4 point hit?

    (B) dzeko --> sturridge; raylor --> skrtel

if i did A, i'd miss out on ade for the DGW. B means midfield is still a bit weak. any thoughts?
