Alex McLeish is given a welcome fitness boost ahead of Villa’s trip to Stoke. Sir Alex Ferguson admits he will continue to rotate David De Gea, while Seamus Coleman is ruled out of Everton’s game at Sunderland:

Sir Alex Ferguson looks like he will continue to frustrate owners of David De Gea after once again resting him in favor of Anders Lindegaard last night. The United boss admitted he will use Lindegaard as the season goes on to give De Gea a rest whenever he deems necessary:

It’s not a problem because I think Anders has that little bit more experience. I felt his was the right time to change and we’re going to do that with David. He’s only 20 years of age and is going to be a fantastic goalkeeper, there’s absolutely no doubt about that. Having Anders as a back-up in terms of giving the lad a break at the right time, is proving its worth. Anders is an outstanding goalkeeper and has a little bit more experience.

Scans have revealed that Bolton defender Marcos Alonso has not broken his foot as first feared. After the game at Ewood Park, manager Owen Coyle was worried that Alonso was facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines, but the injury is said to be superficial, with the left-back due to see a specialist to determine the extent of the problem.

Peter Crouch, who missed last night’s game at Manchester City, could be back to face former club Aston Villa on Boxing Day. Crouch spent some time in hospital yesterday after complaining of headaches, but Tony Pulis has allayed fears that the problem is too serious. The Stoke boss also confirmed that Matthew Etherington was rested against City to ensure that he was fit to face Villa on Boxing Day.

Alex McLeish had plenty of positive injury news to report today. The Villa boss expects Darren Bent, James Collins, Emile Heskey and Stephen Ireland to all be available for the trip to Stoke. Ireland lasted just 44 minutes against Arsenal last night but Big Eck revealed fatigue was the problem, with the midfielder having suffered from illness all week. Chris Herd is expected to be out for a further two weeks with an ankle problem.

Arsenal have moved their home game with Wolves, initially scheduled for Boxing Day, back a day to the 27th as a result of the proposed industrial action on the London Underground. This scuppers any chance of a potential double gameweek, with the fixture still falling under gameweek 18. Chelsea’s game with Fulham will go ahead at 1pm, as scheduled.

Angel Rangel returned from injury for Swansea last night, coming on for the injured Neil Taylor at Everton. Taylor is due to have a scan on a knee problem sustained in the 1-0 Goodison loss, with the extent as of yet unknown. Swans boss Brendan Rodgers said:

We’ll have a wee look in the morning. I’m not sure what he has done. I haven’t spoke to the medics yet but it was obviously too sore to continue.

Seamus Coleman has been ruled out of Everton’s Boxing Day trip to Sunderland after aggravating a thigh problem in last night’s game against Swansea. David Moyes admitted the Toffees have one or two knocks but was typically evasive on the matter.

Took a large chunk of his left leg away by all accounts. The tourniquet held but the groundsmen at Villa Park reported large amounts of blood on the pitch along with a few very large sharp teeth which were consistent with the attack of a Carcharodon carcharias

Thoughts on how many points will be needed to get through the qualifying round of the fantasy cup? I'm ranked 5k, but don't think I will make it. I'm on 46p with Bale to play....

Nani owners, are you thinking of throwing Valencia into the mix up too? I can get Rooney but Ade and Spurs could tear Norwich a new one and it will involve a hit to get 4DGW players in time.

I got cash to do Jones + Dyer ---> Evans + Valencia for no hit. Team linked, any better ideas?

not a bad shout. if i was looking for an 8m midfielder he's about the best there is for the next 4 weeks.

in your position though i'd wait and see what the vdv/bale situation is though, one of them for the dgw could be better.

personally not a fan of 'interim transfers', ie get valencia for 2 weeks then switch to bale. usually just ends up costing you points with hits when the next injuries and bandwagons come along.

3 simple questions, need ur opinions asap:

    1) jones> shotton or enrique?

    2) aguero ➡ rooney worth a 4 pt hit?

3)pick one for the boxing day gameweek: brown, naylor or ward

Naylor could be out, everton not scoring well so brown could be a good shout, not worth the hit, ennrique more nailed on. I expect shotton to be rotated

he's played 360 mins in his last 4 games. don't think he's a rotation risk at all. just need to decide who will keep more cleanies, l'pool or stoke

        anyway, thanks for answering

That would be my worry he is only young only his first season where he has broken into the first team and is probably due a rest as he played in europe also.

Plenty to replace him in terms of defenders at Stoke and Pennant could well get back into Pulis's good books to take the right wing slot

Shotton had a shocker by all accounts last night, that said I think all the stoke players did

      Kaz, IMO,

      1) Luis
      2) No, with caveat depending on any other MC/MU coverage (Silva/Nani perhaps?). If no MU and you have Silva, then yes.
      3) Must be Brown. Naylor decent second (if he plays) but not Ward with a bargepole.

I've checked your team and would say YES to question 2. Think Aguero could get rotated given so many fixs over next 10 days, but less chance of Rooney missing games.

It will be very interesting to see how Pardew reacts to losing three goals last night. Newcastle were very defensive at the start of the season and I wonder if they will revert back to a safety first attitude.

VdV, Sturridge, Mata I'd expect to come through.

Ade, minus service of Lennon and Bale - stuck with only VdV - may let you down.

    Naylor's home fixtures after QPR:

Tott Arse Chels Nor (CS wreckers) City

May just take the profit and run to JEvans. Have Vorm - and Caulker can come in the WC.

Injury an FPL blessing in disguise?

Yeah I was looking at that. If Vorm keeps going up, there's an argument to get rid and cash the profit during the WC. Blasphemous I know.

mmm, cheers. Shame about Naylor, him and Simpson have been two of my favourite buys.

Naylor to JEvans and Caulker to come on board during the WC, by which time only City is a bad home game till the end of the season.

That's a pretty persuasive point. Problem is, Vorm is a season keeper, and its doubtful he'll drop to make it worth bringing him back in.

Suppose you could trade some £ for a better source of gk points over that period, but I have Krul in backup, and I can't see any obvious affordable upgrades.

    Currently have:

    Krul Kenny
    Jose Baines Walker Evans Caulker
    Silva VDV Ohara Dyer Drente
    Ade RVP Ba

I could have done Nani and Shotton in for Baines and Ohara but price rises have ended that.

Now thinking over Valencia in for O’hara and to downgrade Baines to another??

Then Losing Ba next week for the Sturridge?

what are you doing with given? i was gonna get rid to free up cash, but if jones is injured i might just stick til wcard, as i won't need the money and its just another transfer to make. happy for vorm to do his stuff in the meantime. what you thinking?

I am happy with Vorm for QPR. Then it gets a bit ropey with TOT, CHE and ARS coming up. I have no pressing concerns for GW19 if I make my moves (at top of page in post u commented on) so I am hoping to do Given--->Sorensen after boxing day games.

nah i think you're right, sorensen is a good move. rotation with vorm isn't ideal gw19 - 20 but its gravy after that. also i reckon sorr is well underpriced as the first choice stoke gk.

only trouble is it's yet another transfer when i've got other injuries and a dgw to prepare for. i'll basically only do it before wc if i need the cash.
