[sbu_large_image] Suspensions

It may seem a little mundane in the light of the more headline-grabbing disciplinary matters this week, but the sheer number of games at this time of year means that cards and suspensions come along at a rate of knots, so keeping on top of them can give you the edge you may need over your rivals.

Peering through the mists created by the Luis Suarez decision, you will have seen that Kyle Naughton disappeared from our suspension tightrope on Tuesday night and was bundled away into the isolation of a one-match ban. However, as tweeted and picked up in the Scout Notes yesterday morning – this suspension will be served against parent club Spurs, in a match he would have missed anyway due to his loan arrangement. Replacing Naughton on the Suspension Tightrope this morning will be Fabricio Coloccini. The Newcastle skipper earned his fourth yellow card of the season for a foul on Peter Odemwingie late on in the loss to West Brom and will face a one-game suspension if he is booked in either of the next two games against Bolton or Liverpool.

In addition to Coloccini, Fulham defender Chris Baird and Liverpool striker Craig Bellamy also received their fourth cautions in last night’s games. Baird joins the massed ranks from Fulham for a foul on Danny Welbeck after 62 mins of the comprehensive defeat to Manchester United, with Bellamy the sole Liverpool representative thanks to a show of dissent in the 0-0 draw with Wigan. They, too, will now run the two-game gauntlet until the criteria is extended to 10 yellows before a ban kicks in.

Next up, in the dying stages of Aston Villa’s defeat to Arsenal last night, Villa’s ex-Spurs full-back Alan Hutton was sent off for 2 yellow cards in the space of 80 injury time seconds to earn a (slightly) early bath. His first, for a show of dissent after 92 minutes, was quickly followed by the second, for a rash tackle on Thomas Vermaelen. He’ll now be missing for the Boxing Day clash at Stoke.

And finally, we are trying to clear up a little confusion surrounding Wolves defender Richard Stearman. Avid readers of these pages may remember, that having appeared on the tightrope in Gameweek Fourteen, Stearman was duly removed following an update to the Opta stats that saw him return to 3 bookings. However, through discussion with The FA, we’ve learned that their disciplinary department have him recorded with 4 bookings: presumably meaning that a fifth will still incur their wrath. We’ve therefore added him back to our tightrope for now until this can be clarified further.

GAMEWEEK 18 BANS

  • Alan Hutton (Aston Villa) – 1 Red for 2 Yellows (1 match)
  • Dan Gosling (Newcastle) – 1 Red for serious foul play (Last of 3 matches)
  • Kyle Naughton (Norwich) – 5 Yellows (1 match)

SUSPENSION TIGHTROPE – FOUR BOOKINGS

  • Mikel Arteta (Arsenal)
  • Stiliyan Petrov (Aston Villa)
  • Míchel Salgado (Blackburn)
  • Nigel Reo-Coker (Bolton)
  • Paul Robinson (Bolton)
  • Frank Lampard (Chelsea)
  • Raul Meireles (Chelsea)
  • Ramires (Chelsea)
  • Chris Baird (Fulham)
  • Moussa Dembélé (Fulham)
  • Brede Hangeland (Fulham)
  • Danny Murphy (Fulham)
  • Steve Sidwell (Fulham)
  • Craig Bellamy (Liverpool)
  • Fabricio Coloccini (Newcastle)
  • Glenn Whelan (Stoke)
  • Scott Parker (Tottenham)
  • Steven Reid (West Brom)
  • Paul Scharner (West Brom)
  • Richard Stearman (Wolves)

    Lads, whoever gives the best answer gets to see a pick of my hot stepmom.

    I have a dilemma. I think Rooney could well go mad over the next 3/4 GWs. However I refuse to sell RVP (and Sturridge) - so the only striker I could lose is Adebayor.

    To fund the Ade -> Rooney, I would have to downgrade Walters or Bale (not selling Silva / Nani). Bale would go to Drenthe; or Walters to Surman (who would be my 4th midfielder - I have Ferg 🙁 ... )

    So is it worth either wrecking my Spurs double gameweek plans to accomodate Rooney (although Drenthe also has a DGW) - or risking Surman and preserving Bale? OR, f*ck Rooney?

    Cheers.

      Options -

      A = Ade to Rooney, Bale to Drenthe (thus ruining Spurs DGW plans)
      B = Ade to Rooney, Walters to Surman (as my 4th mid)
      C = F*ck Rooney

          Surman ~ Moses
          Nani v Bale could go either way because of the Spurs double

      I don't suppose it's possible to change the IN to Evans, Valencia, Surman & Rooney?

      Something to think about, although I'm sure you probably have already.

      8 pt hit to get rid of Bale so close to double GW is perhaps a little risky if he's fit for the next match though.

          Is Moses to Surman necessary to add Wilko to Vermaelen to the above mentioned transfers? If not, then I wouldn't do it. If yes, then that's a thinker, Vermaelen is very tempting.

    A) Drenthe + J.Evans + VDV (in for Ohara, Bale, and P.Jones)

    or

    Now Silva > Nani and Jones > Evans worth a 4 point hit?

    Silva has two away fixtures versus Nani's "juicy" home games v WIG and BLA. What is the feeling about these moves (team linked).

          I dont know if he will or not but a lot of people are selling without the full facts. Personally I would not sell Sliva...Man City are out of the CL and its all about beating UTD to the title...they have a plus GD of 38 approx so they will only want to win more and more. Not to be a pain but cant you fit both in? 😉

    Repost,

    Morning guys, it is time to say goodbye to Baines. Team is:

    Vorm
    Vermaelen – Baines – Enrique
    Walters – Silva – VDV – Drenthe
    VP – Adebayor – Ba

    Subs : Ruddy – Caulker, Simpson, Gower
    2FT & 1.4M on my savings

    As far as I can see it I have 3 options:
    1) Baines, Walters out -> Evans, Nani in
    2) Baines, Gower out -> Evans, Valencia in
    3) Baines , Ba out -> 4.2 DF, Rooney in (probably GW19)

    I really don’t like to kick out Walters with his fixtures but prefer Nani over Valencia. Option 1 and 2 give me a chance to replace Ba by Sturridge in GW19.

    What do you think is the best option. Or any possibilities out there? Thx.

    REPOST

    Would really value a bit of input on potential changes if possible, 1 FT £0m in the bank (team linked if you want it).

    1) Ward --> Evans
    2) Silva & N Dyer --> Nani & Surman
    3) Silva & Ward --> Nani & Shotton
    4) Silva & N Dyer --> Walters & Valencia
    5) Other

    Cheers in advance

    Everybody looking for Jones replacement. What about Huth? I like his next 6 home games. I might do the WC after GW 23. He has enormous goal threat. One or 2 goals and his price will go rocket high. I know everybody are going probably with Liv defenders but I fancy next 2 home games for CS's for Stoke, more than the Liv one. Bla and New are more than capable to score than Villa and Wigan atm. Also Liv can't go like this forever,. The law of averages says that they will probably concede at least in one of the next 2.

    Also 0.3m cheaper. I like the most the fact that he can explode and bring u a 15pointer. I got lucky with Lesccott last year, going by the same logic.

    Thoughts please

    Spencer says:

    Anyone feeling Osman over Drenthe?

    Jones -> Assou-Ekotto and Dyer -> Osman/Drenthe for a 4 point hit.

    Thinking about Jones out regardless of his injury.

    Vorm – Given
    Jones – Jagielka – Enrique – Simpson – J Evans
    Dyer – Walters – Mata – Silva – B Johnson
    Sturridge – Adebayor – Van Persie

    Morning all.

    Krul, Vorm
    Jones, Kompany, Evans, Simpson, NTaylor
    Silva, Nani, Bale, Walters, Dyer
    RVP, Sturridge, Ba

    1 FT, 0.7 in bank

    Injuries are starting to mount up for me: Jones, Bale, Dyer, NTaylor.

    What should I do with my free transfer to make sure I'm covered over Christmas period? I'd like to get Dyer out, but thinking maybe I need to make sure I've got enough defenders?

    Thanks!

    Two frees, 0.0 in the bank, here's my team:

    Krul (Vorm)

    Enrique - Jones - Kompany - Simpson (Naylor)

    Nani - Silva - Bale - Sinclair - (Johnson)

    Adabayor - Van Man (Morison)

    Considering:

    Jones > Smalling / Evans / Rio Ferdinand (Is this lunacy? Rio's 0.1 mil cheaper and surely set for starts?)
    Bale > ??? (I briefly considered Valencia, but I have Nani, doubling up could be a bit risky) Other thoughts include Arteta, Dempsey... suggestions on this would be appreciated
    Naylor > No idea, just discovered he may be injured. Drat.

    The Sky FF game is limited to 30 transfers for the whole season so it's a tricky s.o.b.

    I captained Rooney this GW which started Tuesday and ends Boxing Day. I did this cos I thought RVP v Wolves would be moved forward 24hrs and out of the current GW so it seems like the smart move.

    However, because of so few transfers in this game, no squads (11 players only) and no free transfers each week does it really matter that I have Rooney playing twice in a GW to RVP's 1? With so little transfer activity surely it doesn't have much impact?

    Any more news on Bale?

    I'm bizarrely not too bothered now if he doesn't play as I moved Brown to 1st sub, over Ward at the last minute. But the good news is that if he plays he's less likely to drop and more likely to play the next few games.
