[sbu_large_image] Suspensions

It may seem a little mundane in the light of the more headline-grabbing disciplinary matters this week, but the sheer number of games at this time of year means that cards and suspensions come along at a rate of knots, so keeping on top of them can give you the edge you may need over your rivals.

Peering through the mists created by the Luis Suarez decision, you will have seen that Kyle Naughton disappeared from our suspension tightrope on Tuesday night and was bundled away into the isolation of a one-match ban. However, as tweeted and picked up in the Scout Notes yesterday morning – this suspension will be served against parent club Spurs, in a match he would have missed anyway due to his loan arrangement. Replacing Naughton on the Suspension Tightrope this morning will be Fabricio Coloccini. The Newcastle skipper earned his fourth yellow card of the season for a foul on Peter Odemwingie late on in the loss to West Brom and will face a one-game suspension if he is booked in either of the next two games against Bolton or Liverpool.

In addition to Coloccini, Fulham defender Chris Baird and Liverpool striker Craig Bellamy also received their fourth cautions in last night’s games. Baird joins the massed ranks from Fulham for a foul on Danny Welbeck after 62 mins of the comprehensive defeat to Manchester United, with Bellamy the sole Liverpool representative thanks to a show of dissent in the 0-0 draw with Wigan. They, too, will now run the two-game gauntlet until the criteria is extended to 10 yellows before a ban kicks in.

Next up, in the dying stages of Aston Villa’s defeat to Arsenal last night, Villa’s ex-Spurs full-back Alan Hutton was sent off for 2 yellow cards in the space of 80 injury time seconds to earn a (slightly) early bath. His first, for a show of dissent after 92 minutes, was quickly followed by the second, for a rash tackle on Thomas Vermaelen. He’ll now be missing for the Boxing Day clash at Stoke.

And finally, we are trying to clear up a little confusion surrounding Wolves defender Richard Stearman. Avid readers of these pages may remember, that having appeared on the tightrope in Gameweek Fourteen, Stearman was duly removed following an update to the Opta stats that saw him return to 3 bookings. However, through discussion with The FA, we’ve learned that their disciplinary department have him recorded with 4 bookings: presumably meaning that a fifth will still incur their wrath. We’ve therefore added him back to our tightrope for now until this can be clarified further.

GAMEWEEK 18 BANS

  • Alan Hutton (Aston Villa) – 1 Red for 2 Yellows (1 match)
  • Dan Gosling (Newcastle) – 1 Red for serious foul play (Last of 3 matches)
  • Kyle Naughton (Norwich) – 5 Yellows (1 match)

SUSPENSION TIGHTROPE – FOUR BOOKINGS

  • Mikel Arteta (Arsenal)
  • Stiliyan Petrov (Aston Villa)
  • Míchel Salgado (Blackburn)
  • Nigel Reo-Coker (Bolton)
  • Paul Robinson (Bolton)
  • Frank Lampard (Chelsea)
  • Raul Meireles (Chelsea)
  • Ramires (Chelsea)
  • Chris Baird (Fulham)
  • Moussa Dembélé (Fulham)
  • Brede Hangeland (Fulham)
  • Danny Murphy (Fulham)
  • Steve Sidwell (Fulham)
  • Craig Bellamy (Liverpool)
  • Fabricio Coloccini (Newcastle)
  • Glenn Whelan (Stoke)
  • Scott Parker (Tottenham)
  • Steven Reid (West Brom)

    Morning All,

Finally a good week moved up 100k. Worse season ever so far.

    Vorn Westwood
    Kompany Jones Enrique Simpson Wilkinson
    Drenthe Silva Nani Bale Gower
    Adebayor Baa RVP

    2FT 0.5 in bank
Gonna do Jones to Evans once we know news, but Im tempted with the cash it frees up to do Drenthe>Valencia for the next two weeks, worth it? Or stick and save transfer. Thanks

    A conundrum gentlemen...

    VDV & Suarez > Bale & Hernandez.

    or

    VDV & Suarez > Walters & Rooney.

I know Bale is currently injured, but by the sounds of things, he'll be grand for Norwich & the DGW. Getting him in for VDV maintains Tott coverage. Hernandez will get minute in the next two games, and goals... But how many?

Walters has a couple of sweet home fixtures, and Rooney plays 90 most games and looks in fine form.. But will Fergie rest him in one of the next two, given he's got Welbs, Chico and Berbs at his disposal? Or drop him into midfield?

    The mind boggles.

    Thoughts?

For people still with VDV, Bale and Ade, are you worried that you're being blinded by the DGW in the distance? Hanging onto these three means I can't bring in Rooney, who I think could go mental in the next 2 games. VDV, Bale and Ade could all be inj / rotated in the next 2 games. For example, I'd much rather have Rooney + Walters instead of Ade + VDV right now...

I have Bale and Ade, and I am worried, Rooney could easily go mental next week. However, he could also be rested/benched for one of those easy games. My only other option would be to sell RVP, but that would be madness atm. Squeaky bum time indeed!

I see your point. I got rid of Ade. Felt I was holding him while his form is a little cold (by his standards) just because of a looming DGW. So I cut him loose and ended up sticking with VDV as Spurs coverage.

I'll be bringing in Bale and Ade before the DGW though even if for a slight hit

guys right now I can afford Baines Dyer to Evans Valencia, but I have to do it before price drop/rise. My other option would be to ship Bale out and get Vermaleen instead of Evans and bring in Etherington>Drenthe along with Valencia for a 4 pt hit…

Thing is I want Bale, should I try to wait it out for Bale and do first move or just ship him and do second?

In the same situation, with NTaylor as well, pretty much have no choice but to keep him and hoping (but not expecting) to be rewarded.

It's not really affecting the rest of my team right now, just...the rest of my defence.

I did Naylor > caulker last gw so covered with that move, but I'm stuck with the same Bale/Ade dilemma as many others on here.

I'm considering Jones > Caulker and Ade > Rooney for a 4 point hit, trebling up on Swans defence if Naylor is fit...if he isn't, Simpson comes in. Then get Evans the next week.

Either that, or do VDV/Silva > Nani and Jones > Jevans.

Caulker is a bargain at 3.9 (due a price rise soon no doubt). Tempted by the Ade > Rooney move too, but doing Jones > Evans still leaves me .2 short. Got Nani already fortunately.

i'd leave your strikers as they are for a good while no need to touch them, get valencia in he's finding a bit a form and should be nailed on with the young injury.

If thats your case I would go for V&W, you keep M.U. cover and you get an excellent bonus that is Walters and his tasty future fixtures.

i think they both have about the same potential to score so id go for the cheaper option nani, also there are more appealing strikers than mids, rvp sturridge ade are the strikers set for a while imo and then have nani, spurs midfielder and silva in midfield, just my opinion.

tough one. rooney looked good last night, but he was still taking up very deep positions at times and i'm not sure he had that many efforts on goal before he scored? he is on pens and free kicks though and is the most nailed on united striker, and they could get a lot of goals in the next 2.

the problem is most people would have to decimate their team to get him, whereas nani is fairly easy to get. but, you can sort your team out again with the wildcard in 2 weeks.

      tl;dr i don't know basically.

His set-pieces is whats making me go Rooney.. not so bad if he begins to feed Welbeck and Hernandez upfront, it means some breakthrough passes will come back for him to finish.. hypotheticalyl of course..

This is for the Sky FF where there are only 30 transfers for the whole season and only a starting Xl. I have 6 transfers left from January 1st until the end of the season. Have a look at my team below and my proposed changes. Do I leave my team as it is until April time to try and finish strong ir make the changes and hope noone gets injured and I can do nothing about it?

Your help would be much appreciated on this one.

    My team is
    ---------------

    Friedel

    Jones N.Taylor Riise

    Walcott Adam Silva Mata Bale

    Rooney RVP

    --------------------------------------------------

    I was thinking
    -------------------

    Vorm

    Vermaelen Enrique Evans Riise

    Silva Mata Bale

    Sturridge Rooney RVP

Will Nani and Valencia be decent united cover until the new year? I dont have rooney, have RVP but just cannot justify the change with two united mids in decent form already. I figure if rooney has a barnstormer then they would play some part in it.

Also, I did Jones to Jags, completely ignoring evans as nailed on. D'oh!

I could do Drenthe > Valencia for 2 GWs... and then bring Drenthe in for DGW

Or Bale > Valencia for the 2 GWs.

It's a tough one as Valencia is certainly in form.

totally agree, been looking at a way to get valencia in and already have nani, cant justify rooney at his price and also there are more appealing strikers to have in, rvp, ade ,sturridge being the main 3 and also ba, aguero, even suarez until after his appeal date.

Hi guys, got what i feel is an ok team but worried about lack of united cover. Current team is:

    Vorm (krul)

    Enrique, Baines, Shawcross (tierney) (simpson)

    Mata Brunt Drenthe Silva (dyer)

    RVP Adebayor yakubu

Want to get rid of yakubu, have 3.4m in bank and only one transfer

Options i see are leave yak away to liverpool, and bring nani in for either mata silva (want to keep silva really so guess would be mata but chelsea have ok fixtures over next few weeks too) and then week after swap yak for sturridge

Or i can take a 4 point hit and do (a) mata + yak -> Rooney and 6.8m mid
Or (b) mata + yak -> Nani and 8.4mil mid (sturridge +1.2m in bank?)

    Any thoughts or other suggestions?
