[sbu_large_image] Suspensions

It may seem a little mundane in the light of the more headline-grabbing disciplinary matters this week, but the sheer number of games at this time of year means that cards and suspensions come along at a rate of knots, so keeping on top of them can give you the edge you may need over your rivals.

Peering through the mists created by the Luis Suarez decision, you will have seen that Kyle Naughton disappeared from our suspension tightrope on Tuesday night and was bundled away into the isolation of a one-match ban. However, as tweeted and picked up in the Scout Notes yesterday morning – this suspension will be served against parent club Spurs, in a match he would have missed anyway due to his loan arrangement. Replacing Naughton on the Suspension Tightrope this morning will be Fabricio Coloccini. The Newcastle skipper earned his fourth yellow card of the season for a foul on Peter Odemwingie late on in the loss to West Brom and will face a one-game suspension if he is booked in either of the next two games against Bolton or Liverpool.

In addition to Coloccini, Fulham defender Chris Baird and Liverpool striker Craig Bellamy also received their fourth cautions in last night’s games. Baird joins the massed ranks from Fulham for a foul on Danny Welbeck after 62 mins of the comprehensive defeat to Manchester United, with Bellamy the sole Liverpool representative thanks to a show of dissent in the 0-0 draw with Wigan. They, too, will now run the two-game gauntlet until the criteria is extended to 10 yellows before a ban kicks in.

Next up, in the dying stages of Aston Villa’s defeat to Arsenal last night, Villa’s ex-Spurs full-back Alan Hutton was sent off for 2 yellow cards in the space of 80 injury time seconds to earn a (slightly) early bath. His first, for a show of dissent after 92 minutes, was quickly followed by the second, for a rash tackle on Thomas Vermaelen. He’ll now be missing for the Boxing Day clash at Stoke.

And finally, we are trying to clear up a little confusion surrounding Wolves defender Richard Stearman. Avid readers of these pages may remember, that having appeared on the tightrope in Gameweek Fourteen, Stearman was duly removed following an update to the Opta stats that saw him return to 3 bookings. However, through discussion with The FA, we’ve learned that their disciplinary department have him recorded with 4 bookings: presumably meaning that a fifth will still incur their wrath. We’ve therefore added him back to our tightrope for now until this can be clarified further.

GAMEWEEK 18 BANS

  • Alan Hutton (Aston Villa) – 1 Red for 2 Yellows (1 match)
  • Dan Gosling (Newcastle) – 1 Red for serious foul play (Last of 3 matches)
  • Kyle Naughton (Norwich) – 5 Yellows (1 match)

SUSPENSION TIGHTROPE – FOUR BOOKINGS

  • Mikel Arteta (Arsenal)
  • Stiliyan Petrov (Aston Villa)
  • Míchel Salgado (Blackburn)
  • Nigel Reo-Coker (Bolton)
  • Paul Robinson (Bolton)
  • Frank Lampard (Chelsea)
  • Raul Meireles (Chelsea)
  • Ramires (Chelsea)
  • Chris Baird (Fulham)
  • Moussa Dembélé (Fulham)
  • Brede Hangeland (Fulham)
  • Danny Murphy (Fulham)
  • Steve Sidwell (Fulham)
  • Craig Bellamy (Liverpool)
  • Fabricio Coloccini (Newcastle)
  • Glenn Whelan (Stoke)
  • Scott Parker (Tottenham)
  • Steven Reid (West Brom)
  • Paul Scharner (West Brom)
  • Richard Stearman (Wolves)

I think FPL have breached their promise if I read this right

"Bonus points will be awarded on the Monday morning after the weekend matches are played. Any matches played on a weekday night will be awarded on the following morning"

I read this as the 2 matches played Tuesday we should have had Wednesday, and last nights matches we should have had this morning ?

    Krul Vorm
    Baines Jones JEnirique NTaylor Ward
    Silva Nani Larsson Walters Dyer
    RVP Ba Adebayor

2 FT, 0.3m in the bank.

    Was thinking:
    Adebayor > Rooney
    Baines > McAuley

But it all depends on how long Jones and NTaylor are out for. What do you think?!

    Vorm - Ruddy
    Jones - Verm - Evans - Enrique - Simpson
    Nani - Silva - Walters - Moses - Allen
    Ba - RvP - Sturridge

    £2.5m in bank.

Depending on the status of Jones, was thinking bringing Ade, Bale, and Walker in by the DGW.

Or do 3 trades for -4.

          Downgrade Baines to Hibbert/Gallas/BAE etc
          Ba to Sturridge
And then you may be able to lose someone less crucial from your midfield for Nani.

I'm planning something very similar to this myself.

SAF already made a big mistake putting Roon is CM. He's our best attacker by a country mile and is lost in MF. Maybe it helped to shore things up for a game or two after the city demolition. But after that it was just holding us back.

I would rather see Carrick plus Giggs/Park on rotation with Rooney upfront but coming back into MF naturally as he usually does.

I know you're not keen on losing any of the Tottenham three, but I think one of them could go until the DGW without doing too much damage.

Out of the three choices - I would say C, because it's less crippling to your team.

Thanks everyone. I think i'm going to go for it and keep jones. I have adebayor and drenthe for DGW and most of the spurs goals should go through ade. Just worried about the hit because of the cup next week. Would hate to leave in the first round!

For the next 2 weeks yeah, but you will only want Bale back for GW20 and Nani could be rotated in 1 of the next 2 games (although Jones' and Young's injury should help prevent this)

Tough one! I would say go for it since Raylor looks fooked

0.2 short of a Jones > Skrtel and Bale > Nani 4 pointer. Unfortunate.

So looks like I’m shifting in old Johnny Evans!

Team will be more than likely

    Vorm
    Agger/Enrique/Evans
    Nani/VDV/Mata/Drenthe
    RVP/Ade/Ba

    Sound good?

Given and Mata to Al Habsi and Nani for a four point hit?

Jerkiest my knee has been all year but have no utd attacking coverage and plan on switching Ba to Sturridge in a couple weeks to get some Chelsea attack back

I would rather do Ba & Mata > Sturridge & Nani, if you have the cash.

Seems a bit silly to take a hit to get rid of Mata though.

dont think it is time to turn back on Ba as he is only serious goal threat for NU, were as Stu has loads of competition. so going for Mata as Chelski cover, is that enough?

I did Ba > Sturridge before last night's game and I still think it was a good decision.

I had no Chelsea cover and their fixtures are delicious.

Compared with Newcastle's and Ba's imminent departure to Equatorial Guinea or wherever the African nations is, it looks like a good move.

you don 't necessarily need cover for any team if you're getting enough points, I've never had a Chelsea player. Ba is on fire and not leaving till about jan 10th so keep him. By all means bring in Mata, he could score heavily.

Agreed, however the fixtures are amazing and one of Mata or Sturridge would surely be a good shout. Drogba could even score huge.

That's not to say I'd bring in someone like Ramires though
