An early Christmas present for 32 fantasy managers is news of their opponent going into the sixth round of the Paddy Power Cup V. Before that, let’s see how the fifth round panned out…

The full set of results can be viewed right here, and for Mark they don’t make for good reading. As Premier League clubs do in real life, he lost to Mighty Manchester. It was a nail-biter however, with just a single point the difference.

Three ties were closer still and had to be decided on overall rank, which saw jinswick, Dyslexia United and Declan progress at the expense of Dr_Heckle, freeeasybets and fitzuation respectively.

Top-seed Der-Hammer95 powered through 78 – 66 against s4petah, improving his rank to 219th in the world.

Onto the round six fixtures then, which will be played out over the upcoming Gameweek 18 which starts on Boxing Day…

      It's not a bad idea, but I think Jones, Evans, Nani or Jones, Nani, Valencia are better options.

      Sturridge - Adebayor - RVP IMO is the best 3 forwards to own.

    Already owning Mata combined with the fact that we usually struggle with Fulham at home and the ridiculous form of Ba has put it on hold till next week as for now.

    So I know it was covered earlier on this forum (probably many times too) but....

    Whats peoples plans for the dead GW. The VDV injury (and poor preceding performances) has thrown a big spanner in the works for me.

    I've already been forced to sell him and barring an epic comeback from him before GW20 he aint guna be in my team anymore.

    So I now have Bale and Drenthe at this point. I'm looking at bringing in Ade & Walker/BAE before GW20.

    That will leave me with 3 Spurs and 1 Everton. Anyone going more heavy than that?

                Just looked hes stats and it put me right off. Last time in the PL he averaged like 0.5 shots on goal. Unless he is a 5-6 mid, im not touching.

                  I think he scored two goals in something like 10 games. I think he was 6.0 and classified as a forward. And he is eligible to play Jan. 4th.

      Im probably going with 5, but only because I already have Bale, Hibbert and Bale. And I will have 2 freebies for GW 20. so Ade and VDV will come in somehow. VDV is already tweeting that hell possibly play against NOR, so I think hell be good for GW 20.

    just looked and mark not only went out the cup by 1 point, but it was courtesy of 1 PPI that kompany didn't get (he was 1 ppi off getting 1bp alongside nasri). he would have gone through as the highest ranked player. tight

      It's a close call but Shotton shades it for me. Swans have some tough fixtures coming up after QPR so will struggle to keep up there cleanies record.

      Shotton is OOP playing right-mid, takes those long throws and Stoke have some tasty fixtures coming up. (There is always a chance Shotton could be rotated though which is the major downfall about him. But as things stand he's played 90mins in the last 4 games so he should be ok)

      The problem is... Stoke have 2 clean sheets in their last 13 games. They aint shutting teams out.

      Swansea don't have the best fixtures either, so their only use will be to stay on the bench until WC

    Everyone is the same.

    It's frustrating to see how similar teams are getting this time of the year.
    Most sophisticated players have the same rvp ba ade offense with the intention to plug in sturridge for ba next week. Some wealthy managers found place for aguero or rooni but that's it for variety.
    In mid you have nani bale silva as must, with Walters as mid price and drenthe for dew. a few mata walcot Valencia thrown in and Some larson, and the same 2-3 under 5 mids thrown in on the bench.
    Defense has Evans jones Enrique Richards with a few vermalen Huth company thrown in with slightly more variety on the cheaper ones - Newcastle and swansy with a bit of shotton

    Reading comments here makes it look like creativity is very limited - however to be fair the above are super safe and profitable choices

    How about some risks? What are good differentials that actually make sense?

        I had gambles for periods on bains and sees and yak, but am drawing blank with good creative ideas.
        Ethrington? Ashly Cole? Klasnich? Donovan when he arrives? Sandro if vdv and Lennon stay out? Cleverly when he returns? Vucic? Kuyt after suare is out?
        Difficult.

      When you say everyone, you mean everyone on here. The vast majority of players dont come on here or think about things too much and end up making stupid (different) decisions.

      I like to think that we have some great FF players on here and we all all end up making very similar choices because we spend hours persuading and debating on here and researching the best choices (plus not to mention taking advice off the FFS staff in the articles).

      I'm happy to have a generic team as long as it's giving me green arrows 🙂

    Now back to business! Team at the moment for GW18:

    Vorm(QPR)
    Enrique(BLA) Simpson(bol) Jones(WIG) Evans(WIG)
    Bale(nor) Nani(WIG) Silva(wba)
    RVP(WOL) Ba(bol) Sturridge(FUL)
    subs - Hennessey, B.Johnson, McAuley, O'Hara.

    Do you like any of these options? (I got 3.3m in the bank and 1 transfer)

    a) O'Hara > Midfielder up to 8.9m (Walcott, Adam, Walters, Drenthe)
    b) Ba > Adebayor
    c) Jones & Ba > Shawcross & Rooney (4 point hit)

    Would obviously drop Simpson if i got a replacement for O'Hara. Getting Rooney is tempting but it would leave me 4 points worse off, without Jones and also with only 3 playing midfielders (B.Johnson seems to be on the bench these days and O'Hara is out for a month). I feel Adebayor could tear it up against Norwich although he does still have back-to-back away games.

    What ya reckon? Play safe and drop O'Hara for a midfielder with a couple of nice games? Trade Ba in for Adebayor? Or take a gamble and get Rooney?

      No love for Rooney! Oh well. I not sure about all this Ba > Adebayor next GW. Swansea away is not an easy game (as i'm sure you all know) although having Ade in place for the DGW is obviously a plus. I suppose it just comes down to how well you expect Ba to do this week against the noblot's.

      In an ideal world in think the best route is Ba > Rooney for GW18 & 19 and then Rooney > Adebayor for GW20 and if my midfield wasn't so lightweight i'd do it in a heartbeat!

        I am thinking of doing something similar. I rushed VDV to Bale yday if I waited, I could have done VDV to cheapie like Drenthe & Ba to Rooney. I can take a hit to either do Silva to Walters or Bales to Drenthe & Ba to Rooney. Think I will close my eyes for the MU game. 🙁

        Rooney could easily score well, so the plan you've highlighted seems decent enough. The Swans V Spurs game will be tight; and I don't see many goals.

        i am very tempted by drenthe or even osman simply for the guaranteed start/form/set piece factor

        im faltering after a great start and carrying ramsey is really starting to grate, a rest would be the icing on the cake with no subs

      One consideration for me when that wildcard is played is whether I'll keep Silva - could be the ideal opportunity to have a bit of Aguero in my team: I don't want both.

      You know this wildcard has come too early for me-there's hardly any transfers I want to make at present. Unless VDV and EVE shape up, I can see myself going into this dgw with only two players (Bale, Ade). Too many players with good value in them in my team.

    Merry Christmas everyone, good luck to all you all over boxing day, in the Fantasy Cup and to those of you in PPC. Now barring injuries or suspension I plan on doing nothing after this GW. And all being well (namely I’m away and no guarantee of internet access in time for DGW) having 2 frees ready for it, which of these options looks best.

    a) Valencia ➡ Drenthe/Rodwell, Fellaini/Osman and Ba ➡ Ade
    b) Valencia ➡ VdV and Ba ➡ a 6.4 or less striker

    surely option a offers a more secure points total, but b gives me greater differential. Thoughts?

      Option a for me too. VDV is a constant injury risk from now on. Hard to see the value in sub-6.4 strikers as differentials when the likes of Ade are bringing in big points right now.
