An early Christmas present for 32 fantasy managers is news of their opponent going into the sixth round of the Paddy Power Cup V. Before that, let’s see how the fifth round panned out…

The full set of results can be viewed right here, and for Mark they don’t make for good reading. As Premier League clubs do in real life, he lost to Mighty Manchester. It was a nail-biter however, with just a single point the difference.

Three ties were closer still and had to be decided on overall rank, which saw jinswick, Dyslexia United and Declan progress at the expense of Dr_Heckle, freeeasybets and fitzuation respectively.

Top-seed Der-Hammer95 powered through 78 – 66 against s4petah, improving his rank to 219th in the world.

Onto the round six fixtures then, which will be played out over the upcoming Gameweek 18 which starts on Boxing Day…

Thanks, it kinda does... Though if I take the hit and get Nani, my other transfer will be someone like Surman, who will only sit on the bench, in for Dyer. So it's purely down to Nani to repay my 4 points.

Instead of VdV, (who, just to complicate things, says he's fit, but probably isn't). No United attackers. Dyer probably does need replacing, but I'm happy enough with my defensive subs to last 'til the wildcard.

With VDV injury you are basically replacing your 1st sub with Nani then. Sounds surmountable?

It does, yes. If there were no other options then it would be a cert. But then a voice tells me that Valencia could nearly match Nani, plus save me 4 points and enough cash to invest in Bale or someone. Conundrums.

My go, my go. One to play of Drenthe, Raylor and Naylor? Then sub order for the two on the bench? Would be Naylor hands down if fully fit but as he's not I'm not sure, he could just come on in the 2nd half or something. Just hope he plays?

Seems unlikely that a half-fit defender would come on as a sub, unless for another injury, so I'd say that's risk free. I'd maybe go for Drenthe on the basis that it's hard to see the others scoring more than 6, so you've got less to lose.

Kompany. I have Drenthe and the O'Neill factor worries me. Also Moyes said he doesn't fancy Drenthe in some of the away games because he doesn't do enough defensively but you'd think he would play this one with Coleman out.

I was actually favouring Drenthe to be honest. Kompany away against two very good strikers in Loing and Odemwingie. Royston has 2 assists in his last 2 games, although Moyes is annoying with his team selections.

Fair point re. Long/Odem, they're in good form. Odem getting back to his best is a worry for any defence in the league. City seem to be rediscovering their ability to get cleanies though. If you're favouring Drenthe then go with that I reckon, there's very little in it. Drenthe's at least the more exciting pick if you're a thrill-seeker. 🙂

PP Cup match up - i prefer his team and I'm starting on -4. Eeek. Think I'm gonna have to captain Nani and hope he does the business to have any hope of going through - all agree?

I don't understand why there's so much hate for Suarez after the racism allegations. If he is that wasteful I really don't think he would of won Sky Sports footballer of 2011..Tbh I just see him as a fantastic footballer and amongst Silva, Messi as a 16 year old I look up to Suarez.

the racism thing is a totally different affair. i am not letting that affect my FPL judgement off him. which is: there are definitely several better forward options

that being said, and still not talking about the racism, I really deplore his attitude towards the game - diving, whining, and his overall ethical approach

but thats on placement tbh, apart from
that Suarez always does that extra
little trick which makes him exciting to
        watch.
This whining and diving really doesn’t
affect my judgment of him, for
        example Ronaldo dives and whines
        repeatedly however that takes nothing
away from him being a sensational
        footballer..

      thanks a lot mate!

      now for the conclusion

that pretty much equals both the sum and games played of that of Bale, Ben Arfa and Baines over those same weeks

which means the 8 pts hit I took to bring in the latter trio did not pay off to handsomely... seeing that I now only have Bale left, I guess the calculation must end?

    Merry christmas!

Gonna post my team up and take some suggestions

    Vorm (Krul)
    BAE, Jenrique, Brown, Shawcross, Simpson
    Silva, Nani, Mata, Walters, Dyer
    RVP, Ade, Studge

Subs for this week will prolly be: krul, shawx, simpson and dyer.

Have been really tempted to bolster my defense of late, should i look at getting evans in? and if so for who? Have 0.0 in the bank so brown and simpson aren't options, unless i downgrade elsewhere. Or should i just leave as is and hope goals trickle in?

In my current starting 11 for GW 18, I have Richards, Jones, and Eagles.

2 of those are slight doubts, and Eagles will probably not start. My bench is weak- Moses Vs Man United, Ward Vs Arsenal, and Dyer. I’ve literally got nothing in the bank.

Is it worth doing a 4pt hit to bring Evans in for Jones (I already have Rooney and Nani) and upgrading Eagles to Walters?

I’m loathe to take out Jones as he’s been so attacking recently, but with Ferdinand out, he’ll be back in defence alongside Evans, so the risk of losing out on attacking points is lessened.

Other option would be to remove Richards for Shotton? Although how nailed on is Shotton?

Any other suggestions? Drenthe instead of Walters?

    Thanks
