While Stoke’s morale took a hit in the 3-0 defeat at the Etihad stadium, their form has undoubtedly flourished of late. Four consecutive wins coincided with the re-introduction of Robert Huth to a central defensive role.

Now could be the time for Fantasy managers to also reconsider Huth as an option. After last season’s Fantasy Premier League (FPL) haul of 138 points, including six goals and three assists, Huth started this term surprisingly slowly and lost his place to Matthew Upson during gameweeks 4 and 9. As a result, Huth’s price has fallen from his initial valuation of 6.0, to a more manageable 5.6 today. Suddenly, there could be value to be found, if only Huth can cement a starting role and begin to replicate the form of his previous campaign.

The signs are good. There’s every indication that Pulis has re-installed Huth to his lineup for the long haul. Huth hasn’t missed a minute of action since gameweek 11 and, with the versatility to play anywhere across the backline, he looks well placed to start each game, particularly with Jonathan Woodgate seemingly persistently cursed with niggles and knocks.

Huth’s goal threat at set pieces not only makes him a popular figure with Pulis, it also lifts his Fantasy credentials. The German offers potential, both in the air and on the ground. He grabbed his first goal of the season against Everton in gamweek 14, and fetched an assist for his dead-ball strike from a direct free-kick against Wolves a fortnight later.

Fast forward to Boxing Day, and Huth will be up against Aston Villa at the Britannia, a side who have conceded more goals from set-pieces than any other Premier League side. Pulis will be well aware of this: Huth will be a key weapon in exploiting the weakness.

Monday’s game also carries the potential of a clean sheet. Alex McLeish’s side have mustered just three strikes in their last six league games. Despite Stoke managing a just a single shut-out in nine, then, the odds on a Potters clean sheet for Boxing Day look good. In a nutshell, Villa can’t defend set-pieces and are scratching around for goals – the case for Huth looks strong.

Stoke follow Monday’s game with another home clash with relegation threatened Wigan, before travelling to face bottom club Blackburn. With West Brom, Sunderland, Swansea and Norwich the next four sides to visit the Britannia after that, Huth may well be a gift that goes on giving long after the Christmas period.

Looking forward to all of the drunken transfers over the next two days, and the cries of horror on here from all those who make them 😀

Merry Christmas everyone; thanks especially to the scouts and posters that make this site what it is. May all our FPL wishes come true this festive season. Keep off the sauce, Nani, you've got the armband this week!

1FT and 0.4m in bank.. 3 doubtful players. Should I do any transfer to reduce the risk of man down?

    Vorm - Krul
    Jones - Evans - Enrique - Simpson - Naylor
    Silva - Nani - Mata - Bale - Dyer
    Ade - Ba - RvP

    - decided to keep Jones
    - decided Sturridge could wait a week to come in place of Ba

    Naylor to whom?

A: Caulker .. Another Swan but cheaper. However, really bad fixtures they have.
B: Shotton .. Stoke gain form and he's OOP. But nailed on?
    C: Who else?

Why are people talking about transferring Ba out with Liverpool and Man United matches coming up for Newcastle?

You don't like him to score against United's back 4????

I'm chopping him in for Chico before his price tumbles. But no, I don't think he'll score against them. He's good. Newcastle are ordinary and he can't do it on his own.

Is there any point in getting Huth if I have Brown, Enrique, Kompany, Simpson and Jones in defence?

I'm tempted to get him but I'll have to sacrifice one of the big guns to have him in my team.

Christmas shopping finally done, now back to the important business.

    Krul (Vorm)
    Richards Jones Enrique (Brown) (Simpson)
    Nani Silva Bale Drenthe (Dyer)
    RVP Adebayor Ba

    2 frees & 0.6m in the bank.

Was thinking Richards > Evans + Dyer > Walters, but I'm pretty reluctant to part with Richards' attacking threat. On the flip side Walters is beastly at the Britannia and Stoke have two very tasty home games coming up.

Thoughts? If not, any other suggestions?

    Opinions on this, folks:

Have Aguero, Jones and Y.Toure in team at mo. Keen on having Rooney as United have better fixtures & am not 100% convinced Aguero will play all games during Xmas/New Year period. Was thinking of doing Jones --> Evans. Would then have 2.8mill. in the bank. Could then get Rooney. Was then going to do Given --> Tim Howard, Nani to Bale & De Laat --> King (all at New Year for DGW) This would all incur a 12 point hit. BUT is it worth it...??

    Thanks.

      probably not

agree that rooney is likely to score well over the next few fixtures compared with aguero who probably has more chance of being rested and has less favourable fixtures.

Jones is doing well and i would love to squeeze him in to my team. Now he has been declared fit to play, a sideways move to evans (maybe even backwards move) isnt worth it.

If you have nani, i think that he is enough utd attacking cover. Instead, try and make the transfers gradually leading up to the DGW otherwise any rewards will already be reduced due to the hit. In my opinion, it isnt worth it. Patience.

Can’t decide on which one to bench:-

Walters -villa at home , oop , pens etc , definite starter

Welbeck – played recently and looked ok , unied attack functions better goal wise with him playing , it seems , and best of all Wigan at home .
On the negative it’s welbeck and big rotation risk

Bale – plays , in form with Norwich next , away though

Hi, never posted before but loking for thoughts. Team for this week is:

    Vorm
    Jones Verm (Komp / Evans)
    Silva Nani Bale (Drenthe)
    RVP(C) Ba Sturridge

    Question:
Which two from Kompany, Evans and Drenthe?

Tempted to double up on ManU defence, which leaves a choice between Kompany or Drenthe. Or better to spread the risk?
