Scoring goals is often cited as the most difficult task for promoted teams to achieve in their first season in the Premier League. Norwich City have had little trouble however, with striker Steve Morison one of the key factors behind their success.

Paul Lambert’s side have netted in all but two of their Premier League games so far this season, including their last ten matches – an amazing feat, that betters many of the established sides. The calibre of opponent during this time is also impressive; the Canaries have notched goals at Anfield, the Etihad Stadium and Stamford Bridge, as well as scoring against Newcastle and Arsenal.

Morison’s consistency during his first season in the top flight has been extraordinary, and with home games against Spurs and Fulham, and an away trip to QPR to come over the festive period, the former Millwall striker is undoubtedly worthy of his high Watchlist ranking.

Currently toiling alongside club skipper Grant Holt in a 4-4-2, when Lambert does tinker, he seems to favour the mobility of Morison over skipper Holt when adopting the 4-5-1 formation. Morison began the season playing a bit part role, but since Liverpool away at the end of October, he has failed to complete 90 minutes only once – he looks the more secure option of the two Norwich marksmen.

Morison has recorded five goals and two assists in his last eight games, with the gameweek 13 win over QPR his only blank. That’s a record that belies his price tag. Indeed, as well as his impressive form, Morison’s Fantasy Premier League (FPL) price of only 5.0 means that he can most definitely be classed as exceptional value for money. Morison is currently second only to Demba Ba in the FPL “Value” stakes amongst the forwards, but Ba will set you back 2.5 more than the Norwich man.

With the inevitable team rotation from the top teams over the Christmas period, Morison offers a cheap, secure third striker option that’s seems almost guaranteed to deliver points each gameweek – a precious commodity during this uncertain festive spell.

Is Ba to Morison next week a silly move? It would free up cash for bringing Drenthe/Osman for the DGW plus a bit extra.

Incidentally, do we know exactly when Ba is off for the ACN?

I could do that but the only way to get in Everton attacking coverage for the double will be downgrading a striker. That obviously won't be RVP and can't be Ade. But I guess I could wait till GW20 before doing it. Will feel hard to swap out Sturridge then though, I suspect.

    Team this week:

    Vorm,
    Jones, Verm, Enrique
    Nani(vc), Silva, Bale, Drenthe
    VP(c), Ba, Ade

    Subs: Krul, Evans, Gomez, Simpson

Concerned Jones may not start or get a cameo appearance, worth starting Evans for safety?

I'd normally say play the defender you want to as they will either play 90 minutes or nothing but with Jones being a utility player I'm not sure this applies.

I'd go Jones anyway, likely to play and Wigan offer plenty of potential for attacking returns.

    Happy Chrimbo Everyone !!

Have some dilema's regarding my team for this GW, I have 2 transfers available :

    Vorm (QPR H)
Clichy (WBA A), Enrique (BLA H), Evans (WIG H)
Walters (AVL H), Sinclair (QPR H), Nani (WIG H), Bale (NOR A)
Ba (BOL A), Rooney (WIG H), Suarez (BLA H)
Subs = Al Habsi, Sessignon, R Taylor, Brown

Who to captain, gut is saying Rooney, but Nani is in so much hot form,
possible transfers - Suarez > Adebayor (in prep for the DGW), Shotton > Brown
or whether to rejig my team to incorporate RVP ?

I'm confused. You said Suarez to Ade and Shotton to Brown, but you already own Brown?

I'd keep Suarez for the next game. It's Rovers at home after all.

Not convinced with Shotton/Huth: Stoke have 2 CS in their last 13.

I wouldn't fiddle with your strikers this week. Look at their form and fixtures.

I would do Brown > Shotton (I'm assuming that's what you meant) this week, then save 2 for rejigging strikers next week.

I think you've missed the RVP boat to be honest, you'd need some serious modelling to incorporate. Stick with Rooney, he's in just as good form, got the fixtures and is over 1 mill cheaper.

      Merry Christmas!

ta very much for the advice guys, i have a fairly settled squad but getting itchy fingers as i'm not making much inroads into the guys ahead of me, think Suarez to Ade for the DGW, but may hold on that til GW20 when Liv have City, so that just leaves me to dispose of Brown for another cheapish defender or go all out for a spurs defender

I agree that Norwich will score against Spurs, but why take the risk with Lindegaard? If De Gea is rested again and Wigan nick a goal (which, considering they've just drawn with Chelsea and Everton, isn't completely outlandish), 12 points lost. Vorm at home against qpr in free fall is the best bet in my opinion.

he is. Not always, but right now, yes he is.
among other things he is: the most reliable striker to play week in week out. Yes Roon does so also, but sometimes in midfield. Aguerro isnt always playing 90', and in danger of rotation.

Bar Morison 😛 the other two strikers RVP-like are Ade and Sturridge.

But you can always ignore him and play with just two strikers. And boost the mids and defence.

If you had RVP I'd stick with him at the mo. However, if you don't have either / already have the pig then I'd say Rooney. He is cheaper, has just as good form / fixtures, and I think RVP price might drop a bit, especially if Rooney / Aguero start out scoring him in the short term. Therefore you can be on Rooney for his hot streak, then hop across to RVP if / when he goes quiet again, hopefully not having to find as much money to bring him in.

I could be totally wrong though.

        Merry Christmas.

Thinking about doing Walker to Huth for a couple of weeks and getting him back just before the double.

anyone think the news on Rafa offers a different option for DGW. It looks like we have a couple of games to asses him first.

VdV could play. I've already taken him out, but I brought Valencia in and I have the money to get him back in. That being said, he's not delivering the FPL points right now, Silva and Nani are, so that option you suggested looks good Ade is scoring points.

Merry Christmas all! Can't believe I'm checking on Xmas day....obsessed!
Considering downgrading ba to Morrison. My team is
    Vorm Krul
    Jones Enrique BAE Brown McAuley
    Silva Bale Pilkington Allen Shelvey
    RvP Rooney BA

Need to upgrade pilkington but can only do it if I lose Enrique or BA.
Plus my main opponent has Morrison.
    What do you reckon?

I've realised that for GW19 I might actually have 2 free transfers with no transfers to make.

    Vorm (Krul)
    Jones Enrique Evans Brown Simpson
    Nani Silva Walters Bale Drenthe
    RVP Sturridge Adebayor

    Bank: 0.2

Can you think of any players that could come in for GW19 to improve the above? I did Ward > Evans this week.

well Richards is doubtful and Walters is at home. If you play Richards, make sure Walters will be subbed in for him (i.e play 4 at the back and have him as first choice sub)

Prefer Etherington to Walters? If it's a money thing, can you get Moses instead of Gomez (or even Surman??)

Yeah I think Etherington is an exciting differential...(if a little knee jerky!)
He was rested for the villa game as well, so sounds like Pulis considers him to be key to their attack.
And I quite like Gomez for the pens..

I considered him but I just don't know how nailed on he is! Now Pennant is back, who knows whether he'll keep his place! Or does he have it for sure?

I wouldn't describe myself as a die-hard potter but I do fancy he'll be playing - 90 mins in each of the last 4 and I genuinely think Pennant & Pulis have fallen out ... your suggested option is safer though.

Might depend on your bench and who you'd have coming in for Shotton if, a) you had him and b) he didn't play

Well if you reckon that's the case I can do

Shorey + Eagles > Shotton and Drenthe.
But I feel its less nailed on

difficult indeed. my hunch is that walters is safer, but larsson has more potential. so it depends on wether you need to catch up or to keep a lead i guess
