Boxing Day. Unfortunately for these pages, a day named for boxes rather than on-field pugilists, but despite that fact we still have some disciplinary matters to round up…

First on the FA’s morning docket will be Wigan striker (and headline writer’s dream) Conor Sammon, after his red in the 5-0 drubbing from a United side with some notable absentees. His 39th minute clash with Michael Carrick – while the game was still 1-0 – resulted in a straight red and an immediate three-match ban for the Irishman (sto, SUN) followed by the FA Cup trip to Swindon. However, with reports surfacing of agreement between Martínez and Ferguson that the card was harsh and some suggestions that the Wigan manager has already stated his intention to appeal, this may not be the last we hear on this matter.

The other points of note from the games today were fourth yellow cards of the season for Newcastle’s Ivorian enforcer Cheick Tioté and recent Watchlist focus Robert Huth of Stoke. If either is now booked in their final games of the year – the Friday night clash at Liverpool for Tiote and the hosting of Wigan the following day for Huth – then they will incur the customary one-match ban. Avoid caution in that game and they will pass the 1st January deadline unpunished, after which the bar will be raised to 10 yellows before any censure.

GAMEWEEK 19 BANS

  • Conor Sammon (Wigan) – 1 Red for serious foul play (First of 3 matches)

SUSPENSION TIGHTROPE – FOUR BOOKINGS

  • Mikel Arteta (Arsenal)
  • Stiliyan Petrov (Aston Villa)
  • Míchel Salgado (Blackburn)
  • Nigel Reo-Coker (Bolton)
  • Paul Robinson (Bolton)
  • Frank Lampard (Chelsea)
  • Raul Meireles (Chelsea)
  • Ramires (Chelsea)
  • Moussa Dembélé (Fulham)
  • Brede Hangeland (Fulham)
  • Danny Murphy (Fulham)
  • Steve Sidwell (Fulham)
  • Fabricio Coloccini (Newcastle)
  • Cheick Tioté (Newcastle)
  • Robert Huth (Stoke)
  • Glenn Whelan (Stoke)
  • Scott Parker (Tottenham)
  • Steven Reid (West Brom)
  • Paul Scharner (West Brom)
  • Richard Stearman (Wolves)

    Repost.

Ok already have Ade, Bale and drenthe for the DGW..

Which addition seems better to it — (VDV+ Hibbert) or (Walker/BAE+OSman)

For the first choice hibbert is the only defender i can afford..

On one hand if I have a spurs defender, 2 everton mids seem like waste, and on the other hand 1 everton defender seems a waste with my 3 spurs attackers..

    Dilemma dilemma..

      option 2 every day

vdv is too risky for a DGW IMO, you already have bale and Ade, thats sufficient. plus hibbert is basically a DGW player with single GW potential. Get you a tot defender. And i would argue that while osman would be nice to have as well, not essential with 3 spurs + Drenthe.

        Thanks for replyin FW..

That is my main concern as would have preferred 3 spurs forwards as they re are on good scoring streak.. WOuld have been a no brainer for me if VDV was fit enough for both the games..

there should be points to be had from spurs defence. In a 4 GW span, WBA, EVE, WOL, WIG.

Thanks for replying Katie.. Hate it when my post is the last one on a comments page..

Option 1 is what im leaning towards too.. hoping that vdv gets fits in time.. 1 clean sheet for hibbert will be good enough for me.. and obviously the clean sheet im expecting is the Bolton one..

Really wished for some other team instead of everton for the DGW... They dont get clean sheets but concede 1 or 2 goals tops.. and they score but hardly more than 1 a game..

those would be my choices. Would help if agbon's/villa's form was ok, clearly it isnt right now, but bent should be back by GW20 which starts a run of SWA, EVE, wol, QPR. Not too shabby if he can return to his early season self.

The big problem with Aggy is he literally plays on the wing away from home and Villa play to contain the opposition. in fact I have no idea where he was playing yesterday but he seemed deeper than Zog, Albrighton an Delfounso while I was watching. No Bent or Heskey seemed the perfect chance for him to lead the line.

It's odd how Rafael keeps getting overlooked for United despite their defensive crisis. Jones and Smalling will come back in next game as they were just ill and I assume Valencia will continue at right back. This means Nani has to start? Worried Roon will play central mid or a wing role. I avoided Valencia as I feared him playing at the back but he still filled his boots! I am having a mare at the moment.

    thinking of doing the unthinkable

    dropping rvp

if he plays vs wolves and sets or ties record surely will be rested against qpr

if he doesnt, still may anyway.

then you got back2back tricky road games vs Fulham and Swansea, then home to Utd.

Im just sayin'. Bought at 12.0, can sell at 12.6. The time MAY be coming people.

Not really.. hes the most likely person to score for Arsenal against any opposition..

And I cant see Arsenal going scoreless against unless any opposition if Rvp plays..

The game vs fulham was really unfortunate that rvp didnt score.. he came very very close..

Ok, who look like the "must have" players for gw 19? (Ok, I know there are no "must haves" - the players that look like good bets, then...)

I'm thinking Rooney, after his rest, against B'burn. Anybody else?

And who looks likely to be rested this week. I'm definitely worried about Silva and RVP (assuming he plays today).

the best advice after yesterday's games...may be sit tight... and make sure you have two transfers for gw20.

If RVP starts tonight he will be benched v QPR.

Spurs are against swansea so there will be few goals there.

I agree rooney will play...but he could easily get 2pt, while goals flow around him.

I don;t think there are any must haves in gw19...only crossed fingers and prayers.

      Nobody, nobody at all.
We have seen in the past that even if United score a bunchful Rooney may not score many points.
Unless United get about 5 free-kicks around the box + a penalty or 2, Rooney shouldn't score many 😉
Doubt Silva won't play after dropping points to WBA, RVP depends on today I guess.

As it's likely for Man Utd to smash Blackburn and get 3 points, I think Mancini should field his best team to win away game vs Sunderland and Silva should be among starters. Mancini surely wants to begin the year with City on top of table..

I hope RvP to be at par with the record after today game and break the record in QPR game.

Expect valencia to settle at RB. He looks pretty good there. Rooney will definitely play deeper and expect Nani to score suddenly but definitely don't put the armband on him. Park/Giggs to start the next 2 out 3 games. Only Evra and valencia should start and play +60 in all three.

But to all those complaining, this has always been the time of the year that has helped in the rise of prominence of 'rotation panic'. Just be happy benitez isn't here. He would teach anyone a masterclass in rotation.

how have Baines and Brunt been playing lately? I got 2 FT this week, thinking of bringing them in for Richards(MCY) and Sessegnon. Does it sound like a good plan?

      not really
i have baines so I'm sold on having him in yr team but I think sess is a keeper for the mo
can you ship out someone for surman or gower or allen etc. in the 4.5 mid range?
get drenthe or osman if yr gonna do the everton double, not brunt

Sess is starting to get some points under O'neil, but I'm quite worried about his fixture. I have a feeling that WBA is gonna come good, so I was deciding between Brunt and Scharner.

Hello to all on the forum. Waiting for RVP to give some respectability to my GW points 🙂
Would kindly ask for some advice - Looking for cheapi defender that is nailed on for starts for the next 6-8wks (barring no injuries) and cant decide between MCAuley (west Brom) and someone from Stoke (both teams have reasonable fixtures ahead) .. looking to spend 4.5m maximum.

Any suggestions would be kindly appreciated

Time t put this car crash of a week aside and focus on the future, team for GW19:

    Vorm,
    Enrique, Jones, Verm,
    Drenthe, Nani, Silva, Bale
    VP, Sturridge, Ade

    Subs: Krul, Shotton, Gomez, Simpson

0.4m in the bank, any suggestions?

Is it too risky to play this team on Gw20? I'm afraid to have a man down at the back..

    Vorm

    Jones(?) – Evans(?) – Enrique

    Nani – Mata – Silva – Bale

    RvP – Sturridge – Ade

Sub: Krul ; Naylor(?) – Simpson – Dyer(?)

    Comments on these options please.

    A. Naylor > Shotton or McAuley
    B. Krul > Ruddy , Evans > BAE .. prepared for double Gwk.
    C. Krul > Sorensen , Jones > Vermaelen .. tempted by this option.

This may have been already mentioned but Norwich have failed to score only twice this season. Once at Old Trafford and the other occasion was West Brom at home.

City have failed to score once this season. The opponent? Roy Hodgson's West Brom.

Perhaps I'll have to start playing McAuley?

McAuley is definitely a good budget defender, though bare in mind WBA isn't gonna play 5 df against every team 🙂

Not really buying into all the Tony V love-in that's going down right now. Not sure why ppl think he's going to outscore Nani all of a sudden.

      😕
