Boxing Day. Unfortunately for these pages, a day named for boxes rather than on-field pugilists, but despite that fact we still have some disciplinary matters to round up…

First on the FA’s morning docket will be Wigan striker (and headline writer’s dream) Conor Sammon, after his red in the 5-0 drubbing from a United side with some notable absentees. His 39th minute clash with Michael Carrick – while the game was still 1-0 – resulted in a straight red and an immediate three-match ban for the Irishman (sto, SUN) followed by the FA Cup trip to Swindon. However, with reports surfacing of agreement between Martínez and Ferguson that the card was harsh and some suggestions that the Wigan manager has already stated his intention to appeal, this may not be the last we hear on this matter.

The other points of note from the games today were fourth yellow cards of the season for Newcastle’s Ivorian enforcer Cheick Tioté and recent Watchlist focus Robert Huth of Stoke. If either is now booked in their final games of the year – the Friday night clash at Liverpool for Tiote and the hosting of Wigan the following day for Huth – then they will incur the customary one-match ban. Avoid caution in that game and they will pass the 1st January deadline unpunished, after which the bar will be raised to 10 yellows before any censure.

GAMEWEEK 19 BANS

  • Conor Sammon (Wigan) – 1 Red for serious foul play (First of 3 matches)

SUSPENSION TIGHTROPE – FOUR BOOKINGS

  • Mikel Arteta (Arsenal)
  • Stiliyan Petrov (Aston Villa)
  • Míchel Salgado (Blackburn)

  • Raul Meireles (Chelsea)
  • Ramires (Chelsea)
  • Moussa Dembélé (Fulham)
  • Brede Hangeland (Fulham)
  • Danny Murphy (Fulham)
  • Steve Sidwell (Fulham)
  • Fabricio Coloccini (Newcastle)
  • Cheick Tioté (Newcastle)
  • Robert Huth (Stoke)
  • Glenn Whelan (Stoke)
  • Scott Parker (Tottenham)
  • Steven Reid (West Brom)
  • Paul Scharner (West Brom)

Ba has five goals in the last five games and Liverpool have conceded one in the last five games. Unstoppable force meets immovable object. I'm backing Ba however.

aye, there isn't much of a difference. I've gone with BAE myself, but that's because money is important. However out of the 2 with money no object, Walker wins it for me, because he is slightly less likely to ever be subbed out during the game. BAE has that ever so slight risk hanging over him.

So I still want to do Ba > Sturridge but my defence is looking extremely shitty for next week with Brown away to City, Simpson away to Liverpool, Naylor at home to spurs and Evans out injured for two weeks.

    Therefore should I:
    A) do Ba > Sturridge anyway.
    B) do Evans > BAE or someone similar
    C) do both moves for a hit

Actually, I've just realised that Liverpool have only conceded more than 1 goal once this season, and that was when they had to play with 10 men for the majority of the game. Looks like Ba -> Sturridge is a very solid transfer, then.

was worried by him coming on in midfield today. you'd fancy berbatov to start next game, then you have welbeck waiting to come back in and hernandez lurking. evans injured means a fit jones probably needed at cb so then they're hoping smalling is ok, otherwise it's carrick needed at cb again and suddenly you have 2 centre mid spots to fill with only really giggs and gibson to fill them. a bit of a nightmare day all round for rooney owners if you ask me

forgot about rio, that could spare the need for carrick at cb and lessen the risk of rooney in midfield

              Smalling Jones Rio Evra
              Valencia Carrick Giggs Nani
              Rooney
              Berbatov
That would be my guess. And Rooney to have a field day.

How I love my gw transfers -

    Baines to jones
    Ba to Sturbridge for -4

Had to do both transfers before their respective rises and was looking long term. This has been fun 🙂

took an 8 pts hit to do baines, moses, aguero ➡ evans, nani, sturridge

currently sitting on 5 pts from 6 players, and a -19 point deficit (includes the hit I took to get Baines in that never did pay off)

It would seem that Lennon is back in light training opening up the possibility of a reappearance for the DGW. Would make an interesting differential at 7.2. He was scoring well before his injury and would be nailed on for both games if fit.

Could be one to keep an eye on. Would make things a lot easier in getting Spurs attacking coverage in but realistically it's very hard to go into the DGW without Bale or VDV instead of Lennon.

I'm very tempted to do Jenny to Smalling, but the sensible move would be JEvans to Shotton.

Playing Vorm but hoping for 1 point from him!

JEvans injury has thrown ye proverbial spanner in the works though.

Was all set to do Sinclair to Drenthe and Hennessey to Friedel this GW with my 2 frees. However, since I have Naylor and JEvans I could be going into GW19 with only 3 fit defenders.

Not sure I want to risk that now.
