Boxing Day. Unfortunately for these pages, a day named for boxes rather than on-field pugilists, but despite that fact we still have some disciplinary matters to round up…

First on the FA’s morning docket will be Wigan striker (and headline writer’s dream) Conor Sammon, after his red in the 5-0 drubbing from a United side with some notable absentees. His 39th minute clash with Michael Carrick – while the game was still 1-0 – resulted in a straight red and an immediate three-match ban for the Irishman (sto, SUN) followed by the FA Cup trip to Swindon. However, with reports surfacing of agreement between Martínez and Ferguson that the card was harsh and some suggestions that the Wigan manager has already stated his intention to appeal, this may not be the last we hear on this matter.

The other points of note from the games today were fourth yellow cards of the season for Newcastle’s Ivorian enforcer Cheick Tioté and recent Watchlist focus Robert Huth of Stoke. If either is now booked in their final games of the year – the Friday night clash at Liverpool for Tiote and the hosting of Wigan the following day for Huth – then they will incur the customary one-match ban. Avoid caution in that game and they will pass the 1st January deadline unpunished, after which the bar will be raised to 10 yellows before any censure.

GAMEWEEK 19 BANS

  • Conor Sammon (Wigan) – 1 Red for serious foul play (First of 3 matches)

SUSPENSION TIGHTROPE – FOUR BOOKINGS

  • Mikel Arteta (Arsenal)
  • Stiliyan Petrov (Aston Villa)
  • Míchel Salgado (Blackburn)

  • Raul Meireles (Chelsea)
  • Ramires (Chelsea)
  • Moussa Dembélé (Fulham)
  • Brede Hangeland (Fulham)
  • Danny Murphy (Fulham)
  • Steve Sidwell (Fulham)
  • Fabricio Coloccini (Newcastle)
  • Cheick Tioté (Newcastle)
  • Robert Huth (Stoke)
  • Glenn Whelan (Stoke)
  • Scott Parker (Tottenham)
  • Steven Reid (West Brom)
  • Paul Scharner (West Brom)

Liverpool have only conceded more than one goal once this season, which was when they had to play with 10 men for the majority of the match.

Richardson makes a hell of a lot more sense than Carrick.

Sess playing OOP a lot of the time is appealing, plus Brunt/Murphy/Drenthe having set pieces.

Carrick doesn't offer much aswell as playing negative OOP at times.

When you intend to use your Wildcard is a big factor in this choice, as none really have great fixtures, but Drenthe does have the double gameweek.

Looks like I've only got 3 playing defenders for GW19 - can I afford to save the transfer? Was planning on saving it to have 2 freebies for the double in GW20, but the JEvans debacle may force my hand....

Trades are valuable now. Rather spend them in the attacking positions than in defence until the WC. An injury to Adebayor or RVP & you will be taking more hits etc.

    Vorm, (Krul)
    Vermaelen, Jones, Kompany, (Brown), (Ward)
    Walters, Drenthe, Nani, Valencia, (Dyer)
    Ba, RVP, Adebayor

The plan was to ship Ba for Sturridge this week but now thinking of maybe getting Assou-Ekotto in for Ward and then Bale in next week? With the possibility of taking a hit this week or next to get Ba out for Sturridge possibly.

Depends what else you have in mind for your line up but be prepared for Simpson to play and no defensive subs.

Bought in Drenthe last week and played him, benched him this week and will be doing the same next GW.

Kinda seems pointless bringing him in now. Probably won't be too bad, rotation likely again next GW

If anybody cares to take a look at my team I would appreciate suggestions.

Plan going into this week was to sell Shawcross for shotton/mccauley/or another, and then bring in Ade for Ba. Would love to keep shawcross but dont really want to be taking a hit next week for dgw either.

    Stick to plan or.......?

I like Shotton if he continues to play. With Wilkinson fit again and Pennant, am just concerned he might not play

I have been thinking the same to be honest. Seems the Stoke defence is very much up in the air (except for Sorenson and Shawcross). Even Huth was out in the cold there for a while.

That's why I would like to keep Shawcross. Huth will definitely play now but with 4 yellows he's a bit dodgy. I have to go for a cheap option to facilitate the Ade/Ba trade

My main question is whether I should go ahead with those two trade this week and just get Ade in. Deal with defense or third dgw option next week.

I think your defence looks fairly good for next GW.

Vermaelen just came back and need all the game time he can get
              Jones should be fit
and cant imagine Jose E will be dropped

FFScout cup tie is now 22-21 to him, The only differential left is my Bale, he has no-one, so I need Bale to score at least 1 point for me to go through (on overall rank, which has moved down one place this week, 219th to 220th), other differential is my Valencia BP's vs his R.Taylor BP's, but 2 for Valencia is almost nailed, and then R.Taylor will get 2 MAX, so 😀 😀 😀
