Glossing over the narrow misses in last week’s Flutter, with a dash of regret at putting so many eggs into one “Ba-sket”, it’s time to darken Paddy Power’s door and scan the new markets, digesting them along with that boxing day bubble and squeak.

Whilst keeping £50 million worth of footballer in the dugout, Daniel Sturridge is fast becoming one of the most promising England prospects, closing in a Euro 2012 spot week by week. Sturridge looked sharp and hungry in-front of goal against Spurs on Thursday night and will be odds on to contribute in Chelsea’s early fixture with Fulham at the Bridge today. Sturridge to score and the Blues to win is 10/11, but the first portion of our tenner will go on Sturridge to net two or more goals at 100/30 for £3.

There are certain players who cause an audible buzz of excitement through the crowd when they gain possession. When Gareth Bale collects a pass in his long stride, with open space in front of him, when Michel Vorm steps up and looks a penalty taker square in the eyes, when Seb Larsson squares up a free-kick from outside the box. Sunderland’s Swede just missed out in the Scout Picks, cruelly omitted in the final cull, but at 12/1 to score from a dead-ball, we’ll take £2 on Larsson forcing humble pie down our necks.

Thomas Vermaelen’s purple patch of goals may have dried up against the likes of Man City and Aston Villa, but we fancy him to cause problems against visiting Wolves on Tuesday. Wolves haven’t kept a clean sheet since the third game of the season, whilst Arsenal have kept three in the last seven. Vermaelen to score and keep a cleanie at 10/1 may be a little hard to chew, but the Belgian has managed it twice and we’ll back him to do it again for £2.

Our final “Who Will Score the Most?” market usually pits three in-from strikers against one another; this time around we’ve added some midfield flavour. Just a few days ago, Rafael Van der Vaart looked unlikely to play any part at Norwich on Tuesday but now, it looks as though he’ll recover to play his part at Carrow Road. At 11/8, Van der Vaart is favourite to net over the much-fancied Nani at 6/4 against Wigan, while the last of our Scout Pick trio, Scott Sinclair, is offered up at 5/2 against floundering QPR. The irony of Van der Vaart coming good after being sold on by thousands of Fantasy managers isn’t lost on us; we’ll back him with our final £3 to cover the inevitable.

You have a very solid defence, and I think you pretty much have the nuts midfield 4.

Your only real concern this week is Rooney imo. I can see MUN winning by 3 or 4. Trouble is, a 4-1 or 5-1 win with Rooney scooping is horrible for you. Sturridge could equally score big, but I fancy Fulham to have worked hard on defence this week after the horror show again MUN last week.

Fancy you to score around 80-85, assuming nobody gets rested.

of course u can. I was more than 100 pts behind the leader in my league and I closed the gap to 47 pts in 7 GWs. I was also in the bottom 5 in 2 H2H leagues and now I am first in one of them and third in the other. The season is very long but word of advice, the captain choice is the most important thing you have to get right

50 points is nothing, especially when fixtures come as quick as these. I've been chipping away at a 170 point lead for the last couple of GW's and nearly under 100 left to pull in. A good 3 GW's and i'llbe back in the running. Good luck.

    Help appreciated folks:

I can do Larsson > Evans OR

Downgrade Jones > Evans and get Nani for a 4 pt hit.

I have a decent lead, but competitors have Nani, so I can afford the 4 pts if needed to shut them out.

Would anyone care to explain to me exactly how this team value thing works? I just don't seem to be able to get my head around it.
The way I understand it, players rise and fall based on points accrued, and the amount buying/selling of a player?
Then, for every .2 a player rises at buy vale, you gain .1 at sell value?
Is that why there is such a massive difference between team value, and the selling value of your team? Then you still get players prices being 'locked' or something of the sort. It just all seems a confusing mess to me, if anyone could clarify that would be great.

Players rises and fall have nothing to do with points scored, it's purely based on how many people transfer them in or out.
or every .2 a player rises at buy vale, you gain .1 and this figure is rounded off against you. e.g if player rose by .7m you get .3m profit.
Player values sometimes get "protected" say, sometimes when a player comes back from injury and has the red flag beside his name removed. So for the next few days (protection period) his value cant rise or fall. I

Looking for a 4.0 defender, is Shotton a nailed on starter for Stoke?

See below, Shotton will likely be rotated with Woodgate at right-back and Pennant on right-wing - both senior players who are set to be preferred for home matches - e.g.: the most profitable.

Anyone else looking at their team this week and thinking '100 points barrier'? Fixtures are so mouthwatering, cue major player resting and 26 point haul !

haha, so agree. Im happy to see that I have a half decent bench so at least 50 is doable even if some big names get rested.

Caulker is far more secure but will miss GW19 as part of his loan conditions - I don't see a Shotton start in the GW, unless he gets in at right-back. Pulis has said he wants wingers for home matches so I'm expecting both Pennant and Etherington starts.

So, thoughts on where Jones will play today? Mid, defence, bench? I'm lined up as follows:

Verm, Jones, Enrique with Evans first sub but wondering if should switch Jones/Evans?

Anyone else think Rooney or Nani will get rested against Blackburn, in preperation for the Newcastle and City fa cup matches. Could be a headache if rvp also gets benched against qpr having broken the record.

Arsene Wenger is facing one of the toughest calls of his managerial career over whether to rest Robin van Persie for Tuesday's game against Wolves - a move which could wreck the Arsenal striker's bid to break Alan Shearer's record for most Premier League goals in a calendar year.

mmm lets hope if he is rested , then he proper rested and not coming on for ten minutes
Also is it risky to n=make Nani vice captain? Because there is a small chance they will both be s=rested
Would it make more sense to have a vice capt who is nailed on to start
