As the official Fantasy Premier League version begun this week with over two million hopefuls, our very own Paddy Power Cup V was down the last 32. With no virtual coin toss nonsense to worry about here, let’s see how it panned out…

Top-score this week went to Mr Bungle, who battered Chris H 67 – 35. That was the widest margin of victory for the round by quite some distance.

In doubling his opponent’s score was, Declan came closest to that 32-point gulf, as he bossed lowest-scoring jinswick 44 – 22.

For the first time this season there wasn’t a single draw, with runty‘s 50 – 49 triumph over GreenWindmill the tightest affair.

Der-Hammer95 continued his fine form to reach the last 16 as the highest ranked fantasy manager in the tournament. His 54 – 38 drubbing of Peadarb was enough for another green arrow and 181st in the world.

The fixtures for the seventh round – taking place in Gameweek 19 – will be announced in due course, along with important Quarter-Final news.

Congratulations to this week’s winners, and commiserations to those leaving the competition at this stage.

I've had the holy quartet of Silva, Nani, Mata and Bale for several weeks now, thanks to the amazingly priced Sturridge and Ba up front.

After this week I'm swapping Ba for Adebayor, leaving me with a 1.2M deficit.

Do I keep the midfield and downgrade Jones to Smalling/Evans, or downgrade a midfielder to a ~9M player?

It seems like the sensible option, but I need to sit down and watch Chelsea this weekend. They've got decent fixtures coming up, and I think he'll do better with Ramires back in the side. Last game I saw Mata was ripping it up, but Chelsea are all over the place at the moment.

    Enrique Jones Evans Vermalen Walker

    Bale Drenthe Valencia Silva Benarfa

    Ba RVP Adebayor

not sure who to bench this week and/or what to do transfer wise…

    1) do i need to get rid of Ba yet?
    2) 0.1 off Ba>sturridge, should i bother taking a hit?
    3) what should i do regarding the old evans and jones fiasco
    4) who to bench?

        +1
i bought gallas last week and am strongly regretting it right now. i did it because the team sheet v chelsea said gallas starting with kaboul on the bench, unfortunately afterwards i found out kaboul got injured int eh warm up and was purely listed on the bench as it was too late to put anyone else there.
have also read a lot of gallas has started the last 5 games comments the last couple of days. that hides the fact that kaboul was suspended and injured and king injured too in those 5 games. i'd love it to be gallas who gets the nod if king is fit but i can't see how anyone can be sure it'll be him over kaboul.

Must say I can't believe the lack of interest in Van Der Vaart for Spurs' dgw. He's back, he's fit, he looked really good against Norwich and has a 2 home game dgw, with those matches being 8 days apart... and Spurs have Cheltenham in the cup so no worries there.

The only concern i'd have is that they play Swansea away on Saturday and then WBA home on Tuesday so not much recovery time.

Think I might well bring him in, BAE is the alternative 3rd Spurs player and that's just... pleh.

Problem is the space in between the games. West Brom 3 days after Swansea and Wolves 3 days after Everton. I'd say Harry could give Defoe a run out in 1 or 2 of those games. VDV's been sitting very deep the last few games too, hasn't had too many shots.

He reminds me of a world class player at the tail-end of his career that still has the touch and technique but labours around the field and never exerts himself too much, like a Figo, Seedorf, Hagi type when they were well into their 30s.

I wonder how much of VDV's "issues" are man-management ones - put another way: I wonder if 'Arry's mucking up his mind-set and, thus, his production.

Vaart seems a handful, to be sure.

Yep, pretty solid. Rumours that Ba will be rested after picking up a knock so if you have a freebie I'd do Ba -> Sturridge.

        Ahaa, morning Jafa!!

I couldn't handle this Bale punishment any longer, and it leaves me with options if JEvans or Wilko arent' likely to start this week.

As for Reo-Coker - he scored 2 weeks ago!! (obviously he was on my bench though)

          Just did

          Evans->Gallas
          Naylor->Shotton

Felt dirty about letting Naylor go...he has been a faithful serrvant. Sadly, I foresee an end to the SWN cleenies with these fixtures and the chopper did fall. 🙁

So you took the gamble with Gallas then! Could pay off handsomely if King/Kaboul stay out of the way.

I may be forced to ditch JEvans this week too. No freebies left but only have these defenders (anything from 2 to 4 could be involved). JEvans -> BAE for a hit? Yay or Nay?

            Vermaelen, Caulker, Simpson, JEvans, Wilko

It's win win for me even if Gallas doesn't play-I've pretty much got a fit 15 going out...and with my bench scoring more than my starting defenders, that might not be such a bad thing after all 😉

I say Yay to the hit. Wouldn't normally but in this case, the TOT defender will last you 5-6 games of great fixtures and you only have two starters in defence. Good luck! 😉

Seems a waste of a transfer. Although you have a "feeling", you will probably lose a lot of money on Silva, and when he hits form again you'll want him back, he is one of them players that is fixture proof too, in fact beyond that, he is guaranteed starts in the harder games, and does well in them, where as in the easier games, he isn't guaranteed, and doesn't tend to do as well imo.

Get Bale next week by all means, but a one week punt, like for like, doesn't seem worth it.

I can't see Giggs starting 3 in a row, and Gibson is awful so I reckon P Jones will start in midfield with Rio and Smalling at the back. Perhaps even JEvans if he's not injured. I'm between Rooney and RVP for (c) this week. Currently on RVP as I think Wenger knows he'll be pis*ed if he doesn't get a shot at this record. Rooney surely starts this game though and is a great option. Tough choice.

Unlucky dude, I kept for these two weeks (WOL, QPR), but had a change of heart the other evening, and bought Valencia instead...

He has been there or there abouts all season, unlucky not to get points, keep the faith for one more week, you could be rewarded, but for the DGW get rid for Drenthe or someone, he's annoyingly not going to be a regular points scorer in my opinion, with RVP on the scene, and Arteta taking all the other set pieces.

Play him this week, I would advise that, he's had his rest, and Arsenal drew 1-1 against a team Wenger will feel they should be beating, so changes will be made, I for one think Ramsey will come straight back into the team.

Arsenal were noticeably better when he came on in the 2nd half against Wolves.

    Silver > Bale.

Its fairly obvious when you look at the fixtures between now and the 31st of January (the last chance to play the WC). Silver will only be a rotation threat for the sunderland game as he will be needed against liverpool. Otherwise he has nice gaps between each game. However Bale has 4 fixtures that are quite close, the 31st and 2nd, and the 11th and 14th. How rotation proof is he? Granted however he does have the extra game but surely that is only worthwhile if he plays every match whereas Silver looks like he may not miss any

    Bale: swa(31st), WBA(2nd), EVE(11th), WOL(14th), mci(21st), WIG(31st)

    Silver: sun(31st), LIV(2nd), wig(14th), TOT(21st), eve(1st/2)

Yanky makes a good point here, after a 0-0, surely Mancini can't afford to rest his best creator in a tough away game ??

I'm not expecting anything huge, but Silva is Silva, like it or not, ANY week, he can do well. As I made my point somewhere above, he does just as good in the tough fixtures, sure Bale will do well too, and perhaps you should find another route to getting him in...

        Good luck 🙂

Good thing for us fpl managers is that 'Arry rarely rests players unless they are injured. Bale is absolutely firing right now and with Lennon out I'd expect him to play every game unless he picks up a knock. I think it's the right trade right now, as long as you are prepared to get Silva back in for GW24 (at least this is my plan!! 🙂 )

Gee, he probably will be rotated then. Surely Mancini will concentrate on the league though especially with it being so close with United.

I've given up trying to guess what Mancini will do.

I only have Silva from City but i wont be going near them for at least a month, might even ship Silva out for VDV next week.

One of the best talents we've had in a long time. Great skill, can play any attacking midfield/wing role. Regular in our national team now, been around since he was 19 or so. I think he might have what it takes to play in a big team, but not entirely sure.

What are your rest-of-season predictions for the big name strikers? Say:

    RvP
    Aguero
    Rooney
    Adebayor
    Balotelli

and the dark horses (negritos, if you will) who may come good, like:
    Hernandez
    Torres - 😐
    Carroll

I was expecting more from Aguero, as in absolute domination of the weaker teams, but he's been a bit erratic so far.

Aguero's position changes a lot. Sometimes he is deeper or wider, and other times he is the main striker so erratic returns is always likely. Belotelli won't play every game so that counts against him.

I think RvP, Rooney and Ade will be the prime strikers for the rest of the season but I would say that as I have all 3 of them 😀

Thoughts on these transfers for an 8 point hit to make my team playable this weekend.

Welbeck, Pilks, Ba to Adebayor, Sturridge, Reo-Coker

It would leave my team as

    Howard
    Enrique, Wilkinson, Simpson, McAuley, Evans
    Nani, Mata, Silva, Sessengon, Reo-Coker
    Van Persie, Adebayor, Sturridge.

Keep Ba for one more week. In order for Ba->Sturridge to pay off on a 4pt hit, you're effectively saying that Sturridge needs to score two more than Ba, otherwise you won't make a profit. Won't happen.

Even though Liverpool are keeping things tight in defence, Ba is on a great run and I wouldn't be surprised if he gets one or two.

Normally would agree however with Liverpool and man u the next fixtures plus the ACON around the corner I would invest in sturridge now for -4 before price rises in coming weeks

Sure, if it's not going to be affordable otherwise then go for it. (I'm keeping Ba for the Liverpool match and already have Sturridge + spare cash.)

I was planning Ba > Adebayor myself this gw, but I think you should hold. Ade at Liberty Stadium isn't a goal fest on paper, Ba at Anfield is arguably as likely to score. Liverpool have actually conceded more goals at home than Swansea (7-3).

Yes but Liverpool can get a clean sheet anywhere. Also I think Swansea are going to be found out by Tottenham this week.

What's the points of a 8 point hit when you can use a wildcard after this game week you don't need to change you team that much ATM

To field 11 players, I think it is necessary to do them. Pilkington and Welbeck will most likely be benched and Ba has picked up a knock and has bad fixtures.

Ruiz is the guy to have in the next 2/3 gameweeks. Mark my words. He'll get 3/4 goals and maybe some assists too. Just a hint from the netherlands.. he's magic

I like him.. and I think you could be right. But as FF Addict says, its a bit of a punt to give up a striker slot for him, and I think I'm going to opt for Dempsey as Fulham coverage over that period.

    Ba has Liverpool then utd....

    Sturridge has villa then wolves...

Surely Sturridge more likely to get the points...

      Or rested

I'm struggling with the same decision. It just feels wrong removing the premiership's in-form striker.
